The consultative sessions on the National Human Rights Action Plan 2026-2030 - organized by the committee designated to prepare the National Human Rights Action Plan, continued on Sunday.The consultative session was hosted by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, and chaired by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.During the session, several topics related to the Shura Council's specializations and competencies were discussed, in addition to proposals and guidelines that support the preparation of the plan in a way that enhances its alignment with national policies and legislation.At the end of the session, the importance of the National Human Rights Action Plan was emphasized as a national framework that promotes the protection of human rights.

The State of Qatar announced, in its capacity as a mediator, the launch of the Lake Lucerne Summit and the first meeting of a high-level committee bringing together representatives of the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the two mediating states, the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, hoping that the meetings would lead to a comprehensive and lasting agreement addressing all issues covered by the memorandum of understanding. In remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, said specialized technical and expert working groups had been established to negotiate the provisions of a final agreement covering all aspects of the memorandum of understanding. He added that follow-up groups had also been formed to oversee implementation of the memorandum and monitor progress toward the conclusion of a final agreement, reflecting the commitment of all parties to move forward with the negotiating process in good faith and to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement. Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar, as one of the mediating states, would continue working with Pakistan and all relevant parties to foster a positive environment that would enable the negotiations to achieve their objectives. He said the effort stemmed from Qatar's firm belief that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of resolving conflicts and settling disputes. Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed Qatar's appreciation for the important role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a partner and mediator in the process, praising its close cooperation and efforts in support of the negotiations. He further expressed Qatar's appreciation for the commitment of the United States and Iran to diplomatic solutions, as well as for the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Turkiye, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, along with other friendly and sisterly countries, which helped create favorable conditions for advancing the process. Dr. Al Ansari reiterated the State of Qatar's full support for all efforts aimed at ensuring the success of the negotiations and reaching a final agreement that would strengthen lasting peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region.

 Qatar’s food security achievements are being positioned as competitive levers in the global agrifood economy, an official of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries. According to Wagner Albuquerque de Almeida, Regional Industry director for Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) at the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), Qatar has “done a fantastic job” reducing the volatility and the risks of food security that the IFC has observed in the past.  Almeida recently spoke at the launch of a food security and agrifood investment study hosted by the US-Qatar Business Council Doha (USQBC Doha), in partnership with IFC, where he described Qatar’s domestic resilience as a commercial advantage that attracts investment and stabilises supply chains.  He also lauded Qatar for achieving 98% self sufficiency in dairy and poultry, which he noted as a “remarkable achievement” that strengthens the country’s agrifood base. According to Almeida, Qatar is ranked “fourth globally” in food affordability, despite importing most of its food, underscoring the strength of its supply chains. He explained that affordability is sustained through stable trade networks, which create predictable conditions for investors.  He noted that Qatar supplies about 14% of global urea exports, making it a critical player in agricultural inputs. “This dual capacity, domestic resilience and international supply, positions Qatar as a hub for agrifood resilience in emerging and developing markets,” Almeida pointed out.  He emphasised that food security cannot be solved by one actor alone, noting that Qatar’s model demonstrates how government, private sector, and international partners can align to reduce volatility.  Almeida said Qatar’s achievements should be scaled across regions, linking upstream and downstream value chains to strengthen resilience for both Qatar and partner countries.He noted that Qatar’s logistics capabilities and capital provide a platform for investment opportunities in the US$4tn global agrifood market. Almeida added that Qatar’s food security gains are not only about resilience but also about creating commercial opportunities that can be scaled across emerging economies. 

Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a series of economic empowerment initiatives and provided social assistance to vulnerable families and persons with disabilities in Memaliaj, southern Albania, with the support of donors in Qatar. The projects are aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening social and economic stability among vulnerable groups. The interventions focus on enabling low-income families to become more self-reliant through income-generating opportunities that enhance livelihoods and contribute to food security. They also seek to support people with disabilities and improve their quality of life, in line with a sustainable development approach that is centred on long-term impact. As part of the initiative, the QC distributed 38 electric ovens to underprivileged families and families of orphans. In addition, 26 agricultural machines were provided to households that rely on farming as their main source of income, helping to boost productivity and enhance food security. Several wheelchairs were also delivered to people with disabilities. The launch event was attended by Memaliaj mayor Albert Malaj along with municipal representatives, and Bledar Macka, the programme manager at Qatar Charity’s Albania Branch. Speaking at the event, Macka said that the projects reflect a practical response to the needs of vulnerable families, helping to improve their living standards and strengthen their productive capacity. Malaj expressed his appreciation for the QC’s continued support. 

The State of Qatar has expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack that targeted Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger, and resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.In a statement issued Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar's firm stance against violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, regardless of the motives or reasons.The Ministry expressed the State of Qatar's condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Niger, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has received a commendation from the UK-based Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) in the 2026 Health and Safety in the Workplace category.This came at the CIHT Annual Awards ceremony in London, where Qatar Rail was recognized for its efforts in improving safety practices and culture at work.The commendation reflects the success of a comprehensive programme implemented throughout 2024 and 2025 to strengthen workplace health and safety, protect employees and passengers, and embed a proactive safety culture across Qatar Rail's operations and networks.This also reflects Qatar Rail's structured approach, with health and safety embedded in annual business planning and supported by clear milestones, performance indicators, and risk management measures.As part of its continuous improvement efforts, Qatar Rail updated its Zero Harm standard and launched a three-year plan to strengthen safety performance through improved leading indicators, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, expanded training, stronger senior management engagement, and closer collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva participated on Friday in organizing a side event entitled "The Next Generation of Humanity: Youth Leadership in International Humanitarian Law" in cooperation with the Permanent Missions of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federative Republic of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva, as well as QatarDebate Center. The event was held on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva and was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions, international and regional organizations, civil society organizations, and stakeholders involved in international humanitarian law, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding. Speaking on the occasion, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah stressed that addressing existing gaps in the implementation of international humanitarian law requires renewed political commitment and collective action. Her Excellency emphasized that states bear the primary responsibility for respecting and ensuring respect for international humanitarian law. HE Dr. Al Muftah further underlined the importance of a collective role for the international community-particularly the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, civil society, and regional actors-in promoting compliance with international humanitarian law, supporting accountability mechanisms, facilitating humanitarian access, and enhancing the protection of civilians in situations of armed conflict. She reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast commitment to advancing respect for international humanitarian law and supporting its implementation at the national, regional, and international levels. In this regard, she noted that the State of Qatar currently serves as co-chair of the third workstream on International Humanitarian Law and Peace under the International Committee of the Red Cross' Global Initiative.Her Excellency also highlighted the unanimous adoption by the Human Rights Council in October 2025 of the resolution entitled "Promoting and Protecting the Human Rights of Women and Children in and after Conflict: Ensuring Justice, Remedies and Reparation for Victims," jointly presented by the State of Qatar and the Republic of Costa Rica. She noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening protection, accountability, and access to justice for victims of armed conflict.The event featured remarks by Permanent Representative of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Akram Al Harahsheh;  Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Office in Geneva Tovar da Silva Nunes; Anne Quintin of the International Committee of the Red Cross; Managing and Strategic Director of QatarDebate Center Abdulrahman Al Subaie; and Ali Khaled Al Mawlawi of QatarDebate Center. The discussion was moderated by Sheikha Noor Mohammed Al Thani of QatarDebate Center. The event was organized amid continuing challenges related to the implementation of international humanitarian law in contemporary conflicts. It aimed to promote greater respect for the rules and principles of international humanitarian law, address persistent implementation gaps, and highlight the role of young people in raising awareness of humanitarian principles and fostering a culture of respect for international humanitarian law.

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a major humanitarian campaign titled “Every Refugee Tent Holds a Story” to mark World Refugee Day, which is observed annually on June 20. The initiative aims to shed light on the harsh realities faced by displaced populations worldwide, amplify their hopes for a better future, and deliver integrated relief and development aid to the most vulnerable communities. Aligning with global efforts to protect displaced people, the campaign focuses on safeguarding refugee rights and easing their daily hardships. By securing vital food, water, shelter, and medical care, the initiative works to restore basic living standards. Through this targeted push, the QC is mobilising both public and institutional support to ensure refugee families can rebuild their lives in safety, stability, and dignity. With the support of donors, the campaign targets refugees from several countries, including Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Myanmar (Rohingya refugees), Syria, and Palestine. These populations are hosted across several countries such as Pakistan, Ethiopia, Chad, Egypt, Kenya, Djibouti, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkiye, and Lebanon. The campaign focuses on a wide range of humanitarian interventions. These include the provision of food, clean water, and sanitation services, as well as shelter support and non-food items. It also covers healthcare services, access to education for children, and programmes that strengthen refugees’ resilience and ability to cope with displacement conditions. These efforts aim to improve living conditions and help restore stability in their daily lives. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, the executive director of communications and community impact at the QC, urged donors and the public to support the cause. He noted that the suffering of refugees is a daily reality for families who have lost everything, adding that every donation brings hope and warmth back to camps exhausted by waiting. Refugee aid is a major part of the QC’s interventions. In 2025, the organisation spent QR645mn on relief projects, helping 10mn people globally. The largest portion of this aid went to urgent humanitarian situations in Palestine (including Gaza), Syria, and Sudan. Donors can contribute to the campaign through multiple convenient channels. Options include using the QC’s website or mobile app, calling the hotline at 44290000, or requesting a “Home Collector” through the application. Donations are also accepted in person at Qatar Charity branches and collection booths inside local shopping malls. 

As Souq Waqif welcomes residents and tourists seeking a cultural escape from the summer heat, potter Sameh Farag continues a tradition that began long before Qatar’s modern skyline. Along the corridor of Souq Waqif’s trade centre leading to Farag’s store, 18 of 20 souvenir shops sell products manufactured in other countries. Holding onto the traditional spirit the market represents, his workshop is filled exclusively with handmade pottery. “My friend and I, and others from Egypt, were sent to work in Qatar and make handicrafts with clay, glass and any material,” Farag said, explaining that the aim was to reduce reliance on manufactured goods in souvenir shops. Since arriving in Qatar 15 years ago, he has channelled his artistry through the cultures of both his adopted home and his birthplace. Traditional Qatari symbols sit alongside familiar Egyptian figures, reflecting the cultural influences that define his work. Farag’s pottery practice comes from a long line of craftsmen in his family. Growing up, he watched his father work with clay, learning the same techniques his grandfather had passed down. “I am continuing what they started, shaping clay the same way they did, but in a new place,” Farag said. With Souq Waqif remaining a key destination for visitors seeking a glimpse of Qatar’s heritage, the potter hopes his craftsmanship will continue to be part of that experience, where handmade work can stand out amid the growing presence of mass-produced goods.
