The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) unveiled on Sunday the details of the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work.This came during a press conference attended by a contingent of national leaders, representatives of public agencies, civil society institutions, and media professionals engaged in social affairs.The Award represents the first official national Qatari award dedicated to honoring individuals, families, institutions, and key actors who have contributed with outstanding efforts and innovative, sustainable initiatives in service of the Qatari community.The award operates within an organized MSDF-led institutional framework, embodying the values of magnanimity, social responsibility, and active citizenship that characterize the State of Qatar.The award is a national initiative that intends to build an excellence culture in social work based on recognition, encouragement, and motivation within an evaluation system and accurate judging standards that ensure transparency and credibility, said CEO of the Award Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al Ishaq.Al Ishaq noted that HE Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi issued a ministerial decision appointing the Award's vice-chair and members of the Board of Trustees, in accordance with the provisions of Amiri Decision No. 16 of 2025, establishing the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work.He added that the decision designated Khalifa Essa Al Kubaisi as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, along with the appointment of representatives from relevant government entities, namely Nasser Abdulaziz Al Mugaisib, representing MSDF; Najla Faisal Al-Thani, representing the Ministry of Culture; Fawaz Abdullah Al Musaifri, representing the Ministry of Sports and Youth; Maryam Abdullah Al Muhannadi, representing the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; Najla Majid Al Khulaifi, representing the Council of Ministers Secretariat General; Saud Ahmed Al Buainain, representing the Government Communications Office; Rana Madi Al Hajri, representing the Audit Bureau; and Al Anoud Ali Al-Thani, representing the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority.Al Ishaq further elaborated that the decision encompassed the appointment of independent members with proven expertise and competence in the award's programs and initiatives, namely Dr. Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al Ishaq, and Fahad Mohamed Al Attiyah.This falls within the framework of enhancing the independence of strategic direction and consolidating the principles of governance, reflecting the principles of accountability, institutional integrity, and proactive leadership.This decision embodies the legal and institutional framework governing the award and reflects institutional integration among national entities, ensuring sound governance, impartial oversight, and the alignment of the Board of Trustees' work with the award's objectives and national mission, Al Ishaq underlined.Al Ishaq explained that the award comprises five main categories: individuals, families, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and media, noting that the total annual prize pool amounts to QAR 2.7 million, granted to the initiatives demonstrating the greatest impact and sustainability in serving the community.The official outlined the nomination mechanism, clarifying that a select group of experts specialized in social work, community initiatives, corporate social responsibility, and community media will be engaged to nominate eligible individuals, families, institutions, and projects for the award.This process, he said, relies on their professional expertise and direct role in monitoring initiatives that have a national impact.Al Ishaq added that the specialized nomination experts and relevant entities will submit to the Board of Trustees of the award the nomination lists, enclosed by explanatory reports detailing the justifications for each selection.The Board retains the right to request any supporting materials or additional documents, or to decline any nomination that does not meet the award criteria or falls outside the approved scope of authority, he highlighted.Al Ishaq also noted that the award represents a focal point between official and community efforts, serving as a national platform to honor generosity, exchange expertise, and build partnerships across various sectors.The award's executive team will, immediately following the conclusion of the conference, engage with the specialized nomination experts and relevant entities to submit their nominations for the first cycle of 2025, he remarked.In addition, Al Ishaq affirmed that the award is not limited to symbolic recognition alone, but rather represents a national call to adopt responsible institutional practices that keep up with the nation's developmental and social transformations.He emphasized that partnerships with the private sector and media constitute a fundamental pillar in the award's success and in disseminating its messages, with MSDF playing a pivotal role in launching this Award and exercising full oversight, considering it a national initiative aligned with its mandate and role in advancing the social work ecosystem and fostering community engagement in the State of Qatar.The overall framework of the award oversees its vision, policies, and standards, ensuring alignment with national strategies and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in the areas of human and social development, and fostering the principle of the transition from care to empowerment.It also supervises the governance of the award and its organizational structure, through the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees, the approval of the executive team and sub-teams- scientific, selection and admission, media, administrative, and financial- as well as the monitoring of evaluation and verification mechanisms, ensuring the highest levels of transparency, integrity, and fairness in selecting the winners.The Ministry's role further includes strengthening strategic partnerships with government entities, the private sector, civil society institutions, and media outlets, contributing to the expansion of the award's impact, promoting a culture of excellence and social responsibility, and encouraging social initiatives with sustainable impact.The award forms part of the MSDF-led national initiatives system, affirming its commitment to supporting institutional social work, recognizing humanitarian efforts, and empowering individuals and institutions to contribute effectively to community development and cohesion.The event concluded by affirming that the Award will contribute to building a national system that strengthens the culture of excellence in social work and highlights Qatar's leading role in sustainable development and enhancing social solidarity.

The Qatar-Kuwait Trade Mission held in Kuwait has concluded with the value of potential deals exceeding QR281mn, reflecting the Kuwaiti market’s interest in Qatari products and their competitiveness across industrial and consumer sectors.This was announced by Qatar Exports, powered by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), citing the participation of 35 Qatari companies representing a wide range of industrial and commercial sectors.The mission attracted strong interest from Kuwaiti companies and served as a strategic platform to strengthen trade ties between the two countries and explore new co-operation opportunities in an active market with growing demand for Qatari products and services.The business-to-business (B2B) meetings between Qatari companies and Kuwaiti importers, distributors, and wholesalers delivered promising initial outcomes. More than 360 B2B meetings were held, and over 400 visitors attended across the two-day event.Qatari participation reflected strong sector diversity, including building and construction materials, spare parts and vehicle services, paints and construction chemicals, electrical cables, chemical products, food, plastics and packaging, as well as oil and gas and paper products. The diversity enabled Kuwaiti companies to explore a broad selection of high-quality, competitive Qatari products.The mission comes amid steady growth in economic relations between Qatar and Kuwait. In 2024, bilateral trade reached approximately QR11.16bn, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23% since 2019. Qatari exports to Kuwait also recorded significant growth, reaching QR8.2bn in 2024. This continued growth highlights strong opportunities to further expand cooperation in the future.Qatar Exports continues its efforts to help Qatari companies expand into regional markets. The mission marks another milestone in a series of successful trade missions aimed at opening priority markets for Qatar-based companies and supporting Qatari exporters through trade missions focused on networking and partnership building.The results achieved in Kuwait this year reaffirm Qatar Exports’ vital role in diversifying Qatar’s export base and strengthening the presence of national companies in GCC markets, in line with the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. 

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar Prince Saad bin Mansour bin Saad bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said that Qatar National Day, which is celebrated on Dec. 18 of every year to commemorate the country's founding by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, is not only a national celebration, but a reminder of a continuous journey of building and development.In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Qatar said that celebrating Qatar National Day is a renewal of the pledge and loyalty of the founder's principles, a strong incentive to move forward towards achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) and a more prosperous future. It is also a symbol of internal and external achievements, and confirms that Qatar is a strategic partner to many countries, foremost among them the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he added.Over the decades, Qatar has transformed into a success story and a model of modern renaissance in various economic, educational, energy, health and technology fields, resulting in major national projects such as Hamad International Airport, Hamad Port, the Doha Metro and the modern road and tunnel network that connects cities and regions with high efficiency, he noted.The Saudi Ambassador stressed that this journey confirms that Qatari citizens are a key axis in the country's development process, and a fundamental supporter of all national projects, which culminated in Qatar hosting the biggest global event — the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which has been praised as one of the best organized editions of the global tournament.These successive achievements are evidence of Qatar's ability to engage in long-term strategic planning, which is embodied in QNV 2030, representing the roadmap for achieving sustainable development, enhancing quality of life, and preserving cultural identity, he continued.In terms of foreign policy, Qatar has established its presence by adopting active diplomacy based on the principles of dialogue, mediation, and peaceful conflict resolution, he pointed out, indicating that these efforts have contributed to achieving consensus on many regional and international issues, which has earned Qatar widespread international respect.In regard to Saudi-Qatari relations, the Saudi Ambassador emphasized that they are based on a deep legacy of historical social and cultural ties. The leadership of the two brotherly countries has been keen to leverage this legacy to advance their relationship to broader horizons and a steadily positive trajectory, through the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council, which includes subcommittees and specialized working groups focused on strategic and vital sectors such as energy, investment, education, culture, and defense, thereby enhancing economic integration and policy coordination on important regional and international issues, he added.

Morocco’s ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Setri has said that thanks to the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar has succeeded in securing a prominent position on the international political map as a key, credible, and trusted partner.Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy said that Qatar has managed to achieve the highest global standards in economic, social, environmental, and human development by adopting and implementing innovative strategies and initiatives that have helped accelerate reaching goals and realising pioneering projects, including extensive urban development, a comprehensive modernisation of facilities, and a modern infrastructure of airports, ports, and advanced road networks, among other things.He said that the same level of success and excellence was achieved socially, by preserving cultural identity, empowering women, strengthening the role of the family, fostering a spirit of participation and solidarity, and enhancing healthcare, education, and cultural life, manifested in hospitals, educational institutions, libraries, museums, and others.Setri added that celebrating the Qatar National Day (QND) carries layers of meaning, being first and foremost a continuous tribute and commemoration of founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani and a recognition of his role in unifying the country, in addition to being an occasion to recall the country's achievements, which are a source of pride for all.On this happy occasion, the envoy extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to Qatar, its leadership, government, and people, wishing the country continued growth, prosperity, and well-being under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir.He noted that Qatar has succeeded in managing complex and sensitive dossiers and has mediated between parties to conflicts and wars in various regions of the world, leveraging its diplomatic and humanitarian capabilities to establish peace and reach ceasefire agreements, exchange prisoners and detainees, restore diplomatic relations, as well as support national dialogues and resolve border disputes.He also affirmed that Morocco and Qatar share firmly established and deeply rooted sisterly relations, thanks to the profound and sincere bonds between King Mohammed VI and His Highness the Amir. 

The Civil Services and Government Development Bureau, represented by the Institute of Public Administration, has launched the National Training and Career Development Plan for 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the human development system and enhance the efficiency of human capital in the government sector.On this occasion, Director of the Institute of Public Administration Maha Al Marri affirmed that the National Training and Career Development Plan for 2026 embodies a strategic approach to building human capital within the government, in line with the Third National Development Strategy, through an integrated competency-based training system aimed at achieving tangible impact at the level of institutional performance. She added that the Institute of Public Administration is working to create a supportive environment for the effective implementation of the plan, in partnership with government entities, thereby enhancing institutional excellence in the State of Qatar.The new national plan comes in response to a fundamental shift in the state's vision for training and career development. It is based on the recent amendments to certain provisions of the Executive Regulation of Civil Human Resources, and reflects a transition from training linked to job grade to training linked to competencies and their levels. This shift contributes to enhancing the effectiveness of training programs and directly linking them to performance evaluation outcomes and individual development plans.The plan is built on a competency-based professional development methodology, through flexible training programs that include in-person training and asynchronous e-learning. It also allows employees to choose programs aligned with their career paths across three main tracks: leadership, specialized, and technical and clerical roles. These tracks cover behavioral, leadership, and technical competencies across four levels-beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert-within an integrated career development framework that combines training, performance evaluation, and career planning.

The State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman signed an MoU aimed at strengthening partnership, trade and investment integration and encouraging exports between the two countries, on the sidelines of the 24th session of the Qatari-Omani Joint Committee, held during the period of Dec. 10-11 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.Representing the Qatari side, His Excellency Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari signed the MoU, while the Minister of Finance of Oman represented the Omani side by signing.The MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the areas of financing and credit facilities through Qatar Development Bank's (QDB) buyer credit program, which supports the implementation of projects included in the Omani Ministry of Finance's budget, and allows the utilization of Qatari capabilities in export and financing, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Qatari exports and contributing to the diversification of the two countries' economies.HE Minister of Finance also witnessed the signing of another MoU between QDB and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman, which aims to trade and facilitate exports between the two countries.During this event, His Excellency emphasized the importance of this agreement and its effective role, noting that the cooperation between the State of Qatar and Oman is based on a share vision to enhance economic integration.The signing of the MoUs represents a new step in the path of bilateral partnership that supports the two countries' efforts towards a more diversified and sustainable economy.The Qatari-Omani Joint Committee held its first meeting in Doha in April 1995, and its meetings have continued since then, alternating between the two countries, in order to strengthen the path of cooperation and joint coordination.

Her Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater opened Sunday the Bunyan Student Center, which is concerned with the care, empowerment and integrated development of young people based on spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and creative aspects.The opening ceremony, held at the Granada Preparatory School for Girls, was attended by a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), along with students, teachers, preachers, media professionals and social media influencers.Following the opening, Her Excellency toured the center, where she was briefed on the educational, training, and sports activities it offers. She listened to a detailed explanation of its various programs, praising the students' performance and their enthusiasm and desire to learn, and appreciating their interest in the center and the message of its programs.According to its vision, the Bunyan Student Center aims to build a balanced and conscious generation that thrives on its values ​​and skills and contributes to the advancement of its society, while its mission is to develop a generation that is integrated spiritually, intellectually, culturally and healthily, equipped with life skills, and belonging to a supportive society based on values.The center works in several fields, including the educational field to instill values ​​and build morals, the academic field to develop knowledge and skills, the sports field to promote health and activity, the cultural field to build an authentic Islamic and Arab identity, in addition to the field of life skills in an applied manner, in preparation for life and the future.In her keynote address during the opening ceremony, Consultant at the Office of HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Sozan Zaghmout emphasised that the idea for the center came after careful consideration of the reality of boys and girls in a world full of challenges, foremost among them the excessive use of technology. She indicated that excessive use of technology, despite its benefits, may weaken the connection to real life, especially building direct social relationships, and affect knowledge acquired through practice and experience.She added that the Bunyan Center represents a supportive system that accompanies young people through their various stages with integrated programmes that develop them spiritually, intellectually, culturally and healthily, provide them with life skills, and strengthen their belonging to values, so that they find a safe environment and good company that helps them to grow and contribute to the advancement of their society.She also addressed the center's work mechanism and programmes, noting the launch of its first programme entitled: "I am seven and I will pray," stressing the importance of prayer as the pillar of religion and the starting point in building a person, by instilling the love of prayer in the hearts of children and strengthening their connection with Allah.In its first day, the Bunyan Center recorded the participation of more than 500 male and female students, who were introduced to the "I am seven and I will pray" programme during two periods, morning and evening, in both Arabic and English.The programme targets girls and boys aged 7 to 8 years, where students went through seven educational and recreational stations, including: "Prayer is a gift," "purity is light," "Al Fatiha is a key," "prayer is a connection," "come to success," "the strong believer," and "my prayer mat."The activities included reciting verses from the Qur'an, explaining how to perform ablution and prayer, introducing students to the call to prayer and the meanings of its words, reciting the supplications after prayer, in addition to performing the prayer in congregation, providing each student with a prayer mat decorated with a picture of the Kaaba and with his name written on it, as well as interactive sports activities.The opening ceremony programme also included student dialogues, and the presentation of an introductory film explaining the center's vision, mission, goals and areas of work, and concluded with the students performing the prayer together in application of what they had learned.  

The theme for this year’s Qatar National Day (QND) celebrations, With You It Rises, From You It Awaits, keeps people at its centre, which resonates with the focus and success of Qatar in achieving unprecedented progress in the realms of socio-economic and human development, Indian ambassador Vipul said in a message Monday. "On behalf of India, and the entire Indian community in Qatar, I wish to extend hearty congratulations to the leadership and people of the State of Qatar on the auspicious occasion of National Day of Qatar 2025,” he stated. "Today, Qatar is well-known all over the world not only for its energy production and world class infrastructure, but equally for being a thriving hub of culture, education, learning and sports,” the envoy said. “It has built some of the best known institutions in the fields of education and culture, such as Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Library and Qatar Museums,” Vipul pointed out. “In sports, we all fondly remember the success of FIFA 2022, as we also witness the excellent organisation of the FIFA Arab Cup this year.” "The forward thinking and inclusive approach of Qatar’s leadership, focusing on technology, innovation and sustainability as part of Qatar National Development Strategy, is opening up new vistas for development and co-operation,” the envoy continued. “The year 2025 has been important in this context, with Doha hosting prolific events like the Web Summit, Mobile World Congress, and AI Summit,” he said. "Qatar’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, including its mediation efforts in Gaza to achieve ceasefire and release of all hostages, is widely acknowledged and appreciated by all,” the envoy stated. “India stands firmly in support of peace and stability in the region and deeply values the important role played by Qatar in this regard.” “The Second World Summit for Social Development held recently in Doha demonstrated Qatar’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in our global sustainable development journey,” he added. "On Qatar’s National Day, I am delighted to recall that this year has been a special one for India-Qatar friendship, which dates back several centuries,” Vipul said. “We were honoured with the State Visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to India in February 2025, during which both sides elevated their relations to ‘strategic partnership’.” "The Indian community takes great pride in being a part of the incredible journey of Qatar over the past more than five decades,” the envoy said.“I am grateful to the entire leadership and people of Qatar for the warmth and support extended to the Indian community living in Qatar,” he concluded. “As we look ahead, we wish continued success to Qatar, and look forward to being a continuing partner for peace, progress and prosperity for all humanity." 

Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli has emphasised that business integrity has become a strategic pillar for strengthening trust, enhancing competitiveness, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the private sector.Speaking at the ‘Private Sector Forum 2025’ held Monday in Doha under the theme ‘Future-Proofing Business Integrity: AI, Innovation and Global Collaboration’, al-Obaidli emphasised that integrity is no longer limited to regulatory compliance, but is a national necessity and a core driver of responsible governance and sustainable economic development.He pointed out that business integrity is built on ethical values, transparency, responsible decision-making, and effective governance frameworks, including adherence to laws and international standards, anti-corruption measures, transparent reporting, and fair dealings with partners and suppliers.Al-Obaidli also highlighted Qatar’s leading role in promoting transparency and combating corruption in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, noting that the country has established a strong legislative and institutional framework following its ratification of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2007.He also commended the pivotal role of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) in leading national initiatives that promote ethical conduct and accountability.Al-Obaidli further pointed to the launch of the National Strategy to Promote Integrity, Transparency, and Combat Corruption 2025–2030, which introduced more than 78 national projects implemented in partnership with government entities, the private sector, and civil society organisations.Addressing future challenges, al-Obaidli noted that while artificial intelligence (AI) offers significant opportunities to enhance business performance, compliance, and transparency, it also raises ethical and governance considerations that require clear regulatory frameworks. With proper oversight, AI can serve as an effective tool for risk detection, financial monitoring, and transparency across supply chains, particularly benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises.He also highlighted Qatar’s progress in innovation and AI, positioning the country as a regional hub for emerging technologies through continued investment in research, talent development, and digital infrastructure across sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, and cybersecurity.Al-Obaidli reaffirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to supporting innovation, digital transformation, and the responsible adoption of AI across industries. He noted that Qatar Chamber joined the UN Global Compact in 2020, underscoring its dedication to responsible business practices, sustainability, and anti-corruption principles. 

Qatar Fintech Hub (QFTH), supported by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), has concluded the seventh wave of ‘Demo Day’ of fintech companies graduating from its pre-acceleration and acceleration programmes.The event was attended by representatives from regulators, business ecosystem partners, and a select group of investors, financial sector leaders, and entrepreneurs. QDB, represented by QFTH, made a strategic announcement regarding the ‘Fintech Development Grant’ provided by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), and the launch of the new model of the ‘Pre-seed Investment Programme’.The event, held under the title ‘Fintech Transformed: From Vision to Impact’, reaffirmed the continued progress of Qatar’s financial ecosystem. This year’s edition, the largest in terms of participating companies, featured presentations from 20 startups enrolled in the ‘pre-acceleration and acceleration programmes.These startups had undergone weeks of thorough hands-on training and specialised mentorship, covering technical and organisational product development, navigating legal and regulatory procedures, preparing for investment, and entering and competing in the market.The seventh wave of companies demonstrated significant maturity and diverse expertise, spanning strategic areas that contribute to the future development of Qatar’s financial sector. These areas include Open Banking, Crowdfunding, InsurTech, and Emerging Tech, in alignment with the objectives of Qatar’s National FinTech Strategy and the Third Financial Sector Strategic Plan.The ‘Fintech Development Grant’, provided by the QCB through QFTH, will offer co-funding of up to QR1.5mn per company, linked to key milestones in each company’s growth journey. The grant aims to enhance technical and regulatory readiness, support product development, and facilitate market entry.QDB also presented the updated model of the ‘Pre-seed Investment Programme’ to finance early-stage companies and graduates of QFTH programmes, announcing an increase in direct investment funding to QR730,000 ($200,000) per company. This comes in addition to other high-quality support services and packages provided by the hub, most notably the opportunity to apply to the ‘Talent Community Programme’, which is designed to attract specialised talent to work in Qatar by offering premium residential spaces.The event also witnessed the announcement of the redesign of the QFTH’s operating methodology through the introduction of an applied model known as the ‘Lab Model’. This model provides a practical pathway for product development and regulatory readiness, enabling companies to transition to the testing environment (sandbox) and initiate the licensing process quickly and effectively. The hub will also hold discussion sessions with companies to better understand their needs and work to address them through an integrated support ecosystem.The success of the latest wave marks a continuation of QDB’s journey in supporting innovation in the fintech sector. Through QFTH, QDB has successfully graduated seven waves of fintech companies so far, in addition to the support it has provided through investments and financing exceeding QR73mn within the sector, whether through the QFTH or QDB’s investment arm.This reflects QDB’s pivotal role in strengthening Qatar’s position as a regional centre for fintech, based on strategic partnerships with regulators and financial and technical institutions. The momentum was further reinforced by recent achievements during QDB’s participation in the Singapore FinTech Festival, which resulted in the signing of a strategic agreement with the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) to establish a fintech centre of excellence and support in Qatar, the first-of-its-kind in the region, as well as to host an international fintech forum in Qatar in the future. It represents a significant addition to the supportive ecosystem and advanced infrastructure provided by Qatar. 

The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) held a meeting with a delegation from Syria as a follow-up to QBA’s meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who was in Qatar for the recently concluded Doha Forum 2025.The delegation was headed by Dr Hazem al-Sharaa, vice-president of the Syrian Supreme Council for Economic Development. He was accompanied by Talal al-Hilali, director general of Syria’s Investment Authority, and Safwat Raslan, director general of the Syrian Development Fund.Sunday’s meeting comes as a continuation of QBA’s meeting last week with President al-Sharaa, aimed at discussing potential investment opportunities in Syria, even as a number of QBA members have already launched concrete economic projects there in the fields of energy, electricity, and real estate.The Syrian delegation was received by QBA chairman His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, in the presence of board member Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani, and QBA members Sheikh Mansour bin Jassim al-Thani, Khaled al-Mannai, Mohammed Moataz al-Khayyat, Ramez al-Khayyat, Nabil Abu Issa, Faisal al-Mana, Yousuf al-Mahmoud, and Ihsan al-Khaimi, as well as representatives of Abdulrahman Al Mana Companies, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad al-Thani, Mekdam Holding Group, and other member companies, in addition to QBA general manager Sarah Abdallah.At the beginning of the meeting, Dr Hazem al-Sharaa stated that Qatar was among the first countries to invest in Syria, following the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Qatari Government, to place Syria on the international investment map by strengthening international relations and attracting major companies to participate in the reconstruction of Syria.Al-Sharaa noted that the Supreme Council for Economic Development aims to achieve economic stability in the country, revitalise and develop the economy, and establish a comprehensive economic map covering the entire Syrian geography.He said this will be achieved through full supervision of several economic authorities, organisations, and institutions operating within the framework of the state’s economic plan. He also confirmed that Syria will launch a completely new currency in the market at the beginning of the new year, in line with the requirements of the current phase.The council, chaired by the President of the Republic, is responsible for approving general strategies and plans related to investment. Its membership includes the ministers of economy and industry, energy, finance, tourism, communications and information technology, public works and housing, and agriculture, in addition to the head of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, among others. Several economic entities are affiliated with the council, most notably the Syrian Investment Authority, the Sovereign Fund, and the Development Fund.During the meeting, al-Sharaa focused on current economic projects in Syria that contribute to reconstruction and the development of infrastructure and vital sectors, with particular emphasis on energy, transport, tourism, real estate, health, education, and key industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals and construction materials.He also praised the significant investments by Qatari and Saudi companies in the development of power generation stations, as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding to modernise the electricity sector in general. This is in addition to the development of Damascus International Airport and the Damascus Metro project, in cooperation with Qatari and Turkish companies.For his part, al-Hilali spoke about the development of the legislative framework to attract and guarantee direct investments through the adoption of the best international laws, allowing foreign investors to own 100% of their projects.He explained that, in this new phase, the state has adopted measures to fully exempt investors from taxes in the health sector and agricultural projects related to food security, in addition to full tax exemptions for factories that export more than 50% of their production.Meanwhile, Sheikh Faisal stated that Syria represents an investment bank of projects and golden opportunities for investors. He stressed the need to develop joint Qatari–Syrian projects through the establishment of institutions specialised across various sectors, such as industrial, health, tourism, and real estate, among others, given that the state’s objective is to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth. He emphasised that the private sector in both countries can play a prominent role in this direction.Qatari businessmen affirmed that Syria is currently witnessing a major economic transformation across various sectors, noting that most of them have already begun working on productive projects in Syria. They also announced that a delegation of Qatari businessmen will visit Syria at the invitation of the Supreme Council for Development, following an official invitation from President al-Sharaa to Damascus to explore investment opportunities. 

The Qatari-Omani Joint Committee held its 24th session meetings in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman, over two days.The Qatari side was headed by His Excellency the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, while the Omani side was headed by Minister of Finance Sultan bin Salim al-Habsi.During the meetings, the committee discussed the full spectrum of bilateral co-operation between the two fraternal countries, foremost among which were economic, commercial, investment, and development co-operation. The discussions also addressed ways to further strengthen the partnership in a manner that serves mutual interests and contributes to advancing joint Gulf co-operation.In this context, HE al-Kuwari emphasised the importance of these meetings and their role in advancing bilateral relations, saying: "The meetings of the Joint Committee reflect the depth of relations between our two countries and serve as an important platform to strengthen economic and investment co-operation, develop practical partnerships, support Gulf integration, and open broader horizons for sustainable development across various sectors."In turn, al-Habsi said: "This Joint Committee represents an exemplary model of bilateral co-operation, at a time when there is a growing need to enhance joint efforts to achieve progress, prosperity, and sustainable economic and social development for our two fraternal peoples."The committee also followed up on the progress of a number of joint projects and considered a set of initiatives and proposals aimed at enhancing co-operation in the sectors of agriculture, telecommunications, transport, tourism, banking services, and education, in addition to exploring investment opportunities available in both countries.The Qatari-Omani Joint Committee held its first meeting in Doha in April 1995, and its sessions have since continued alternately between the two countries, thereby reinforcing the path of joint co-operation and co-ordination.
