* Seixas has seven wins this season, including the Tour of the Basque Country* At 19, Seixas will be the Tour's youngest starter since 1937* Seixas said his priority is the general ‌classification in his Tour debut  French cycling prodigy ​Paul Seixas said on ‌Thursday that he is ready to live his childhood dream ‌when he ⁠makes his Tour ‌de France debut on Saturday.The 19-year-old ‌rider was not certain of a place in Decathlon CMA CGM's team ⁠selected for the Tour at the start of the season.However, his brilliant start to 2026, with seven wins, including the Tour of the Basque Country and the Fleche Wallonne, made his inclusion inevitable.His participation was revealed in early May, a few days after being beaten only by Tadej Pogacar in Liege-Bastogne-Liege, giving France its biggest hope ​in a generation of a first home champion since Bernard Hinault in 1985. 'MAXIMUM OF SERIOUSNESS'"I approach this like any other race, with the maximum of seriousness and dedication. ‌There’s obviously that little something ⁠extra because it’s ​the Tour, a childhood dream," Seixas told a press conference ​on Thursday."The Tour has another dimension. A new experience is beginning for me, and I hope it will be a good one."Seixas will be the youngest rider to start the Tour since 1937, and doubts remain over whether he can last three weeks."We will see how my recovery is going after 10 or 15 days - these are more questions than fears," Seixas said."If there are any mistakes or if it’s tough, it’ll be a learning experience for ‌the future - that’s a positive ‌thing."We can't be perfect, especially ⁠over three weeks, it's long."CONTADOR IMPRESSEDAlberto Contador, Spain's twice Tour winner, has ⁠been impressed by Seixas. "I'm ⁠especially interested to see how he recovers from week to week because that's what will tell us whether he has what it takes to become a genuine Grand Tour contender. I think he certainly has a chance of finishing on the podium," Contador told Eurosport.Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard have ​won the last six Tours between them."The priority is to target the general classification, to live this experience, to see how it goes," Seixas added. "I don't know what will be the position but I won't take any risks for any other thing than the general classification."His preparations were disrupted last month when he quit the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes after crashing heavily."Obviously, the days after were not the easiest but the things improved ‌well, and I'm happy ​to be on the start line in top form," he said. 

Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar will chase a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title when the 2026 edition begins in Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday, with Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard and France's Paul Seixas poised to provide the stiffest competition.Pogacar, who has won the last two editions, aims ‌to join greats Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain and Eddy Merckx on five Tour ​victories. The 27-year-old has never competed ‌less than this season before entering the Tour, in which he will take part ‌for the seventh time. ⁠He has a total of ‌13 stage or general classification wins in ‌16 days of racing, including a maiden Milan-San Remo title, a third Tour of Flanders, a fourth Liege-Bastogne-Liege ⁠and Strade Bianche and, more recently, the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse."The Tour de France is always the biggest challenge of the season and also the race that motivates us the most," Pogacar said. "Every year, you arrive at the start knowing that anything can happen over three weeks, and that’s what makes it so special.""I feel good, I’m looking forward to racing, and I know I’ll have a fantastic group of teammates and staff around me."VINGEGAARD AIMS FOR GIRO-TOUR DOUBLEThe world champion, who ​admitted struggling with knee issues during last year's race and considered withdrawing, will be supported by a formidable team including Mexico's Isaac del Toro, winner of the recent Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, and Britain's Adam Yates, a third-place finisher in 2023.Pogacar's ‌main rival will once again be Vingegaard. ⁠The Dane seems close ​to the form that allowed him to win the world's most prestigious cycling race ​in 2022 and 2023. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider has won all three of his 2026 outings: Paris-Nice, the Tour of Catalunya, and the Giro d'Italia, where he claimed five stage wins.Vingegaard will try to imitate Pogacar, who in 2024 became the eighth and latest rider to achieve the Giro-Tour double."That gave me a tremendous amount of confidence heading into the Tour de France," Vingegaard said. "It gave us a huge boost and reinforced the feeling that we can win the Tour.""A third Tour victory would be a dream come true. It has been three years since I last won the Tour, and ever since then it has remained one of my biggest goals." The Visma-Lease a Bike squad, ‌however, suffered a blow when Belgium's Wout ‌van Aert, winner of 10 Tour stages, ⁠was ruled out with an elbow injury.FRANCE'S BIGGEST HOME HOPE IN A GENERATIONFrance's newest cycling hope, Paul Seixas, ⁠could turn the race for the yellow ⁠jersey into a three-horse affair. The 19-year-old prodigy makes his Tour debut, giving France its biggest hope in a generation of a first home champion since Bernard Hinault in 1985. Seixas made a dazzling start to 2026, winning the Tour of the Basque Country and the Fleche Wallonne in April before being beaten only by Pogacar in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege.However, he had to quit the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in early June after crashing heavily. He said he ​had been able to resume almost-normal training for the Tour de France, but added: "I’m not setting a more specific goal because I’m heading into the unknown - I’ve never competed in a race this long and demanding before. This is the race I’ve always dreamed of, and I realise how lucky I am to be able to compete in it so early in my career."If he can last three weeks, the Decathlon-CMA CGM rider could challenge for a podium finish along with Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe teammates Remco Evenepoel of Belgium and Florian Lipowitz of Germany, who respectively finished third in 2024 and 2025."The Tour is no longer won by an ‌exceptional rider alone, but by ​an exceptional team," says Zak Dempster, chief of sports at Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe.The Tour's 3,320.7 km route features 53,950 metres of climbing across 21 stages. 

Former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas said on Wednesday that his Netcompany Ineos team would be targeting the first yellow jersey of the Grand Boucle in Saturday's opening team time-trial.Now the British team's sporting director, Thomas is no stranger to time-trial success at the Tour.In 2017, he won the opening individual time-trial ahead of his team leader Chris Froome and wore the yellow jersey for four days. The following year, he went on to win the Tour.Netcompany Ineos have included several strong time-trialists in their eight-man team for the Tour, which begins in Barcelona.Italian Filippo Ganna is a twice former time-trial world champion having succeeded Norwegian Tobias Foss, while Briton Josh Tarling is a former European champion in the discipline.Asked at a press conference if he was aiming to win the opening 19.6km team time-trial, Thomas said: "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't."With their overall contender Oscar Onley, who was fourth last year, forced to miss the Tour through injury, the team will be hunting stage victories more than anything else. And none more so than the opening one.He said that the team had been practising throughout the year with the Tour TTT in mind."It's like anything, you're not going to win the mountain jersey without going up a hill," he said."But it's just a great opportunity for us, why not just give it a good shot? The boys are motivated for it."We've got some world-class time trialists... we've got two of the best individually and in the team discipline."It's just an exciting goal. Let's get out there, start with a bang and give it the best we can."New format At the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes a month ago, the team finished just nine seconds behind Visma-Lease a Bike in a 28.4km team time-trial in which they lost significant time when Onley's chain dropped and the others had to slow down and wait for him to fix it before continuing their charge.They will come into this weekend's race as one of the big favourites to take the first yellow jersey.The new team time-trial format, which ends with a punchy climb, requires classic time-trialists to deliver a more explosive climber to finish off their effort.In many teams case that will be their overall contender. Each team's time is taken when their first rider crosses the line. "Obviously there's been a lot of thought and a lot of discussion about the best strategy," said Thomas."You need a finisher that's able to go up that last climb quickly after the last 20 odd minutes."I don't think now is the time to discuss our strategy, but it's something we've put a lot of effort into."The final climb is less than a kilometre long and not massively steep, but tough enough that larger, heavier specialist sprinters or time-trialists would be unable to keep pace with a lighter punchy climber.  

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar will be joined by Isaac del Toro and Adam Yates in his quest for a record-equalling fifth Tour de France, his UAE team announced on Monday.In addition to Mexican Del Toro - recent winner of the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes - and Briton Yates, his regular mountain lieutenant, the Slovenian superstar's eight-man team will include German Nils Politt, Belgianpair Florian Vermeersch and Tim Wellens, Austrian Felix Grossschartner and American Brandon McNulty.The latter two were preferred to two of Pogacar's seasoned Tour teammates, Jhonatan Narvaez and Pavel Sivakov, who had been part of his previous winning squad."The Tour de France is always the biggest challenge of the season and also the race that motivates us the most," said Pogacar, winner in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025."Every year, you arrive at the start knowing that anything can happen over three weeks, and that's what makes it so special."We've prepared really well as a team, everyone has worked incredibly hard, and now we're excited to finally get started in Barcelona."The Tour de France will kick off with a team time trial through the streets of Barcelona on Saturday.Pogacar, 27, will bid to become the fifth rider to win a quintet of Tour de France titles after France's Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault, Belgian Eddy Merckx and Spaniard Miguel Indurain. Rookie Seixas aims high in unknown territoryFrench teenager Paul Seixas was on Monday named co-captain of the Decathlon CMA CGM team to compete at the Tour de France.The 19-year-old Seixas has been sensational all year, performing at a level never seen before from a teenager, but his team have set him up alongside the sprinter Olav Kooij as co-captain, which should deflect a little pressure away from the starlet on his Tour debut.The three-week race will set off from Barcelona on Saturday with Tadej Pogacar the favourite, but the Slovenian will be acutely aware that several other talents sit ready to pounce should he falter."I feel ready to give everything to get through these three weeks and achieve the best possible overall ranking," Seixas said on Monday."I'm not setting a more specific goal because I'm heading into the unknown, as I've never ridden a race that is so long and demanding," he said.Seixas will be the youngest Tour de France participant since 1937 when he sets off from the Catalan capital aged 19 years, nine months and 10 days.For his part, Kooij thanked the team for the honour bestowed on him."That Paul finishes as high in the standings as possible and that I win at least one sprint stage," Kooij said of his Tour aims.  

Danish cycling great Jonas Vingegaard will race the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia this year as he bids to become the eighth rider to win the three Grand Tours. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider unveiled his schedule Tuesday at his team’s media day in Nucia, on Spain’s Costa Blanca. The two-time Tour de France champion added the Vuelta a Espana trophy to his collection of titles last year. He will compete for the first time in the Giro from May 8-31, where he will be the overwhelming favourite in the absence of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Vingegaard will then race the Tour de France from July 4-26. He won the Tour in 2022 and 2023 but will start this time as an outsider against two-time defending champion Pogacar. “I have been thinking about riding the Giro for a while now,” said the 29-year-old. “It’s one of the biggest races on the calendar and it’s also one I have never done before. I really want to experience it, and now feels like the perfect moment. Winning the Vuelta last fall only gives me more motivation to go all-in for victory in Italy as well. I would love to add the pink jersey to my collection.” The Dane will begin his season on February 16 at the UAE Tour before also racing the Tour of Catalonia from March 23-29. “Over the past five years, my build-up to the Tour has been largely the same. This time we have chosen something new,” he said. “The organisation has designed a great course for the Giro. Perhaps not as demanding as in recent years, which makes combining the Giro and the Tour a favourable option for us.” Vingegaard will attempt to repeat Pogacar’s feat of 2024, when the Slovenian won both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. At the Giro, won in 2025 by his former teammate Simon Yates, who announced his retirement last week, Vingegaard will have another objective: to become just the eighth rider to have won all three Grand Tours in his career. Great rival Pogacar has won the Tour de France four times and the Giro once, but finished third during his only participation in Spain in 2019. Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil, Felice Gimondi, Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali and Chris Froome are the seven riders to have won all three Grand Tours. 

Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar of the Team UAE Emirates will try for a fifth Tour de France title in 2026 but is more excited by the two one-day Monuments that have so far eluded him; Paris-Roubaix and Milan San Remo.The 27-year-old Slovenian was speaking Saturday at a pre-season training camp at Benidorm in Spain.“I’m going to do Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, the Tour de Romandie, and the Tour de France. And then we’ll see, that’s already quite a lot,” Pogacar said.“If I could choose between a win at Roubaix or the Tour, I would choose Roubaix because I have already won the Tour four times,” said Pogacar, who complained of feeling drained during the 2025 Tour.“There is a bigger difference between zero and one than between four and five,” he added.Tour de France champion in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025, he can join an elite clique of five-time winners alongside Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain and Jacques Anquetil next July.“The Tour de France of course is the biggest race, everybody always arrives ready, teams always send their best team and you have to be super ready,” he said.“But if I won Roubaix and San Remo, I would feel sort of complete, but there’s always something else, like The Vuelta, I haven’t won that either,” he said, while refusing to be drawn on his participation in the Spanish Tour for 2026.Team UAE also confirmed that last year’s break-out rider Isaac del Toro would also race the Tour de France.The Mexican burst on to the cycling scene last May when he came close to winning the Giro, finishing second to Simon Yates.“The team’s idea is for me to learn as much as possible alongside Tadej, whose level I want to reach one day,” said Del Toro.Pogacar spoke glowingly of Del Toro.“Maybe he’s going to be better than me one day. He has his own way, his own style, and I admire him as a a rider and a person and hope he keeps going that way.” said Pogacar
