The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has concluded its inspection campaigns on limousine companies and companies providing passenger transportation services via electronic applications.In its press release, the MOT said that the Q1 of 2026 campaigns were carried out in collaboration with relevant Ministry of Interior departments.The inspection campaigns detected 32 violations of the Law No. 8 of 2019 Regulating Road Transport and its Implementing Regulations issued by the Minister of Transport's Decision No. 13 of 2024.The new campaigns covered all areas across Qatar, with particular focus on business, service, and vital areas; something that reflects an expanding crackdown coverage and greater attention to crowded and high-business locations.With such campaigns, the MOT continues its law enforcement effort on the violating companies. It also urges all companies to follow the laws in place and obtain the necessary licenses to be able to do the business legally and avoid accountability.The MOT pays great attention to ensuring that passenger transportation companies follow all applicable laws and meet all safety requirements, while providing the highest quality of service.

Qatar University (QU), through its Social and Economic Survey Research Institute, is conducting a nationwide study titled 'Baseline Study to Estimate Food Loss and Waste in Qatar 2025' in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality. The study supports national efforts to improve food system efficiency while strengthening sustainability and food security nationwide.The study aims to measure the scale of food loss and waste across the various stages of the food supply chain in the country, beginning with production and processing and extending through distribution and consumption. The project will provide accurate scientific data by strengthening institutional collaboration among key national stakeholders, particularly QU and the Ministry of Municipality.This collaboration supports unified efforts, enhances co-ordination among institutions, and assists policymakers in developing strategies and programs to reduce food loss and waste while improving resource efficiency. Work on the project began on November 17, 2024 and is expected to continue until September 2026.The study is being implemented through a comprehensive research methodology that relies on collecting and analysing data from multiple sources to develop a reliable knowledge base to support strategic planning for food security and sustainability in Qatar.In this context, Dr Noora al-Mannai, director of the SESRI, emphasised the importance of the study, stating, “This study represents one of the key national research initiatives aligned with QU’s research priorities, particularly in the areas of sustainability, environmental protection, and food security." It also reflects the importance of collaboration among national institutions in generating knowledge and exchanging research expertise to support evidence-based policymaking.The project gains additional value through partnerships with relevant international organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and the United Nations Environment Programme, which enhance the quality of the research outputs and connect them to global efforts aimed at reducing food loss and waste and advancing sustainable development.”Dr Elmogiera Elawad, section head of Field Operations at SESRI, noted that the study adopts a comprehensive field-based methodology covering the entire food supply chain. This includes food production at farms, marketing and retail stages, food services in restaurants, hotels, and hospitals, and ultimately household consumption. This comprehensive coverage aims to provide an accurate assessment of food loss and waste at different stages through quantitative measurement, while also examining individuals’ attitudes, behaviours, and practices related to food waste and agricultural loss. The study will contribute to building a reliable scientific database that supports the development of effective interventions and policies to address this issue. 

The 2025-2026 winter camping season has been described as "largely successful," with high turnout of citizens and residents supported by well-organized camps and comprehensive services. Speaking to Qatar News Agency, Chair of the Winter Camping Committee at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Hamad Salem al-Nuaimi, highlighted the key achievements of this year’s season, including stronger adherence to environmental regulations, improved organizational infrastructure for campsites, and heightened awareness among campers about protecting the natural environment.He also outlined the main challenges, such as the rising number of campers placing pressure on sites and services, and some non-compliant practices at the start of the season. These were addressed through intensified inspection campaigns and the use of modern monitoring technologies to ensure compliance. Al-Nuaimi noted that the Winter Camping Committee implemented a range of measures to safeguard both the environment and camper safety. These included precise campsite allocations, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, provision and regular collection of waste containers, and strict regulations on vehicle use in desert and natural areas.He pointed out a marked improvement in compliance compared with previous seasons, attributing it to successful awareness campaigns. At the same time, he emphasized that some areas still require further organization and monitoring, with solutions under study for future seasons. Al-Nuaimi said key lessons from this season include early planning, greater reliance on digital permit systems, and strengthened partnerships with relevant authorities. The ministry is continuing to enhance oversight mechanisms and awareness programs to ensure the sustainability of Qatar's natural environment.He concluded by stressing that these combined efforts help foster a culture of environmental responsibility, urging all campers to follow regulations and contribute to the protection of Qatar's terrestrial environment as a shared responsibility. 

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, launched 14 new study circles for teaching Quran recitation at several Quran learning centers across the country, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote the teaching of the Holy Quran and spread a culture of care for it.In a statement, the ministry said the effort was part of its strategic plans to expand Quranic programs and provide opportunities for all segments of society to join recitation and tajweed classes based on a sound scientific methodology, under the supervision of qualified instructors.It noted that the new circles were distributed across many Quran centers located in mosques in various areas, including Ibn Atiyah Center in Abal Heeran, Al Sibtain Center and Usaid bin Hudair Center in Rawdat Al Hamama, Abu Jaafar Center in Al Thumama, Imam Khallad Center in South Al Duhail, Saad bin Zaid Center, Ubadah bin Al-Samit Center, and Mohammed Nasser Al Jafali Al Nuaimi Center in Leabaib, Sufyan Al Thawri Center in Al Ghanim Al Jadeed, Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanem Center in Al Wajba, Suhaib Al Rumi Center and Abdullah bin Khabbab Center in Al Wakra, Amr bin Al Aas Center in Al Themaid, and Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah Center in Rawdat Al Jahhanniya.The Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance stated that the circles are held four days a week, from Sunday to Wednesday, between Maghrib and Isha prayers, providing flexibility for enrollment and encouraging consistent participation.The department said that registration was available directly at the centers during session times, inviting interested individuals to enroll or contact 16577 for more information.The ministry affirmed that this initiative was part of a comprehensive vision aimed at strengthening the role of the Holy Quran in individuals' and society's lives, promoting Islamic values, and building a generation proficient in reciting the Quran. It also noted that efforts will continue to expand the number of circles and Quran centers across the country to meet the growing demand for learning the Quran.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that the General Directorate of Passports' Search and Follow-up Department enabled a service to pay financial claims electronically via the MoI's website and the Metrash App.In a post on its X account, the Ministry said Saturday that the service allows users to pay fees and fines, as well as travel ticket costs with ease.It added that this can be done by going onto the "Security" window, clicking on "Financial Claims", choosing between the "Personal" and "Establishment" options, selecting the due payment (fee, fine, ticket), clicking on "Records", and paying the required amount directly.In a separate post, the MoI indicated the requirements and conditions for obtaining a driving licence in accordance with the procedures approved by the General Directorate of Traffic.The ministry pointed out that the basic requirements include: Proof of Identity, Personal Photo, passing the Medical Examination, and presenting a valid Residence Permit for residents.A minimum age of 18 years old is required to obtain a light vehicle driving license and a minimum age of 21 years old to obtain other types of vehicle driving license, it added.The ministry highlighted the need to enroll in an accredited driving school and pass both the theoretical and practical tests.Upon passing the tests, the driving license can be printed via Metrash, the MoI website, and via Traffic Offices at Driving schools, the MoI said. 

The Ministry of Social Development and Family has unveiled a unified digital platform consolidating all its public services into a single mobile application, marking a significant step in the country's broader drive towards e-government.The app, now available on Apple and Google app stores, allows users to browse, apply for and track ministry services in real time, without visiting offices in person. Officials said the platform had been designed to the highest digital accessibility standards, with particular attention to ease of use for the elderly and people with disabilities.Speaking at a press conference in Doha Wednesday, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs Fahd Mohammed al-Khayarin said the launch demonstrated the ministry's commitment to accelerating digital transformation and adopting the latest technological solutions across government services.A key feature of the platform is a digital social security card, allowing beneficiaries to access and present their credentials through the app without requiring a physical card. The platform also incorporates an AI-powered assistant to handle user queries and guide applicants through its services.The ministry said the rollout would be phased, with around 24 core services in the areas of housing and social security available at launch. Coverage is set to expand throughout the year to include services related to associations, private institutions and family affairs, with full digitalisation the stated end goal.The platform also provides a complete record of previous applications, a direct channel for submitting complaints and suggestions, and real-time visibility into the status of pending requests — measures the ministry said would enhance transparency and reduce processing times.Ahmed Khalil Abdullah, Director of the Information Systems Department, described the launch as a pivotal step towards delivering an integrated, user-centred experience as Qatar presses ahead with its digital transformation agenda. 

The Ministry of Interior has warned against playing or circulating audio or video clips that mimic the National Emergency Alert System, including using such tones as mobile ringtones in public or private settings, citing risks of causing panic and disturbing public order.In a statement posted on its official account on X, the ministry stressed the importance of public responsibility and adherence to regulations, noting that misuse of emergency alert tones constitutes a legal offense subject to accountability. Authorities also urged the public to report violations by calling 999.  

The Ministry of Municipality affirmed its commitment to transforming waste into opportunities and building a more sustainable future, on the occasion of International Zero Waste Day, which falls on March 30th of each year, by promoting source segregation, advancing the circular economy, and achieving the goal of Qatar Zero Waste.The ministry affirmed in a post on X platform Monday that source segregation is the separation of waste inside the home from the very beginning into plastic, paper, metals, organic waste, and general waste, noting that a small step makes a big impact.The ministry explained that waste separation contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, limiting pollution, protecting the environment and natural resources, as well as reducing waste in landfills and enhancing the quality of life.In the context of its efforts, the ministry pointed to supporting recycling projects, conducting ongoing awareness campaigns, providing dedicated waste sorting bins, and improving waste management.The Ministry of Municipality called for the sorting of waste to begin, stressing the importance of community participation to achieve a cleaner environment and a better future. 

The Saudi Ministry of Defence announced Monday the interception and destruction of five drones.Spokesperson of the Saudi Ministry of Defence, Major General Staff Turki Al Maliki, stated that the five drones were intercepted and destroyed in the past few hours.Earlier today, the Saudi Ministry of Defence announced the detection and interception of five ballistic missiles targeting the Eastern Province.

The Ministry of Municipality on Saturday observed the Earth Hour event by switching off nonessential lights at its compounds for an hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.In a post on the X platform, the ministry clarified that its participation in this global event came as part of awareness-promotion efforts on the criticality of rationalizing power and backing climate change-combating efforts, as well as in support of achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

Public and private schools will resume in-person learning today after the Ministry of Education and Higher Education confirmed that all preparations are in place to receive students safely, following a period of disruption caused by recent circumstances that forced a temporary shift away from classroom learning.The ministry said nearly 417,000 students across public and private institutions are expected to return to classrooms, with school buildings cleared for occupancy after comprehensive preventive maintenance checks, operational systems verified, and service providers confirmed as ready to function in line with approved standards.Maryam Abdullah al-Mohannadi, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department, said the resumption was the result of integrated efforts across multiple ministry sectors and sustained coordination with relevant national authorities. She added that high-level monitoring would continue to ensure rapid response to any developments and to safeguard both students and staff.On the safety front, the General Directorate of Civil Defence ran four days of emergency response workshops at the Officers Club last week, training around 1,200 school principals, deputies and designated safety officials on evacuation and shelter procedures linked to the national warning system. The sessions were aimed at standardising how schools respond when alerts are issued under exceptional circumstances.Separately, the ministry's Training and Development Centre brought together close to 9,700 teachers, school leaders, administrators and coordinators through its "Irtiqa 3" online forum, held via Microsoft Teams. The session focused on leadership integration, psychological resilience and operational organisation to sustain effective learning environments going forward.Psychological and social specialists were also briefed on mechanisms for receiving students and helping them readjust to classroom life following recent events, with the ministry placing particular emphasis on mental well-being and creating a motivating environment for learning.Private schools received a separate package of regulatory and awareness measures, covering compliance with safety requirements, continuity of teaching staff, and flexible operational responses in line with approved regulations.The ministry urged parents to act as active partners in the process, asking them to reinforce attendance, support adherence to safety guidelines and promote a culture of awareness — particularly on school buses and within school premises — as the country works to restore full educational stability in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
