 Qatar's Anti-Doping Agency, in co-operation with the organising committee of the GCC Games Doha 2026, has held a specialised training workshop aimed at strengthening technical and organisational readiness ahead of the regional event.The session brought together 100 officials involved in anti-doping operations, including sample collectors, inspectors and support staff.The workshop formed part of wider preparations for the fourth Gulf Games, which Qatar will host in 2026, and focused on ensuring compliance with international standards set by the World Anti-Doping Agency.Training covered registration procedures for doping control personnel, their responsibilities during competitions, and the latest updates to international anti-doping regulations and protocols. Participants also reviewed methods for identifying and addressing procedural errors, as well as awareness programs and knowledge-sharing practices.A key feature of the session was the introduction of the official mascot of the Gulf Games, which was presented to participants as part of efforts to strengthen the event's identity and public engagement.Officials said the workshop is designed to ensure that all testing and monitoring activities during the Games are conducted with high standards of integrity and transparency, promoting fair competition and athlete protection.Qatar Anti-Doping Agency representatives said the initiative reflects broader efforts to build a drug-free sporting environment through regulation, education and enforcement in line with global anti-doping frameworks.  

 HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani met yesterday with the UN Under-Secretary-General of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Co-ordinator, Tom Fletcher, at the Permanent Mission headquarters in New York.During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen the vital partnership between Qatar and the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).  

Al Shahania retained their place in the Qatar Stars League for next season as they quelled Al Kharaitiyat’s challenge 3-0 in their Play-Off match at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium yesterday.Al Kharaitiyat were aiming to make a return to Qatar’s top flight league but their hopes were dashed as Abdoulaye Traore (30th minute), Moaz Tawhed Elwadia (53rd minute), and Andreas Van Beek (62nd minute) struck for Al Shahania.Both sides were tight-fisted in defence at the start until Al Shahania’s Ivorian winger Traore broke the deadlock as he picked on a long ball from Francesco Antonucci to dash in and beat two defenders and the rival goalkeeper.Al Kharaitiyat tried to hit back as action resumed in the second half but Al Shahania’s goalkeeper Shehab Mamdouh Ellethy made a well-timed leap to push out a long free kick.Seven minutes later, Elwadia doubled Al Shahania’s lead as he intercepted a Pelle van Amersfoort header assist before shooting it in.More joy awaited Al Shahania as their Dutch star Andreas Van Beek deflected in a Marc Martinez free kick - taken from about 20 yards on the right – to make the scoreline 3-0.Al Shahania had ended their Qatar Stars League campaign in 11th place with 21 points to be pushed into the relegation contest while Al Kharaitiyat had finished as runners-up in the Second Division. 

Qatar has strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on the United Arab Emirates, involving two ballistic missiles and three drones, which resulted in injuries to three people. Qatar considered the attacks a blatant violation of the UAE's sovereignty and a serious threat to the security and stability of the region. In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Qatar's full solidarity with the UAE and its support for all measures taken by the UAE to preserve its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. The ministry also expressed Qatar's wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured.

 Senior officials, policymakers and experts from Europe and the Gulf gathered in Milan yesterday for a high-level initiative focused on strengthening co-operation between the European Union and the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) amid growing regional instability.The event, held at Palazzo Clerici, was organised by the Doha Forum and MED Dialogues in partnership with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the Centre for International Policy Research (CIPR).Held under the title "Bridging Stability: EU-GCC Co-operation in an Era of Fragmentation", the initiative examined co-ordinated responses to a rapidly evolving post-conflict regional landscape.Discussions centred on the impact of the ongoing war involving Iran and its wider regional consequences, including implications for regional stability, global energy markets and economic security.Participants also explored opportunities to deepen EU-GCC co-operation in areas such as security, crisis management, energy resilience and trade, with particular attention given to the Gulf region, the Levant and strategic maritime corridors.The plenary session featured Adviser to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari alongside Luigi Di Maio, the European Union's Special Representative for the Gulf.Speaking during the session, Dr al-Ansari said that the Gulf represented "a stable partner for Europe in security and energy", adding that the current regional crisis demonstrated the depth of shared interests between both sides."Moving forward requires sustained and structured co-operation capable of withstanding periods of instability," he said.Di Maio said that Gulf and European security were "closely interconnected and inseparable", stressing the importance of building a partnership capable of confronting shared challenges."The question today is no longer whether co-operation is necessary, but whether we are building the frameworks and levels of trust required to act decisively," he said.Closed-door discussions during the initiative focused on the future shape of the regional order after the conflict, defence co-operation, and energy and industrial policy, with participants underlining the need to translate dialogue into co-ordinated action.The programme concluded with a reception hosted by the Consulate-General of Qatar in Milan.Organisers also confirmed that the 24th edition of the Doha Forum will be held in Doha on December 5-6, under the theme *Redefining Global Trust, bringing together world leaders and policymakers to discuss international co-operation and confidence-building in a rapidly changing global environment.

 The Qatar Football Association's Referees Committee announced today the appointment of referee Abdullah Al Athba to officiate the 2026 Amir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa, slated for Saturday at Khalifa International Stadium. Al Athba will be assisted by Yousef Aref as first assistant referee and Zahi Al Shammari as second assistant referee. Nasser Ayesh will serve as the fourth official, and Falah Al Shahrani as the reserve assistant referee.Meshari Al Shammari will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), assisted by Mohammed Al Sharif as VAR 1 and Talib Salem as VAR 2. Al Gharafa qualified for the final after defeating Al Wakrah, while Al Sadd advanced by defeating Al Duhail in the two semi-final matches.

Representatives of the United States and several Arab countries held joint consultations at the United Nations on a draft Security Council resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz amid renewed diplomatic efforts to safeguard one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.According to a statement issued after the meeting, Bahrain, in co-ordination with the US and backed by Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, submitted the draft resolution to the UN Security Council as part of ongoing consultations on Gulf maritime security.The statement described the Strait of Hormuz as one of the world’s most vital waterways, underscoring its strategic importance for Gulf stability and the global economy. It said recent developments had reinforced the urgency of preserving the security of the passage and ensuring that it remains fully open to international navigation.Bahrain’s representative said the draft text, presented as a continuation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, calls on Iran to immediately halt all attacks and threats against commercial shipping. The proposal also addresses concerns related to the laying of sea mines and what it described as illegal towing operations.The representative added that the draft was rooted in the principle of freedom of navigation under international law and aimed to support efforts toward sustainable peace and dialogue in the region.The latest diplomatic move comes after an earlier, more forceful draft resolution failed to pass the Security Council in April following vetoes by Russia and China. Diplomats and international media reports said the revised text was deliberately softened to improve chances of broader support and avoid another deadlock at the Council.Reports from New York indicated that Security Council members have entered a fresh phase of closed consultations on the revised proposal rather than a formal public voting session.The Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of global concern, with nearly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas trade passing through the narrow waterway connecting the Gulf to international markets.
