Tennis players will lose a longstanding exemption from strict anti-doping whereabouts requirements during tournaments from January 2027, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Wednesday.Changes to the World Anti-Doping Code require players in a sport's Registered Testing Pool (RTP) to provide a daily 60-minute testing window during competition from 2027, ending an exemption previously granted to tennis because of the unpredictability of players' schedules.The ITIA, an independent body that protects fairness in the game, said that it would reduce the size of its RTP, moving around 80% of players currently in the group to an expanded testing pool where the daily 60-minute requirement will not apply."Players who remain in the reduced RTP will be required to provide a daily 60-minute time slot like athletes in every WADA-compliant sport, both in and out of competition," the ITIA added.The number of players selected across both testing pools will be broadly consistent with the current testing pools, and testing frequency and volume are unlikely to change.The new rules will also provide greater protection for players who can establish that a positive test was caused by contamination, including through medication, food or drink, environmental exposure or another person.They will also provide greater flexibility in sanctions in certain circumstances, with rehabilitation-focused options for some recreational drug cases unrelated to sporting performance.Players will be informed in November which pool they have been assigned to, though individual classifications will not be made public.All players, regardless of their testing pool status, must provide a sample when requested by a doping control officer, with refusal carrying a potential ban of up to four years. 

A panel discussion at the Doha International Conference on AI and Security (Doha-AIS 2026) examined the challenges and opportunities emerging from advances in artificial intelligence (AI), as the conference took place alongside the 16th Milipol Qatar 2026.The panellists underscored the importance of beefing up digital innovation and intelligent forecasting mechanisms to substantially improve crisis-response efficiency and advance decision-making frameworks across a variety of critical sectors.Held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), the panel discussion brought together a pantheon of officials and technology and digital security specialists who discussed predictive intelligence, crisis leadership, and decision-making superiority. They delved into technological solutions and the strategic thrust toward leveraging AI in crisis management and decision-making processes.Director of the Digital Innovation Department at Qatar's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Iman al-Kuwari emphasised the pivotal significance of predictive AI in strengthening decision-making systems and crisis management. She noted that the primary challenges during crises do not stem from a shortage of information, but rather from tight time constraints and rapidly evolving circumstances.MCIT is committed to furnishing leaders and decision-makers with timely information and mechanisms designed to help them make proactive, well-informed decisions, al-Kuwari underscored, highlighting key integrated capabilities that serve as a model for Qatar's national AI system.She explained that these capabilities encompass a data fabric, designed to provide reliable, standardised information from various government entities and agencies; a prediction engine, intended to help institutions anticipate future developments with a high degree of confidence; and a decision-making cockpit, designed to steer leaders toward the most accurate options and analyses.The capabilities also include governance and accountability to ensure human responsibility, auditability, and data protection, alongside interoperability and expertise to bolster government integration and deliver efficient services to citizens and employees, al-Kuwari continued.Al-Kuwari further highlighted Qatar's substantial achievements in this field, particularly its deployment of predictive systems to manage crowd movements across eight stadiums during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.The integration of AI into legislative and research processes has also substantially reduced the time required to prepare analyses and responses from days to literally mere minutes, she asserted.For his part, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Dr Mohammad Saleh Ali AlShaikh underscored the importance of addressing operational and cybersecurity challenges. He noted that intelligent systems can effectively monitor unusual situations and help fend off potential cyberattacks targeting or tampering with stadium data.He added that efforts were being made to bolster routine and predictive maintenance to address dynamic loads and sudden electrical surges, thereby helping ensure the stability of the power supply to data centres.Research at HBKU focuses on integrating AI with physics to enhance predictive accuracy, safeguard data centre infrastructure, and improve the energy efficiency of graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), and the electrical grid in a hot climate such as Qatar's, Dr AlShaikh pointed out.For his part, Cisco Systems Senior Vice-President Dr Guy Diedrich said the world is experiencing an unprecedented pace of technological advancement in AI, stressing that flexibility, chameleon-like adaptability, and a prompt response to technological evolution are fundamental to growth and continuity in the decades ahead.Rapid advances in AI and quantum technologies are having a direct impact on network infrastructure and cybersecurity, Diedrich remarked, underscoring the acute need to invest in intelligent networks with high levels of security to safeguard against emerging digital risks and challenges at the same pace as these technologies evolve.Diedrich also highlighted findings from the company's AI Readiness Index, which showed that only about 13 percent of business leaders worldwide are fully prepared to work with AI technologies, despite substantial investment in this vital sector. The findings, he said, underscore the gap between the scale of investment and organisations' actual readiness to adapt to this digital transformation.Head of Global Defense at Scale AI William Long said AI has become a fundamental pillar of the defence sector and modern warfare, stressing that it is no longer merely an option but an integral part of military strategies that must be adopted to avoid adverse consequences.He explained that the rapid evolution in the use of AI agents and dynamic planning enables military institutions to integrate mult Republic of Korea is expanding its commercial presence in Qatar beyond energy and infrastructure through the market entry of halal-certified premium beef, according to the country’s top envoy here. The launch, held Sunday at The Meat Market in Doha, marks a strategic shift to introduce high-value consumer goods to the Qatari market, leveraging established brand trust in Korean technology and culture to broaden bilateral trade ties. On the sidelines of the launch event, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the State of Qatar, Jeepio Hong, told Gulf Times that the 50-year relationship between Korea and Qatar has traditionally focused on infrastructure and energy, but the introduction of Hanwoo beef serves as a foundation for broader economic engagement. Hong pointed out that introducing Hanwoo is not about replacing existing trade pillars, but about expanding the overall scope of exports. “We’ve showcased K-pop and K-culture, and one of the things that we’re trying to introduce to the world is K-food,” Hong emphasised, noting that beef holds significant value in Korean food traditions. Addressing Sunday’s gathering, Hong said: “Best of all, it is halal-certified. That means we can share a Korean tradition with Qatari families, while fully respecting their faith. Qatar is the only third halal market to welcome Hanwoo, after Malaysia and the UAE. “Korea and Qatar already have strong ties in energy, construction, and shipbuilding. But friendship is also built at the dinner table. I believe Hanwoo can become one more way to bring out two peoples together.” The institutional rollout is supported by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), which facilitated the entry of the halal-certified product through cross-border coordination. Hyuna Kim, director general of KOTRA Doha, stated that the achievement reflects the strong interest of Qatari consumers in Korean products, alongside cooperation between both governments and commercial entities. She was referring to Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), Hoengseong County; the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Qatar; KOTRA, and Hoengseong KC Co. “This achievement reflects the strong interest of Qatari consumers who appreciate Korean products, as well as the committed cooperation of both the Korean and Qatari governments and the exporting and importing companies of the two countries,” Kim explained. Kim added: “The successful introduction of Hoengseong Hanwoo, a premium Korean halal beef, to the Qatari market has been made possible through the collective dedication of all parties involved. The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency will continue its efforts to bring high-quality Korean products and services to Qatar.” At the operational level, Qatar represents the second GCC market to receive Hanwoo exports following an initial launch in the UAE last year, according to Won Suk Jun, CEO of exporter Hoengseong KC Co. Jun explained that Qatar was selected due to its high purchasing power, making it a suitable target for premium agricultural products. The initial export shipments consist of prime cuts, including striploin, tenderloin, and upper loin, with plans to introduce additional grades later. To handle supply and commercial distribution in Doha, Hoengseong KC Co is partnering directly with a major local distributor, Jun also said. Speaking at the event, Jun said he hopes the launch “will open a new chapter in Qatar’s premium halal meat market and serve as a catalyst for further cooperation between Korea and Qatar’s food and agricultural sectors.”
