 Qatar Museums (QM) announced Wednesday new details about Ektashif: Uzbekistan, opening on Sep. 3 at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).Featuring new works by seven Qatari artists inspired by their travels through Uzbekistan, the exhibition is organized by MIA in collaboration with Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be on view through Nov. 28.Ektashif: Uzbekistan presents new works by Aisha Al Muhannadi, Abdulla Fakhroo, Leena Al Aali, Maryam Abel, Ameena Al Boinin, The Nourah, and Hameed Al Qahtani, each of whom participated in MIA's ongoing Ektashif program (meaning "discover" in Arabic), which provides international travel opportunities to artists looking to more fully understand the diversity of the Islamic world's artistic traditions. Previous iterations of the program sent Qatari artists to India, Turkiye, Spain, and Morocco to develop new skills in traditional Islamic arts.Through visits to historical sites and hands-on workshops with master craftsmen, the artists in this year's program were immersed in the traditional arts and architecture of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara, strengthening cultural ties between Qatar and the wider Islamic world.Each work in Ektashif: Uzbekistan draws from these travel experiences, reflecting the enduring influence of Uzbekistan, a country whose Timurid monuments, ceramic traditions, and living craft practices have long shaped the visual language of Islamic art across Central Asia.Marking the occasion, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art Shaika Al Nassr said: "The mission of Ektashif is to provide Qatari artists the opportunity to engage directly with the places, traditions, and living heritage of Islamic art, which spans thirteen centuries of history and stretches across multiple continents. Uzbekistan's distinct Islamic heritage, from the brickwork of Samarkand to the ikat fabric workshops of Bukhara, is not only an essential part of this cultural past, but also a source of thriving contemporary practice. The artworks in Ektashif: Uzbekistan suggest how these deeply rooted traditions continue to animate new ways of thinking and new ways of seeing the world."

The State of Qatar welcomed the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the military institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic. In its statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described this development as an important step towards consolidating civil peace, strengthening security and stability, and building a state governed by institutions and the rule of law. It also reiterated the State of Qatar's position that Syria's stability and prosperity require the state to hold a monopoly on the use of force by having a single army that represents all Syrians, thereby ensuring the preservation of the country's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The Ministry also expressed the State of Qatar's appreciation for Syria's approach and its concerted efforts to bring all segments of the Syrian people together under state authority.The Ministry further reaffirmed the State of Qatar's full support for Syria's sovereignty and the Syrian people's aspiration for freedom, development, and prosperity.  

Qatar Islamic Insurance Group has obtained a license to open a branch in India to conduct reinsurance business.In a statement posted on Qatar Stock Exchange Wednesday, the Group announced that it had obtained a license from the authorities of the International Financial Services Center in Gift City in Gujarat to open a branch in India to conduct reinsurance business. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday.Following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated the following:At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet was briefed on the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's completion of preparations for the 2026-2027 school year.It commended the significant achievements and continued gains being made across the education sector at its various stages and levels, particularly in expanding the construction of new schools in areas of population concentration according to the latest international standards and specifications, thereby ensuring that educational needs are met and accommodating the steady increase in student enrollment.The Cabinet further lauded the ongoing efforts to promote educational workforces and bolster their performance, in addition to persistently developing educational curricula and quality education to keep pace with scientific and technological developments, contributing to strengthening the quality of education and its outcomes.As such, the Cabinet expressed its utmost hopes that the new school year would herald a new watershed moment for success and distinction amid a secure, motivating, and integrated educational environment capable of meeting the requirements of national development, in support of achieving the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) objectives and Qatar National Vision 2030.Afterwards, the Cabinet went over the items on the agenda and approved a draft bill regulating real estate tokenization and the trading of real estate tokens, along with its draft executive regulations.The draft bill, prepared by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality, Qatar Central Bank, the Qatar Financial Markets Authority, and the General Real Estate Regulatory Authority, aligns with the MOJ's strategy in pursuit of diversifying real estate products to promote investment attraction.This is alongside providing opportunities for all investors by establishing a comprehensive legal framework for real estate tokenization that defines the nature of the real estate token and the rights of its owner, regulates its trading, and directly connects it to the Real Estate Registry to ensure the security and reliability of transactions, protect investors, and ensure market integrity and transparency.This framework would likewise strike a balance between fostering innovation and managing risk, in line with the NDS3 2024-2030, which aims to provide an attractive regulatory environment for investment and develop government services and digital transactions.The Cabinet concurred upon posting the draft bill on the "Sharek" platform of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CGB) for 10 days to solicit views on it, ahead of referring it for legislative review in accordance with the approved procedures.The Cabinet further approved updating the Official Gazette system, which includes a draft bill amending certain provisions of Law No. (12) of 2016 concerning the Official Gazette, and a draft decision by the Minister of Justice regulating the electronic publication of the Official Gazette and related services, both of which were prepared by the MOJ in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, completing the legislative framework for operating the Official Gazette's independent website, in line with the objectives of the Ministry's Strategy (2025-2030) to develop the legal sector, foster judicial services, and leverage cutting-edge technologies. The system aims to provide immediate, legally authoritative publication through an approved digital platform, as well as search, notification, and verification services and access to open data, thereby reinforcing legal certainty for individuals and institutions.The Cabinet also approved a proposal to organize the authorities responsible for managing and preserving documents at the relevant entities in the country.The proposal, prepared by the National Archives of Qatar in coordination with CGB, intends to implement the best internationally recognized practices for regulating the governance of official records management and preserving the documentary heritage.This will be achieved by establishing a specialized organizational unit responsible for implementing the requirements for managing paper and electronic records in accordance with the highest standards and levels and providing technical support to administrative units within government entities.In addition, the Cabinet decided to approve a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on financial cooperation between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the State of Kuwait, and a draft amendment to the MOU among the governments of the Arab countries that are members of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.Upon wrapping up the meeting, the Cabinet took stock of four reports and took the appropriate decisions thereon, chiefly a report by the Grievances Committee of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority for the period from Jul. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025; a report on the outcomes of participation in the Fifth Ministerial Conference "No Money for Terror" and the meeting of G7 finance ministers and GCC finance ministers on the global economic situation (Paris, May 2026).This is alongside a report on the outcomes of participation in the seventh meeting of the Joint Committee on Labor Affairs between the State of Qatar and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Dhaka, May 2026); and a report on the outcomes of participation in the 79th session of the World Health Assembly (Geneva, May 2026). 

Hamad Medical Corp (HMC) will host the International Congress on Healthy Ageing and Geriatric Rehabilitation 2026 with an expected participation of more than 1,000 in-person delegates from October29-31. A premier international congress, the event is dedicated to advancing the future of healthy ageing, brain health, rehabilitation, functional longevity, and integrated models of care for ageing populations. With the theme ‘Transforming Global Care through Innovation and Function’, the congress will bring together global leaders, clinicians, researchers, rehabilitation professionals, nurses, innovators, policy makers, and multidisciplinary healthcare experts to explore transformative approaches that support: Health span, functional longevity, brain health, independence, rehabilitation, dignity, and quality of life. According to Prof Dr Hanadi Khamis al-Hamad, the conference chairperson and deputy chief medical officer – Long-Term Care, Rehabilitation & Geriatrics at HMC, the congress aims to advance a new model of care centred on ‘Functional Longevity’, a concept that reflects the shared aspiration to help people continue to think, move, participate, connect, recover, and live with purpose throughout ageing. “The future of healthcare must move beyond lifespan toward healthspan, brain health, function, independence, dignity, and meaningful living. This vision lies at the heart of this congress. This congress was created as more than a scientific meeting. It is envisioned as a global platform and collaborative summit bringing together world leaders, clinicians, researchers, rehabilitation professionals, nurses, innovators, technologists, policy makers, and community care experts to shape the next generation of healthy ageing systems,” noted al-Hamad, who is also the medical director of Rumailah Hospital and the head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Ageing & Dementia. Dr al-Hamad observed that, across the world, healthcare is entering a defining moment as populations are ageing rapidly, life expectancy continues to rise, and healthcare systems face unprecedented clinical, social, and economic challenges. “In Qatar, we are proud to be advancing an integrated transformation in healthy ageing, brain health, rehabilitation, long-term care, community healthcare services, and precision ageing models through Hamad Medical Corp and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Ageing and Dementia. The congress reflects this national journey and our belief that the future of healthcare must become more connected, more human-centred, more rehabilitation-driven, and more community-oriented. More importantly, this congress represents a call for global collaboration,” she highlighted. Dr al-Hamad is also a professor at the College of Medicine, Qatar University; assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar and a senior advisory board member of Geneva College of Longevity Science. The congress is designed as a multidisciplinary platform for scientific exchange, innovation, implementation, and international collaboration in response to the rapidly evolving challenges of ageing populations worldwide. The delegates will include international and regional faculty from leading healthcare and academic institutions, as well as multidisciplinary participation across medicine, rehabilitation, nursing, allied health, research, digital health, and community care. “No country can address the challenges of ageing alone. The future demands partnership, shared learning, innovation, and collective action. Through this congress, we hope to bring the world closer together around a common mission of improving well-being, preserving function, promoting active and healthy ageing, and building systems that allow people not only to live longer — but to continue living well,” added Dr al-Hamad.

A global alliance founded by Qatar Foundation (QF), Autism Speaks, Unicef, and the Ministry of Social Development and Family, with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO), to unite the world in advancing support for people with autism everywhere is expanding its international reach – and pinpointing a series of flagship initiatives to close crucial gaps in autism diagnosis, policy, investment, technology development, and lifelong support. The Global Autism Advocacy Coalition (GAAC), launched at a Qatar-led event at the UN General Assembly last September, is the first platform of its kind to bring together the international community to develop a unified worldwide approach to addressing autism. Following the formation of the coalition, its founding membership has grown with the Education Above All Foundation which works to ensure equal access to quality education and to harness the power of education for positive, sustainable, and inclusive change, including for the most marginalised learners; the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, a Kazakh organisation that supports projects across healthcare, culture, and education; and the Autism Impact Fund (AIF), a first-of-its-kind for-profit venture capital fund whose mission is to revolutionise the status quo for diagnosing, treating, and living with autism. Since its launch, AIF has become the global investment and innovation arm of the autism and behavioural health community, with 20 portfolio companies and two successful exits. The coalition’s focus on Qatar is being aligned with national autism priorities through its work with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, while the Ministry of Public Health serves as the member responsible for the health dimension of the coalition’s work in Qatar, including early screening, diagnosis, and clinical services. WHO and Unicef will draw on their mandates in norm-setting, monitoring, and workforce development, together with their convening and co-ordination functions and broad regional and country-level presence, to provide strategic advice and contribute to the GAAC’s advocacy and implementation efforts. The GAAC is implementing a regional approach to autism action, with the active engagement of philanthropic organisations through a ‘hub’ model. This will see QF serve as the hub for catalysing autism action in the Middle East and North Africa region, Autism Speaks — which is also the coalition’s secretariat — lead efforts in North America, and the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation pilot this model in the Central Asia & South Caucuses region, reflecting the global expansion and reach of the coalition. Together, these hubs support regional co-ordination, country-level implementation, and the sharing of expertise to scale effective autism solutions in low- and middle-income countries. A portfolio of initiatives launched by the GAAC’s members, aimed at addressing pivotal structural gaps in global autism systems, include a global index measuring each country’s progress on autism action; a shared global autism data platform; a laboratory to develop and scale affordable autism technologies; a governance body that ensures people with autism and their families have a central role in shaping autism strategies and decisions; and catalysing an effort to build care systems and the global workforce required to effectively deliver full-lifespan autism services. The establishment of the GAAC and the realisation of a truly collective international movement focused on autism action will be emphasised once again to a worldwide audience in September when the GAAC and its members participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. HE Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, said: “The remarkable progress of the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition reflects our shared belief that lasting change can only be achieved through collaboration. “Addressing the challenges of autism requires governments, international organisations, philanthropy, researchers, innovators, and people with lived experience to work together. By bringing these partners together, we are creating a platform that can accelerate evidence-based solutions, advance a human rights-based approach to autism inclusion, and strengthen support across the lifespan.” HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad al-Mahmoud, Minister of Public Health, said: “The State of Qatar is committed to advancing the health, well-being, and inclusion of individuals with autism through strong partnerships at the national, regional, and global levels. By joining the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition, we reaffirm our belief that meaningful progress is achieved through collective action, shared expertise, and a shared commitment to improving outcomes across the lifespan.” “We are building a global movement where all members are valued as autism partners and active contributors in shaping future solutions and innovations. By pairing this commitment with platforms and resource A quiet sunrise at Katara has earned Qatari photographer Amna Marafi the Tasweer Single Image Award for her photograph Like Two Ships, a contemplative image that turns a fleeting encounter between two boats into a reflection on human connection and the paths that cross in life. The photograph was neither staged nor carefully planned. Marafi came across the scene during one of her early-morning walks last winter, when she began visiting familiar places around Doha at sunrise to experience them from a different perspective. “I love walking, and I love sunrises; there’s no better remedy for clearing my head,” she told Gulf Times. At Katara, the still water, changing light, and two passing boats immediately caught her attention. “I remember thinking it looked like a portrait,” she said. The deeper meaning of the image emerged later, when Marafi returned to the photograph and reflected on the brief crossing it had captured. Its title is inspired by the expression “like two ships passing in the night”, which she associates with fleeting encounters and the unexpected ways people enter and leave one another’s lives. “It makes me think about brief encounters and the paths that cross our own; sometimes only once, sometimes without us even noticing, and sometimes leaving us changed forever,” she said. For Marafi, the two boats came to represent separate journeys that briefly share the same space and moment. She is fascinated by what she describes as “the entire constellation of events” that must occur for two people — or, in this case, two vessels — to meet at precisely the right time. The winning photograph was one of five frames she captured as dawn gradually brightened the scene. Although the composition remained almost unchanged, each exposure conveyed a different mood. Marafi chose the moment just before sunrise, when the light seemed to give the two boats an almost human awareness of each other. “There’s something about the light and the way the two boats seem to become aware of one another that feels like the beginning of a story,” she said. That sensitivity to ordinary moments that can easily go unnoticed lies at the heart of Marafi’s approach to photography. She believes compelling images do not always require elaborate preparation; sometimes, they begin simply with looking up and paying attention. “Even just looking up, paying attention, and appreciating the beauty that’s already there and not letting it pass by unnoticed, I think there’s art in that,” she said. The award has placed Marafi’s work alongside photographers she admires, but she sees the recognition less as an arrival than as an opportunity to continue learning. She recalled reading that if you find yourself in a room where everyone has something to teach you, “you’re probably in the right room”. “That’s how this recognition feels to me,” Marafi said. “It’s a beautiful opportunity to connect more deeply with an art form I love, learn from the skills and stories of others, and be part of a community that encourages me to keep looking, learning and making photographs.” Like Two Ships succeeds through restraint: two boats, shifting light and a quiet stretch of water. Yet within that simplicity, Marafi found a larger story about timing, connection and the fleeting encounters that can quietly alter the course of a life.

 Qatar Chamber acting general manager Ali Saeed Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri met with a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development and Family at the chamber’s headquarters yesterday. The delegation comprised Buthaina al-Obaidli, director of the Family Empowerment Department; Ghada al-Emadi, head of the Empowerment Section; and Fatima al-Mohannadi, Social Service Programmes coordinator. The meeting, which was also attended by Hussain al-Abdulghani, director of the Finance and Administrative Department, and Fatima al-Kuwari, head of the Training and Development Department, discussed joint initiatives to empower productive families through training programmes organised by Qatar Chamber, and the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in training and capacity building. Al-Mansouri affirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to supporting and empowering productive families and home-based businesses, as part of its role in supporting the private sector, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating new opportunities for economic engagement. He noted that many home-based businesses have developed competitive products and services, stressing the importance of creating an enabling environment that helps them grow, achieve sustainability, and gradually transition into small and medium-sized enterprises capable of expanding their businesses. Al-Mansouri highlighted the importance of training and capacity building in areas including project management, marketing and digital marketing, pricing, customer service, and product development. He welcomed cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Empowerment Department, to develop joint programmes and initiatives that would enhance the capabilities of productive families and help transform their ideas and skills into successful and sustainable businesses. 

 Qatar Charity Nepal’s Integrated Development Programme Phase II (2022–2026) demonstrates the value of integrated investment in essential services, economic resilience and emergency preparedness. With total grants of NPR1,264,255,804.31 and expenditure of NPR1,115,622,488.56 as of July 31, the programme combined long-term development with timely humanitarian action, helping vulnerable communities gain access to safer water, better education, stronger livelihoods, improved healthcare, and protection during crises. Implemented in co-ordination with Nepal’s Social Welfare Council, government authorities, local governments, community institutions and local partners, the programme delivered 3,003 development projects and nine emergency-response projects. Based on the sector figures reported, these interventions directly reached at least 119,693 people across education, livelihoods and social welfare, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health, and disaster response. In education, 126 projects benefited 18,149 people. Support included school construction, scholarships, learning materials, bicycles and laptops for students in need, school furniture, transport assistance and sanitation facilities. Together, these measures improved access, attendance and the quality and safety of learning environments, particularly for disadvantaged children and young people.A further 899 projects reached 19,647 beneficiaries through social housing, women’s livelihood initiatives, small-business and vocational support, agricultural inputs, livestock, poultry and beekeeping, irrigation, disability assistance, food aid and Eid clothing distribution. The package strengthened household incomes, food security, self-reliance and social inclusion among women, persons with disabilities and low-income families. The largest portfolio was WASH, health, and hygiene, with 1,969 interventions serving 62,837 people. Projects included shallow tube wells, deep-bore water and irrigation schemes, sanitation facilities in schools and hospitals, reverse-osmosis purification plants, cataract screening and surgery camps, health camps and ambulance support. These investments expanded access to safe drinking water, sanitation and healthcare while supporting water availability for domestic and agricultural use. Nine emergency-response projects assisted 19,060 people affected by climate and disaster risks. Activities covered heatwave preparedness in the Terai, earthquake dignity kits, winterisation assistance, dengue-prevention kits, flood and landslide response, food baskets, nutritional support and other in-kind relief. The interventions provided rapid, practical help while strengthening community resilience and complementing national preparedness and response systems. Across all sectors, the programme supported Nepal’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, health, quality education, clean water and sanitation, decent work, reduced inequalities, sustainable communities, climate action and partnerships. Through its community-centred approach, Qatar Charity Nepal translated substantial funding into practical services and lasting opportunities for underserved communities nationwide. 

 The Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) concluded the sixth edition of the "Lekhwiya's Ashbal" Program 2026, which was held from August 9 to 26, in the presence of Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Major General Staff Mohammed Misfer al-Shahwani. The programme was organised as part of Lekhwiya's efforts to instil national values and strengthen the participants' sense of loyalty and belonging through training programmes that contribute to building self-confidence, developing skills to face challenges, and dealing with difficult circumstances.
