Security forces and emergency teams maintain full guard

Ministry of Interior reports 8 new injuries Minor fire extinguished  in Industrial AreaPublic urged to heed early warning alerts The Ministry of Interior said Sunday that security forces and emergency teams are operating at full readiness across the country, deploying consistently to various areas in accordance with pre-approved readiness plans as the situation on the ground continues to evolve and demand a sustained operational response.In a series of updates issued throughout the day via official statements and posts on the X platform, the ministry confirmed that based on field reports and continuous on-the-ground assessments, eight additional injuries had been recorded since its last update, bringing the total number of casualties since the onset of the attack to 16.The ministry noted that the attacks had also resulted in limited material damage across various areas of the country, though no further details were provided on the specific locations or the full extent of that damage.In one confirmed incident, Civil Defence teams were dispatched to the Industrial Area after falling shrapnel from an intercepted missile triggered a minor fire in the zone. Crews dealt with the blaze swiftly and effectively, and the ministry confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries. The response was described as part of the broader, coordinated activation of approved emergency plans that security authorities and Civil Defence teams, working in close coordination with relevant government entities, set in motion to safeguard public safety, ensure the continuity of essential services, and maintain full operational readiness to address any further emergencies as they arise.On the matter of early warning alerts, the ministry was emphatic, stressing that alert and early warning messages are activated solely when circumstances require additional urgent precautionary measures to protect public safety. It called on everyone to adhere to these alerts the moment they are issued and to comply fully and immediately with any instructions they contain, describing such compliance as vital to protecting both lives and property.The ministry also issued a clear and repeated call for the public to remain indoors and to limit movement strictly to cases of absolute necessity, warning against venturing out unnecessarily while operations are ongoing.Residents and citizens were urged in the strongest terms to keep roads and access routes clear at all times, refraining from congregating at assembly points or travelling to incident scenes, so that ambulance vehicles, Civil Defence units, and security patrols can carry out their duties without delay or obstruction.The public was also reminded to report any suspicious objects or unidentified debris immediately by calling 999, and to never approach such items under any circumstances.The ministry additionally warned against the spread of rumours and cautioned that circulating images or videos depicting the aftermath of incidents could expose individuals to legal liability. Official sources, it stressed, remain the only reliable channel for accurate and verified information.Specialised teams, the ministry concluded, remain fully deployed around the clock in coordination with all relevant authorities, committed to ensuring a rapid and effective response to any developments and to safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of the entire community.

MoI: Stay indoors, avoid unnecessary movement

The Ministry of Interior has issued a series of fresh advisories calling on citizens and residents to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary movement and strictly follow official guidance amid what it described as exceptional circumstances in the region.The ministry underlined that broad public co-operation with its instructions is vital to safeguarding lives and property and to ensuring that security and emergency services can operate without obstruction.In statements posted on its official X platform, the ministry said staying at home or in enclosed spaces is a key precaution to reduce exposure to potential risks and to enable security and emergency teams to carry out their duties efficiently. It advised people to use interior rooms away from windows and external facades, internal corridors, or basements where available, and to avoid open or exposed areas unless there is an urgent necessity to go out.The public was also reminded to keep clear of glass facades and external walls, and to choose locations protected by solid walls whenever possible.The ministry reiterated that members of the public should not approach, touch or tamper with any strange or unknown objects, and instead report them immediately by calling 999, stressing that such vigilance supports a swift and safe response by specialised units.It noted that even seemingly harmless items should be treated with caution if they appear out of place or suspicious, and urged residents not to attempt to inspect or move such objects themselves under any circumstances.At the same time, the ministry urged people to stay away from accident or incident sites and avoid gathering near locations where security patrols or emergency personnel are operating, noting that unnecessary presence can obstruct operations and put lives at risk.Crowding around scenes of field activity, it warned, delays the work of first responders, complicates access routes, and may expose onlookers to danger. Members of the public were also asked to refrain from filming or sharing videos and images from active scenes.Alongside the movement and safety guidance, the Interior Ministry underscored the necessity of obtaining information solely from official and authorised sources. It warned that circulating or publishing rumours, unverified news, or material from ongoing field developments constitutes a legal violation and undermines public security efforts.The ministry stressed that misleading or false content spreads confusion, distracts attention from verified alerts and can impede the timely delivery of accurate instructions to the public.The ministry called on the public to follow updates through its official channels and other state media, stressing that any new instructions or alert messages would be issued promptly when required. It emphasized that compliance with these advisories — from remaining indoors and limiting movement, to reporting suspicious objects and refraining from spreading rumours — is a shared responsibility that helps protect lives and property and supports the overall readiness of the country’s security apparatus.

Syria detains defence, interior ministry members suspected of Sweida violence

Hundreds killed in Sweida bloodshed in JulySuspects filmed several killingsSome later confessed, committee saysDruze deaths spark calls for justiceSyria has interrogated and detained members of its defence and interior ministries suspected of committing abuses against civilians in the predominantly Druze province of Sweida in July, the committee investigating the violence has said.Hundreds of people were killed in Sweida in violence that began between tribes and Druze factions but which worsened after Syrian troops were dispatched to the area. Bereaved relatives accused government forces of committing execution-style killings on camera.Syria appointed a committee to investigate the violence on July 31. Its spokesperson Ammar Izzedin told Syrian and regional media outlets on Tuesday night that members of both the interior and defence ministries had been questioned and referred to the judiciary over their suspected involvement in abuses.Izzedin declined to say how many personnel were detained, but said they were Syrian nationals who carried out the atrocities in an individual capacity. He told regional broadcaster Al-Hadath the committee had confronted the suspects with "the video footage in which they were seen" committing abuses without specifying what they were.Izzedin said the footage was "enough" as evidence since the fighters had filmed themselves, but that several had also confessed to committing the abuses after being shown the videos."They were detained by the interior and defence ministries to be transferred to the judiciary when the investigations are concluded to be publicly tried for the crimes they committed against Syrians," Izzedin said.He told local outlet Syria TV that the committee was keen to act swiftly to arrest the suspects even as it continued its investigative work. He did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for additional comment.Amnesty International urged Syrian authorities on Tuesday to hold members of government forces accountable for extrajudicial executions of Druze men and women on July 15 and 16 in Sweida. In March, Syria's military was accused of mass killings of members of the Alawite minority, to which much of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's ruling elite belonged.A Syrian government fact-finding committee said in July that 1,426 people had died in March in attacks on security forces and subsequent mass killings of Alawites, but concluded that commanders had not given orders for the revenge attacks. It said 298 suspects were linked to violations against Alawites and 265 involved in the initial attack on security forces, and said they had been referred to the judiciary.

Directorate of Traffic extends deadline for rectifying expired vehicle status by 60 days

The General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced a 60-day extension of the deadline for rectifying the status of vehicles whose licenses have expired and exceeded the legal period stipulated in Article No. 11 of Traffic Law No. 19 of 2007. The grace period, according to a statement by MoI on X, came into effect Thursday and the vehicle status can be rectified within the given period in order to avoid the approved legal procedures.MoI clarified that this decision is based on the announcement issued on July 27, 2025, whereby the deadline has been extended for an additional 60 days from August 28. This extension aims to provide vehicle owners with the opportunity to complete the required procedures within the specified time-frame to avoid legal accountability. The grace period was announced as part of efforts to regulate vehicle status and ensure compliance with traffic laws and regulations. The ministry has warned that failure to register the vehicle within the deadline may lead to its deletion from the records of the General Directorate of Traffic. Earlier, during an interview with Qatar TV, Lieutenant-Colonel Hamad Ali al-Muhannadi, head of the Registration Section at the Licensing Affairs Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, said that there are no exceptions in this regard. “Failure to follow the rules will result in the enforcement of the law. The law applies to all vehicles,” he said, adding that innovations have made the procedures easy and the technical inspection takes 10-15 minutes.“Renewing insurance can be done online and renewal of the vehicle can be easily done through Metrash,” Lt-Col al-Muhannadi said, noting that the violations can be checked and cleared through Metrash or the MoI website.
