The Shariah Unit of the Qatari Haj Mission has convened a co-ordination meeting with religious scholars accompanying 18 Qatari Haj campaigns ahead of this year's pilgrimage season.The move was part of the preparations for this pilgrimage season in terms of Dawah and guidance aspects, as well as the combined efforts the mission undertakes to provide religious support to the pilgrims of Qatar while they perform rites.Being part of the strategic plan pursued by Qatar's Awqaf Ministry, the meeting focused on advancing the guidance services provided to pilgrims and strengthening their religious awareness.Head of the Shariah Unit at the Qatari mission Sheikh Dr Mohammed Mahmoud al-Mahmoud, underscored the importance of the pivotal role undertaken by those scholars as the core pillar of strengthening the pilgrims' awareness and guiding them to correctly perform the rites consistently with the Shariah and Prophetic Sunnah.This role, he noted, would promote the true meaning of discipline and righteousness when it comes to dealing with others in times of crowds and commutation between the Holy Sites.Capitalising on these blessed days matters more as pilgrims need to multiply good deeds through supplication and reading the Holy Qur'an, al-Mahmoud urged, suggesting that they should be escorted during their commutation in multiple Holy Sites to ensure they correctly perform these rites based on the proper Shariah guidance.Al-Mahmoud further recalled that members of the unit and those Shariah scholars flanking these campaigns will be ubiquitous onsite starting from Tuesday in Mina until standing at Mount Arafat and spending the night in Muzdalifa to provide fatwas and answer inquiries inside the tents.He asserted that those scholars are mostly Qatari qualified individuals who are well-versed in Islamic science and Shariah who had been meticulously co-opted to engage in delivering religious lessons within an integrated programme that promotes Shariah awareness.The unit will operate in direct and constant co-ordination with the communication and support unit in unison to serve pilgrims 24/7, something that would help respond promptly to the emergency inquiries inside tents at the Holy Sites, al-Mahmoud assured.In this regard, al-Mahmoud urged campaign operators to persistently collaborate with those scholars in facilitating their mission to have successful guidance programmes, explaining that the tents had been equipped with all kinds of amenities.The meeting delved into the contemporary jurisprudence matters and Shariah inquiries the unit received throughout the past days, and it was agreed to unify answers provided to pilgrims in pursuit of unifying the Shariah narrative.In addition, the meeting touched on the mechanism of the pilgrims flocking through the trains of the Holy Sites, along with the criticality of assisting Qatar's pilgrims on the need to uphold the regulatory measures of commutation times.What matters most is pilgrims' adherence to the instructions rendered by the Qatari Mission and the authoritative agencies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to expedite flocking and ensure their movement flow and safety amid the large crowds, the meeting underlined.As the meeting wrapped up, al-Mahmoud affirmed that he is satisfied with the readiness level and the existing co-ordination among a variety of units of this mission and campaign operators.He stressed that what has been achieved demonstrates the State of Qatar's commitment, represented by Awqaf Ministry and the Mission, to providing top-notch Shariah care to pilgrims and ensuring they perform rites in a serene environment.

The Ministry of Culture staged the heritage operetta “Fath Al Khair” as part of the Doha International Book Fair 2026 programme, featuring nearly 100 performers and actors in a production organised by the Theater Affairs Centre and the Music Affairs Centre. The work documents the pearl-diving era in the lives of Qataris who ventured to sea to harvest its precious pearls, which were sold in global markets. The sea’s bounty formed the backbone of the Qatari economy and the entire region during that period. The operetta included a collection of traditional Qatari songs presented in interactive folk art rituals, accompanied by graphics, sets, costumes, and performances that reflected the era. It also depicted the challenges faced during the diving expeditions, as well as the social and artistic atmosphere of that historical period. The work comprised several diverse artistic tableaux, beginning with “Fath Al Khair Tableau,” followed by “The Sword Tableau,” and then “The Diving Tableau.” The operetta also featured “The Waiting Tableau,” “The Preparation for Marriage Tableau,” and “The Arabic Voice Tableau.” The performance included “The Wedding Tableau.” The operetta, which featured a women’s section, a men’s section, and a final section, relied on visual displays, sets, and costumes inspired by the ancient maritime environment, plus interactive performances and folk arts. Artist Hadiya Saeed expressed her immense happiness with the positive feedback the operetta received, emphasising that audience interaction and praise served as a significant motivator for the team after the considerable effort invested in presenting this heritage-themed performance. Artist Khalid al-Hammadi, the operetta’s narrator, also expressed his pride in participating in this heritage-themed production, affirming that presenting a performance of this scale before a number of dignitaries and public figures in the country was a source of great pride for him and all those involved in the operetta. Mohammed al-Mulla, the operetta’s director, expressed his delight at the audience’s praise and their engagement with the performances, emphasising that the positive reactions reflected the successful delivery of the heritage and national message the team sought to convey. The dhow “Fath Al Khair” is a ship, a famous Qatari heritage site historically linked to the late Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah al-Thani, and representing a living symbol of authentic Qatari maritime heritage. 

His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani held a meeting in Doha Tuesday with Ethiopia’s State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera Admassu. They discussed co-operation and relations between the countries and ways to support and strengthen them, in addition to issues of common interest.  

Ten Qatari energy shipments remain unable to transit the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Tuesday, as the waterway’s closure continues to weigh on the country’s oil and gas exports and ripple through global energy markets.His Excellency Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the suspended shipments reflect the most significant operational challenge Qatar faces from the ongoing closure even as the country’s domestic supply chains and commodity stockpiles have remained intact.“Since the beginning of the crisis, and despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Qatar’s supply chains, including for communities, have not faced any shortage,” al-Ansari told reporters at a media briefing.He noted that Qatar had maintained strategic reserves and developed alternative supply arrangements to protect domestic needs, but acknowledged that export disruption on this scale carried broader consequences.“The biggest challenge we now face, however, concerns the export of energy-related products, such as oil and gas, and the effect this is having on energy prices worldwide. We are currently undertaking special preparations, but a prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz will complicate supply chains globally,” he explained.Earlier this month, two Qatari tankers managed to pass through the strait under regional coordination. The LNG carrier Al Kharaitiyat departed Ras Laffan on May 10 bound for Port Qasim in Pakistan, becoming the first Qatari LNG tanker to transit the strait since the start of the US-Israel war on Iran.A second tanker, Mihzem, followed the next day, also heading to Pakistan, according to a Reuters report. Al-Ansari cautioned, however, that the passage of those two vessels did not signal a return to normal conditions through the strait.Tuesday’s briefing took place against the backdrop of public remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said he had spoken with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and other Gulf leaders before deciding to hold off on a planned military strike against Iran.Al-Ansari declined to comment on HH the Amir’s private conversations with international leaders but emphasised Qatar’s position had been clearly conveyed to its partners in the US.“We have communicated our position to our partners in the US, emphasising the region’s desire to avoid being drawn into a war again. Our priority is to stave off any escalation that could immediately impact the people of the region as a whole,” he stressed.Al-Ansari also lauded Pakistan for playing an effective role as a peace broker and said Qatar’s leadership-level engagement with the mediation effort was reflected in ongoing communications with regional and international counterparts.Speaking on the Strait of Hormuz, al-Ansari reaffirmed that any attempt to restrict freedom of navigation through the waterway would be contrary to international law and that Qatar does not support any arrangement that would alter the strait’s current status.Al-Ansari also addressed Qatar’s relations with Iran, saying Doha would maintain “good-neighbourly relations” while acknowledging that Iran’s conduct during the conflict had strained those ties.“The people of Iran, like others in the region, deserve to live in peace and prosperity. They should not be affected by war and conflict, as they are closely connected to the neighbouring countries across the Gulf,” he said.

The volume of real estate trading in sale contracts registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice in April 2026 amounted to QR2.062bn.Data from the real estate analytical bulletin issued by the Ministry of Justice revealed that 516 real estate transactions were recorded during the month, with the traded area index rising by 185%.The municipalities of Doha, Al Rayyan, and Al Dhaayen topped the list for the most active transactions in terms of financial value, according to the real estate market index, followed by Umm Salal, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Dhakira, Al Shamal, and Al Sheehaniya.The real estate market index for April 2026 showed that the financial value of transactions in Doha municipality amounted to QR735,181,113.In Al Rayyan, the financial values of transactions was QR512,832,178, while in Al Dhaayen it was QR498,240,645.Transactions in Umm Salal amounted to QR137,169,190, Al Wakrah recorded QR129,913,748, Al Khor and Al Dhakira recorded QR37,103,106, Al Shamal recorded QR8,560,383, while Al Sheehaniya recorded QR3,250,000.In terms of the traded space index, indicators revealed that Al Rayyan, Doha, and Al Dhaayen municipalities were the most active in terms of traded real estate spaces during April 2026: Al Rayyan 41%, followed by Doha 22%, and Al Dhaayen 18%.Al Wakrah recorded 12%, Umm Salal recorded 10%, Al Khor and Al Dhakira recorded 4% and Al Shamal 1%, of the total traded spaces.Concerning the index of the number of real estate transactions (sold properties), trading indices revealed that the most active municipalities during April were Doha with 28%, followed by Al Rayyan with 27%, and Al Dhaayen with%.Al Wakrah recorded traded transactions of 12%, Umm Salal with 10%, while Al Khor and Al Dhakira recorded 4% and Al Shamal 1 percent of the total real estate transactions.An average per square foot prices for April ranged between (516-790) in Doha, (236-495) in Al Wakrah, (371-429) in Al Rayyan, (293-503) in Umm Salal, (406-807) in Al Dhaayen, (293 -367) in Al Khor and Al Dhakira, (148-229) in Al Shamal and 211 in Al Sheehaniya.The trading volume revealed the highest value of 10 properties sold in April were in Al Dhaayen (five) properties, Doha (four) properties and Al Rayyan (one) property.As for the volume of mortgage transactions in April, the number of transactions amounted to 312, with a total value of QR7,624,101,538.Doha recorded the highest number of mortgage transactions with 179 transactions, equivalent to 57.4% of the total number of mortgaged properties, followed by Al Rayyan with 69 transactions, equivalent to 22.1% of the total number of mortgaged properties, and Al Dhaayen with 31 transactions equivalent to 9.9% of the total number of mortgaged properties, then Umm Salal with 14 transactions, equivalent to 4.5%, followed by Al Wakrah with 13 transactions, equivalent to 4.2%, Al Shamal with 3 transactions equivalent to 1%, Al Khor and Al Dhakira with 2 transactions equivalent 0.6% and Al Sheehaniya with one transaction equivalent to 2.3%.As to the value of mortgages, the municipality of Doha came in the lead with a value of QR7,262,926,802, with Al Sheehaniya recording the lowest value of QR1,200,000.As for residential units, their trading movement during April recorded 154 deals with a total value of QR283,858,876.This data confirms the continued strong growth of the Qatari real estate sector in various investment and commercial fields, thanks to the new decisions related to real estate brokerage, real estate registration and documentation, ownership and usufruct, in addition to the laws that attract local and foreign capital, which enhances its position as one of the most important components of the national economy. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change announced the launch of a new digital service for the safe disposal of electronic waste through its official website. This comes as a part of the ministry's efforts to enhance the digital transformation of its environmental services provided to the public.In a statement released Thursday, the ministry explained that the service allows individuals to submit requests for the disposal of electronic waste through the ministry’s website, in cooperation with licensed national companies that receive, transport and handle the waste in accordance with approved environmental requirements. The service is accessed by submitting an electronic request and specifying the type of waste and its location, after which coordination will be made with the competent authority to collect and transport in a safe manner. This ensures that this type of waste is isolated from other wastes and treated in an effective and safe manner. Director of the Industrial Inspection and Pollution Control Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Mohammad Ayed Al Shammari confirmed that the digital service for the safe disposal of electronic waste through the ministry’s website represents a step within a broader national path to develop waste management, moving it from traditional methods to a more organized and efficient system based on employing digital solutions, increasing community participation, and strengthening partnership with the private sector.Dr. Al Shammari said that electronic waste has become an important environmental issue, in light of the expansion in the use of electrical and electronic devices and the accelerating pace of their replacement. This calls for the development of practical solutions that help in collecting, sorting and directing them to approved routes, instead of remaining in homes or being disposed of improperly.He added that this service reflects the ministry’s keenness to transform environmental awareness into an easy daily practice, through the contribution of community members to protecting the environment via the ministry’s website. He pointed out that the success of modern environmental initiatives does not depend on the efforts of the government sector alone, but on the integration of the roles of individuals and all parties.He explained that launching this service represents an important step towards regulating the handling of this type of waste, and facilitating access for members of society to a safe and approved mechanism for disposing of unused electrical and electronic devices. Dr. Al Shammari stressed that electronic waste requires special management, given that it may contain hazardous materials, such as heavy metals, batteries, and some components that may affect the environment and human health if disposed of improperly.He pointed out that the digital service allows users to submit a request for electronic waste collection by entering the required data and specifying the type of devices and their location on the ministry's website. Then coordination will be made with licensed national companies to receive, transport and handle them in accordance with approved environmental regulations.Dr. Al Shammari stated that the ministry is proceeding with the implementation of quality initiatives that contribute to establishing a culture of sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional waste disposal methods, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, and supporting the state’s efforts to protect the environment and preserve its resources for future generations.
