The Youth Committee of Al Arabi Sports Club has taken participants in its summer programme on an educational journey through Qatar’s history, with a field visit to the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) designed to deepen their cultural awareness and strengthen their connection with the country’s national identity. The visit formed part of the club’s wider efforts to enrich its youth programmes by connecting younger generations with Qatar’s history, heritage and cultural legacy. Participants explored the museum’s galleries, embarking on a journey that begins with the geological history of the Qatari Peninsula, moves through prehistoric times and traces the country’s transformation into the modern state it is today. The exhibits offered the young visitors an opportunity to discover Qatar’s story through internationally significant artefacts, historical manuscripts and detailed displays depicting traditional life on land and at sea. The collections also shed light on the customs, occupations, and ways of life that helped shape Qatari society and its identity across generations. The visit provided more than a historical overview, allowing participants to engage with the country’s heritage through an immersive museum experience and gain a deeper appreciation of the forces that have shaped Qatar’s social and cultural development. NMoQ, with its world-class collections and distinctive architecture inspired by the desert rose, provided an especially fitting setting for the visit. Its design and exhibitions offer visitors a visual and educational representation of Qatar’s relationship with its natural environment, heritage, and rapid transformation. Through initiatives such as this field trip, Al Arabi Sports Club seeks to ensure that its summer programmes extend beyond sports and recreation to include learning, cultural discovery and community engagement.

The General Assembly of the Arab Camel Racing Federation (Mahari) held its meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the headquarters of the Camel Racing Organizing Committee in the State of Qatar. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Kuwari, President of the Federation, with members participating remotely via video conference.  Representatives from thirteen full national member entities out of sixteen participated in the meeting, thus achieving the quorum required for the Assembly to be valid and to exercise its powers.  The Assembly began its proceedings by confirming the validity of the invitation, the date of the meeting, and its procedures. It also approved the agenda sent to the member entities and ratified the minutes of the previous General Assembly meeting held on April 14, 2025, and the minutes of the Executive Office meeting held on June 10, 2026, according to the organizational titles in effect at the time of each meeting.  The General Assembly listened to the administrative report presented by the Secretary-General of the Union regarding the organizational and administrative actions and procedures undertaken during the previous period. It also listened to the Treasurer's report on the Union's financial status and reviewed the contents of both reports. This review did not constitute approval of the final accounts or a discharge of liability for previous periods.The General Assembly also reviewed the legal report concerning the ongoing procedures to safeguard the Union's rights and retrieve its archives, documents, and accounts, and resolved to continue pursuing legal and administrative action in this regard.  Comprehensive Institutional Amendments The General Assembly discussed the draft amendments to the bylaws, which had been previously sent to the national member entities, and provided an opportunity for their representatives to offer their comments and engage in discussion.  Following the completion of the discussions, the meeting chair put the final draft amendments to a vote as a single package. All attendees unanimously approved the amendments, without any objections or abstentions.  The amendments included reorganizing the Union's bodies and their responsibilities, adopting the title "Board of Directors" in place of the previous organizational titles, and defining the relationship between the General Assembly, the Board of Directors, the President, and the General Secretariat. The amended system also strengthened the independence of national member entities in managing their internal affairs, establishing their own regulations, forming their own bodies, conducting their own elections, and organizing their races and activities. It limited the application of the Federation's regulations to championships and activities organized or supervised by the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the system.The amendments also addressed the Federation's independence in its relations with external entities, and included arbitration proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in disputes falling within its jurisdiction. Furthermore, they empowered the Federation to develop modern camel-related sports, establish their regulations, and organize their championships.  The amendments entered into force within the Federation as of their adoption date of July 28, 2026.  Elections by Acclamation After the adoption of the amended system and the alignment of nominations submitted under the previous titles with the new organizational titles, the General Assembly verified the validity of the nominations and declared the candidates elected to the approved positions by acclamation, as there was only one candidate for each position. The General Assembly renewed its confidence in His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Kuwari as President of the Federation and Chairman of the Board of Directors, and approved the formation of the Board of Directors in accordance with the titles and responsibilities stipulated in the amended bylaws.  Following the announcement of the results, the President of the Federation issued a decision appointing Dr. Hazam Nasser Al-Muqarrah as Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Federation, and Mr. Hadef Mohammed Hamad Al-Marri as Treasurer. The General Assembly was informed of both decisions.  Admission of the Syrian Arab Republic  Under the "Other Business" agenda item, Mr. Mohammed Al-Farra, President of the Syrian Camel Racing Federation, presented the request for the Syrian Federation to join the Arab Federation for Camel Racing (Mahari) as a member.  After discussing the request, the General Assembly unanimously approved the admission of the Syrian Federation as a member of the Federation, effective July 28, 2026, and approved Mr. Mohammed Al-Farra as the representative of the Syrian Arab Republic.  The Assembly affirmed that Syria's membership strengthens the Arab presence within the Federation and expands the scope of Gianni Infantino's position as FIFA president looks untenable following his failed plan to sell a stake in ‌the World Cup's commercial rights, ​the head of ‌Europe's professional football leagues said on ‌Sunday.  Claudius Schaefer, ⁠whose ‌organisation represents 53 professional ‌men's and women's football leagues, said there ⁠could be "only one consequence" for Infantino after his plan triggered a storm of protest from regional associations.  "When I saw how this whole thing unfolded and that FIFA's key bodies weren't involved, then there's essentially ​only one consequence in any company or association," Schaefer told Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung.  Asked if this meant ‌that Infantino was ⁠now unacceptable ​as FIFA president, Schaefer said: "This is ​usually the consequence when someone in a company pushes such a business deal forward without anyone knowing about it."  Infantino said on Friday that FIFA had scrapped the plan after a widespread backlash. Regional confederations UEFA and CONCACAF said on Saturday they had lost confidence in his leadership.  Schaefer, ‌also chief executive ‌of the Swiss ⁠Football League, said the proposal suggested that ⁠FIFA's main ⁠goal was to maximise profits for third parties by having more and bigger competitions in future. "It's solely about the financial advantages; everything else is completely ignored," he said. The European Leagues ​opposed this because it would add more matches to an already packed international calendar to the detriment of national championships, Schaefer said.  "Nobody knew about the plans, not even the FIFA Council, the governing body of FIFA. I was very surprised that the president ‌was acting ​completely alone in this matter."

Qatar SC have signed Spanish midfielder Albert Ramis Luque from Muaither ahead of the 2026-27 season.In a statement on X account, the club said the move is part of its efforts to strengthen the first-team squad with players capable of providing a technical boost.Qatar SC did not disclose the financial terms of the deal or the length of the player's contract.Luque joined Muaither in the summer of 2025 before securing the move to Qatar SC.Managed by Spaniard Bartolome Marquez Lopez for a second consecutive season, Qatar SC will be aiming to improve on last season's sixth-place finish in the Qatar Stars League, while also seeking a strong campaign in the Gulf Club Champions League.   

PV Sindhu won the Japan Open women's singles ‌titles on Sunday, ​becoming the ‌first Indian to ‌claim ⁠the ‌title with ‌a 21-17 21-17 victory ⁠over home favourite Akane Yamaguchi. After falling behind early in the opening game, Sindhu fought back to take ​control and seal the title in straight games. "This is ‌what I ⁠fight ​for. The flag. My ​country," the 31-year-old said following her victory in an Instagram story. The title is Sindhu's first major triumph since winning the Singapore Open ‌in 2022. ‌It is ⁠also the former ⁠world ⁠champion's first tour-level title since lifting the Syed Modi International crown in December 2024. The victory ​provides a timely boost for Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medallist, ahead of the World Championships in New Delhi from August 17-23.

Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Mukayamna summer programme is giving children aged 6 to 16 early access to diverse sports, building confidence, healthy habits and potential pathways towards future athletic development across Qatar.The camp, organised through Pre-University Education at QF, allows young participants to spend their summer exploring disciplines including cycling, taekwondo, swimming, basketball and volleyball. The wider initiative also features the Mukayamna X Ability Friendly summer programme, placing inclusive participation within the season’s sporting activities.Abdulla Shaheen al-Kaabi, head of Sports Affairs at Pre-University Education, told Gulf Times that the programme was designed to create opportunities for children to discover activities they may not previously have tried.“We have just started the summer sports camp,” he said. “This kind of camp focuses on sport and gives our students more opportunities to try new sports.”Rather than concentrating on a single discipline, the programme introduces children to different coaching environments, physical skills and competitive experiences. Al-Kaabi said participants “come to join and explore a new sport and a new experience”, while the camp also gives them opportunities to take part in competitions.**media[469043]**He added that the broad age range is intentional. Children between 6 and 16 are welcomed so that younger participants can begin building confidence and basic sporting ability, while older students can continue developing their interests and skills.“For athletes and elite athletes, it is usually preferable to start at an early age,” al-Kaabi said. “That gives them more confidence, gives them more skills and gives them time to improve as they grow.”That early exposure can be especially valuable during the summer break, when structured activities offer children a productive way to remain active, interact with others and discover whether a particular sport could become a lasting interest, he added.**media[469045]**The programme also supports a wider national emphasis on physical wellbeing and active living, according to al-Kaabi. He said QF encourages its entities, units and departments to ensure their initiatives remain aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.“We also try to work in parallel with the Qatar Olympic Committee’s vision and strategy, which seeks to improve and provide more opportunities for our athletes and students,” he added. 

Qatar is offering its most promising athletes a route to chase a university degree and a sporting career at the same time, after the Ministry of Education and Higher Education unveiled a dedicated sports scholarship pathway under the Government Scholarship Programme. The ministry, through its Higher Education Affairs Sector, launched the new track at an orientation session for gifted students, held in co-ordination with the Ministry of Sports and Youth and attended by students, parents and representatives of relevant bodies. In a statement Wednesday, the ministry said the pathway is designed to spot and nurture national sporting talent while allowing student athletes to pursue higher education alongside their athletic development. The aim, it said, is to produce graduates who are qualified both academically and athletically — able to represent Qatar on the international stage while contributing to the country’s wider development goals. During the session, officials set out the objectives of the track, which awards government scholarships on the basis of demonstrated sporting talent. Eligible students may enrol across a range of academic disciplines at higher education institutions in Qatar, within a learning environment tailored to support both study and continued competition. The ministry also spelled out who can apply. Candidates must be nominated by the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Qatar Olympic Committee, meet the general criteria of the Government Scholarship Programme, secure an unconditional offer from a participating university under the domestic scholarship scheme, and commit to maintaining their professional sporting pathway throughout their studies.  Officials outlined the benefits on offer. These include payment of tuition fees for students at eligible private universities under approved regulations, co-ordination with the relevant sporting authorities, and access to employment-linked scholarship opportunities under existing government policies — all aimed at sharpening graduates’ readiness for the labour market. Applications for the sports track during the second admission period for public universities will be accepted through the Government Scholarship Platform between November 15 and December 30. The session gave students and parents detailed guidance on how to apply and answered questions on the programme’s requirements and benefits. The ministry said the launch reflects its commitment to investing in promising national talent and deepening the link between the education and sports sectors — helping raise a generation that pairs academic achievement with sporting excellence in service of Qatar’s long-term ambitions.
