Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can have his parents travel with him on India's overseas tours, the cricket board told AFP on Sunday, a day after the 15-year-old batting sensation earned his first senior international call-up.Sooryavanshi was named in India's T20 squad for the tours to Ireland and England, and the Asian Games, after sweeping the batting honours in this year's Indian Premier League.The left-handed opener is currently in Sri Lanka with the India A squad for a tri-nation series."His father will be flying down to Sri Lanka today," said Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)."Also, if his parents want to go to England and Ireland with him, then we will make arrangements for their travel. They would be his best support system."India, the T20 world champions, are scheduled to play Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast before a five-match England series beginning July 1.The Asian Games will be held in Japan in September and October.Sooryavanshi's selection follows a stunning IPL campaign for Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs to finish as the tournament's leading run scorer.He struck one century and five half-centuries during the season.He picked the Orange Cap for the leading run-getter, the IPL most valuable player and emerging player prizes.He is line to become India's youngest player, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, the batting great who made his Test debut aged 16 years and 205 days in 1989."With his performances, he has almost forced us to pick him," chief selector Ajit Agarkar said."Like everyone else that has watched T20 cricket in India, we have got high hopes of him. I think he just has picked himself."

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi swept the end-of-season IPL awards and in doing so won an SUV - but the 15-year-old cricket prodigy will have to wait three years to drive it.The Indian batting sensation plundered 776 runs at an average of 48.50 and a punishing strike-rate of 237.30 in 16 matches.On Sunday he was named most valuable player, despite his team Rajasthan Royals narrowly failing to reach the final, and he also scooped the Orange Cap for leading the batting charts.He was also named emerging player of the season, among other prizes.The boy wonder was gifted a car, a TATA Sierra SUV, which at top price comes in at Rs2.1mn ($22,000).His total prize money was over $57,000.However, he won't be able to get behind the wheel in the near future because the minimum driving age in India is 18."It feels good, but I'm feeling a little pressure because I'm here for an interview," Sooryavanshi said on winning the awards."But yes, it's a proud moment, it feels great, and I'll try to do even better next season."Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second straight title after they beat Gujarat Titans in the final in Ahmedabad.Player of the match Kohli was seen speaking to Sooryavanshi during the presentation ceremony well past midnight.Sooryavanshi struck 97 and 96 in his final two innings of this edition of the IPL, adding to the growing clamour for him to earn a maiden call-up to the senior national team.According to Indian media, Sooryavanshi has been included in a 30-member of probables for the Asian Games in September-October in Japan.

 Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lashed a staggering 12 sixes to lead Rajasthan Royals (RR) to an IPL play-off showdown against Gujarat Titans after a 47-run drubbing of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 15-year-old, who grabbed the Orange Cap for the most runs this season (680), destroyed Hyderabad’s famed bowling with an incredible 29-ball 97, around which Rajasthan constructed an imposing 243-8 in Chandigarh. Jofra Archer then produced a furious opening burst which fetched him three wickets in three overs as Hyderabad were bowled out for 196 in the eliminator. The exciting Sooryavanshi unleashed another stunning exhibition of stroke-making as he breezed past Chris Gayle’s 12-year-old record for the most sixes (59) in a single edition of the IPL. With 65 sixes so far, the left-handed opener has put Gujarat’s bowling on notice ahead of Friday’s faceoff. The winner of the second qualifier will take on holders Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad. “I think a little, not too much,” Sooryavanshi said. “Try and keep things simple. I try to play with good intent and dominate the bowlers. I want to pressurise the bowler. My focus (today) was on contributing for the team, my focus now is how to win the trophy.” Sooryavanshi warmed up with a straight six off Pat Cummins in the first over, then set about the Australian captain in his next with three sixes and a four. Three more sixes in the following over, off Sakib Hussain, took him to his half-century in just 16 deliveries and he seemed on course for the fastest IPL hundred - Gayle holds that record, off 30 deliveries - when he pummelled Praful Hinge for three sixes and two fours. Hinge, however, had the last laugh, having Sooryavanshi caught at third man to the utter disappointment of a full house. With Yashasvi Jaiswal as a silent, admiring partner, Sooryavanshi had totally dominated an opening salvo of 125, off just 49 deliveries. Dhruv Jurel kept up the charge with a 20-ball fifty, but Hyderabad fought back in the final five overs which yielded just 36 to give their explosive batting line-up a whiff of a chance. Archer put paid to those aspirations as he blasted out the prolific Abhishek Sharma off the second ball with a rapid bouncer, and even though Ishan Kishan threatened briefly, the Englishman had his number too before cleaning up Travis Head to leave the chase in tatters. When Yash Raj Punja, the leg-spinner, trapped Heinrich Klaasen leg before off an ill-advised reverse sweep, the writing was on the wall. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora delayed the inevitable, but Sooryavanshi and Rajasthan were not to be denied. “I like to be a perfectionist, but even today we should have got 260 right? But with the ball we were impressive, held our own,” Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag said. “It was a good performance under pressure. (On talks with VS) We don’t have any conversations. Just leave him alone. We give him a lot of batting practice and he does his thing,” he said. SRH captain Pat Cummins lauded Sooryavanshi efforts. “He played pretty well. A very good pitch but the margins are so small, you miss our yorker but he doesn’t miss. Pretty good wicket. We are a very well rounded team. Praful and Sakib were great. We are one of the youngest team to get into the playoffs, and the coaching team have unearthed a few gems. A few teams things have to go right to chase 245 but we lost a couple of wickets at the wrong time. One tiny bit away from being in the top two, but can’t doubt the boys’ efforts.”  BRIEF SCORES: Rajasthan Royals 243 for 8 (Sooryavanshi 97, Jurel 50, Hinge 3-54) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 196 (Reddy 38, Arora 35, Kishan 33, Archer 3-58, Burger 2-26) by 47 runs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's latest extraordinary innings was hailed by cricket greats yesterday, as calls grow for the 15-year-old phenomenon to be propelled straight into the senior India team.The teenage opener hit 12 sixes, including three in a row off Australia captain Pat Cummins, before he was out for 97 off 29 balls for Rajasthan Royals in Wednesday's playoff win over Sunrisers Hyderabad."Yeah, he played pretty well," said a shell-shocked Cummins, who was launched into the stands four times in all by the left-hander. "The margins are so small. You miss your yorker by a little bit and he doesn't tend to miss them. So, yeah, fair play."Sooryavanshi hit seven boundaries in a row to reach 97 off 28 balls. But he was caught in the deep attempting another that would have broken Chris Gayle's record of 30 balls for the fastest IPL century.On the way he smashed the West Indian's 12-year-old record of 59 sixes in a single edition of the IPL. He has cleared the ropes 65 times and is in possession of the Orange Cap for the most runs in the IPL season, with 680 at an average of 45.33.Past master Gayle called Sooryavanshi the IPL's "new six machine". "What a phenomenal player Vaibhav is. Great entertainment young man!" he posted on social media.Sooryavanshi was crestfallen when he was out. But he has a chance for more fireworks against Gujarat Titans in the final playoff match on Friday. The holders Royal Challengers Bengaluru await the winners in Sunday's final.Calls for Sooryavanshi to be fast-tracked into India's team have accelerated since he slammed a 17-ball 52 to start his IPL season. "He is the best T20 opener in the World... India have to pick him," former England captain Michael Vaughan said on X on Wednesday.India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar lauded Sooryavanshi's technique calling the innings "simply spectacular". "Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's bat swing has been exceptional," he posted. "What stands out even more is the way he effortlessly clears his front foot to make room for deliveries targeting his pads. This gives him the freedom to play his natural game."Comparison with Tendulkar, who made his full international debut aged 16, have been inevitable. But former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik warned against heaping expectation on young shoulders."What Vaibhav is doing is very special, but what I don't want the people to do is tag him as the next Sachin because he is just 15 years old," Karthik said on the Quest Talk podcats. "I think what Sachin did was extraordinary. Vaibhav's challenges will be completely different."Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag said he didn't need to offer much advice to the fearless youngster. "That's the thing we don't have any conversations," Parag said. "He likes batting. Just leave him alone, let him go and have fun."

Veteran batting great Virat Kohli and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be in the spotlight as the T20 Indian Premier League spans the generations in the playoffs beginning on Tuesday. There are 22 years between the 37-year-old Kohli, who helped power defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the top of the regular season standings, and teenage prodigy Sooryavanshi whose batting fireworks have been the talk of the IPL season. Kohli and Bengaluru will meet Gujarat Titans in the first "qualifying" play-off in Dharamsala on Tuesday with the winner going straight into Sunday's final in Ahmedabad. Sooryavanshi and Rajasthan Royals sealed the final play-off berth only on Sunday and will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday in Chandigarh, where the losers will go home. The winner will face the loser of Tuesday's qualifying playoff in the final eliminator on Friday in Chandigarh. "We don't pick age, we pick ability," Rajasthan head coach Kumar Sangakkara said, referring to the 15-year-old rising star. "All guys, young and old, have done well to drag us to qualification." England fast bowler Jofra Archer has also been instrumental in Rajasthan's campaign, scoring 32 runs and taking 3-17 in the win that saw them into the last four. Kohli, who has stepped away from Test cricket and T20 internationals, is chasing a second straight IPL title with Bengaluru after waiting 18 seasons to lift his first in 2025. "Even after all these years, it is the love for the game. I just love hitting the ball in the middle of the bat. That joy is still there," said Kohli, who is ninth on the IPL batting chart with 557 runs and a top score of 105 not out. Sooryavanshi is fifth on 583 runs with and a best of 103 off 37 balls. Rajasthan's opponents on Wednesday will be Sunrisers Hyderabad, who boast a formidable batting line-up featuring openers Travis Head of Australia, Abhishek Sharma and South African Heinrich Klaasen, who has hammered 606 runs with six half-centuries. The batting chart is topped by Gujarat Titans openers Sai Sudharsan (638 runs) and Shubman Gill (616).Gujarat won the IPL in their debut season in 2022 and if they reach the final again will play the showpiece in their home 130,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The 10-team league has staged 70 matches over seven intense weeks of action but has seen a drop in its television audience, with BARC India and TAM Sports reporting average viewership down 26 percent. But analysts have attributed the TV decline to a shift toward streaming on digital platforms rather than waning interest across cricket-obsessed India.
