The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) closed the first half of 2026 with a 37% rise in firm registrations from the same period in 2025, underscoring the strength of its strategy and the appeal of Qatar's business environment to investors and entrepreneurs alike. The QFC onboarded 1,135 firms during the period, bringing its total registered firms to over 4,700 as at the end of June. Growth was recorded across the QFC's key focus sectors, with ‘Technology and Innovation’ leading the way at 544 new firms, followed by ‘Media and Entertainment’ at 173, ‘Consulting and Professional Services’ at 166, ‘Wealth’ at 84, and ‘Fintech’ at 65. The strong uptake across these sectors reflects the breadth and growing relevance of the QFC platform to firms operating at the intersection of finance, innovation, and advisory services. The QFC’s H1 growth was boosted by its performance at Web Summit Qatar 2026, where it received approximately 2,300 business licensing applications, an increase of approximately 44% from the previous year. The strong showing reflects the impact of the QFC's incentives and streamlined onboarding process to ease market entry, with waived registration and annual fees for the first three years combined with an integrated, one-stop-shop business setup model simplifying the registration journey.The first half of the year also saw the QFC broaden the scope of Qatar's financial services sector, with the registration of Qatar's first-ever real estate investment trust collective investment fund. The launch of Salwa REIT will offer an economical and efficient way to own income-generating real estate assets in Qatar, marking a significant milestone in the depth of products available on the QFC platform. Regionally, the QFC strengthened its regulatory cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) through reciprocal data protection adequacy recognition. The mutual recognition reflects the close regulatory cooperation among the three centres in establishing a robust data protection regime, streamlining cross-border operations for companies doing business across the region. The first half of the year also marked a defining chapter for the organisation with Mansoor Rashid al-Khater taking over as chief executive officer in January, together with new appointments to the QFC's board of directors. The centre also relocated to its new headquarters in Lusail, positioning it at the heart of a smart, sustainable, and rapidly emerging district. The period also coincided with a celebration marking the QFC’s 20 years of impact and the unveiling of a new brand identity carrying the renewed commitment to help firms ‘Grow with Confidence’. Al-Khater said, “Over the years, QFC has built a platform businesses trust to support their growth. As we look ahead, our focus is on deepening that trust, expanding our value proposition, and backing our firms' progress as QFC continues to evolve into a dynamic, future-ready hub for innovation and long-term partnerships.”Alongside these achievements, the QFC continued to build on its role as an active contributor to Qatar's economic development through sustained stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships. The QFC hosted 12 events that drew about 1,500 participants combined. These events fostered meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. It also took part in 15 local and international events, strengthening its visibility among global audiences and reinforcing its standing as a competitive destination for business and investment. In addition, the QFC signed 10 memoranda of understanding with relevant entities in Qatar and other countries, broadening strategic partnerships to advance its focus sectors, facilitate cross-border investment, and support Qatar's broader economic development agenda. 

 Qatar Chamber recently participated in the first edition of the Sahel Tech Innovation Challenge (STIC '26) held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, under the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Africa’. Board members Mohamed bin Mahdi al-Ahbabi and Dr Mohamed bin Jawhar al-Mohamed represented the chamber at the event, which brought together ministers, investors, and innovators from across the region. The inaugural edition drew over 600 project submissions from 23 African nations, targeting transformative tech solutions in agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance. Al-Ahbabi said the chamber’s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening engagement with business communities across Africa, exploring the opportunities offered by emerging technologies and AI, and highlighting their role in supporting economic development and environmental sustainability. He added that the participation provides an important opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the Qatari private sector, explore new avenues for cooperation in technology and digital transformation, and facilitate the exchange of expertise and experiences among companies and business leaders. Speaking at the event, al-Mohamed emphasised that STIC '26 reflects the rapid advancement of Africa's technology sector. He noted that it confirms African youth possess the talent and capabilities required to develop innovative solutions, driving progress toward a more diversified and sustainable economy. He pointed out that the chamber’s participation in the event stems from its conviction that successful economic cooperation extends beyond traditional trade and investment. He assured that true partnership requires exchanging knowledge, fostering innovation, building capacity, and creating new collaborative opportunities between business communities. Al-Mohamed further noted that technology, AI, and the digital economy represent promising avenues for cooperation between Qatar, Burkina Faso, and the wider African continent. In light of rapid global economic shifts, he highlighted the growing need for innovative digital solutions that boost productivity, elevate business competitiveness, and unlock fresh opportunities for young people. He also highlighted the wide range of potential areas for cooperation between the Qatari private sector and its counterpart from Burkina Faso, particularly in technology, artificial intelligence, digital services, education, industry, logistics, entrepreneurship, and investment. Al-Mohamed urged investors and business leaders to view Africa as a genuine partner in shaping the future, citing its rich human capital, expanding markets, and substantial cross-sector opportunities. 

 Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) held its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) yesterday via videoconference after reaching legal quorum, and all items on the agenda were endorsed during the EGM. The shareholders at the EGM also approved all proposed amendments to the company’s Articles of Association, as published on the company’s website on July 28. 

 Media professionals and content creators in Qatar recently participated in an introductory workshop that highlighted the criteria and standards for the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work – Media Category. The seminar brought together representatives from local newspapers and media outlets alongside content creators, offering participants a closer look at how impactful media initiatives can contribute to social development. The workshop was opened by Abdulaziz Ibrahim al-Ishaq, the chairman of the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work, affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development and Family. He welcomed the participants and stressed that projects submitted for the award should demonstrate genuine social relevance and extend beyond an organisation’s core business. He cited initiatives that raise awareness among school students about environmental conservation and sustainability, particularly when such projects produce measurable, scalable changes in behaviour. The seminar was led by Mohammed al-Muhannadi of the award’s executive team, who explained the eligibility requirements and judging criteria for the Media Category. He highlighted projects that develop effective social solutions, strengthen social protection and contribute to Qatar’s broader social development objectives, and underlined the importance of empowering civil society organisations and enhancing their role in creating lasting social impact. According to al-Muhannadi, eligible media initiatives should produce professional and responsible content that promotes social work, national values and awareness across society in Qatar. Projects are also expected to demonstrate creativity, innovation, measurable impact and sustainability, while aligning with the National Strategy 2024-30 and national societal values. He stressed that eligible projects should follow a clear cycle of planning, implementation, KPIs (key performance indicators), measurement and improvement, supported by structured data collection and analysis. The workshop also provided practical guidance on the application process, evaluation standards and methods of measuring sustainable social impact. Key criteria include the effectiveness of media content in encouraging positive social change, inclusiveness, alignment with national priorities, and the use of innovative formats to highlight community and humanitarian initiatives. The Rawda Award, officially announced by the Ministry of Social Development and Family in December 2025, is Qatar’s first national award dedicated to recognising individuals, families, institutions, and other contributors to innovative and sustainable social initiatives. The award comprises five categories: individuals, families, non-profit organisations, the private sector, and media, with total annual prizes of QR2.7mn. 

 Authorities removed 7,144 abandoned vehicles across Qatar in 2025 as part of intensified efforts to clear public spaces and streamline procedures for handling vehicles left there. The Joint Committee for the Removal of Abandoned Vehicles, Machinery and Equipment transferred 5,340 vehicles to the Mesaimeer vehicle impound facility and 1,804 to the Umm Salal facility. The total value of vehicles disposed of during the year was estimated at QR10.62mn. The committee conducted 40 field campaigns across the country’s municipalities, with concerned authorities expanding inspections, streamlining procedures and strengthening co-ordination among government entities to address the issue. Several administrative measures were introduced in 2025 to expedite the removal and disposal process. These included cancelling impound fees and linking violations to individuals’ personal identification numbers. Authorities also worked to simplify vehicle ownership transfers and disposal procedures, aiming to reduce administrative delays and make it easier for owners to resolve cases involving abandoned vehicles. The committee further strengthened co-ordination and data-sharing links with relevant authorities and proposed integrating municipal and traffic violations to improve enforcement and information exchange. As part of its disposal programme, about 1,200 vehicles were sold through auctions during the year. The committee also examined mechanisms for exporting abandoned vehicles and proposed procedures for handling vehicles found on private property. Public awareness campaigns were stepped up to encourage greater community participation in preventing vehicle abandonment in public areas. 

An upcoming international conference, ‘the AsianSIL Intersessional Conference 2026,’ hosted by the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) later this year, aims to highlight the role of Asia in shaping the development of international law, particularly in emerging areas such as environmental governance, AI regulation and humanitarian law. The conference "Is a New Normative International Legal Order in the Making? The Asian Perspective" will explore Asia's evolving role in the international legal order. The conference will also examine Asia’s growing influence and contributions to international law in climate change, humanitarian crises, and artificial intelligence governance amid dynamic geopolitical shifts, technological advancements, and pressing global challenges. According to Dr Khalid Mubarak al-Kuwari, chair of the conference and a lecturer at the College of Law, HBKU, the AsianSIL conference has advanced international law scholarship and dialogue across Asia and beyond since 2007. Dr al-Kuwari said: “The world is undergoing profound strategic, economic, social and technological change. Positioned at the crossroads of multiple regions, Asia plays an increasingly influential role in shaping the international legal order. In this context, AsianSIL advances the rule of law, inclusive dialogue and research addressing pressing global challenges, including environmental governance, humanitarian law, international economic law and AI governance.” The conference brings together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to engage in critical dialogue and interdisciplinary exchange. It will take place over two days: Day One will feature an invitation-only junior scholarship workshop, while Day Two will host the main conference as a public session. The conference also aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue by facilitating discussions among legal scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to encourage cross-sectoral engagement. It focuses on promoting scholarly research by providing a high-level academic platform for presenting and publishing cutting-edge research in international law. The conference will feature expert-led discussions on critical topics related to environmental governance and climate action. It will examine Asia’s role in global climate agreements, regional environmental policies, and sustainable development initiatives. “For decades, issues relating to the future of the liberal international order have received considerable attention. Today, these discussions have become increasingly urgent as the world grapples with complex global problems alongside pressing regional conflicts and issues that the existing legal order seems ill-equipped to address, let alone solve,” said the dean of the college, Dr Susan L Karamanian. According to the organisers, Asia, which spans from the Pacific Ocean in the East to the Middle East in the West and is home to more than half of the world’s population, is critical to the conversation, both in defining problems and in offering solutions. There will be discussions on humanitarian law in the modern era addressing challenges in international humanitarian law, particularly in conflict zones and disaster-prone regions within Asia. AI and Public International Law will be another focus of the conference, exploring legal and ethical implications of AI for global governance, trade, and security. Furthermore, there will be deliberations on the topic ‘Small States and Emerging Economies: Asia Diplomacy and Multilateralism’. This will examine the role of small states and emerging economies in Asia’s legal and diplomatic landscape, including international dispute resolution, economic partnerships, and regional stability. “We look forward to having our friends from or those interested in Asia here in Doha to engage in conversation and debate about the future of international law. We will do so in a vibrant, welcoming country that prioritises education and harmonises tradition with modernity. Qatar’s rich Arab culture, renowned hospitality and vibrant art scene await you,” added Dr Karamanian. 

Qatar Charity's Sri Lanka Office has successfully completed a major vision care initiative under its global health programs as part of the Challenge 27 Campaign, bringing renewed hope and improved quality of life to hundreds of vulnerable individuals across the country. With a total project cost of QR 282,480, the initiative enabled the completion of 300 cataract surgeries and the distribution of 555 prescription spectacles, which includes vision correction support for 150 school students. The program was launched in response to the growing need for accessible eye care services among low-income families, elderly individuals suffering from cataracts, and children whose educational performance was being affected by uncorrected vision problems. By partnering with qualified medical professionals and healthcare institutions, Qatar Charity ensured that beneficiaries received essential eye examinations, surgical interventions, and corrective eyewear free of charge. This intervention forms part of Qatar Charity's health program initiatives, which also encompass malnutrition projects for children under five and pregnant women, as well as support for chronic disease treatment. Collectively, these initiatives benefit more than 2,000 cases, with a total budget of QR 988,680.   

Qatar Chamber hosted a dialogue session titled "Global Entrepreneurship Day: From Establishment to Expansion and Investment" to mark Global Entrepreneurship Day.Held in collaboration with the Young Entrepreneurs Center, the session brought together a distinguished group of entrepreneurs, experts, and representatives of institutions supporting Qatar's entrepreneurship ecosystem.The session highlighted the entrepreneurial journey from establishing a business and navigating its early stages to achieving growth, expansion, and investment. It also explored key challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurs, while providing a platform for participants to exchange experiences, practical insights, and lessons learned to support the sustainability, development, and growth of their businesses.Discussions also covered several topics related to the entrepreneurship ecosystem, including how to transform ideas into viable, scalable businesses; the importance of developing sustainable business models; market research and opportunity identification; as well as the challenges faced by startups during the establishment and expansion stages. It also addressed access to financing and investment and the importance of building strategic partnerships.During the session, speakers shared insights from their professional experiences, emphasizing the importance of developing entrepreneurial skills and leveraging incubation programs, business accelerators, and other support initiatives. They further highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability in navigating the rapidly changing business environment.Qatar Chamber noted that hosting the session reflects its commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and business owners and strengthening their capabilities by providing platforms that bring them together with experts and institutions supporting entrepreneurship.
