The Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers celebrated the National Sport Day (NSD) by holding joint events on the campus of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), with broad participation from the staff of the ministry and UDST and their families. The joint event included twelve sports activities, including walking and warm-up exercises, soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tug of war, foot bowling (kickball), trampolining, and target shooting. The activities also included sports events for children aimed at helping them internalise a culture of sport and interest in physical activity from an early age, and reinforcing awareness of the significance of practising sport as a healthy lifestyle for all age groups, including jump rope, sack races, and face painting. On the margins of the ministry’s events, His Excellency Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali bin Issa al-Hassan al-Mohannadi emphasised that this celebration embodies the vision of the judicious leadership of the nation in strengthening the culture of sports and making it part of community life, as it plays a pivotal role in enhancing physical and mental health, as well as building a vibrant society capable of keeping up with the requirements of modern life. The minister pointed out that the aforementioned Amiri Decision underscores the attention the nation gives to humans, as they represent the lynchpin of development, stressing that the adoption of this day reflects Qatar’s commitment to having a sport-supporting environment in place for all age groups, thereby helping improve quality of life and reinforcing social cohesion. Health awareness and educational activities were organised concurrently, including an on-site health fair where health guidance was provided and biometric screenings were offered to participants, aiming to enhance health awareness among staff and their families and guide them toward healthy lifestyles that promote community safety awareness and improve quality of life. The event also showcased friendly contests between participants from the two government institutions, culminating in the distribution of cups and medals to the winners, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and elation throughout the celebration. The Ministry of Justice and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers underlined the importance of this participation in building a healthy community capable of keeping up with modern lifestyles, epitomising the objectives of Amiri Decision No 80 of 2011, on the adoption of the nation’s National Sport Day, with adherence to the standards and conditions announced by the Sport Day Committee. Overall, the UDST activities were marked by their diversity and engagement of participants across different age groups, with a strong emphasis on encouraging employees to adopt physical activity as a sustainable healthy lifestyle. The event also featured a friendly walking contest organised by the Public Relations and Communications Department, which awarded prizes to the 25 participants who were among the first to achieve 10,000 steps during the morning of the National Sport Day. 

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs honoured participants and instructors in the programmes and courses of the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute for the year 2025, during a ceremony held at Imam Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque. The award ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem al-Ghanem, Undersecretary of the Ministry Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Da‘wah and Mosques Affairs Mohammed bin Hamad al- Kuwari, and several ministry directors and professionals working in the field of da‘wah. This was part of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ ongoing efforts to raise the standards of imams, preachers, khateebs, muezzins, researchers, and Islamic jurists, and its commitment to qualifying them academically and professionally, enabling them to fulfil their educational and da‘wah mission on sound scholarly foundations that keep pace with the requirements of the modern era. The ceremony recognised a distinguished group of outstanding participants in scientific, skills-based, and specialised courses. The total number of beneficiaries of the Institute’s programmes during 2025 reached approximately 2,900, encompassing Shariah, knowledge-based, skills, administrative, and specialised programmes targeting various categories working in the da‘wah field. On this occasion, Director of the Da‘wah and Religious Guidance Department at the ministry Jassim al-Ali, said that the recognition represents a culmination of a journey of scholarly and da‘wah contributions. He noted that imams and preachers are the cornerstone of educational development and societal reform, and that their mission goes beyond the performance of rituals to include education, guidance, and awareness-building. He stressed the importance of continuing to seek knowledge and develop skills in line with contemporary developments, serving societal issues with a spirit of moderation and balance. For his part, participant Abdulrahman al-Bakri, one of the graduates of the New Qatari Imams Qualification Course, delivered a speech on behalf of the newly qualified Qatari imams, expressing his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Awqaf and the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute for the high-quality foundational programmes. He affirmed that the imamate was a responsibility, and a lifelong mission that requires good example and a balanced, conscious connection between society and religion. In this context, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs affirmed that the programmes of the Da‘wah and Islamic Sciences Institute are among the comprehensive, high-quality initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic and professional competence of imams and preachers. The ceremony concluded with handing out of certificates to outstanding participants and instructors.  

 The Ministry of Culture will host the Russian Cultural Week at Darb Al Saai on Wednesday. The hosting of the Russian Cultural Week, which will run until February 14, comes within the framework of Qatar's vision to promote civilisational dialogue, broaden cultural exchange with countries around the world, and reinforce culture as a shared space for human interaction.The Russian Cultural Week represents a significant milestone in the course of bilateral relations between Qatar and the Russian Federation, reflecting the positive development witnessed in these relations, particularly in the cultural field, which serves as one of the most prominent bridges of rapprochement and mutual understanding between peoples.The programme of the Russian Cultural Week includes a diverse range of activities showcasing the richness and diversity of Russian culture. Russian artistic and folk troupes will present heritage and musical performances, alongside exhibitions of artworks and handicrafts, workshops in drawing and visual arts, as well as live culinary experiences highlighting the uniqueness and diversity of Russian cuisine.These events provide the public in Qatar with an opportunity to closely engage with Russian cultural heritage and explore aspects of Russia's artistic and social identity, in an atmosphere that fosters cultural exchange and deepens dialogue between people.The Ministry of Culture affirmed its keenness for the Cultural Weeks season to serve as an effective platform for cultural openness and to reinforce Qatar's position as a hub for international cultural dialogue, contributing to the strengthening of bilateral relations with friendly and partner countries, and employing culture as a tool of cultural diplomacy to build bridges of communication and understanding among different cultures. 

The Ministry of Culture (MoC) will host the activities of the Tajikistan Cultural Week Sunday, as part of Qatar’s vision to promote civilisational dialogue, expand cultural exchange with various countries, and to establish culture as a shared space for human interaction. The Tajikistan Cultural Week will continue until February 10, offering an exceptional experience in the realms of Tajik culture and arts. The Tajikistan Cultural Week represents a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Qatar and Tajikistan, reflecting the positive developments in these relations, particularly in the cultural field, which is one of the most prominent bridges of understanding and closeness between the two friendly countries. The week’s programme includes a diverse array of events showcasing the richness and variety of Tajik culture, including traditional fashion shows, musical evenings, handicraft exhibitions, visual arts contributions, and other various activities. These cultural weeks are part of a continuous cultural journey that has achieved notable prominence in recent years. The current season continues this approach by hosting Tajikistan, followed by the Russian Cultural Week next Wednesday, highlighting the diversity of cultural partnerships and the expanding openness to different cultures.  

The Ministry of Culture, through its pavilion at the 57th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF), held a seminar discussing the book The History of Book Fairs in the State of Qatar by author Mishari Ali al-Namlan.At the outset of the seminar, al-Namlan explained that the book –published under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture – traces the beginnings of book fairs in Qatar and the circumstances surrounding the emergence of the idea, starting with the Doha International Book Fair, which was launched in 1972.He highlighted the fair's symbolic, cultural, and historical significance, emphasising that the Doha International Book Fair, inaugurated more than five decades ago, is considered the first book fair in the Gulf region and the third Arab book fair, following those of Cairo and Beirut.He noted that the launch of the Doha International Book Fair was preceded by an active cultural and intellectual publishing movement in Qatar.This movement began when the founder of the State, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, personally financed the printing of a number of books, including poetry collections, jurisprudence texts, Hadith compilations, and works on Qur’anic sciences and interpretation.Al-Namlan described this initiative as the foundational nucleus of Qatar's modern history in fostering interest in books through publishing, printing, distribution, and gifting to scholars and students of knowledge.He added that the presence of such intellectual activity prior to the establishment of the book fair ensured the strong success of the first edition of the Doha International Book Fair.He further said that the existence of public libraries in Qatar contributed to nurturing cultural engagement and attachment to books, beginning with the establishment of the Qatar National Library's predecessor, which originated from Al-Maaref Library and the Doha Public Library before their merger into this longstanding cultural institution.  

A delegation from the Ministry of Justice’s Legal and Judicial Studies Centre participated in the joint visits programme for judicial and legal training centres and institutes in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries for the years 2025-26.Organised by the GCC General Secretariat, the programme aims to enhance co-operation among member states in the fields of judicial and legal training.The Higher Judicial Institute of the Sultanate of Oman hosted the delegations from the GCC countries for the three-day visit.During the visit, they learned about the Sultanate's experience in judicial and legal training and qualification and explored ways to strengthen the exchange of expertise among GCC member states.The delegations also toured the institute's facilities, including the library, classrooms, and main hall, and received a brief presentation outlining the institute's history, academic programmes, and duration of study.The following day, the delegations held a meeting with Attorney-General Nasr bin Khamis al-Sawa'ee and Oman Supreme Judicial Council Secretary-General Issa bin Hamad al-Azri to learn about the Sultanate's judicial system.The visit included a cultural tour of the Royal Opera House Muscat, during which the delegations were briefed on the cultural and artistic role that the opera house plays and its significance as a landmark reflecting the Sultanate's commitment to fine arts and cultural exchange.The programme concluded with a visit to the Supreme Court, where the delegations met with Supreme Court Chairman Khalifa bin Said al-Busaidi. 

The Attorneys' Admission Committee, chaired by His Excellency Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi, convened Thursday at its permanent headquarters in the Ministry of Justice.At the outset of the meeting, HE the Minister welcomed the new members of the committee following the issuance of the ministerial decision No. 10 of 2026 to reconstitute it. He stressed the importance of the topics entrusted to the committee within its jurisdiction to develop the legal profession and consider new registration applications submitted, and to expedite their resolution, which reflects the role played by the legal profession in embodying the vision of the wise leadership to consolidate effective justice and advance the Qatari legal system, and the legal effort undertaken by lawyers as assistants to the judiciary.During the meeting, the committee reviewed the topics on its agenda, including the restructuring of its subcommittees, witnessed eight new lawyers taking the legal oath, and considered applications from several business owners to register as practicing lawyers.The committee also considered the requests of a number of new lawyers whose training period had ended, and approved the minutes of previous subcommittees, reviewing requests to transfer the registration of lawyers to the register of lawyers practicing before the Court of Cassation, and approving requests of lawyers under training, in addition to a number of organizational topics and controls for the work of the legal profession, including discussing a proposal to develop tests for lawyers applying for registration and practicing the profession, and appropriate decisions were made regarding them.The committee emphasized the need for the participants of the 16th mandatory program for lawyers in training to adhere to the approved program within the specialized legal training plan for 2026, and to commit to discipline in attending lectures according to the dates announced in the lecture schedule as stipulated in the training regulations of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. 

HE Legal Adviser to HE the Minister of Interior and General Supervisor of the Police Academy Dr Abdullah Yusuf al-Mal emphasised that, under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Police Academy continues to perform its national mission of preparing qualified officers with a comprehensive scientific and professional preparation that combines legal grounding and professionalism, within a modern training system that keeps pace with scientific and technological developments, and reflecting the latest concepts of security work.Marking the graduation of the 8th batch of cadets at the Police College of the Police Academy, His Excellency said that in line with the vision of the MoI and the directives of its senior leadership, the academy has been keen to develop its academic and training programmes to enhance the efficiency of graduates and to enable them to face renewed security challenges and deal with evolving crime patterns efficiently and competently, in accordance with the highest standards of discipline and professional responsibility.He added that with the successive batches of graduates from educational and training programmes, the Police Academy affirms its firm ability to supply the security agencies with distinguished national competencies, qualified to protect the security of the homeland and the safety of society, armed with the values ​​of discipline, loyalty and sincerity, and capable of contributing effectively to consolidating security and stability, preserving the gains of the state and enhancing its position regionally and internationally.President of the Police Academy Major General Abdulrahman Majid al-Sulaiti said the celebration at the Police Academy of the graduation of the 8th batch of cadets at the Police College is a celebration of the graduation of competent officers who are scientifically and practically trained in legal and police fields with advanced training and applied programmes, which strengthens the security and military sector with qualified Qatari cadres that meet the needs of the nation and achieves the strategic goals of the MoI.He added that the Police Academy, represented by the Police College, has made significant strides since its establishment, and in addition to the approved curricula and training, it continues to strive towards developing educational programmes to keep pace with the latest developments in the security field.In the same context, al-Sulaiti pointed out that the academy co-operates in the fields of training and exchange of scientific expertise with all prestigious security institutions locally and internationally to enrich its educational journey in general.In turn, Vice President of the Police Academy and Director of the Police College Colonel Dr Fahad Saeed al-Subaie voiced his happiness at the graduation of the 8th batch. He said that the 8th batch of college students who graduated are confident that they will be faithful to the message they carry, and capable of performing to the fullest extent, after they received advanced military training as well as in legal and police sciences. They have the knowledge and skills to qualify them for their practical lives in the military and police fields. He added that the college is certain that they will form a qualitative addition and a role model for their colleagues in the coming batches. He pointed out that the college has taken steady and confident steps in its journey of development and prosperity, striving to achieve its distinguished educational and training mission, and to consolidate its position among its counterparts from police colleges. 

Eng Abdullah Ahmed al-Karani, the assistant undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, has honoured public cleaning worker Mohamed Nour El-Din in recognition of his honesty and effective cooperation with the security authorities, after he discovered smuggled narcotic substances while performing his duties in the northern area of the country.The ceremony was attended by Eng Abdulaziz al-Rumaihi, the director of the Projects and Development Department at the Ministry of Municipality.This recognition came after El-Din directly reported the incident to the security authorities, in co-ordination with the operations manager at Lavajet Company.The security authorities then carried out the necessary field procedures, and the seized materials were confiscated in accordance with the applicable legal procedures. 

His Excellency the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari met with Minister of Finance and National Revenue of Canada, Francois-Philippe Champagne at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Doha, reports QNA.  The meeting addressed bilateral relations between the two countries and explored avenues for enhanced co-operation. Discussions also covered key economic, investment, and trade developments of mutual interest.

The Ministry of Culture has announced the opening of nominations for the Doha International Book Fair Award, from Jan. 17 to 1 March.The award aimes to shed light on the role played by the Doha International Book Fair in fostering the publishing industry at both local and international levels. It also aims to encourage publishing houses to place greater emphasis on knowledge-based content, cultural diversity, and high standards of artistic and technical production, while also motivating authors to pursue further creativity across various fields of knowledge. In addition, the award is designed to support young authors and to foster a spirit of competition, dialogue, and exchange among them.The terms and criteria for nomination across the various categories require publishing houses and authors to comply with intellectual property laws and to submit their publications in digital format through the award's official website. Submissions must demonstrate excellence in artistic production and reflect diversity in cultural, literary, and scientific content, in accordance with the approved regulations for each category.The award comprises eight categories. The first category, the Qatar Publishing Excellence Award, is open to applicants who hold a valid Qatari publishing license and are members of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum. A recent letter confirming membership and compliance with intellectual property laws is required. The publisher must have released no fewer than twenty new and diverse titles during the 2025-2026 nomination year. A list of participating Arabic-language, non-translated books, including International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs), must be submitted, and recent publications must be uploaded to the award website in PDF format. Applicants are also required to present a clear vision for the development of the publishing industry, with publications distinguished by high-quality artistic production and diverse cultural, literary, and scientific content. The prize value for this category is QAR 30,000.The second category, the International Publishing Excellence Award, requires applicants to hold a valid publishing license in their country and to be members of their national publishers' association or the Arab Publishers Association. A recent letter from the relevant publishers' union confirming membership and compliance with intellectual property laws must be provided. The publisher must have released at least thirty new and diverse titles during the 2025-2026 nomination year. A list of Arabic-language, non-translated books with ISBNs must be submitted, and the publications must be uploaded in PDF format to the award website. Applicants must demonstrate a clear vision for advancing the publishing industry, and the submitted works must be distinguished by excellence in artistic production and diversity of cultural, literary, and scientific content. The prize value is QAR 30,000.The third category, the Distinguished Qatari Publisher for Children's Books Award, is dedicated to Qatari publishers specializing in children's and young adult literature. Applicants must hold a Qatari publishing license and be members of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, supported by a recent letter confirming membership and compliance with intellectual property laws. The publisher must have released at least five new Arabic-language titles in children's and young adult literature during the 2025-2026 nomination year. Submissions must be uploaded in PDF format via the award website, along with a list of participating Arabic-language, non-translated titles including ISBNs. The publications must demonstrate excellence in artistic production and diversity of cultural, literary, and scientific content. The prize value is QAR 30,000.The fourth category, the Distinguished International Publisher for Children's Books Award, is open to international publishers specializing in children's and young adult literature. Applicants must hold a valid publishing license in their country and be members of their national publishers' association or the Arab Publishers Association, with a recent letter confirming membership and compliance with intellectual property laws. The publisher must have released at least ten new Arabic-language titles in children's and young adult literature during the 2025-2026 nomination year. The publications must be submitted in PDF format, accompanied by a list of Arabic-language, non-translated titles including ISBNs, and must demonstrate excellence in artistic production and diversity of cultural, literary, and scientific content. The prize value is QAR 30,000.The fifth category, the Distinguished Publisher for Translation Award, recognizes excellence in translation. Applicants must hold a Qatari publishing license and be members of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum. The translated works must be produced by the Qatari publishing house and reflect its output of translations from Arabic into other languages across all categories and subject areas over a three-year period. The submitted works must demonstrate high standards of artistic production and a rich diversity of cultural, literary, and scientific content. The prize value is QAR 30,000.The sixth category, the Creative Writer Award, is open to authors who submit the publisher's consent for participation, along with the author's curriculum vitae and a synopsis of the submitted book. Each author may participate with one individually authored book only, written in Arabic and not previously translated. The total word count must be no fewer than 20,000 words for Qatari authors and 25,000 words for international authors. The book must be uploaded in PDF format to the award website, accompanied by copies of personal identification and passport documents, with full compliance with intellectual property laws. The author must be alive at the time of nomination. The prize value is QAR 20,000.The seventh category, the Creative Young Qatari Writer Award, is limited to young Qatari authors. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a synopsis of the book, and the publisher's consent for participation. Each author may submit one individually authored, Arabic-language, non-translated book with a minimum of 20,000 words. The book must be uploaded in PDF format to the award website, along with copies of personal identification or passport documents, and compliance with intellectual property rights is required. The author must be alive at the time of nomination. The prize value is QAR 20,000.The eighth and final category, the Best Pavilion Award at the 35th Doha International Book Fair, honors the pavilion distinguished by its unique design and its ability to offer a comprehensive and immersive cultural experience. The prize value for this category is QAR 40,000. 

The volume of real estate trading in sales contracts at the Department of Real Estate Registration at the Ministry of Justice during the period from January 4-8, 2026 reached QR314,535,182.Meanwhile, the total sales contracts for residential units in the Real Estate Bulletin for the same period is QR56,817,055, bringing the total trading value for the week to QR371.352mn.The weekly bulletin issued by the Department shows that the list of real estate properties traded for sale has included vacant land, residences, commercial shops, a hotel, and residential units.Sales were concentrated in the municipalities of Al Rayyan, Doha, Al Daayen, Umm Salal, Al Wakra, Al Khor, Al Thakhira, Al Shamal, the areas of Lusail 69, Al Wukair, The Pearl, Legtaifiya, Ghar Thuailib, Al Khuraij, and Al Mashaf.Additionally, the volume of real estate trading in sales contracts at the Department of Real Estate Registration has exceeded QR395mn during the period from December 28, 2025-January 1, 2026.
