His Excellency Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed held talks here on Sunday with Mehmet Simsek, Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkiye, on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025, as the two countries explored ways to deepen their economic partnership.The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, with both sides reviewing key areas of mutual interest and identifying opportunities to broaden commercial links.Officials also exchanged views on issues featured on this year's forum agenda, which spotlights global economic stability, sustainable growth and geopolitical challenges.Relations between Qatar and Turkiye have grown steadily in recent years, particularly in finance, defence and trade. Sunday's meeting was described as part of a continued effort to strengthen the strategic economic ties that underpin the partnership between the two nations.  

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) CEO Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani held a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Salman al-Ghrairi during a visit, alongside his accompanying delegation, to Qatar. During the meeting, the two sides discussed co-operation efforts and exchange of experiences in the fields of trade and investment. The meeting also highlighted the investment opportunities and outstanding benefits offered by Qatar’s free zones to attract companies to invest and establish their businesses in Qatar. The meeting was attended by senior officials from QFZ and was followed by an introductory tour of the Business Innovation Park at Ras Bufontas Free Zone.

The Minister of Finance His Excellency Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari emphasised that Qatar’s LNG expansion strategy is helping to buffer against falling oil prices, ensuring stability in revenues and long-term resilience.He was speaking at the panel discussion titled ‘Global Trade Tensions: Economic Impact and Policy Responses in Mena’ held Saturday on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025.HE al-Kuwari noted that diversification has been central to Qatar’s 2030 national vision strategy since 2008, with growth increasingly coming from non-oil sectors, such as technology, manufacturing, logistics, and tourism. “Most of the growth in the economy is coming from the non-oil sector. For example, the first six months, GDP this year was 5.3% in growth from the non-oil GDP,” he said.HE al-Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s fiscal discipline, pointing to a 20-year framework that guides debt reduction, investment allocation, and reserve building. This approach has already reduced net debt from 58% in 2021 to 45%, earning Qatar an AA rating from all three major agencies — the highest in the region, he pointed out.The minister also stressed Qatar’s readiness to face global shocks, including recessions, thanks to fiscal buffers and disciplined policy. “Of course...Qatar has been very resilient. We’ve been resilient to many shocks,” emphasised HE al-Kuwari, who assured that the economy is ready in the event of a recession. 

The opening of the Doha Forum 2025 tomorrow will witness Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani speaking at the first panel discussion, titled 'Mediation in a Time of Fragmentation’.His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed will be joined by Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President, European Commission; Jose Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, Spain; and Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Türkiye at the session, which will be moderated by CNN’s Chief International Anchor.Themed ‘Justice in Action: Beyond Promises to Progress’, the 23rd Doha Forum will take place at Sheraton Grand, Doha from December 6-7 under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.Bringing together world leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the globe, organisers noted that the Forum will convene diverse voices to exchange perspectives and explore pathways toward a more just, balanced and sustainable world.Part of the programme also includes a Newsmaker Interview at 11.45am with Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Qatar Energy president and CEO His Excellency Saad Sherida al-Kaabi.Dr Majed al-Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will speak at a session on ‘Gulf – EU Relations in the Age of Strategic Isolation’, at 12pm, along with high-level participants from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Italy.A session, titled ‘Global Trade Tensions: Economic Impact and Policy Responses in MENA;’ will see Qatar’s Minister of Finance His Excellency Ali Ahmed al-Kuwari sharing his views on how countries in the MENA region navigate rising global trade and policy uncertainty.Qatar Museums chairperson Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani will also take part in a talk on ‘Humanity’s Next Chapter: Innovation and Impact from the Global South’, along with Gates Foundation chair Bill Gates, and Dangote Foundation president Aliko Dangote. Al Jazeera principal presenter Folly Bah Thibault will moderate this discussion at 4.30pm. 

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) held a two-day workshop on 'Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade and Protecting Gulf Industries'.The workshop was organised in co-operation with the Office of the Technical Secretariat for Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade at the GCC (Gulf Co-operation Council) General Secretariat.The workshop brought together employees from the General Authority of Customs responsible for applying duties related to combating harmful practices in international trade, in addition to staff from the ministry working in this field.It also aimed at enhancing awareness of the GCC Common Law of Anti-Dumping, Countervailing Measures and Safeguard, and to underline the role of customs authorities in enforcing measures adopted by ministerial committees.Sessions covered types of harmful trade practices, including dumping, subsidies, and surges in imports, alongside relevant national and regional legislation. It also introduced the GCC Common Law, the associated WTO (World Trade Organisation) agreements, and the Office of the Technical Secretariat at the GCC General Secretariat. It also discussed the economic impacts of such practices and the results achieved under the relevant law.The workshop further outlined procedures for filing complaints, conducting investigations, and applying corrective measures, while highlighting the role of customs administrations across GCC member states in addressing such practices.The workshop concluded with an open discussion, during which customs officials exchanged views and proposed solutions to strengthen duties against harmful trade practices. 

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has held an introductory workshop on mechanisms to combat harmful practices in international trade and their role in safeguarding Gulf industries.The two-day event was organised in co-operation with the GCC General Secretariat's technical bureau for anti-dumping duties.The workshop brought together specialists from the General Authority of Customs responsible for implementing anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard duties, along with ministry officials working in related fields.The programme aimed to raise awareness of the Common GCC Law on Anti-Dumping, Countervailing and Safeguard Measures, and to highlight the role of customs authorities in enforcing measures issued by the relevant ministerial committees, thereby helping protect regional industries from unfair trade practices.Participants were introduced to the types of harmful practices in international trade such as dumping, subsidies and surges in imports — and were briefed on the related local and regional legislations, including the Common GCC Law and relevant World Trade Organisation agreements. The workshop also outlined the role of the GCC's technical secretariat burrea in combating harmful practices and supporting Gulf industries.Discussions covered the economic impact of harmful trade practices, key outcomes achieved through the implementation of the anti-dumping law, and detailed procedures for filing complaints, conducting investigations and applying measures. The strategic role of customs authorities across GCC states in addressing such practices was also emphasised.The workshop concluded with a discussion session during which customs officials raised questions about the challenges related to implementing anti-dumping duties, while organisers presented proposed solutions and recommendations. 

The Minister of State for Energy Affairs His Excellency Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi held a meeting Monday with Aukje de Vries, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Discussions during the meeting dealt with energy relations and co-operation between Qatar and Holland and means to enhance them. 

Indicating robust trade and growth in the maritime sector, Qatar reported strong year-on-year expansion in cargo and container movements through Mesaieed, Doha and Al Ruwais ports in November 2025, according to the official data.The general and bulk cargo handled through the three ports amounted to 159,480 freight tonnes in November 2025, which soared 60.51% year-on-year but fell 26.33% month-on-month, according to figures released by Mwani Qatar.Hamad Port, whose multi-use terminal is designed to serve the supply chains for the RORO, grains and livestock, saw it successfully handle the heaviest cargo to-date (on November 1) as it saw discharging of a gas turbine weighing 316 tonnes from the vessel AAL Melbourne.The general and bulk cargo amounted to a cumulative 1.72mn freight tonnes in the first 11 months of this year.The container and cargo trends through the ports reflect the positive outlook for the country's non-oil private sector.The container movement through three ports amounted to 117,941 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), growing 8.22% on an annualised basis but was down 0.89% on a monthly basis in the review period.Hamad Port is the largest eco-friendly project in the region and internationally recognised as one of the largest green ports in the world.The three ports together handled as many as 1.35mn TEUs in January-November 2025.The container terminals have been designed to address the increasing trade volume, enhancing ease of doing business as well as supporting the achievement of economic diversification, which is one of the most important goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.As many as 272 ships arrived in three ports, which reported 14.29% and 11.02% year-on-year and month-on-month respectively in November 2025.Hamad Port's strategic geographical location offers opportunities to create cargo movement towards the upper Gulf, supporting countries such as Kuwait and Iraq and south towards Oman.As many as 2,793 vessel calls were reported through the three ports in the first 11 months of this year.The three ports handled 8,475 RORO in November 2025, which registered 62.27% and 11.4% plunge year-on-year and month-on-month respectively.Qatar's automobile sector has been witnessing stronger sales, notably in heavy equipment, private motorcycles and private vehicles, according to the data of the National Planning Council.The three ports handled as many as 109,307 RORO units in January-November this year.The three ports were seen handling 50,373 livestock heads this November, which surged 81.23% and 555.73% on yearly and monthly basis respectively in the review period.The three ports together handled as many as 461,923 livestock heads during January-November 2025.The building materials traffic through the three ports stood at 9,846 tonnes in November 2025, which plunged 29.79% and 13.34% year-on-year and month-on-month respectively.A cumulative 509,277 tonnes of building materials were handled during the first 11 months of 2025.In line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, Mwani Qatar continues to implement its ambitious strategy to enhance the maritime sector's contribution to diversifying the national economy and strengthening the county's position as a vibrant regional trade hub. 

The Minister of Commerce and Industry His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal al-Thani held a meeting Monday with Aukje de Vries, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, who is currently visiting Qatar.During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to deepen co-operation between Qatar and the Netherlands in the trade, investment and industrial sectors, as well as ways to further develop bilateral ties. Discussions also highlighted Qatar’s successful economic policies supporting the private sector, in addition to the country’s pro-investment legislation, incentives and expanding opportunities offered to attract investors and business leaders to the Qatari market. 

Her Excellency Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad met Monday with the visiting Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, Okie De Vries. Discussions during the meeting dealt with co-operation between the countries and ways to support and strengthen them, particularly in the areas of international development, humanitarian projects, and foreign trade. Both sides affirmed their commitment to continuing co-ordination and expanding areas of partnership in the coming period.  

The Investment and Trade Court has launched a specialized training program for law firms, aims to familiarize lawyers with the court's functions, as well as commercial and investment litigation procedures. The program also includes training on the electronic "Taqadi' system and a review of the latest technological updates that contribute to facilitating judicial services and enhancing the quality of judicial performance.The training program features a series of practical sessions and visual presentations delivered by court staff, enabling participants to gain hands-on insight into daily procedures within the judicial work environment, while enhancing their understanding of digital systems and procedural rules followed in the course of litigation.The training program comes as part of the Investment and Trade Court's efforts to enhance cooperation with law firms and transfer practical knowledge to legal practitioners. This contributes to developing performance and raising professional efficiency, in line with the Supreme Judicial Council's direction towards building an advanced judicial system based on quality and professionalism.Participants expressed their appreciation for the court's efforts in organizing this high-quality program, stressing that such initiatives contribute to the development of legal practices and reflect the court's leadership in the digital transformation of judicial services.Managing Partner and Lawyer Sultan Al-Abdullah of Sultan Al-Abdullah & Partners praised the efforts of the Investment and Trade Court in organizing this program and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate. He emphasized the importance of considering the proposals put forward for adoption within the development plans, given their direct impact on supporting the digital justice system and improving the quality of services provided through the litigation platform.
