The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) announced that the Canadian firm Fiera Capital has joined its platform and established a local office in Qatar.In a statement issued on Wednesday, QFC described Fiera Capital as a leading independent asset management firm with approximately USD 115 billion in assets under management as of June 2026.The Centre indicated that Fiera’s UK subsidiary has received initial authorization from the QFC Regulatory Authority and will operate as Fiera Capital (UK) LTD QFC Branch in Qatar.CEO of QFC, Mansoor Rashid Al Khater, stressed the significance of Fiera Capital’s licensing, saying, "Fiera Capital is a welcome addition to QFC’s financial services community. The decision by an established international asset manager to open a local office reflects growing confidence in Qatar as a regional financial hub and adds further depth to our asset management sector.”For his part, Executive Director and CEO, Fiera Capital for EMEA and Asia, Klaus Schuster, commented, ‘’Opening an office in Qatar allows us to work more closely with investors in the market and to contribute to the country's ambitions under National Vision 2030. We are grateful to the QFC for its partnership as we get started."QFC is an onshore business and financial center located in Doha, providing an excellent platform for firms to do business in Qatar and the region. The QFC offers its own legal, regulatory, tax and business environment, which allows up to 100% foreign ownership, 100% repatriation of profits, and charges a competitive rate of 10% corporate tax on locally sourced profits.

As part of its efforts to strengthen social protection and improve access to healthcare for the most vulnerable groups, Qatar Charity has implemented a comprehensive healthcare project in Rwanda, benefiting 14,904 people over the course of a full year. The project was funded by Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and implemented in coordination with the relevant Rwandan government authorities and institutions.The project aims to help eligible families access essential and specialized healthcare services without financial hardship by covering their contributions to Rwanda's community-based health insurance scheme. This support helps improve beneficiaries' health and well-being, enhance their quality of life, and strengthen household stability.As part of follow-up visits to monitor the project's implementation and strengthen cooperation with official partners, Godfrey Kayigana, Director General of Social Affairs and Community Development at Rwanda's Ministry of Local Government, highlighted the project's humanitarian impact and its role in expanding access to essential healthcare services for vulnerable families.The Rwandan official expressed his sincere appreciation to Qatar Charity for its effective management of the project and its commitment to transparency in beneficiary selection. He noted that these efforts help ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most, contributing to their well-being and supporting sustainable development within Rwandan society. He also described Qatar Charity as a trusted partner in humanitarian and development work.Beneficiaries were selected in coordination with Rwanda's Ministry of Local Government and the Mufti of the Republic of Rwanda, Sheikh Musa Sindayigana. This coordination helped ensure that support reached the most vulnerable families in accordance with clear and transparent criteria, prioritizing those with the greatest needs.During field visits, the delegation followed up on the project's progress and met with several beneficiaries, who spoke about the importance of the health insurance coverage provided through the initiative.The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for being able to access healthcare services covered by the scheme, explaining that the cost of medical care had previously made it difficult for them to obtain the treatment they needed, given their limited incomes and household expenses.The project reflects the commitment of Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to supporting sustainable development programmes implemented by Qatar Charity and strengthening health security for vulnerable groups. It also embodies the values of solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, contributing to a better quality of life for thousands of people and their families.

HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, met on Wednesday with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Eduardo Ramirez, who is visiting the country.During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the two countries, in addition to several topics of mutual interest.Vice Foreign Minister of Venezuela expressed his country's gratitude to the State of Qatar for establishing an air bridge to support those affected by the two earthquakes that struck the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.

His Excellency Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi met today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski.The meeting reviewed cooperative relations and ways to support and develop them, as well as the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts and joint coordination aimed at de-escalation and the strengthening of security and stability in the region.During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland commended the State of Qatar's mediation role and its diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means. 

Young people worldwide are exploring how artificial intelligence, education, and future employment will reshape their lives, as Qatar hosts an international forum to equip youth to anticipate change and shape future policies. The Ministry of Sports and Youth, in co-operation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), is hosting the Strategic Foresight Forum on Global Youth Competencies and Lifelong Learning, which brings together youth delegates, policymakers and experts to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities. The forum runs from October 11 to 15 and includes participants from 19 ICESCO member states, along with more than 95 Qatari youth, according to the ministry. For participants, the discussions offer an opportunity to look beyond immediate challenges and consider how today’s decisions could shape the world they inherit in 2040. “Since in 2040, we will not just be imagining our future; we as the youth will be living in it,” said Muhammad Hizyam Hamid, representing the Republic of Maldives. He said the forum’s outcomes could help shape future policies, particularly as young people prepare to take on leadership roles.Malaysian participant Mohammed Haqimi bin Mohd Azhar, 26, highlighted the importance of preparing young people for a world increasingly shaped by technology. “I think this forum is very impactful, very interesting because in this era, every youth needs to work alongside the technologies and also the AI that have been created in the world right now,” he said. His comments reflect one of the forum’s central themes: equipping young people with the skills and foresight needed to adapt to rapid technological change. Uzbekistan’s Shakzoda Ikromova said she hoped to learn how different countries develop and implement youth policies, particularly in education and higher learning. “Yesterday, we talked about how AI could impact our future careers and education,” she said, adding that she wanted to take the knowledge gained back to Uzbekistan and apply it to policy development. Qatari participant Fatma AlSulaiti said the discussions would focus on different scenarios, challenges and recommendations for young people. She expressed hope that the forum would help youth voices gain a stronger place in decision-making. “Inshallah, in the future, we will bring our voices on the table,” she said. Ministry of Sports and Youth spokesperson Abdulaziz Mohammed Shaheen said the event aims to strengthen youth leadership and develop the skills needed to face future challenges. “The goal of this event is to improve the youth leadership qualities and improve their different skills in order to face challenges in the future,” he said. The programme includes dialogue sessions, round-table discussions, practical foresight workshops and an interactive youth lab titled “A Message from 2040”, where participants explore possible future scenarios and translate ideas into practical recommendations. The forum also seeks to encourage international co-operation and knowledge-sharing among young leaders, while strengthening their ability to contribute to discussions on education, lifelong learning and the jobs of the future. For the young delegates, the challenge extends beyond predicting what lies ahead. It is about ensuring that the next generation has the skills, confidence and opportunity to help shape it. 

IECON 2026, the annual conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES), will make its Middle East and Africa debut in Doha next week, with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) hosting the conference from October 18-21. The flagship annual conference of IES, being held at the Doha Sheraton Hotel, will be focusing on contemporary industry topics ranging from power electronics, power systems, controls, manufacturing, to computational intelligence and communications. The event will showcase Qatar’s growing role in research, innovation, technology, and international scientific collaboration, bringing together researchers, engineers, and industry leaders from around the world to share advances and address emerging challenges in industrial electronics. The conference aims to provide high-quality research and professional interactions to advance science, technology, and fellowship. “With nearly 2,000 paper submissions, this year’s conference reflects the strong engagement of our global industrial electronics community. Bringing this programme together despite the challenges has been a collective achievement, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed. As the flagship annual conference of the IES, IECON brings together researchers, engineers, and industry leaders to share advances and address emerging challenges in industrial electronics,” the conference chairs said in a message. This year’s programme features keynote lectures, technical and special sessions, tutorials, industry activities and panel discussions spanning power electronics, robotics and mechatronics, renewable energy, smart grids, cybersecurity, digital twins, and artificial intelligence for industrial applications. The conference aims to create a forum for scientists and practising engineers worldwide to present the latest research findings and ideas in industrial electronics, as well as potential contributions to sustainable development and environmental preservation. “IECON 2026 has already demonstrated its significance through impressive statistics: we have received a strong number of paper submissions, with contributions from researchers across various countries, reflecting the global interest in the conference themes. “A rigorous peer review process, conducted by our expert track chairs, session organisers, and reviewers worldwide, ensures the highest technical quality of the accepted papers,” said the technical chairs of the conference. The four-day conference will cover several emerging topics in the field and include several workshops. During the opening ceremony, Prof Xiaohong Guan, from Xian Jiaotong University, China, will deliver a keynote speech on ‘Physical Systems in the Age of Intelligence and Networking’. The session will highlight how networking, intelligence, and integration of cyber and physical systems represent a major trend in the development of information science and technology. He will highlight how cyber-physical systems form the foundation of the industrial, energy, and technological revolutions, presenting tremendous challenges in cyber-physical modelling, intelligent design, system optimisation, and control. The talk will also focus on how hydrogen-enabled zero-carbon energy systems provide an ideal infrastructure and offer cost-efficient solutions for energy supply and consumption without carbon emissions or pollution. The second keynote speaker at the opening session is Prof Maryam Saeedifard from the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, who will speak on ‘Next-Generation Grid Architectures in the Era of Power Electronics & AI.’ This keynote explores next-generation grid architectures in which power-electronic interfaces play a central and coordinated role across transmission systems, distribution networks, and large-scale load integration. 

 Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), participated in the 84th session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo. Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Khalifa bin Issa al-Kubaisi. The participation aimed to strengthen joint Arab co-operation in social development and protection, and support efforts to empower families and the most vulnerable groups.

 Qatar Airways has issued a travel alert regarding its flights to Saudi Arabia, temporarily suspending flights to Riyadh and Dammam.  The airline added that it is closely monitoring developments in Saudi Arabia in co-ordination with the relevant authorities and, as a result of the current situation, has suspended flights to both destinations.  Qatar Airways called on passengers to check their flight status by visiting its website or through the mobile app, stressing that the safety of passengers and crew remain its top priority.It added that affected passengers will be contacted directly, with further updates shared on the carrier’s website.

Qatar Museums (QM) will stage the world premiere of Again, a powerful new musical theatre production exploring the histories of struggle for freedom and self-determination in South Africa and Palestine.  Developed from an original idea by writer and historian Tariq Ali, the production by Isango Ensemble brings together South African performers and Palestinian testimony in a new work of musical theatre exploring the connections between these distinct histories. Taking place at the Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre in Souq Waqif from October 27 to 31, 2026, Again is presented in association with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, creating space for dialogue and critical cultural conversations through live performance.  A collaboration between South Africa’s Olivier Award-winning Isango Ensemble, and Palestinian writer Sondos Sabra, Again was commissioned by Qatar Museums. Directed by Isango Ensemble co-founder and artistic director Mark Dornford-May, with associate director Max Roberts, and choreographer Lungelo Ngamlana, the production marks the first appearance of Isango Ensemble in the Gulf region.  Zeina Arida, Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, said: “Again doesn’t ask audiences to observe history from a distance, it puts South African and Palestinian testimony on the same stage and asks us to listen. That is exactly the conversation Mathaf exists to host, and we are delighted that these talented performers will embark on their first journey in the Gulf here, in Doha.”  Mark Dornford-May, Artistic Director of Again, said: “Again is about what happens when stories that are too often considered separately are allowed to speak to one another. As a South African company, Isango Ensemble bring their own lived and inherited experience of apartheid and resistance into the room, alongside Sondos’s words and Palestinian testimony. Our task has been to bring those voices together through music, movement and performance without collapsing their differences, and to create something that feels immediate, human and alive.”  Palestinian writer Sondos Sabra said: “When I wrote these words, I was trying to hold on to moments that might otherwise disappear to people, places and memories, and to the reality of what it means to live through loss and displacement. I never imagined they would find their way onto a stage. Hearing them carried by other voices is painful, but it is also a form of survival. If a story can still be told, it has not been erased.”  Tariq Ali, writer and historian, said: “Three years ago, I had the idea of bringing together two histories — South Africa and Palestine — and I’m pleased that Isango Ensemble have developed that idea for the stage. Many thanks to Qatar Museums, Mathaf and all who have played an important part in making this production a reality.”  Combining music, movement, and spoken word, the 90-minute production brings histories and experiences from South Africa and Palestine into dialogue, exploring themes of resistance and struggles for liberation. The production draws extensively on the words and testimony of Sabra, including selections from her diaries published in Voices of Resistance: Diaries of Genocide by Comma Press.  Featuring a 15-member ensemble, Again weaves Sabra’s words with the performers lived and inherited experiences of apartheid, industrial decline, working-class resistance, conflict, and displacement. Created over two years, the production features newly composed music, choral performance, physical movement and live testimony. The performance is presented as part of the Qatar Creates Fall/Winter 2026-27 season as well as Evolution Nation, an 18-month campaign honouring Qatar’s cultural journey over the past 50 years.
