Scott Parker has left his position as head coach of Burnley by mutual consent following the club's relegation from the Premier League, it was announced Thursday.Burnley said in a statement that Parker and the board had "mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude" following one season back in the English top division.Parker led the Clarets to promotion last year but this season has been a struggle, with just four league wins in total.Burnley's fate was confirmed on April 22 after a 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City, two days after Wolves were relegated.Parker, who has previously managed Fulham, Bournemouth and Belgian side Club Brugge, signed a three-year contract in July 2024, succeeding Vincent Kompany.He oversaw a remarkable 2024/25 season in the Championship, which included a 31-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets, taking them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.But Burnley have conceded 68 goals in 34 league matches in the current campaign, the most of any side, and were knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup by third-tier teams."The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication and contribution," Burnley said in a statement."He leaves with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected with Burnley Football Club."Former England midfielder Parker, 45, said in a statement on the club's website that it had been an "immense privilege" to lead Burnley."I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction," he said."I reflect back with great pride on what we achieved during my time at the club, especially our unforgettable promotion season in 2024/25, and it was a true honour to lead this team into the Premier League."The club said Parker's assistant, Mike Jackson, would take charge for the club's four remaining Premier League fixtures, beginning with Friday's match at Leeds United.It said the process of appointing a new permanent head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season had begun. 

Mired in a four-match losing streak, Mumbai Indians needed something special to revitalise their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign ‌and batter Tilak Varma duly delivered with ​an unbeaten century ‌in Monday’s win over Gujarat Titans. The middle-order ‌batter smashed 101 off ‌45 balls to lead the ‌five-time champions to a 99-run win that hauled them off the bottom of the table and up to seventh in the 10-team league. Varma’s previous best this season was 20 and the 23-year-old said he had struck form at just the right time. “The first hundred will always be special - and to ​be honest, it was very important for us,” he added. “We don’t have much time from here. Every game is important ‌for us.” Batting at number five, Varma ​collected 19 from his first 22 balls ​before racing to his first IPL hundred in just 45 balls. After going five innings without a six, he launched seven against a potent Gujarat attack that included Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan. “In the last five games, I haven’t spent much time in the middle. So I was just thinking that in this game, I ‌want to spend time ‌in the middle,” he said. “If you see the first 20 balls, I was just going ball-by-ball. Later on, once I had faced a few balls, I knew what I am capable of. “I was stable, keeping my head still and following my basics. I’ve got all the fancy shots - when the team needs, ​I can use that.” Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya, who played a largely support role in an 81-run stand with Varma, never doubted his teammate’s talent. “The only thing I kept telling him (was) - you’re goint to just watch the ball and hit the ball because I genuinely believe the kind of (way the) ball travels from his ‌bat is ​something really special,” Pandya said. 

West Ham's 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace condemned Wolves to relegation from the Premier League and boosted their own survival bid to leave struggling Tottenham deeper in trouble.Bottom of the table Wolves have long been destined for the drop and their descent into the Championship was confirmed by the stalemate at Selhurst Park.Wolves are now 16 points behind fourth-bottom West Ham, with a maximum of 15 available from their last five matches.After eight seasons in the top-flight, Wolves succumbed tamely, winning just three of their 33 league matches to date this term.Despite notable recent wins against Aston Villa and Liverpool, Wolves have looked relegation certainties for months and their eight-year stay in the Premier League is coming to an end.Vitor Pereira, now in charge of Nottingham Forest, started the season in charge of the Molineux club but the Portuguese coach was sacked in early November after a terrible start to the campaign.Former Middlesbrough boss Edwards was brought in but he had an almost impossible task and has been unable to work a miracle.Second-bottom Burnley look certain to join Wolves in the second tier next season.They will be relegated if they lose against title-chasing Manchester City today.The Hammers' draw improved their own survival prospects, moving them two points clear of third-bottom Tottenham.Tottenham's 2-2 draw against Brighton on Saturday was a boost to West Ham, with the two London rivals having five games left in the fight to avoid relegation.Tottenham, winless in their first two games under boss Roberto De Zerbi, haven't played in the second tier since 1977-78.The north Londoners have going 15 league matches without a win stretching back to December.Last in the Championship in 2011-12, West Ham's biggest league win for three years, 4-0 over Wolves nine days ago, moved them out of the bottom three for only the second time in 2026.Nuno Espirito Santo's side built on that result with a gritty point against UEFA Conference League semi-finalists Palace."It will go all the way, for sure. Not only at the bottom of the table but at the top. This season has been very tight," Nuno said."We have a mission ahead and keep going. It's going to be a fight until the end."Palace's win at West Ham in September sparked Graham Potter's sacking and Nuno's eventual appointment as his replacement.Nuno has gradually revived West Ham since then and from January 17 onwards, only four Premier League teams have picked up more points than the Hammers.West Ham threatened first when Valentin Castellanos fired over from the edge of the area.Brennan Johnson should have put Palace in front from Tyrick Mitchell's cross, but the unmarked forward headed wastefully wide.Johnson tried to make amends, curling narrowly wide from 18 yards.But it was West Ham who finished the half stronger, with El Hadji Malick Diouf's cross reaching Konstantinos Mavropanos for a towering header that forced a fine save from Dean Henderson.Mavropanos had another header repelled by Henderson after the interval.Palace winger Ismaila Sarr was denied a late winner when he slammed home from close-range, only for the goal to be disallowed for handball by Jean-Philippe Mateta. 

Manchester City beat stumbling Arsenal 2-1 to take charge of the Premier League title race as Liverpool strengthened their push for a Champions League place. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have been in pole position for months but are wobbling at the worst time as they seek to win the English title for the first time in 22 years. Erling Haaland was City’s matchwinner, netting in the 65th minute after Rayan Cherki’s superb opener was cancelled out by Kai Havertz, who took advantage of a huge mistake by City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Arteta was on his knees in the closing minutes as Havertz headed over the bar when presented with a golden chance to equalise. The result in front of City’s jubilant fans means that if Pep Guardiola’s City win their match at Burnley in midweek, they would be top of the table. The are now in pole position to win their seventh Premier League title in nine seasons, while Arsenal face the agony of finishing second for the fourth straight season. Earlier, Virgil van Dijk scored a last-gasp winner in the Merseyside derby. Just a few weeks ago the battle for the top five, which guarantees entry into the Champions League, looked as though it might be tight. But fifth-placed Liverpool’s 2-1 victory in their first match at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium took them seven points clear of stumbling Chelsea, in sixth spot. Captain Van Dijk was the hero for Arne Slot’s Liverpool, heading Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner past a helpless Jordan Pickford in the 100th minute. Mohamed Salah had opened the scoring for last season’s champions, slotting home in the first half following a superbly-weighted pass from Cody Gakpo. The goal took the wind out of the sails of David Moyes’s team but they were level through Beto within 10 minutes of the restart. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, on the left of Everton’s forward line, fired across goal for Beto to attack and he poked home ahead of an onrushing Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was immedaiately stretchered off to be replaced by Freddie Woodman. The game looked destined to end in a draw but the officials signalled 11 added minutes and Van Dijk had the last laugh. Fourth-placed Aston Villa squandered a two-goal lead against Sunderland but scored in stoppage time to win 4-3. Ollie Watkins scored twice for Villa, who moved level on 58 points with third-placed Manchester United, three clear of Liverpool. Villa were in total control at 3-1 ahead but nearly threw it away as first Trai Hume and then Wilson Isidor scored within a minute of each other for Sunderland. But there was still time for Tammy Abraham to grab a dramatic late winner. At the other end of the table, Morgan Gibbs-White netted a hat-trick as struggling Nottingham Forest came from behind against Burnley to win 4-1 and heap the pressure on troubled Tottenham. Forest, involved in a relegation scrap with West Ham and Tottenham, are now five points clear of 18th-placed Spurs, with Wolves and Burnley almost certainly doomed. West Ham, a point above Spurs, travel to face Crystal Palace Monday.

Coventry secured promotion to the Premier League on Friday as the Championship leaders' 1-1 draw against Blackburn ended their 25-year exile from the top-flight.Frank Lampard's side needed a point from their trip to Ewood Park to be certain of automatic promotion.They did it the hard way, trailing to Ryoya Morishita's deflected 54th-minute strike before Bobby Thomas headed the priceless equaliser in the 84th minute.Having led the Championship table for much of the season, the Sky Blues have wrapped up their return to English football's elite with three games to spare."It was an incredible moment. This is what it's about," a tearful Lampard said in an emotional post-match interview."Coming here and getting a point at this stage isn't easy. We had to see it out and we didn't know whether to attack again."Doing this after 25 years? Wow! Wow!"Backed by 7,500 raucous fans crammed into the Darwen End, Coventry were below their best for long periods of a nervous display.But their performance will quickly be forgotten, replaced by life-long memories of the promotion party that followed Thomas' glancing header from Victor Torp's free-kick.Supporters wept tears of joy when the final whistle announced their ascent to the Premier League."Amazing, amazing. I couldn't believe it when it went in," Thomas said. "It's been a hell of a season. I feel like we deserve it."Now Lampard's men can set their sights on winning the Championship title, with second-placed Ipswich 11 points behind with five matches to play."This is a serious, serious football club. I grew up with them as a top flight club but I didn't realise," Lampard said."To go and get promotion automatically as a non-parachute team with three games to go. These boys have managed to achieve something special and unique."Fittingly, Coventry's previous promotion to the top-flight in 1967 was also sealed at Blackburn when Rovers drew with Bolton.That was the start of a 34-year spell in the top tier before relegation in 2001 sparked a steep decline.Coventry plunged into the fourth tier for one season in 2017-18 and were even forced to play their home games in Northampton and Birmingham for three seasons due to a bitter legal battle between the club and their stadium's owners.The 1987 FA Cup winners' rise back to prominence was initially piloted by Mark Robins, whose second spell in charge brought promotion from League Two and League One.Losing the 2023 Championship play-off final against Luton stalled Coventry's momentum and eventually led to Robins' dismissal in 2024.Hiring former England star Lampard as Robins' replacement proved an inspired move as he revived his career following sackings by Chelsea and Everton.Lampard led Coventry away from the relegation zone in his first season before losing to Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals.Fuelled by the pain of that near-miss, Coventry embarked on a relentless march to promotion.A 7-1 demolition of QPR and a 5-3 win at Lampard's former club Derby in August established Coventry as the Championship's dominant force.Jack Rudoni's assured presence in midfield, complemented by the goals of Haji Wright, Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante, kept Coventry top of the pile as the promotion dream came true.The Sky Blues' success has also reinvigorated the midlands city, according to Coventry's Lord Mayor Rachel Lancaster."It's huge for Coventry football club and the fans, but for Coventry itself as a city, this has been massive," she said.Coventry owner Doug King added: "The fans have been starved of it for a long time and you can feel it."Twenty-five years is a huge amount of time. If you don't bounce back you feel like it's never going to happen."Getting out of this league is very difficult but we did it. We got the whole city together. I'm super proud of everybody." 

Arsenal’s shock 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth Saturday blew the Premier League title race wide open as Liverpool beat Fulham to boost their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The Gunners could have opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the table, but a third straight domestic defeat for Mikel Arteta’s men has put the destiny of the title back in Manchester City’s hands. City have two games in hand on the long-time leaders, starting with today’s trip to Chelsea, and host Arsenal next weekend in a potential title decider. Just a few weeks ago the Gunners were dreaming of an unprecedented quadruple but they lost to City in the League Cup final and were dumped out of the FA Cup by second-tier Southampton. A wobble in the Premier League, which they have not won since 2004, raises major doubts about their staying power, with six matches to go. After suffering just three defeats in their opening 49 matches of the season in all competitions, they have lost three of their past four, ramping up the tension. “It’s a big punch in the face, that’s what I said to the boys, and now it’s about how we react to that,” said a downbeat Arteta, whose team remain favourites for the title. The Spaniard, whose side have finished as runners-up three times in a row, admitted Arsenal’s long title drought was playing on their minds. “We know what is at stake and the fact that as a club we haven’t done it for so long is a reason for that,” said the Spaniard. “It talks about the difficulty but I just want to focus on the things that we can control, dominate and we have done. It’s not that we have to do a lot of new things that we haven’t done, no, let’s keep doing a lot of it, or almost all the things that we’ve done for nine months because that’s what has taken us all the way there.” Junior Kroupi reacted quickest to Adrien Truffert’s deflected cross to give mid-table Bournemouth an early lead, silencing a nervy crowd at the Emirates. Viktor Gyokeres levelled before the break from the penalty spot, but a lack of creative spark in the final third was again the home side’s undoing. Arsenal’s fine defensive record has underpinned their title charge but they were cut open with ease when Alex Scott finished off a fine team move for the winner in the 74th minute.Arteta said he desperately needed all his first-choice players back. Absentees on Saturday included Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori. “We need everything, first of all we need everybody fit and available,” he said. “So the ones that are not involved, the ones that are not with us, that are really big, important players, we need them immediately with us because then we’re going to be much stronger. And then the other ones, they need to stand up, me the first one, and embrace this challenge and go for it. So today we have to suffer. It’s painful, it’s a terrible feeling but tomorrow is a different day and if somebody would have said to me in August, we are in this position right now in April, I’m sure we would all take it.” Arsenal face Sporting Lisbon in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday after a 1-0 win in the first leg. Then four days later comes the summit meeting at City that could make or break their season. Five English sides will qualify for next season’s Champions League and fifth-placed Liverpool strengthened their case with a 2-0 home win against Fulham, easing the heat on manager Arne Slot. Teenager Rio Ngumoha scored his first goal at Anfield in the early evening match to put the Reds ahead, whipping his shot around the diving Bernd Leno after a jinking run.The recalled Mohamed Salah, departing at the end of the season, doubled Liverpool’s lead shortly before half-time with a sublime, arrowed finish. It is a desperately welcome three points for Liverpool and the beleaguered Slot, whose team had won just two of their previous eight games in all competitions. Heavy defeats by Manchester City in the FA Cup and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League have piled the pressure on the Dutch boss a year after he led the club to Premier League glory. Brentford and Everton missed the chance to move level on points with Liverpool earlier in the day, drawing 2-2. Twice the Bees led through Igor Thiago, who took his tally for the season to 21 Premier League goals and within one of Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot. Beto levelled midway through the first half for the visitors and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struck in stoppage time to salvage a point. Brighton are also well in the mix for their first ever taste of Champions League football. Mats Wieffer scored twice as the Seagulls beat relegation-bound Burnley 2-0. A fifth win in six games for Fabian Hurzeler’s men takes them up to ninth and within three points of the top five. It was a third successive league win ‌for Brighton while second-from-bottom Burnley ​look almost certain to be relegated as they are 12 points off the safety zone w Andy Robertson will bring down the curtain on his nine-year career at Liverpool at the end of the season, the faltering Premier League champions announced.The 32-year-old has made 373 appearances for the club, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League as a key member of the side that restored the Reds to the top of the English and European game under Jurgen Klopp. However, he has dropped down the pecking order this season since the arrival of Milos Kerkez and his contract, which expires at the end of the campaign, will not be renewed.The Scotland captain is the second high-profile departure from Liverpool in the coming months after Mohamed Salah announced he will also depart at the end of the season. “I’ll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I’ve put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I’ve not got many regrets,” said Robertson. “I’ve grown as a man and as a person. This club will always mean the world to me, the fans will mean the world to me. It has been a hell of a journey.”Less than a year on from winning the Premier League, Liverpool have endured a miserable campaign, marked by tragedy off the field. A close friend of Robertson’s, forward Diogo Jota died in a car accident in July. On the field, Arne Slot has struggled to find the right balance from an expensively assembled squad that sits fifth in the Premier League.Liverpool were also dumped out of the FA Cup 4-0 by Manchester City last weekend and lost 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Robertson’s rise was one of the success stories of Klopp’s glorious reign at Anfield.Signed from relegated Hull for £8mn ($11mn) in 2017, he quickly became a fan favourite. He sits behind only former team-mate Trent Alexander Arnold as the defender with most assists in Premier League history.On top of Premier League and Champions League glory, Robertson won the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. “I’m still fully focused on trying to end this season as positively as possible, to help these lads and to try to give a few more good moments to the fans,” added Robertson. “That’s my aim and hopefully then we can do it and maybe closer to the end of the season you’ll have me down a camera crying my eyes out.” 

Tottenham parted company with coach Igor Tudor by mutual consent Sunday after just seven games in charge as they battle to stay in the Premier League.Tudor lost five of those matches in a 44-day reign to leave Spurs out of the Champions League and hovering just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League.The 47-year-old did not appear in front of the media after last weekend's damaging 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest after learning of his father's death just after the game ended."We can confirm that it has been mutually agreed for head coach Igor Tudor to leave the club with immediate effect," Tottenham said in a statement."We also acknowledge the bereavement that Igor has recently suffered and send our support to him and his family at this difficult time."An update on a new head coach will be provided in due course."Tottenham are not in action again for another two weeks when they travel to Sunderland.Former Brighton and Marseille coach Roberto de Zerbi has been linked with the job, while reports have suggested the club could turn to Sean Dyche's Premier League experience to dig them out of trouble for the final seven games of the season.Tudor was appointed in February following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.Hired with a reputation of making an immediate impact during a nomadic coaching career, the Croatian was powerless to stop Tottenham's slide towards the relegation trapdoor for the first time since 1977.The London club, ravaged by injuries this season, have not won a league match since late December and are out of every cup competition.Even Tudor's sole victory was fruitless as a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid failed to overturn a 5-2 first leg deficit in the Champions League last 16.His decision to start and then substitute back-up goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes of the first leg in Madrid summed up a chaotic short-lived reign.Premier League slideIn the Premier League, he managed just one point from five games, which came against the odds in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.A 4-1 home defeat against north London rivals Arsenal got the former Juventus boss off to a bad start and worse was to come in further losses to Fulham, Crystal Palace and Forest.Spurs won the Europa League last year under Ange Postecoglou to end a 17-year trophy drought but the Australian was sacked following a 17th-place finish in the Premier League.Frank arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an impressive track record at Brentford and the club started the season with just one defeat in their first seven league games.But they lost their way and club bosses axed the Dane under fan pressure following a run of just two wins in 17 league games.With the fates of Burnley and Wolves almost certainly sealed, Spurs are battling for survival along with West Ham, currently in the relegation zone, Forest and Leeds.Relegation to the second-tier Championship would be a seismic event in English football.Spurs, who play in a gleaming new stadium that holds more than 60,000 fans, are one of the so-called "Big Six" in the Premier League and were ninth in Deloitte's latest Money League study for the richest clubs in world football.Just a few years ago they were Champions League regulars under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, reaching the final in 2019, but their decline has been precipitous. 

Mohamed Salah will leave Premier League champions Liverpool at the end of the season, the Egypt forward announced as he started a farewell to what the club said were nine "illustrious" years at Anfield.The 33-year-old arrived at Anfield from Roma in 2017 before making 435 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 255 goals to leave him third on the Reds' all-time leading goalscorers chart. He has also won the Premier League Golden Boot award on four occasions while starring for Liverpool in both their 2019/20 and 2024/25 title triumphs as well as lifting the 2019 Champions League trophy.His Liverpool honours also include a Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. But the currently injured Salah has scored just five Premier League goals so far this this season, compared with 29 in last term's title-winning campaign.And his Anfield future became the subject of intense speculation after a dramatic bust-up with Liverpool manager Arne Slot in December. He accused Liverpool of throwing him "under the bus" after he was benched for three games in a row and said he had no relationship with the Dutch boss.Salah, in a video on social media featuring highlights of his time with Liverpool, said: "Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not of this club."Salah, a free agent at the end of the season, added: "We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present."And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget and something I will take with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone," insisted Salah in a reference to the Liverpool fans' chant.Liverpool said on their website: "Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season. The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield. With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield," they added.Salah was forced off at Anfield last week after scoring in Liverpool's 4-0 victory against Galatasary, which sealed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals. In-form Salah had scored in three of his past four starts after an uncharacteristic lean spell but missed last weekend's 2-1 loss at Brighton, a blow to fifth-placed Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League. 

England opener Ben Duckett has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) four days before the start of the ‌tournament to focus on his international ​career, a decision ‌that could leave him facing a ‌two-season ban from ‌the league. The 31-year-old, who ‌scored 202 runs at an average of 20.20 during the Ashes, was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs20mn ($213,167) at the auction. Under IPL rules, any player who registers for the auction, is picked by a franchise and makes himself unavailable before the ​start of the season can be barred from participating in the tournament and the player auction ‌for two seasons. “I have made the ​extremely difficult decision to withdraw from ​the IPL. I have given this a lot of thought and it has not been an easy choice,” Duckett wrote on Instagram. “Representing England is something I have dreamed of since I was a child, and I want to give everything I can to English cricket. To do ‌that, I need ‌to ensure I am in the best possible place physically and mentally ahead of the summer. “I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone at Delhi. I was genuinely very excited about the opportunity to represent the franchise, and I fully appreciate the time and ​planning that goes into building a squad. “I am sorry for any disruption my decision may cause. I would also like to apologise to all the fans, as I know how much the team means to everyone in Delhi.” The IPL runs from March 28 to ‌May 31. 

A consortium of investors, including US asset management giant Blackstone, Tuesday announced the takeover of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), one of the founding clubs of Indian Premier League, for nearly $1.8bn. The announcement comes just days before the start of the lucrative T20 tournament on Saturday. The franchise, which won the IPL for the first time last year, was sold by United Spirits Limited, the Indian unit of British beverage giant Diageo, for Rs166.6bn ($1.77bn). In a statement, the acquiring consortium said it was “proud to become custodians of RCB.” The group includes Bolt Ventures, run by leading sports investor David Blitzer, Indian media conglomerate The Times of India Group, along with Blackstone and Indian corporate giant Aditya Birla Group. RCB’s “championship-winning culture” and its connection to the southern city of Bengaluru and “one of the most passionate fanbases in world sport make this an extraordinary opportunity.” “We are committed to taking RCB to new heights, on the pitch and beyond.” Praveen Someshwar, chief executive at United Spirits Limited, said the deal was a milestone “as we sharpen focus on our core beverage business to unlock its true potential with sustained growth.” Earlier this year, RCB’s women’s team won their second Women’s Premier League title. IPL’s RCB to keep 11 seats empty in honour of stampede dead Indian Premier League champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will keep 11 seats at their M Chinnaswamy Stadium empty in memory of the fans crushed to death in title celebrations last year, the team said Tuesday. Eleven supporters aged between 14 and 29 died in a stampede outside the stadium in June after RCB won the IPL for the first time. The lucrative T20 tournament begins its 2026 season on Saturday when RCB host Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Bengaluru team, including star batsman Virat Kohli, will warm up for the game in tops sporting the number 11 and wear black arm bands for the match. Along with the permanently empty seats, CEO Rajesh Menon said: “This is a tribute to our fans, who will always remain a part of our journey.” After the tragedy, authorities deemed the venue unsafe due to structural and crowd management deficiencies, and moved important fixtures elsewhere. But earlier this month the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the stadium would host games, including RCB home fixtures. Menon said crowd management measures have been “significantly strengthened”, including setting up AI-led cameras. “This system provides real-time alerts, including stand-specific crowd counts, to ensure better monitoring and control,” he said. The stampede took place a day after RCB won the final against Punjab Kings and returned to a homecoming trophy parade. Hundreds of thousands gathered on the streets to welcome their hero Kohli and his victorious teammates. More than 50 people were injured. Several officials, including a senior RCB executive, and representatives of event organisers DNA and Karnataka State Cricket Association, were questioned by police.No one has been convicted.
