His Excellency Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi met separately with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Tone Kajzer; HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Solomon Islands Rick Houenipwela; HE Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Robert Kupiecki; and HE State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nevena Jovanovic, on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.The meetings discussed cooperative relations between Qatar and these countries, as well as ways to support and enhance them, alongside a number of topics of mutual interest. 

The College of Business and Economics at Qatar University (QU) hosted the 12th Forum of the Deans of Colleges of Business of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting was attended by Dr. Rima Hassan BinSaeed, the Secretary-General of the committee and several deans of member states.The meeting discussed a range of topics and initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration among the colleges. Key areas included opportunities for joint supervision of postgraduate students, the exchange of experiences and expertise in international accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the sharing of successful practices among member colleges. Participants also explored opportunities for collaboration and partnerships in programs and initiatives of mutual interest.The meeting also addressed several academic and research initiatives aimed at strengthening connections among business colleges across GCC countries. These included student initiatives, academic publishing, and collaboration in digital transformation and sustainability, with the aim of advancing academic practices and enhancing educational outcomes.In his remarks, Dr. Omar Al Ansari, President of QU, emphasized that the meeting provided an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the colleges, exchange knowledge and experiences, and explore new avenues for academic and research collaboration among higher education institutions. He noted that greater integration among these institutions is essential to contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy that meets the aspirations of the region and its future generations.Dr. Abdullah Fetais, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at QU, emphasized the importance of continuing these meetings to strengthen cooperation, exchange expertise, and develop joint initiatives among the colleges in support of their shared goals and aspirations.QU's hosting of this meeting reflects its commitment to supporting academic and research collaboration among educational institutions. 

 Qatar Chamber discussed enhancing economic cooperation with Sri Lanka, as well as investment opportunities available to the private sectors of both countries and ways to enhance communication between business communities.This came in a meeting held by First Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Employment of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Arun Hemachandra.The two sides reviewed investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, particularly in the agricultural sector, as well as potential cooperation in other sectors of mutual interest.In this context, Al Kuwari stressed the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Qatar and Sri Lanka, noting Qatar Chamber's commitment to promoting communication between the private sectors of both countries and familiarizing Qatari businesspeople with available investment opportunities.In turn, Hemachandra invited Qatar Chamber and Qatari businesspeople to visit Sri Lanka to explore investment opportunities, learn more about the business environment and the advantages offered by the Sri Lankan economy to investors. He also invited them to participate in 'Sri Lanka Expo 2027,' scheduled to be held in January 2027. 

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) and Honeywell Technologies have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on establishing an integrated manufacturing and service hub in Qatar's free zones, with the aim of advancing local capabilities across mission-critical industries.The MoU was signed by HE Chief Executive Officer of QFZ Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, and Matt Spalding, Vice President, Process Technology at Honeywell Technologies, on the sidelines of Qatar Economic Forum: UNGA Special Edition 2026. The signing was attended by senior executives from QFZ and Honeywell Technologies.QFZ said in a statement on Wednesday that the hub will focus on the machining and servicing of Honeywell Technologies Sundyne pumps used across energy and process industries, supporting customers in Qatar, the wider Middle East and Africa.The MoU also creates opportunities for wider cooperation across Honeywell Technologies’ portfolio, including process technology, automation, cybersecurity and building automation solutions. The collaboration will further support ecosystem development by encouraging relevant partners and suppliers to explore opportunities to establish their presence in QFZ, while also engaging with research and academic institutions to launch new initiatives that help strengthen local capabilities and develop Qatari talent.HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani said the partnership would deepen Qatar's industrial ecosystem by expanding localized manufacturing, servicing and automation capabilities. He highlighted QFZ's integrated platform, strategic connectivity and investor ecosystem as a strong foundation for scaling these capabilities in support of the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.For his part, Matt Spalding said Honeywell was committed to advancing initiatives that localize innovative technologies across mission-critical industries and support Qatar's industrial growth and national development objectives. He added that the partnership would help customers across the Middle East and Africa improve efficiency, resilience and operational intelligence through advanced process solutions, while strengthening service delivery and developing manufacturing capabilities in Qatar.Through strategic partnerships, QFZ continues to create pathways for advanced manufacturing, technology and industrial innovation across its free zones. These efforts reinforce QFZ’s value proposition for investors while supporting localization, sustainable growth and the continued development of Qatar’s competitive industrial ecosystem. 

The State of Qatar welcomes the joint decision by the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Rwanda to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies, and considers it a positive step that reflects the two countries’ commitment to overcoming differences through dialogue and mutual understanding.In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that Doha hosted, in June 2025, the first meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, as part of the State of Qatar’s efforts to bring the two sides’ perspectives closer together. The meeting opened the door to direct dialogue and paved the way for subsequent meetings and communications that led to the resumption of diplomatic relations. The Ministry also expresses the State of Qatar’s appreciation for the two countries’ recognition of its role in this process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commends the constructive spirit demonstrated by both sides in addressing differences and clearing up misunderstandings, and expresses the State of Qatar’s hope that the resumption of diplomatic relations will open new horizons for cooperation between the two countries, in a manner that supports peace and stability at the regional and international levels.The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar’s firm belief that direct dialogue and diplomatic means represent the optimal path for resolving differences between states, and affirms the State of Qatar’s continued support for all efforts aimed at bringing perspectives closer together and resolving disputes through peaceful means. 

Qatari swimmer Ali Tamer has qualified for the final of the men’s 200-meter freestyle final at the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), after finishing fourth in the heats with a time of 1:48.66.Tamer delivered a strong performance in the heats to secure his place in the final, which brings together some of the top swimmers competing at the continental Games.The Qatari swimmer continues to make an impressive showing at the Games, following the notable performances he delivered in previous races, demonstrating his improving level and ability to compete at major continental events.Ali Tamer’s participation is part of the Qatari swimming team’s campaign at the Asian Games, where Qatar’s swimmers are seeking to put in strong performances and achieve commendable results.Tamer will look to maintain his strong form in the final and achieve the best possible result in the 200-meter freestyle, amid expectations of a highly competitive race among the swimmers. 

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has announced the completion of preparations to host the second edition of the "Qiyada: Aspirations and Development of Muslim Youth in Qatar" conference. Held under the theme "Guided by Faith, We Thrive in a Changing World", the event will take place on September 25 and 26 at Multaqa (Education City Student Center), featuring a distinguished group of scholars, thought leaders, and inspiring personalities.In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Executive Director of Student Services at QF Higher Education, Dr Abdulnassir Shamlan Al-Tamimi, emphasized that the second edition of the "Qiyada" conference addresses the rapid changes and challenges facing young people-foremost among them digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and pressures affecting identity and values.Dr. Al-Tamimi stated that the conference serves as an open invitation for young people to come together and explore how faith, values, and resilience can provide guidance and strength in facing the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing world. He expressed his hope that the conference would help participants deepen their self-understanding, strengthen their appreciation for their cultures and values, and renew their commitment to serving others and contributing to the common good.He said that the conference embodies the firm belief of QF-rooted in its educational mission and Islamic values-that education extends beyond academic success to encompass building moral character, fostering self-discipline, and strengthening the commitment to community service.He noted that the conference serves as a leading annual gathering, bringing together between 1,400 and 1,500 participants-aged 17 to 24 and from diverse backgrounds-including university students, students from Qatar Foundation schools, and those from various higher education institutions across the country. It aims to provide a space for learning, self-reflection, and meaningful engagement, thereby supporting their personal growth and empowering them to contribute positively to their communities.He also highlighted that "Qiyada" is conducted in both Arabic and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided for the main sessions. The conference was launched by the counseling and support Office within Qatar Foundation’s Higher Education to support the institute’s mission of fostering education, leadership, and innovation, while embedding a culture of dialogue and collaboration and contributing to positive societal and global impact.He explained that the current edition shifts the focus from theoretical inspiration to a more interactive, applied experience, equipping participants with practical tools they can use in their daily lives. The program rests on four key pillars: awareness-to understand reality and the transformations taking place around us; identity-to define values and establish an ethical and spiritual frame of reference; tools-to acquire the intellectual and practical skills needed to navigate challenges; and resilience and action-to translate ideas into initiatives that create a tangible impact on society.He added that the sessions and workshops would address a range of vital topics, including mental health, resilience, and overcoming anxiety and stress; digital and technological awareness, as well as navigating artificial intelligence and algorithms; religious and spiritual grounding; civic and community engagement and responsibility; and economic and financial empowerment, alongside decision-making amidst uncertainty.Dr. Al-Tamimi reviewed the results of the conference's inaugural edition, noting the participation of over 1,467 individuals and a daily attendance exceeding 1,200 participants. The event featured 40 speakers across 26 sessions, achieved a media reach of 15.7 million people, and garnered an overall satisfaction rating of 4.7 out of 5.Concluding his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Executive Director of Student Services at QF Higher Education, Dr Abdulnassir Shamlan Al-Tamimi affirmed Qatar Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth. He highlighted the Foundation's dedication to equipping young people with authentic knowledge and purposeful guidance to build a conscious, innovative generation capable of making a positive impact-all while taking pride in their cultural and Islamic identity-and to reinforcing Qatar’s position as a unifying platform that inspires Muslim youth.  

The State of Qatar participated in the high-level side event titled "Delivering Social Rights, Renewing Democracy: From Doha and Chisinau to a New Democratic Pact for Europe," held on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.The State of Qatar was represented at the event by HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani. In her remarks during the event, Her Excellency emphasized that the State of Qatar’s hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development demonstrated its firm commitment to supporting multilateral action. She noted that the summit contributed to renewing the international commitment to placing people at the heart of the development process and promoting social justice, solidarity, and international cooperation.Her Excellency also affirmed that the Doha Political Declaration constitutes an important framework for guiding international efforts to translate commitments into concrete action toward achieving development and social justice. This, she noted, contributes to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ensuring that no one is left behind. 

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has won the FM Implementation in Large-Scale Projects award at the fifth edition of the MEFMA Awards of Excellence in Facilities Management (FM), organized by the Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA).Kahramaa said the award reflects its leadership in adopting international best practices in facilities and asset management, while highlighting its success in harnessing digital transformation and institutional innovation to enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainability.The award recognized Kahramaa's Asset Tracking System project, which uses barcode technology and is integrated with the corporation's maintenance management system within its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The project spans more than 600 operational sites, including administrative buildings, power stations, water plants, customer service centers, data centers and other vital facilities. The system incorporates a verified database of more than 77,000 assets, helping streamline asset management, accelerate response and maintenance operations across Kahramaa's facilities, and advance the corporation's efforts to achieve operational sustainability. Kahramaa's General Services Department said the award reflects the collective efforts and advanced capabilities the corporation has developed in managing its facilities and assets. It added that the recognition strengthens Kahramaa's presence in specialized industry forums and demonstrates its ability to develop innovative operational models built around digital transformation, enhanced efficiency and operational sustainability.The award carries particular significance as the MEFMA Awards of Excellence in FM are a leading regional platform recognizing innovation, leadership and measurable impact in facilities management. The fifth edition, held in Dubai on September 17, featured 16 categories and recognized a record 35 winners and highly commended recipients from across the region.

Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed 2,298 food baskets to displaced and highly vulnerable people across four states in Nigeria.This comes as part of the organisation's humanitarian response to food insecurity in the country, according to Qatar Charity's press report Tuesday.Each basket contained essential food items to meet the immediate nutritional needs of beneficiary families, the report said, benefiting approximately 12,575 displaced and vulnerable people in the states of Borno, Kogi, and Niger, in addition to the families of patients who underwent cataract surgery as part of Qatar Charity's eye care project in Yobe State.**media[494862]**It added that distribution was carried out in co-operation and co-ordination with the relevant government and local authorities, including the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Borno State and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Kogi State.Priority was given to persons with disabilities and households headed by widows or elderly people.The intervention comes amid continuing rising living costs and food security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in conflict-affected areas of the country's north-east, the organisation said.In a related development and under its ongoing "Ibsar" (Eyesight) Initiative, Qatar Charity has recently carried out 1,074 eye surgeries, which enabled 1,018 beneficiaries in northern Nigeria to regain their sight.The organisation has also distributed 270 white canes to people with visual impairments whose sight could not be restored through surgery.These efforts seek to improve eye care services and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable groups, according to Qatar Charity. 

Qatar is set to train its workforce for the AI era on a large scale. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has joined Google Cloud to launch a national upskilling drive that will open more than 50,000 training seats by 2030.Delivered through Qatar Digital Academy, the initiative will give professionals across the country hands-on command of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other advanced digital technologies, the tools that are rapidly reshaping how economies work, compete and grow.The programme is built as a ladder rather than a single course. It starts with foundational digital literacy and climbs to specialised tracks for executives, technical professionals and developers, so that talent at every level can move from understanding new technologies to putting them to work.It is a central part of MCIT's push to develop human capital and build a deep pool of digital talent that can keep pace with fast-moving technology and meet the specialised skills needs of sectors across the economy.Her Excellency Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT Reem Mohammed al-Mansoori described capability-building as a cornerstone of Qatar's digital transformation."This initiative expands investment in skills by providing specialised training pathways that address the needs of the workforce, executive leaders and technical professionals," she said. "By providing more than 50,000 training seats by 2030, we aim to build a broad base of talent capable of leveraging artificial intelligence and cloud technologies and developing digital solutions that enhance institutional efficiency and support the growth of the digital economy."She tied the programme directly to the Digital Agenda 2030, which targets the creation of about 26,000 jobs in the information and communications technology sector by the end of the decade and a 10% rise in the capabilities of ICT professionals through advanced skills development."Through this programme, we are translating these targets into practical capacity-building pathways in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and advanced digital technologies," al-Mansoori said.For Google Cloud, the initiative scales up a track record already in place. The company has trained more than 12,000 people in Qatar over the past five years."Our expanded skilling collaboration with MCIT scales this commitment to deliver over 50,000 learning opportunities by 2030," said Ghassan Kosta, Regional General Manager at Google Cloud. "Through specialised frameworks like the Advanced Solutions Lab and targeted curricula for Gemini Enterprise and Google Looker, we are providing the structured technical proficiency required to architect and deploy enterprise-scale cloud and AI solutions."The programme runs under the five-year framework agreement between MCIT and Google Cloud. It was unveiled at Google Cloud Summit Doha 2026 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), which coincided with the third anniversary of Google Cloud's Doha region.
