The Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan) – under the Qatar Foundation for Social Work – has announced the launch of the summer programme of the Council of Elders in co-operation with youth centres.  The summer programme encompasses a range of cultural, social, recreational, and awareness-raising activities targeting various age groups, aimed at strengthening communication and interaction among community members and reflecting the importance of partnerships with youth centres.  The Council of Elders explained that the programne is an extension of its mission to support purposeful community initiatives and enhance the role of elders in passing on their experiences and authentic values to younger generations.  The council commended the fruitful co-operation with youth centres and the resources they provide, which contribute to the success of the various events and activities.  The programme is scheduled to run throughout the summer, featuring a variety of events, workshops, and meetings designed to enrich the participants’ intellectual and social experiences and reinforce values of belonging and intergenerational communication.

 Mexico shares very long and strong bilateral relations with Qatar that have been strengthened over five decades, noted Mexican ambassador Jose Guillermo Ordorica Robles. The ambassador also said that Mexico offers a lot of technologies in the agricultural sector and his country is ready to share them with Qatar to ensure food security. Mexico and Qatar started bilateral relations in 1975, and we have completed 50 years of friendship and co-operation. Mexico was one of the first countries to set up diplomatic relations with Qatar. This is the 51st anniversary of our bilateral relations, and we are very proud of it,” Robles told the Gulf Times. The envoy stated that since the beginning of the bilateral relations, both countries have achieved several milestones. “We are sharing several common values and ideologies as we are committed to peace and dialogue. We are also committed to strengthening co-operation and multilateral diplomacy. We are very close to each other in so many practices,” the ambassador said. “We are very far in distance, but we are really very close in our values and ideologies and on several other fronts. There are several common grounds for both countries to be together, and we respect and value the relationship and hope we continue developing these beautiful bilateral relations in the years to come,” he continued. According to the envoy, the volume of trade between the two countries is growing year on year, and Mexico has many technologies to share with Qatar, especially in the agricultural sector. He underlined: “We are using several innovative technologies and ideas in agriculture, and we can share these with Qatar. Last year, we participated in the AgriteQ exhibition. Mexico has a lot of potential for co-operation in the agricultural sector. This is a great opportunity, and we are committed to it. We can share our experiences with Qatar to better the agriculture sector and to ensure food security in Qatar.” Meanwhile, Robles noted that trade between the two countries is mainly in metals and technology. “We also share many technologies, and I guess both countries are going in the right direction in this regard,” he underlined. Another area of similarity that the ambassador highlighted is the art and culture sector, as Mexico is part of the Years of Culture initiative this year, along with Canada. The Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture sets the stage for all three countries to celebrate their rich traditions and contemporary cultures. Mexic is renowned for its colourful celebrations, renowned muralists and exceptional craftsmanship. “The current exhibition brings together Mexico and Qatar. The exhibition through artistic elements, ‘Sand and Corn, One Sun’ invites us to reflect on the connections that unite our people and their vision about art as a way for strengthening international understanding,” he highlighted.“The idea is to share common values and arts practices of Qatar and Mexico. At a time when the world faces growing challenges and divisions, art and culture continue to offer a space for dialogue, empathy and mutual respect,” Robles said. “Art, I am certain, allows us to express different stories, emotions and visions. This is one way of fostering common artistic features and identity of both the countries,” concluded the ambassador.

Qatar University (QU) announced its new minimum admission requirements for undergraduate programs, setting the minimum high school average at 75 percent, with the changes set to take effect starting in the Fall 2027 semester.Under the updated requirements, the minimum admission average for the College of Medicine and the College of Dental Medicine will remain at 90 percent, while the minimum requirement for the College of Pharmacy will remain at 80 percent.The minimum admission average for all other colleges has been set at 75 percent.Meeting the minimum required average does not guarantee admission, as applicants must also satisfy all other admission requirements, including completing any standardized tests required by their respective colleges.QU emphasizes that the changes will not affect students applying before the new requirements come into effect. The update is part of the University's regular review of admission policies and procedures and is being announced well in advance to provide students and parents with ample time to plan and prepare for university admission requirements.The new requirements will apply to students enrolling beginning in the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027).The early announcement is intended to provide high school students with greater clarity regarding future admission requirements and to enable them to plan their academic pathways at an early stage.QU also reaffirms its commitment to providing students and parents with the information and guidance needed to navigate the admission process and encourages everyone to follow the University's official channels for any updates or additional details. The update comes as part of QU's ongoing efforts to develop its admission policies in line with its academic objectives and educational mission.

Qatar's Candidate Training Center has graduated the 15th cohort of its Military Science Diploma program for university graduates during a ceremony held under the patronage of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani.The event was attended by HE Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, Lt Gen (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, along with senior military officials.The nine-month program provided candidates with military training, field exercises, awareness lectures and joint exercises with various armed forces units, aimed at developing their combat and leadership capabilities.At the conclusion of the ceremony, HE the Chief of Staff presented graduation certificates to the participants.Among those attending were Major General (Pilot) Salem Abdullah Al Dosari, Deputy Chief of Staff for Education; Major General (Engineer/Air) Adel Hassan Fakhro, Chief of the Education Authority; Brigadier General (Dr.) Mohammed Abdullah Al Henzab, Commander of the Candidate Training Center, and a number of senior officers from the Qatar Armed Forces.

The Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade in the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudretov affirmed that the next five years will witness significant growth in the volume of trade and mutual investments between the State of Qatar and Uzbekistan, with Qatari investments moving from the stage of studying opportunities to active implementation in the energy, infrastructure, industry and finance sectors.He noted that Uzbekistan represents a strategic gateway to the markets of central Asia and beyond, which enhances the regional expansion opportunities for Qatari investors.In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Uzbek Minister said that economic and investment relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan are witnessing steady development, supported by the strategic partnership agreement that Uzbekistan ratified in 2025. He noted that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries increased by more than 30% last year, while Uzbek exports to Qatar recorded growth exceeding 36%.The Minister added that the greatest momentum in bilateral cooperation is concentrated in seven key sectors: transport and logistics infrastructure, energy, chemical industries, agriculture, education and tourism, in addition to exploring promising opportunities in the pharmaceutical, mining and financial sectors, including the possibility of Qatari banks entering the Uzbek market.Regarding joint projects, the Uzbek Minister noted the work to reach a preferential trade agreement between the two countries, and the organization of the 'Made in Uzbekistan' exhibition in Doha this year, in addition to developing projects in the mining, metal processing, building materials and chemical industries sectors. He emphasized that there is an opportunity for Qatari investments in power generation projects, oil and gas exploration and production, real estate, smart cities and tourism infrastructure.He added that the energy sector is a top priority for Qatari investors, along with the processing of vital minerals, manufacturing industries and building materials, in addition to the services sector, which is witnessing remarkable growth in the fields of financial technology and artificial intelligence, as Uzbek services exports reached about $10 billion. He noted that these opportunities are supported by economic reforms and increasing institutional stability.Concluding his statement to QNA, the Minister stressed that the private sector represents the main driver of bilateral economic relations, pointing to the development of its capabilities in Uzbekistan to work with foreign investors and establish partnerships and joint projects, in addition to activating economic dialogue platforms in Tashkent and Doha, adopting digital mechanisms to follow up on projects and monitor risks, as well as the role of the Foreign Investors Council in solving the challenges facing investors.

The Dividing City drew widespread praise from theatre practitioners, who lauded the production’s artistic vision, cast performances and collaborative theatrical execution, during a workshop at the 38th Doha Theatre Festival. The workshop, which took place following the Qatar Theatre Company performance at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC)’s Al Mayassa Theatre, opened the floor for discussion of the play. Playwright and director Saad al-Borshid lauded the cast’s work, saying: “I am honoured to be commentating on the play The Dividing City. The performances in this particular play were exceptionally refined; even in moments of silence, there was an expression that conveyed the message being communicated through that silence.” Theatre artist Salem al-Gahwashi also commended the production, highlighting the integration of its creative elements. “The magic that Mohammed al-Mulla conveyed to us in this production was all-encompassing,” he said. “It is a play in which every aspect and dimension is complete, embodying the principle that theatre is a collective art form whose elements integrate to achieve a common purpose.” Written by Talib al-Dous and directed by Mohammed Yousef al-Mulla, who also oversaw the production’s visual design, The Dividing City presents a dramatic narrative in which personal ambitions and family disputes converge. At its core lies an inheritance conflict that evolves into a broader existential struggle, exposing the intricate relationship between power, fear and legitimacy. The story follows a protagonist confronted by repeated attempts to deny her unborn child the right to exist, while those around her become entangled in calculations driven by influence, greed and the fear of losing authority. As the narrative unfolds, characters shift between pursuing personal gain and seeking justice, creating a dramatic tension that drives the work forward. Rather than relying on direct storytelling, The Dividing City employs a theatrical language in which characters and events serve as metaphors for broader societal concerns. The production reflects on the consequences of power becoming an end in itself and uses dramatic irony to highlight the ethical contradictions that emer`ge when individual interests collide with professed values. Meanwhile, a critical symposium dedicated to the play Under the Rubble was held earlier. The discussion featured critic Dr Hanan Qassab and writer-director Fahad al-Kuwari. Dr Qassab commended the production’s direction and atmospheric staging, noting its effective portrayal of the realities of war. She praised the work’s artistic maturity and clear visual vision, while also expressing reservations about the realism of certain scenes and aspects of the scenography. Al-Kuwari meanwhile noted that the play’s dramatic structure faced procedural and technical challenges. He said the work addressed a range of themes spanning women’s issues, politics, and social concerns, while also incorporating ideological dimensions that recurred throughout the text and the dramatic framework.
