Qatar University (QU) celebrated the graduation of a new cohort of students from the Honours Programme for the 2024-2025 academic year.The ceremony honoured 63 male and female graduates from various colleges of the university and was attended by faculty members, programme administrators, the members of the Honours Council, and students' families.The Honours Programme is one of QU's distinguished initiatives designed to support talented and high-achieving students. It provides a stimulating and unique experiential learning environment that emphasises research, innovation, and leadership development, contributing to the preparation of national talents capable of advancing the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.In her speech, Dean of General Studies at QU Dr Saba Qadhi stated that this day represents "a harvest of years of dedication and perseverance.”She added, "This event is not merely a certificate-awarding ceremony, but a celebration of all the achievements our students have accomplished.”Dr Qadhi added, "Today, we celebrate an outstanding generation of QU students who represent the future of our nation and the cornerstone of its development.” She also announced the establishment of the Honours Programme Alumni Association, scheduled to launch in Spring 2026. The association will serve as a platform connecting programme graduates with new students, strengthening community engagement and fostering a sense of belonging among programme members.In his address, Director of the Honours Programme at QU Dr Yousri Marzouki expressed his pride in graduating this cohort under the programme's enhanced framework. He emphasised that this day marks the culmination of the combined efforts of students, faculty, and administrative staff in reinforcing standards of academic excellence and innovation.Dr Marzouki also announced a pioneering initiative being launched for the first time at QU: the introduction of the Digital Badge. Graduates of this year's class will be the first to receive this electronically certified academic distinction, which enables them to document and showcase their achievements across various digital platforms.He explained that the Digital Badge represents a strategic step toward strengthening ongoing engagement between QU and programme graduates, empowering them to leverage their academic experiences in future professional environments. Media City Qatar and Qatar University hosted the second edition of the Euronews Academy Bootcamp, focused on digital and mobile journalism, which took place over the course of three days at St. Regis Marsa Arabia. The program offered training sessions designed to provide participants with practical skills and insights relevant to modern journalism. Students from Qatar University's College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mass Communication, participated in a series of interactive workshops over the first two days. Sessions covered digital storytelling techniques, mobile reporting and editing, and strategies for using social media platforms to engage audiences. The final day brought together instructors and representatives from Qatar University, Media City Qatar, and Euronews for a dedicated session, allowing participants to consolidate their learning in a collaborative environment. Director of Strategy and Excellence at Media City Qatar, Tevfik Ergun affirmed Media City Qatar's commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the media sector. Qatar University (QU) announced that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), during its 43rd session held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, has officially approved the inclusion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of QU in the organisation's list of commemorative events for 2026-2027.The university said, in a statement, the decision follows a proposal submitted by the State of Qatar, represented by QU and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and supported by several national commissions of member states.The approval recognises QU's pioneering role since its establishment in 1977 in advancing higher education and research, its sustained contributions to community service and national development, and its commitment to strengthening Qatar's academic and scientific presence regionally and internationally, in alignment with Unesco's objectives in education, science, and culture.This decision also represents international recognition of QU's standing as the nation's first and leading university, an academic and research hub that has, over five decades, prepared national talents, enhanced the higher education ecosystem in Qatar, and supported quality education, knowledge-based economic growth, research, innovation, and partnerships with distinguished international institutions.It further highlights QU's contributions to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.The decision reflects the State of Qatar's prioritisation of education as a cornerstone of comprehensive development and a key pillar in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as its active engagement within multilateral organisations, particularly Unesco.The Golden Jubilee program will feature various activities and events in which Unesco may participate during 2026 and 2027. Qatar University’s (QU) College of Business and Economics continues the Business Mastery Programme—Fall 2025, organised by the Learning Support Section in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurship. The program is designed to equip third- and fourth-year students with the practical skills in entrepreneurship and management necessary for a seamless transition from academic study to the professional environment, while enhancing their preparedness to meet the demands of the labour market through an integrated approach combining theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. For this academic year, the programme consists of four comprehensive workshops, three of which have been conducted so far. This year, the emphasis is on the development of skills in entrepreneurial thinking, entrepreneurial marketing, psychological resilience and adaptation in entrepreneurship, and innovation management. The interactive workshops are led by members of the Centre for Entrepreneurship: Maisoun Sewailem, Faten Ramadan, and Hamza al-Sioufy. Fatema Khalil Hasan, head of the Learning Support Section at the College of Business and Economics, emphasised the holistic educational value of the programme, currently in its third edition and enabling students to acquire core personal and professional skills.

Qatar University started Sunday accepting re-admission applications for former undergraduate students for the Spring 2026 semester, with the deadline set for Nov 5. Re-admission is available in 11 colleges, including Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business and Economics, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Medicine, and Dental Medicine. The university said the categories of students who are eligible to apply are those who withdrew or were absent for more than four consecutive or non-consecutive semesters without prior approval; admitted to the Foundation Program and have been away for more than two semesters; or did not complete the Foundation Programme within four regular semesters. The categories also include the students who were suspended for academic reasons after two unsuccessful attempts to pass required courses and those whose registration was terminated for academic reasons, such as low GPA or failure to meet graduation requirements. Applications must be submitted online via apply.qu.edu.qa with all required documents — including ID, passport (for non-Qataris), and a personal photo — before the deadline. Supporting certificates and achievements may also be uploaded electronically. Yet, the university said applicants can submit their documents in person during working days at the Student Affairs Building. Qatar University stressed that admission is competitive and depends on each college's capacity and additional criteria. Accepted students will meet academic advisers for orientation and course planning ahead of registration.

Dreama Orphan Care Centre and Qatar University (QU), with the support of ExxonMobil Qatar, have launched a joint awareness campaign " To Thrive" to highlight the importance of empowering and integrating orphans into society. The aim is to spread awareness messages with a positive impact and mainly targets university students, administrative and teaching staff, and all members of society. QU students will carry out the campaign's activities, reflecting confidence in the abilities and creativity of young people to contribute to societal causes. Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed al-Thani, executive director of Dreama, said: "The campaign's motto stems from our belief that every individual is a flower capable of thriving if they have a supportive environment. Qatar University (QU) participated in the 19th QatarEnergy LNG Engineering Conference, which featured leading experts, professionals, and decision-makers from around the world.The QU pavilion presented a wide range of research projects and technological innovations that highlight QU’s efforts in supporting sustainable energy and digital transformation. Among the innovations was a hybrid energy harvesting system combining piezoelectric and electromagnetic technologies for remote sensing in oil and gas pipelines and nondestructive testing solutions.The system using ultrasonic waves assesses sustainable construction materials such as recycled fibre-reinforced concrete and 3D printing technologies.QU revealed several technical solutions that support sustainability and industrial safety. These included the innovative ClearExhaust device, capable of reducing diesel engine emissions by up to 30%; a smart vibration isolation system using hybrid magnetic materials; the automated Raqeeb platform for heat stress monitoring; and a high-efficiency car radiator designed for hot climates. In the field of smart and robotic technologies, QU presented advanced innovations that improve performance in industrial and environmental sectors. Highlights included HazBot, a robot for inspections in hazardous environments; robotic systems for inspecting gas tanks and complex pipelines; the MasterPi system for developing automation solutions; and a spherical photovoltaic solar system designed to enhance solar energy efficiency.Faculty members and students also participated in scientific sessions and presentations, in addition to showcasing research posters addressing themes such as innovation, technology, sustainability, integrity, operational reliability and safety, and best practices in operational excellence.

Qatar University (QU)’s Young Scientists Centre (YSC) has concluded the seventh edition of its 2025 Summer Research Training Programme, which served as an exceptional platform for students to pursue academic and research excellence.The closing ceremony featured a research poster exhibition showcasing the innovative projects and creative achievements developed by participating students.This year’s programme provided the students opportunities to enhance research skills and engage in innovative projects across several vital fields, including energy and environment, health and biomedical sciences, information and communication technology, and social and human sciences.“Over the years, the programme has proven its effectiveness in empowering students to develop their research capabilities and progress from inquiry to scientific discovery,” said associate vice-president (Research and Graduate Studies) Dr Mohamed Alsafran.He noted that this year saw outstanding participation, with 245 students taking part in 34 research projects across various disciplines.Dr Alsafran emphasised that the programme’s success reflects the productive collaboration among the university’s research centres and colleges, which have actively contributed to strengthening the QU’s multidisciplinary research platform, supporting excellence and innovation, and reinforcing the university’s commitment to building national capacity and achieving sustainable development.Dr Zubair Ahmad, the head of Module Development and Publication at the YSC, highlighted that the Summer Research Training Programme serves as a cornerstone in fostering research capabilities among youth.He described it as a strategic platform that transforms students into researchers and innovators capable of addressing contemporary challenges.Dr Ahmad added that the programme provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in real scientific research designed to enhance their technical and research skills through collaborative work with experts and mentors.He further said that the programme focuses on capacity building, enabling students to acquire the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to contribute effectively to the knowledge-based economy envisioned in Qatar National Vision 2030.Among the winning projects were:* “The Effect of Catalyst Support Acidity and Basicity on CO₂ Conversion in the RWGS Reaction” in the Energy and Environment category, supervised by Dr Anand Kumar and Dr Parisa Ebrahimi from the College of Engineering.* “Years of Change: How University Life Shapes Students’ Dietary Habits and Physical Activity” in the Health and Biomedical Sciences category, led by Dr Rima Tayyem from the College of Health Sciences.* “A Smart Warning System for Distracted Motorcycle Riders Using Machine Learning Techniques” in the Information Technology category, supervised by Dr Qainat Hussain from the College of Engineering.* “Digital Transformation and AI Integration: Exploring Perceived Educational Benefits in Non-STEM Education” in the Social and Human Sciences category, supervised by Dr Julie Bhadra and Somaya Muneer from the YSC.These achievements reflected not only the quality of academic supervision but also the students’ ability to translate knowledge into pioneering research outcomes with tangible societal impact.The Summer Research Training Programme is one of the QU’s strategic initiatives, reflecting its commitment to developing students’ scientific capabilities and empowering them to become future research leaders capable of innovation and contributing to societal advancement.

His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, the Chairman of Qatar University's Board of Regents, chaired the first meeting of QU's Board of Regents for the academic year 2025-2026, held at the Amiri Diwan Monday.At the beginning of the meeting, the Board of Regents reviewed the accomplished decisions and recommendations taken in the third meeting for the academic year 2024-2025. Then, it discussed the topics listed on the agenda and took appropriate decisions thereon.The board also approved the proposal of QU's strategic positioning through 2050 and ratified the draft graduate programmes' academic plan, which include approving the introduction of a professional PhD programme in clinical science.

The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs honoured the scholars and intellectuals who took part in the first Annual World Conference on the Qur’an and Human Knowledge: Towards Sound Human Understanding, and the inaugural Ummah Writers’ Forum, organised by Awqaf in collaboration with Qatar University (QU).The honorees were recognised by HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem al-Thani, with a host of academics and researchers from QU and the Ibn Khaldun Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, in attendance, in appreciation of their scholarly and intellectual contributions.The purpose of this initiative is to reinstate the centrality of the Holy Qur’an in shaping human and social knowledge, and to foster the integration between the Sharia and human sciences, thereby contributing to a civilisational and intellectual renaissance for the Islamic nation, said Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem al-Thani.He also announced the launch of the second edition of the conference and the forum, scheduled to convene in October 2026, commending the participants and researchers who enriched the sessions with their valuable papers and interventions.Director of the Ibn Khaldun Center at Qatar University, Dr Badran bin Lahsan, stated that the two events embodied the significance of reinstating the Holy Qur’an’s pivotal role in the production of human and social knowledge.He noted that the Holy Qur’an provides a holistic vision of existence and offers a set of values and standards that help guide thought and contribute to building humans and societies.The conference helped open a balanced intellectual dialogue between the Sharia sciences and the modern human and social sciences, underscoring the importance of sustained collaboration among academic and intellectual institutions, in addition to the exchange of expertise among researchers from a variety of disciplines, to ensure institutional continuity and to enrich the research and intellectual experience within Islamic communities, he said. Representing the guests at the forum, Dr Abdel Majid al-Najjar emphasised that the Ummah Writers series, which spanned four decades in publication, served as a pioneering reformist school that has contributed to consolidating the civilisational identity of the Islamic nation and safeguarding the Islamic personality in its doctrinal, intellectual, and behavioural dimensions.He further underscored the importance of constant renewal within the series to keep pace with contemporary developments and challenges, enabling the formation of a modern Muslim personality capable of addressing intellectual and social issues and benefiting from civilisational advancements without compromising deep-rooted Islamic values.

The University Rapid Chess Championship, organised by the Qatar University Sports Federation in collaboration with the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), concluded at the Community College gymnasium.Mahjoub Mohammed of Doha University of Science and Technology claimed first place in the men’s individual competition with nine points, ahead of teammate Muhannad Hussein Mohammed in second, while Qatar University’s Yousef al-Janahi finished third.In the women’s individual category, Qatar University’s Sana Nour Kartel emerged champion. Victoria Honordez of Doha University of Science and Technology secured second place, with her colleague Ghalia al-Naimi completing the podium.Doha University of Science and Technology also dominated the team events, taking first place in both the men’s and women’s team championships. Qatar University (QU)’s Ibn Khaldon for Humanities and Social Studies Centre, in co-operation with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, has inaugurated the ‘1st Annual Conference on the Qur’an and Human Knowledge’, along with the ‘1st Forum of Ummah Writers’.The opening was attended by HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem; Dr Omar al-Ansari, president of QU; several vice-presidents; and senior officials from various ministries; as well as academic and governmental sectors.Dr al-Ansari highlighted that the conference aligns with QU’s strategic plan and research priorities, which include emphasising research in the humanities and social sciences to foster scholarly focus on cognitive, human, social, and cultural issues, thereby promoting ethical, value-based development and sustainable growth in our societies.
