Qatar Chamber is inviting its members to attend the General Assembly Meeting on May 11, 2026, a press statement announced Monday. The AGM will be presided over by Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani. According to the agenda, the AGM will review the board of directors’ report on activities for the year ending December 31, 2025; the auditor’s report and final accounts; approve the 2026 budget; discharge the board; and appoint a new auditor for 2026. The chamber stated that if a quorum is not met at the first meeting, a second meeting will be held on June 4, 2026. The second meeting will be valid regardless of the number of attendees. The chamber also stated that only members who have settled their subscription fees up to the date of the first meeting on May 11, 2026, are eligible to attend. Registration will open two hours before the meeting. It clarified that individual establishments must be represented either by the owner personally or by an authorised representative whose name is registered in the commercial register.As for companies, the meeting must be attended by one of the authorised signatories on behalf of the company. 

Qatar University’s CubeSat programme, after the launch of its first nanosatellite QUbeSat1 in January, is transitioning into a more advanced phase centred on scientific research and satellite capability development. Dr Tamer Khattab, professor of Electrical Engineering and Project Lead, said that: “The project is moving toward a new phase that combines practical education with advanced scientific research,” adding that “future satellites will be more complex, with defined scientific objectives including hyperspectral imaging and experiments on plant growth in microgravity.” He further stressed that “The upcoming satellites will be larger, up to six units, with advanced sensors to enable precise scientific experiments, including monitoring space debris using machine learning,” signaling a clear shift from a purely educational model to a research-driven satellite programme. The initial satellite served primarily as a training platform, but the project is now expanding into targeted scientific applications. He noted: “The first CubeSat launch was purely educational, but upcoming satellites will have specific scientific missions such as environmental monitoring and plant experiments in space.” Dr Khalid Abualsaud, Lecturer of Computer Engineering at Qatar University, explained: “We developed an integrated system to monitor and analyse waste through image capture and data transmission to the ground station,” adding that “this system will be integrated into the second satellite with advanced sensors to enhance environmental applications.” These developments underline the project’s growing emphasis on data-driven research and environmental monitoring from space. Noura Hossam Saqr, Electrical Engineering Graduate from QU, highlighted operational parameters: “The satellite can communicate with the ground station four times daily for 8 to 10 minutes each pass,” noting that “the station receives images and data that are processed and analysed using advanced systems.” Mohamed Elsayed, teaching assistant in Electrical Engineering, said: “The project started as a simple idea to transfer knowledge in satellite design and launch,” adding that “students participated in designing and installing the ground station, gaining integrated practical experience.” This integration of satellite and ground systems ensures continuous data flow and strengthens the project’s applied research dimension. From a broader project perspective, the initiative is designed to build long-term scientific and technical capacity. Dr Abdelmagid Hammuda, professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Project Team Member, said that: “The project is not just a launch, but an integrated effort to build a solid scientific culture in space engineering,” stressing that “the real success lies in building a qualified team capable of developing new satellites in shorter timeframes.” The technical backbone of the satellites is also evolving. Dr Ahmed Massoud, associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies, noted: “Solar energy systems are critical to ensure continuous satellite operation and data transmission in space conditions,” highlighting the importance of reliable power systems for sustained mission performance. Dr Nizar Zorba, professor of Electrical Engineering, pointed out that : “The launch is not the end of the project, but the beginning of a new phase requiring continuous evaluation to improve performance and maximise scientific and economic value,” adding that “the next phase will focus on developing new technologies and building an advanced communication system integrating space and ground components.”

The third edition of Electronic Qatar Stars League (E-QSL, April 20-22, 2026) kicked off at Mall of Qatar, with 12 teams competing – all clubs from 2025-2026 season Doha Bank Stars League. The first day of competition was for Group A matches and the results were as follows: Group B matches, featuring Al Sadd, Al Sailiya, Al Wakrah, Al Shahania, Umm Salal and Al Ahli, will be played on Tuesday, April 21. The final rounds will be held on the third day, with the tournament being played in a one-x-one format. The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, followed by semifinals and final. Competing teams and players will compete for the title and a place in the qualifiers for 2026 Esports World Cup.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met Monday at the Amiri Diwan with Jordanian Crown Prince Al- Hussein bin Abdullah II. At the outset of the meeting, HH the Amir welcomed the crown prince, affirming the depth of the fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries.  The crown prince conveyed to HH the Amir the greetings of King Abdullah II ibn al-Hussein along with his wishes of continued good health and happiness to His Highness, and further progress and prosperity to the Qatari people.  Crown Prince Al-Hussein underscored the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable de-escalation that would restore stability in the region.  He also expressed Jordan's full support for, and solidarity with Qatar and other countries in the region in safeguarding their security and sovereignty, reiterating his country's condemnation of the attacks targeting Qatar. In turn, HH the Amir entrusted the crown prince to convey his greetings to the Jordanian king, wishing him continued good health and well-being, and the brotherly people of Jordan continued growth and prosperity.  HH the Amir also expressed Qatar's appreciation for Jordan's supportive stance, emphasising the importance of continued coordination and consultation on regional developments in a manner that contributes to de-escalation and strengthens the foundations of security and stability in the region.  During the meeting, both sides highlighted the strong fraternal ties between the two countries and discussed ways to further enhance and develop them. They also exchanged views on key regional and international developments.  The crown prince departed Doha following a working visit to the country. He was seen off upon departure at Doha International Airport by His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and Jordanian ambassador Zaid Mufleh al-Lozi. Earlier upon his arrival the crown prince was welcomed by both the interior minister and the ambassador.

The Qatar Football Association Disciplinary Committee has reshaped the Qatar Stars League title race, ruling in favour of Al Shamal after confirming a player eligibility violation by Qatar SC in their April 13 clash. In its official decision, issued after reviewing Al Shamal’s protest, the committee stated: “The protest submitted by Al Shamal Club is accepted in form and substance.” It added: “Qatar Club lost the match with a score of 3-0, and a financial penalty of (10,000) Qatari riyals only.” The ruling overturns the original 2-0 result and instead awards Al Shamal a 3-0 victory, significantly altering the standings at the top of the QSL. The case centred on a second-half substitution made by Qatar SC after they were reduced to ten men just before half-time following the dismissal of Ali Saoudi for a dangerous challenge on Baghdad Bounedjah. Despite the red card involving a foreign player, Qatar SC later introduced Argentine defender Franco Russo in place of Ahmed a;=Rawi, a local player - a move deemed a direct violation of squad regulations. The committee cited Article 15 of the player status rules, which states that if one of six foreign players is sent off, the team must continue with five foreign professionals and cannot replace a local player with another foreigner. It also referenced Article 61/1/b, noting: “The club shall be penalised as having lost if it commits in any match a violation of the participation system - B: Participation of foreign players.” Al Shamal lodged their protest within 24 hours of the match, arguing that the substitution involving a foreign player after the red card breached the competition rules. Before the decision, the defeat had left Al Shamal trailing leaders Al Sadd by five points, a gap that placed the title out of reach with one round remaining. The revised outcome restores three points to Al Shamal, bringing them back into direct contention and dramatically tightening the race. Defending champions Al Sadd, on 42 points, now lead Al Shamal by just two points. Attention now turns to the final round on April 27, where Al Shamal face Al Sadd in a decisive clash that will determine the QSL champion on the pitch. 

Team Qatar claimed a landmark result at the Michelin 12H Spa-Francorchamps, topping the 992-AM class and finishing second overall in the 992 category during the latest round of the 24H Series at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium Sunday. The result was delivered by drivers Abdullah al-Khelaifi, Ahmed al-Emadi and Faisal al-Yafei, who combined consistency and pace across the 12-hour endurance race to secure class victory and a podium finish overall. Team Qatar began the weekend strongly, qualifying second in the 992-AM class on Friday to position themselves early in the fight for top honours. Over the course of the race, the trio maintained a steady rhythm built on clean stints, strategic execution and reliable performance from their car, allowing them to convert their qualifying position into a class win. The team ultimately secured first place in the 992-AM category while also finishing second in the overall 992 standings, marking a double podium and a strong statement performance on the European endurance stage. The latest achievement reflects the continuous progress of motorsport in Qatar and highlights the team’s commitment to delivering outstanding results in international competitions, paving the way for further success in the upcoming rounds of the championship. 

The Academic Bridge Program (ABP) under Qatar Foundation has been excelling in supporting high school students from Qatar and the region to get admissions in prestigious universities across the globe with record number of placements in the recent years. “As for the statistics, I would say in the last academic year, about 97% of our students have got admission in various universities globally. Out of these students, 65% got admitted within the Education City in Qatar, which is a high number, considering that Qatar Foundation universities are top universities globally,” Dr Saheim K al-Temimi, director of ABP told Gulf Times.“We have tie up with various other universities around the world especially in the US and the UK. Many of our students get admissions in these universities which proves that the programme is highly successful,” he continued. ABP, established in 2001, is a premier pre-university programme meant for high school students from Qatar and other countries in the region to help them for a smooth transition from school to university education. So far, the institute has graduated over 4,000 students and 90% of them have gone on to study in various universities around the world.**media[436920]**Dr al-Temimi said that ABP has been scoring a steady success with the number of successful students going up every year. “Now that we have got 97%. Our target is that all our graduates, I mean 100% of students to get the opportunities. Two years back, we achieved 96%. Last year, we achieved 97%, and it shows the success and quality of the programme,“ explained Dr al-Temimi. The director said that ABP aims to provide comprehensive academic coverage to its students to enable them with great opportunities. “So, we have made the admission criteria as 70% or what is equivalent of it in high school, in addition to a score of 4.5 and above of IELTS proficiency or what is equivalent to IELTS, such as Duolingo and TOEFL tests. Through this programme, we are actually playing a very important role to complement and to complete the educational ecosystem within Qatar,” noted the official. “We are enablers, and supporters for students. We aim to create top calibre students in the country and the region and equip them with all the skills to go to the top universities. We work very closely with the top-rated universities nationally and internationally,” he highlighted. As for the future plans of the centre, the director said that ABP has recently introduced three academic tracks. He stated: “Instead of having like one programme, now we have started three specialised, educational tracks. They are STEM track, social sciences track and humanities and visual arts track. We are expanding our partnerships and in the recent years we have signed many educational agreements with the well-recognised universities.” “We also offer credit transfer. We have signed a special academic collaboration with some universities of what we call ‘One plus Three’. Through this agreement, students can complete the ABP programme here and which will be considered as one year at the academic branch, credit year. Then, they can complete the whole university programme in another three years,” revealed the director. “We have many partnerships to offer for the students. To enable them to start the university life at the earliest. We can say with pride and confidence that ABP is providing great guidance for high school students in the country and beyond for higher education. Therefore, we are proud that the centre has become a great beacon of education excellence in the country,” he added. 

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) recently hosted the spring edition of its Medical Career Seminar series, during which medical professionals shared their career experiences with foundation and pre-medical students. The series featured presentations by Dr Nayef Mazloum, associate professor of microbiology and immunology and associate dean for student research at WCM-Q, along with four distinguished WCM-Q alumni. Each seminar offered insights into the speaker’s career path and specialty, followed by a Q&A session. The series opened with WCM-Q alumna Dr Ameneh Amini, a paediatric emergency physician at Sidra Medicine, who shared details of her training and medical career. Dr Amini is the first female physician from Qatar to complete paediatric emergency medicine training in North America and the first WCM-Q alumna to specialise in this field. The next seminar featured Dr Mazloum, who reflected on his personal and professional journey, having joined WCM-Q in January 2011 from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. During his session, he highlighted his research on molecular pathways in metabolic disorders, including obesity, diabetes and age-related diseases. His lab employs a combination of in vitro cellular models, mouse models and human data to uncover novel mechanisms that modulate metabolism. Alumna guest speaker Dr Noor al-Nassr (Class of 2024), a recent WCM-Q graduate and current dermatology resident at Hamad Medical Corporation, shared insights into her transition from medical school to residency. In her session, she also discussed her involvement in clinical research focusing on inflammatory skin diseases and severe cutaneous adverse reactions. Alumnus Dr Mohammed al-Hijji (Class of 2011), a senior consultant in interventional and structural cardiology at the Heart Hospital, part of Hamad Medical Corporation, and an assistant professor at WCM-Q, reflected on his training and career in cardiology. In his session, he discussed his clinical work and research interests in developing advanced valvular solutions to improve longevity and performance. Fellow alumnus, Dr Abdulrahman al-Abdulmalek (Class of 2018), a hematology fellow at McGill University in Montreal, spoke about his clinical training and focus on hematologic malignancies, bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies. Dr al-Abdulmalek is especially interested in bridging translational research with clinical care to improve outcomes in high-risk and relapsed hematologic cancers. Dr Marco Ameduri, associate professor of physics and senior associate dean for pre-medical education and Education City collaborative curricular affairs, said: “I sincerely thank all our expert speakers for taking the time to share their experiences and professional journeys with our students. Hearing firsthand from our alumni about the wide range of training and specialization opportunities available both in Qatar and abroad is truly invaluable.” Dr Rachid Bendriss, associate dean for foundation, student outreach and educational development programs, added: “Our Medical Career Seminar series reflects our commitment to giving students early exposure to the wide variety of career possibilities in medicine. By engaging directly with practicing medical professionals, students can hear diverse experiences, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into potential training and career paths.” 

The Qatar Stock Exchange Sunday opened the week on a marginally higher note on the back of buying support, especially from domestic institutions.The consumer goods and banking counters witnessed higher than average demand as the 20-stock Qatar Index settled 0.03% higher at 10,718.28 points, recovering from an intraday low of 10,670 points.The Arab individuals were seen increasingly net buyers in the main market, whose year-to-date losses truncated to 0.41%.The Gulf institutions’ weakened net selling had its marginal impact on the main bourse, whose capitalisation added QR0.37bn or 0.06% to QR638.92bn mainly owing to microcap segments.The local retail investors continued to be net buyers but with lesser intensity in the main market, whose trade turnover and volumes were on the decline.The foreign funds were net profit takers in the main bourse, which saw as many as 9,338 exchange traded funds (sponsored by AlRayan Bank and Doha Bank) valued at QR0.07mn trade across 10 deals.The foreign individuals turned bearish in the main market, which saw no trading of sovereign bonds and sukuks.The Islamic index was seen treading a flat path vis-à-vis marginal gains in the other indices of the main bourse, which saw no trading of treasury bills.The Total Return Index was up 0.03% and the All Share Index by 0.03% in the main bourse.The consumer goods and services sector index rose 0.39%, banks and financial services (0.28%) and transport (0.01%); while telecom declined 1.43%, insurance (0.25%), industrials (0.2%) and real estate (0.06%).As many as 25 declined, while 23 gained and six were unchanged in the main market.Major movers in the main market included Widam Food, Estithmar Holding, Mannai Corporation, Dlala, Meeza, Qatar Oman Investment, Medicare Group and Ezdan.Nevertheless, Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance, Beema, Qatar Islamic Insurance, Ooredoo, Qatar German Medical Devices, Qamco and Vodafone Qatar were among the gainers in the main bourse.In the venture market, Techno Q saw its shares appreciate in value.The domestic funds’ net buying increased substantially to QR12.63mn against QR6.5mn the previous trading day.The Arab individuals investors’ net buying expanded perceptibly to QR2.41mn compared to QR0.01mn on April 16.The Gulf institutions’ net selling decreased drastically to QR9.24mn against QR16.09mn last Thursday.The foreign funds’ net profit booking shrank significantly to QR6.34mn compared to QR12.1mn the previous trading day.The Gulf retail investors’ net selling weakened marginally to QR0.49mn against QR0.87mn on April 16.However, the foreign individuals turned net sellers to the tune of QR1.96mn compared with net buyers of QR6.49mn last Thursday.The local retail investors’ net buying fell noticeably to QR3mn against QR16.12mn the previous trading day.The Arab funds had no major net exposure compared with net profit takers to the extent of QR0.06mn on April 16.The main market saw a 10% contraction in trade volumes to 161.19mn shares, 26% in value to QR414mn and 26% in deals to 24,737.In the venture market, a total of 0.8mn equities valued at QR1.84mn changed hands across 145 transactions. 

Qatar Chamber, in cooperation with the Young Entrepreneurs Club, recently held an online training course titled ‘In Times of Crisis: Key Legal Aspects Amid Economic Changes’, delivered by lawyer Abdullah al-Ajmi from Abdullah Al Ajmi Law Firm.Also attending the event was Mishaal al-Najem, head of Events and Activities at the Young Entrepreneurs Club.The course aimed to enhance legal awareness among entrepreneurs and business owners, equipping them with the knowledge to address legal challenges arising from economic changes, thereby supporting business sustainability and mitigating risks.The session covered several key topics, including analysing the legal implications of economic fluctuations, managing legal risks during crises, structuring contracts and obligations under exceptional circumstances, and exploring legal solutions to avoid commercial disputes.Fatima Issa al-Kuwari, head of the Training Department at Qatar Chamber, said the course reflects the chamber’s ongoing efforts to enhance legal awareness among its members. She noted that, amid rapid economic changes, legal awareness has become essential for ensuring business continuity and enabling entrepreneurs to make informed, flexible decisions.She added that the collaboration with the Young Entrepreneurs Club highlights the importance of partnerships in delivering specialised training initiatives that develop entrepreneurs’ capabilities and align with market needs.The course comes as part of a series of training programmes organised by Qatar Chamber to support the business environment and enhance companies’ readiness to address various challenges with efficiency and resilience. 

ICC Qatar recently concluded its high-level two-day webinar titled ‘Navigating the Geopolitical Crisis: Legal, Governance, ESG Compliance & Risk Priorities for Qatar’s Private Sector’. The webinar brought together more than 200 participants representing banks, law firms, embassies, real estate and construction companies, and consulting firms, as well as legal and governance experts, senior executives, board members, and risk professionals.  Sheikha Tamader al-Thani, secretary general of ICC Qatar, said: “We are pleased to convene this timely discussion as the region continues to experience significant geopolitical developments. These evolving dynamics present a range of challenges for the private sector, particularly in navigating legal complexities, regulatory expectations, ESG considerations, and operational risks.” She added: “The evolving geopolitical environment requires businesses to review contracts, legal exposure, and cross-border obligations, while ensuring strong compliance, governance, and risk management frameworks. In times of uncertainty, ESG responsibilities and business continuity planning become even more critical to maintaining stability and resilience.”  Discussions addressed the legal, regulatory, and operational challenges currently facing businesses in Qatar and the wider Gulf region. Throughout the event, Mashael al-Sulaiti, founder and chairperson of Mashael Al Sulaiti Law Firm, and Elena Athwal, founder and CEO of ICELIS Global, highlighted the critical need for businesses to review contractual clauses, particularly force majeure and material adverse change provisions, to understand their legal position and available remedies clearly.  They also stressed the importance of strengthening board oversight, ensuring compliance, and maintaining transparency in disclosure practices. “We gave businesses a clear framework for action, identifying the applicable laws, understanding the obligations that arise, and taking immediate steps to protect their position.  At the board level, this means moving from passive awareness to active oversight; risks must be identified, challenged, documented and managed within a disciplined governance framework,” stated al-Sulaiti.  The speakers emphasised the importance of proactive risk assessment, robust contractual review, ESG considerations, and strengthened internal governance frameworks to ensure resilience and compliance during periods of uncertainty.  They also provided insights into key disruptions affecting the business landscape, including global trade and supply chain challenges, heightened counterparty and sovereign risks, contractual uncertainties, and evolving regulatory expectations. “ESG during a crisis is not a reporting exercise. It is evidence preservation for legal remedies,” said Athwal. Furthermore, the speakers underscored the necessity of closely monitoring regulatory developments and maintaining open communication with supervisory authorities.  They also emphasised the importance of reassessing insurance coverage and addressing potential gaps, particularly in high-risk or conflict-affected jurisdictions.
