The Ministry of Culture is participating in the sixth edition of the Iraq International Book Fair, which is being held from Dec. 3 to Dec. 13.The participation comes as part of the Ministry of Culture's commitment to enhancing the State of Qatar's presence in international cultural forums, reflecting the stature of Qatari culture, its openness to the Arab and global cultural scene, and supporting the country's efforts to build bridges of cultural communication among peoples.The Qatari pavilion features a collection of recent literary and intellectual publications issued by the Ministry of Culture and several Qatari publishing houses, highlighting the diversity of national cultural production and the richness of Qatar's creative movement.Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Doha International Book Fair, said in a statement that the ministry's participation in the Iraq International Book Fair is a continuation of its presence at major Arab and international cultural exhibitions. He said that the Qatari participation aims to showcase Qatar's cultural landscape and exchange expertise with international cultural institutions.He added that Qatar's presence in such events reflects the ministry's vision to support the book and publishing industry, as well as to encourage Qatari writers and creatives to reach a wider audience in the Arab world and internationally.He noted that through its international participation, the Ministry of Culture is keen to strengthen cultural relations with brotherly and friendly countries, and to introduce Qatari cultural production as part of Qatar's civilizational and human presence on the global stage.This edition of the exhibition features a wide range of local, Arab, and international publishing houses, with the attendance of hundreds of publishers and cultural institutions, reinforcing the fair's position as a prominent platform for new publications and a venue that brings together authors, creators, and those interested in publishing and reading under specialized programs.The exhibition program includes a variety of cultural activities such as book signing sessions, literary evenings, intellectual seminars, and workshops focused on the publishing industry, in addition to events aimed at youth and students, and programs designed to support reading and develop cultural skills among the public.

Iraq will face Bahrain on Wednesday at Stadium 974 in a Group D match for the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.Group D comprises of Iraq, Bahrain, Algeria, and Sudan.Iraq is the most decorated team in Arab Cup history by winning four titles: 1964, 1966, 1985, and 1988.Iraq enters the tournament with high morale after successfully qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026 play-off, where they will face the winner of the Bolivia-Suriname match in the World Cup play-off, which will be held between March 23-31 in Mexico.The winner will qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, in which 48 teams will participate for the first time in the United States, Canada and Mexico.The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 presents a great opportunity for Iraq to prepare for the World Cup play-off, taking advantage of the strong matches it will play in the tournament to enhance the harmony, understanding and readiness of its players for the decisive World Cup play-off.Iraq's national team is led by Australian coach Graham Arnold, who took over in May and aspires to make his mark in his first appearance in the Arab Cup.Meanwhile, Bahrain seeks to defend its chances in competing for the title of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, having been crowned winner of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup earlier in the year in Kuwait.Iraq and Bahrain previously faced each other in the group stage during the previous edition of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021. The match ended in a goalless draw.

 With the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 underway, Egyptian national team player Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan is proud of Qatar’s leading role in bringing recognition to the region in the world of sports.   “The world witnessed Qatar’s exceptional hosting capabilitiesduring the World Cup in 2022. It was a historic achievement not just for the country, but for the region. Now with the Arab Cup, all eyes are on Qatar once again, as Arab football takes centre stage,” said Egypt’s prolific striker, whose goal scoring style earned him the nickname ‘Trézéguet’, after former French footballer David Trézéguet. Egypt has been placed in Group C in the Arab Cup, alongside Jordan, UAE and Kuwait. The Pharaohs will look to improve on their last showing, when they finished fourth, after narrowly losing to hosts Qatar in a penalty shootout at the FIFA Arab Cup held in 2021. "The Arab Cup is an incredible tournament. It is an honour for Egypt to play in this prestigious competition. Every match is an opportunity for the team to showcase its strength, and I am sure they are ready to give it their all and make our fans proud," said Hassan, who also plays as a midfielder for Egyptian powerhouse, Al Ahly. His prolific club career also included playing for top European clubs, such as the English Premier League side Aston Villa, and Qatar's Al-Rayyan SC. Hassan marked his debut with the Egyptian national team in 2014, helping the team reach the African Cup final in 2017 and 2023. Most recently, he made a notable impact in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, scoring five goals and helping Egypt secure a spot at the prestigious tournament. "There is no greater feeling than wearing the national team jersey, with millions of Egyptian fans cheering for you. Playing for Egypt is an honour. I look forward to every match as though it is my first," said Hassan, who has made 86 appearances for his national team, scoring a total of 22 goals to date.Egypt will look to make their fans proud at the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, as the team gets ready to kick off their campaign on 2 December when they face Kuwait at the iconic Lusail Stadium, 5:30pm. “Playing in Qatar is a wonderful experience for any player. They will be playing on World Cup stadiums, which makes this tournament all the more special. Qatar’s sporting infrastructure is truly commendable. The quality of stadiums and facilities make a difference in a team’s performance and success,” said Hassan.   The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 is taking place from 1-18 December across six stadiums, that previously hosted matches during the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.. A total of 16 teams will have a chance to win the coveted trophy.

Overcoming the initial weakness, the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) Tuesday finally settled 53 points higher on the back of strong buying support from local retail investors.The banking counter witnessed higher than average demand as the 20-stock Qatar Index rose 0.5% to 10,674.06 points, recovering from an intraday low of 10,573 points.The Gulf institutions were increasingly net buyers in the main market, whose year-to-date gains improved further to 0.97%.About 61% of the traded constituents extended gains to investors in the main bourse, whose capitalisation added QR2.55bn or 0.4% to QR638.02bn, mainly on small and microcap segments.The Arab individuals were increasingly bearish in the main market, which saw as many as 3,616 exchange traded funds (sponsored by AlRayan Bank and Doha Bank) valued at QR8,024 trade across eight deals.The Arab individuals’ weakened net selling had its influence on the main bourse, whose trade turnover and volumes were on the rise.The Islamic index was seen outperforming the other indices of the main market, which saw no trading of treasury bills.However, the domestic institutions were increasingly net profit takers in the main bourse, which saw no trading of sovereign bonds.The Total Return Index rose 0.5%, the All Share Index by 0.43% and the All Islamic Index by 0.57% in the main market.The banks and financial services sector index gained 0.63%, telecom (0.42%), industrials (0.29%), consumer goods and services (0.11%), insurance (0.08%) and real estate (0.02%); while transport was down 0.09%.As many as 31 stocks gained, while 17 declined and three were unchanged.Major movers in the main market include QLM, Widam Food, Qatar German Medical Devices, Vodafone Qatar, AlRayan Bank, Qatar Islamic Bank, Al Faleh Educational Holding and Industries Qatar.Nevertheless, Inma Holding, Beema, Nakilat, Qatar National Cement and Barwa were among the shakers in the main bourse. In the venture market, Techno Q saw its shares depreciate in value.The local retail investors’ net buying increased substantially to QR44.87mn compared to QR2.22mn on December 1.The Gulf institutions’ net buying strengthened markedly to QR7.71mn against QR0.49mn the previous day.The Arab institutions’ net buying expanded marginally to QR0.15mn compared to QR0.02mn on Monday.The Arab individual investors’ net selling weakened noticeably to QR2.21mn against QR5.86mn on December 1.However, the domestic funds’ net profit booking increased significantly to QR49.5mn compared to QR4.97mn the previous day.The foreign institutions turned net sellers to the extent of QR1.36mn against net buyers of QR5.57mn on Monday.The foreign individuals were net sellers to the tune of QR0.07mn compared with net buyers of QR1.69mn on December 1.The Gulf retail investors’ net buying decreased perceptibly to QR0.41mn against QR0.83mn the previous day.The main market saw 24% jump in trade volumes to 137.53mn shares, 24% in value to QR425.41mn and 85% in deals to 30,317.In the venture market, a total of 0.05mn equities valued at QR0.11mn changed hands across 18 transactions. 

Qatar Chamber recently participated in the ‘First Gulf Forum for Building the Capacities and Skills of Home-Based Business Owners’, hosted by Kuwait.The two-day forum was organised by the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs of the GCC States, in partnership with the Federation of GCC Chambers. The event brought together representatives of government entities, the private sector, and entrepreneurs from across the Gulf region.Fatima Issa al-Kuwari, Training Department head, represented the chamber at the forum and participated in a panel discussion on the role of GCC federations and chambers of commerce in supporting emerging projects.In her remarks, she emphasised the importance of home-based and emerging projects, which are among the promising engines of economic and social growth in GCC countries, calling for a supportive ecosystem that enables training, development, and access to opportunities for this category.She also highlighted the pivotal role played by Qatar Chamber in empowering home-business owners by designing high-quality training programmes, organising specialised events, and connecting them with numerous supporting entities through the training workshops it hosts.These workshops, she noted, focus on developing entrepreneurship skills and presenting inspiring success stories, contributing to enhancing the capabilities of project owners and improving their readiness to enter the market and transition toward sustainable business models.Al-Kuwari said the chamber also enables home-based projects to promote their products, and adopts initiatives that raise awareness about commercial transformation, while offering opportunities that strengthen the role of entrepreneurs in the national economy.She added that the shared vision of GCC chambers today is to build an integrated Gulf environment that supports innovation and enables home-based and emerging projects to evolve from simple initiatives into commercial ventures capable of competing and generating significant economic and social value.

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) successfully ensured smooth traffic flow in front of Al Bayt Stadium during the opening of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, after carrying out intensive field work to ensure the safe and smooth arrival of fans.These efforts were coordinated with the tournament's organizing committee and security committee to develop appropriate plans for closures and traffic diversions in accordance with the movement of fans entering and exiting the stadium.**media[389134]**In this context, operational team leader for Al Bayt Stadium at Ashghal Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Maraghi emphasized that all Ashghal's assets were in place, as the operational plan was implemented hours before the start of the opening match.**media[389135]**Al Maraghi added that Ashghal, represented by a specialized technical team from the Roads Operation and Maintenance Department, monitored traffic through the central control room, in direct coordination with the National Command Center and the special control room for the tournament, within the framework of joint cooperation to facilitate the movement of the crowds.**media[389136]**The work included implementing a number of traffic diversions, providing cones and plastic barriers, in addition to approximately 110 mobile electronic signs and TMA vehicles to guide road users to open lanes.70 directional signs were installed around the stadium, pedestrian walkways were planned inside the parking areas to ensure the safe arrival of fans, and a special bus lane was prepared under Exit 51 to facilitate their movement to the parking areas.

As the exclusive educational partner of the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC25) in Doha, Qatar University (QU) announced the signing of several intellectual property (IP) licensing agreements with four emerging and international technology companies.The agreements were formalised during the “From Innovation to Impact: IP Commercialisation and Industry Collaboration Signing Ceremony”, held on the sidelines of the global event.These agreements align with the QU’s strategy to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem and accelerate the transition of research outputs from laboratories to industry and the marketplace, a statement said Tuesday.The QU signed a licensing agreement with ClearExhaust, the second startup to emerge from the university’s innovation ecosystem.ClearExhaust was founded and led by Prof Samer Ahmed from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, supported by a team of graduate students and research assistants at the QU.The company specialises in developing innovative systems to reduce emissions from combustion engines.Its first product, the “Smokeless Exhaust Pipe”, is based on a registered US patent and offers a breakthrough solution that removes 100% of visible diesel emissions while reducing carbon dioxide (*CO2) emissions by 20-30%.The system was developed at the QU’s Thermal Engines Laboratory and tested on TATA buses in collaboration with Al-Hamad Automobiles, as well as municipal service trucks at the Ministry of Municipality.The company is also developing a second innovation, the Portable Carbon Capture System, which demonstrated 100% carbon capture efficiency during laboratory testing on diesel engines.The technology will be registered soon as a US patent.These solutions address Qatar’s needs for emission reduction in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP 2021).The QU also signed an exclusive licensing agreement with iDiagnostix Ltd, a UK-based medical diagnostics company, to commercialise a novel blood test for the early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).The test is the first of its kind globally to achieve accuracy levels exceeding 80% sensitivity and specificity in both discovery and clinical validation studies, meeting the diagnostic standards set by the American Psychiatric Association.The technology analyses low-level protein modifications associated with metabolic changes in the brain, supported by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to ensure predictive accuracy.The company was founded in 2024 by former QU researcher Prof Naila Rabbani and Prof Paul Thornalley, formerly from Hamad Bin Khalifa University.The technology was developed and clinically validated in a large-scale study funded by the QU, which also owns the associated patents.The licensing agreement marks a major milestone in enabling early ASD diagnosis, improving referral accuracy, and accelerating access to timely support and treatment for children.The QU also signed an exclusive licensing agreement with QLife Pharma, a Qatar-based pharmaceutical company specialised in manufacturing high-value pharmaceutical products and advancing national self-sufficiency, to produce and commercialise Q-Silvano, a topical antimicrobial gel based on stable silver nanoparticles.The product was developed in the QU Health Sector – College of Pharmacy laboratory under the leadership of Prof Alaaeldin Elkilany.Q-Silvano is the first nano-based medical product to be officially registered with the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar.Technology transfer is currently underway to enable local manufacturing and product launch in early 2026, with plans for regional expansion into GCC and Mena (Middle East and North Africa) markets.The licensing agreement covers the transfer of formulation knowledge, enabling large-scale production, and facilitating commercial marketing processes.This collaboration focuses on technology transfer, regulatory compliance, quality systems development, and sustainable production scaling, supporting local market needs and paving the way for regional expansion.The achievement highlights the impact of QU-industry partnerships in transforming local research innovation into therapeutics manufactured in Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s knowledge-based health sector goals.The QU also launched a new collaboration agreement with Genesis Technologies, a startup emerging from the national research and innovation ecosystem, to introduce the Imdaat platform during its first commercial phase.The agreement transforms research outcomes developed by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council and the QU into a tangible digital product.The platform is preparing for its first implementation with a ministry in Qatar in the coming months, offering a reliable and secure decentralised system for issuing and verifying digital documents, enhancing government service efficiency, and supporting the nation’s digital transformation agenda.Commenting on the occasion, QU Vice-President (Research and Graduate Studies) Prof Aiman Erbad said: “The QU’s signing of a series of IP licensing agreements during MWC25 reflects the significant progress we have made in building an integrated innovation ecosystem grounded in applied research and researcher empowerment and in linking scientific output directly to industry and societal needs.”“These agreements mark an important step toward accelerating the transfer of national knowledge and technologies to global markets, while strengthening the ability of our startups to offer innovative solutions in vital fields such as digital health, sustainability, and clean energy,” he said. “We believe strategic partnerships with local and international institutions create unique opportunities for our researchers and students to expand their impact and achieve tangible economic and societal value.”These agreements, it was pointed out, reflect the advanced stage reached by the QU in building an integrated innovation and IP ecosystem founded on applied research support, researcher empowerment, the establishment of knowledge-based startups, and strengthened collaboration with industry locally and globally.At the end of the ceremony, the QU emphasised that enhancing the commercialisation of national innovations will remain a central focus of its research strategy in the coming years, supporting the knowledge-based economy and advancing national priorities in health, environment, and digital transformation, the statement added.

The Shura Council held its ordinary weekly session on Monday at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, chaired by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.At the outset of the session, the Shura Council welcomed Qatar's hosting of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, which kicks off later on Monday, praising the comprehensive organizational and operational preparations that underscore the State's ability to manage major sporting events efficiently and competently.The Council affirmed that, under the wise directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, this tournament stands as a significant Arab sporting event hosted by Doha. It added that the championship reinforces Arab unity, broadens opportunities for closer ties and the exchange of experiences, and positions sports as a platform for communication and the strengthening of human connections.Afterward, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud read out the session's agenda, and the Council approved the minutes of the previous session.During the session, the Council endorsed the State's draft general budget for the fiscal year 2026, along with the draft law approving the budget. Both were referred to the esteemed government after the Council reviewed the report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and discussed its details.The Council also reviewed a draft law amending certain provisions of Decree-Law No. (24) of 2019 on the regulation and management of the strategic stock of food and consumer goods, which had been referred by the esteemed government. The draft law was then forwarded to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee for study and to submit its report to the Council.Additionally, the Shura Council reviewed the government's statement regarding the Council's proposal titled "The Teacher and His Role in Instilling National Identity Values," and decided to refer the matter to the Education, Culture, Sports, and Media Affairs Committee for further study and to submit its findings to the Council.The Shura Council reviewed the report on the participation of HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, in the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament and the meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, both held in Geneva in July. The Council also examined the report on the participation of HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dosari, a member of the Council, in the meeting of the Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in July, as well as the report on HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, a member of the Council, in the seventh meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies on Counter-Terrorism, which was held virtually last July.
