Qatar Charity (QC) has inaugurated a comprehensive health centre in Al-Hamra, Mafraq Governorate, Jordan, at a total cost of approximately QAR 10mn, as part of development co-operation under the Qatar-Jordan partnership to support the health sector.  The opening ceremony was attended by Jordan’s Minister of Health, Dr Ibrahim al-Bdour; Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim al-Thani; and QC Chief Executive Officer Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, alongside several local officials and community leaders.  Covering an area of 1,769 square meters, the centre is outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment and devices to provide primary and comprehensive healthcare services.  It includes emergency and ambulance departments, a radiology unit, a pharmacy, a dental laboratory, clinics specialising in chronic diseases, maternal and child health, and dentistry, as well as administrative facilities.Al-Bdour said the centre represents a significant addition to the healthcare system in Mafraq Governorate, helping improve the quality of medical services and expand access to comprehensive healthcare. He praised QC’s efforts and support in completing the project.  For his part, al-Kuwari said the centre’s opening forms part of the organisation’s strategy to support communities and expand access to essential services. He expressed gratitude to Jordan’s Ministry of Health and the relevant entities for facilitating the project’s completion.  The new centre is expected to ease the burden on existing health facilities in Mafraq and provide integrated medical services to residents of the governorate and neighbouring areas. 

Nasser al-Attiyah clinched a record-extending 21st Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) title after the Qatari ace won the Cyprus Rally for the 10th time in his career, beating Simos Galatariotis by just 4.63 seconds in a thrilling finish on Sunday.The victory margin was the second-smallest in the history of the Cyprus Rally, which has been organised by the Cyprus Automobile Association since 1970. The narrowest margin was recorded in 2018, when Galatariotis beat Magalhaes by just 0.7 seconds.Galatariotis and co-driver Antonios Ioannou, in a Skoda Fabia RS, headed into the final special stage with a 3.6-second lead after winning three consecutive stages to overturn a one-minute deficit to al-Attiyah and his Spanish navigator Candido Carrera. **media[508930]**Al-Attiyah had encountered problems in the first two stages of the afternoon and finished with their Skoda Fabia damaged. However, al-Attiyah mounted a dramatic fightback in the final stage, pushing hard without a spare tyre and finishing 8.7 seconds faster than his Cypriot rival to snatch victory. Galatariotis secured a place on the Cyprus Rally podium for the third time, his first since winning the event in 2018.The 52nd Cyprus Rally was the fifth and final round of the 2026 FIA Middle East Rally Championship.“Winning the Middle East title for the 21st time and the Cyprus Rally for the 10th time is a source of great pride and honour,” al-Attiyah said. “Winning the rally was not easy. I faced many difficulties until the final metres, but I never lost confidence in my ability to fight back and secure victory, with the help of my Spanish navigator, Candido Carrera, and all the team members.”Al-Attiyah also expressed his gratitude for the support he receives from Qatar, saying it continued to motivate him to achieve success and raise the country's flag on the international stage. He added that his victories were the result of hard work and determination, and that he hoped to bring further honours to Qatari sport in future events.Al-Attiyah and Carrera won six special stages, while Galatariotis and Ioannou claimed four. The rally covered 657.74km, including 183.92km across 12 gravel special stages. One special stage, the first scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled after spectators failed to comply with instructions from safety marshals. 

Saudi state oil company Aramco has told staff to evacuate its headquarters in Dhahran on the Gulf, six people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters Thursday, as fighting between the world's largest crude exporter and Yemen's Houthis intensifies.Clashes between the Houthis and a Saudi-led coalition that backs Yemen's internationally recognised government have raged since the group pushed towards Bab el-Mandeb, a shipping chokepoint at the Red Sea's mouth.The instruction to staff to evacuate the building and work remotely follows a wave of Houthi attacks on the kingdom, targeting the company and Saudi airports. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what would be the first evacuation since the start of the Iran war.It was unclear what the reason for the evacuation was.The kingdom's benchmark index .TASI dropped 2.5% Thursday following the Aramco news, according to LSEG data. Oil prices rose to their highest since May Thursday on concern over an escalation of the Middle East conflict and its impact on crude oil supplies from the world's key exporting region.HOUTHIS SAY THEY TARGETED ARAMCO IN YANBUHouthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a televised speech that the group had launched attacks on Aramco facilities in the Red Sea city of Yanbu and the Saudi defence ministry in the capital Riyadh. Saudi authorities did not confirm the attack.The Saudi-led coalition said Thursday it had intercepted drones over Riyadh and Islam's holy city of Madinah, which is near Yanbu.The renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and Houthi militias in recent weeks ended a 2022 UN-brokered truce, which had largely halted cross-border attacks, and opened another front in the US-Israeli war on Iran.The Houthis caused extensive damage to Aramco's headquarters earlier this month when they struck the building, with fire spreading across several floors.Saudi Arabia has responded to Houthi attacks with a wave of strikes on missile launcher sites, vowing to protect the kingdom, and says it has intercepted many ballistic missiles fired by the group.Saree said that Saudi attacks on Yemen have killed and wounded 562 people since mid July, when the Houthis imposed a naval blockade on the kingdom which then drew a warning from the Saudi-led coalition that it would respond "firmly".Separately, he said earlier Thursday that the group is rescuing a boat carrying 14 Indians that was attacked off Jabal Zuqar island near the strait, one of the territories the group seized in an advance in September.Saree blamed the attack on Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.HOUTHI AIRPORT ATTACKSA Houthi attack on King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia's eastern oil hub of Dammam near Dhahran on Wednesday evening killed two people, a Saudi citizen and an Indian national, and wounded eight others.Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said Thursday that operations at the airport had resumed and air traffic had returned to normal.The Houthis had warned airlines this month against using Saudi airspace as they have repeatedly targeted Saudi airports, including Riyadh's international airport and the southern airport of Abha.Brent crude futures LCOc1 climbed $3.06, or 2.81%, to $111.88 a barrel by 1104 GMT Thursday. They hit $112.55 a barrel earlier in the session, the highest since May 18. 

HE Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid al-Thani, President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation (QBWF), on Friday attended the United World Wrestling (UWW) Ordinary Congress in Kazakhstan. The UWW Ordinary Congress was also attended by presidents and representatives of national federations from around the world. The meetings on Friday addressed several important agenda items most notably the strategy for developing wrestling at the continental and international levels. Discussions at the UWW Ordinary Congress also included updates to technical regulations and upcoming championships as well as ways to enhance cooperation among member federations to further develop the sport. HE Sheikh Fahad's participation in these meetings reflects QBWF's commitment to strengthening Qatar's presence in international sports organizations and exploring opportunities for exchanging expertise. Such meetings aim to support and develop Qatari talent and expand the sport's reach both locally and continentally. On the sidelines of the UWW Ordinary Congress meetings, the President of QBWF met with a number of officials from the International Wrestling Federation and heads of national federations, where joint cooperation plans and ways to support and develop wrestling during the next stage were reviewed.

His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has hailed the fruitful talks he held with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron in Doha, underscoring the progress achieved in bilateral relations and the two countries' shared commitment to consolidating security and stability and serving the mutual interests of their peoples.In a post on his official account on X, HH the Amir described his talks with President Emmanuel Macron, who is on a state visit to Qatar, as fruitful, saying that they discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and expand bilateral cooperation, and exchanged views on key regional and international issues.HH the Amir expressed pride in the progress achieved in Qatari-French relations and reaffirmed the two countries' shared commitment to consolidating security and stability and serving the mutual interests of their peoples. 

Tennis players will lose a longstanding exemption from strict anti-doping whereabouts requirements during tournaments from January 2027, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Wednesday.Changes to the World Anti-Doping Code require players in a sport's Registered Testing Pool (RTP) to provide a daily 60-minute testing window during competition from 2027, ending an exemption previously granted to tennis because of the unpredictability of players' schedules.The ITIA, an independent body that protects fairness in the game, said that it would reduce the size of its RTP, moving around 80% of players currently in the group to an expanded testing pool where the daily 60-minute requirement will not apply."Players who remain in the reduced RTP will be required to provide a daily 60-minute time slot like athletes in every WADA-compliant sport, both in and out of competition," the ITIA added.The number of players selected across both testing pools will be broadly consistent with the current testing pools, and testing frequency and volume are unlikely to change.The new rules will also provide greater protection for players who can establish that a positive test was caused by contamination, including through medication, food or drink, environmental exposure or another person.They will also provide greater flexibility in sanctions in certain circumstances, with rehabilitation-focused options for some recreational drug cases unrelated to sporting performance.Players will be informed in November which pool they have been assigned to, though individual classifications will not be made public.All players, regardless of their testing pool status, must provide a sample when requested by a doping control officer, with refusal carrying a potential ban of up to four years.
