The Qatar Amateur Radio Society, in collaboration with the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association, participated Saturday in the JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree on the Air – Jamboree on the Internet) event. The annual global gathering brings together scouts and guides from around the world, enabling them to connect, exchange knowledge and experiences, and develop skills in communication, technology, and teamwork. The Society participated through a radio station established at its headquarters using the special event call sign “A71AJOTA”. Speaking on the occasion, the Society’s vice-president Dr Ahmed bin Hamad al-Mohannadi expressed the Society’s pride in collaborating with the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association to organise the event. He added that the Qatar Amateur Radio Society, established on June 17, 1991, continues to promote amateur radio, train young people, develop their scientific and technical capabilities, and strengthen co-operation with amateur radio organisations worldwide. He noted that Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) was launched in 1958, followed by the introduction of Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) activities in 1996. Together, they form a global platform that brings scouts and girl guides together to exchange knowledge and experiences while encouraging their interest in science and technology. He also thanked the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association – its leaders, supervisors, and participants – as well as members of the Qatar Amateur Radio Society for their efforts in organising the event and ensuring its success. He wished the participants a rewarding experience that would broaden their horizons and help them connect with peers around the world. JOTA is a global scouting event that enables Scouts to communicate through amateur radio stations and share ideas and scouting experiences. Held concurrently, JOTI allows participants to connect using Internet-based technologies, promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange among young people while reinforcing the values of co-operation and belonging to the global scouting movement.

The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, through its Department of Mosques, is participating in the national campaign to raise families’ awareness of digital technology use.The campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), is guided by the motto that protecting families is a core and shared responsibility.  It comprises a series of awareness-raising Friday sermons to be delivered at mosques across the country through Dec 26, focusing on parental responsibility and digital safety to protect children from online risks and foster family and social stability.  This initiative broadly underscores the ironclad partnership between Awqaf and MSDF, alongside government institutions’ commitment to aligning messaging and fostering joint efforts on family and childhood issues, with the objective of creating a safer digital environment for children and supporting family stability in Qatari society amid rapid technological evolution.  Director of the Department of Mosques at Awqaf, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, said leveraging Friday sermons to strengthen digital safety underscores the fact that mosques can serve as vital platforms for fulfilling their enduring mission of raising awareness of such issues, in addition to instilling values and addressing issues affecting families and society.  When it comes to digital safety, parental responsibility matters most, as ensuring safety primarily requires continuous educational efforts to raise awareness and address the challenges posed by rapid technological transformation, Sheikh Abdulrahman underlined.  He clarified that the sermons would have a substantive impact on highlighting the roles of families in monitoring and guiding children and opening dialogue with them to ensure that technology is used safely and responsibly. Ultimately, families can remain tight-knit while navigating the digital landscape with awareness.  In addition, Awqaf stressed that these sermons convey messages emphasising that caring for children and guiding them along the right path are religious and familial responsibilities requiring the active involvement of both parents to maintain a safe digital environment at home and establish powerful shields against cyberbullying, digital exploitation, and inappropriate content.  These messages would also explain how families can contact the appropriate authorities when support is needed, the ministry said, adding that this initiative exemplifies whole-of-government institutional co-ordination to address priority social issues. This broadly aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 to build a tight-knit society capable of adapting to an evolving cultural and technological landscape with awareness and security. 

The Qatar Credit Bureau is positioning itself as a strategic national infrastructure to support sustainable economic growth, responsible lending, financial inclusion, and investor confidence through 2035, according to chief executive officer Sheikha Maryam bint Khalifa al-Thani.  Speaking in an interview published in Oxford Business Group’s ‘The Report: Qatar 2026’, Sheikha Maryam outlined a 10-year vision to build an increasingly predictable, inclusive, and resilient credit ecosystem across the country.  Achieving this strategy will require expanding the deployment of data, digital solutions, and advanced analytics, whilst upholding robust governance, privacy, and institutional trust, Sheikha Maryam stated. She stated that Qatar’s credit framework must deliver precise insights to support individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), commercial banks, regulators, and international investors.  Looking ahead to 2035, Sheikha Maryam noted that Qatar aims to establish a credit framework aligned with international best practice whilst remaining tailored to national economic goals.Addressing market access across emerging economies, Sheikha Maryam highlighted that credit bureaus play a critical role in mitigating information asymmetries between lenders, borrowers, regulators, and investors.  She noted that financing constraints in developing or fast-growing markets often stem from limited visibility or reliability in financial histories rather than a lack of commercial potential.A robust credit bureau creates essential transparency, enhances risk assessment capabilities, and enables institutions to make credit decisions grounded in objective data rather than subjective assumptions, she stated.  This data-driven transition becomes increasingly vital as financial systems integrate digital services and alternative lending models, Sheikha Maryam explained.She said broader and higher-quality credit reporting facilitates the integration of first-time borrowers and small businesses into the formal financial sector, whilst reinforcing stability and responsible credit access.  Touching upon the broader investment climate, Sheikha Maryam stressed that credit bureaus bolster overall system confidence by demonstrating reliable data governance and transparent lending practices.  This institutional transparency improves the ease of doing business by speeding up credit decisions, reducing uncertainty, expanding SME funding, and encouraging responsible market participation, according to Sheikha Maryam.  As modern financial services become more interconnected, Sheikha Maryam emphasised that ongoing collaboration among financial institutions, regulators, and financial technology firms will be essential to maximise credit information value while preserving strong consumer protections.  She noted that continued investments in digital infrastructure and data quality remain fundamental to sustaining market confidence and supporting long-term economic growth.  Beyond technical infrastructure, Sheikha Maryam identified a fundamental cultural shift required across society, moving from a culture focused purely on credit access to one rooted in responsibility, planning, and financial awareness.  Early financial literacy development across society remains critical to ensuring that individuals and businesses recognise how repayment behaviour, debt levels, and financial discipline govern their long-term stability, she pointed out.  Sheikha Maryam also stated that responsible borrowing must be recognised not as an economic constraint, but as a vital instrument for securing long-term stability and commercial opportunity. 

Doha's hosting of the 2030 Asian Games underscores Qatar's commitment to investing in emerging talent and honing their skills by providing competitive platforms that allow young athletes to showcase their potential, while opening new horizons for their development and enhancement of their performance levels. In this context, the inaugural edition of the 2026 Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Doha from Nov 18 to 22, stands out. Aimed at the 12-17 age group and held under the theme "Towards a Sporting Generation... and a Promising Future", the event serves as an initiative to discover emerging talent and encourage their participation in physical and competitive activities, ultimately helping to broaden the base of sports engagement. Speaking on this occasion, Director of the 2026 Youth Games, Hind al-Ibrahim, stated in an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Games represent a vital platform for identifying promising athletic talent by offering participants the chance to demonstrate their abilities in a competitive environment. She noted that outstanding athletes will be monitored in coordination with relevant authorities to explore how their potential can be harnessed, integrating them into training programs and future development plans, thereby increasing their prospects of representing the State of Qatar in upcoming sporting events. She explained that the organizing committee maintains continuous coordination with relevant sports federations and specialized technical committees to monitor performance, evaluate technical proficiency, and assess whether athletes possess the necessary attributes for development in shooting, archery, and padel. Furthermore, the focus on younger age groups reflects Qatar Olympic Committee's commitment to building a sustainable sporting foundation. This goes beyond merely increasing participation in physical activities; it extends to identifying promising talent, refining their skills, and providing pathways for them to advance their technical and competitive capabilities, ultimately supporting the future of Qatari sports. Al-Ibrahim noted that Doha's hosting of the 2030 Asian Games adds further significance to these efforts, as the goal is to prepare a generation of athletes with the experience and ability to compete on major stages. She emphasized that investing in talent from an early age is a cornerstone for securing a bright sporting future and strengthening Qatar's presence in regional, continental, and international events. The tournament features competitions in shooting, archery, and padel, a diverse range of sports that allows participants to test their abilities across different disciplines. It offers young talent the opportunity to showcase their potential in a competitive environment, paving the way for them to reach higher levels of athletic performance and excellence, serving as a milestone step toward preparing a new generation equipped to compete in future events. 

Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, opened on Saturday the second edition of the Mena (Middle East and North Africa) Microbiome Conference 2026 in Doha, to explore the latest advances in microbiome science and their potential applications in healthcare.Held under the theme ‘From Biomarkers Discovery to Microbiota-based Therapeutics’, the first day focused on the role of the microbiome in women's and children's health, precision nutrition, and innovative therapeutic strategies, highlighting the potential of microbiome research to improve disease prevention and treatment.Women’s and infant health was a central focus of the first day, with scientific discussions examining how the microbiome influences reproductive health, pregnancy outcomes, and early infant development.Conference co-chairs Dr Souhaila al-Khodor and Dr Annalisa Terranega presented research on the role of microbial genomics in maternal and child health and precision nutrition.Their key sessions highlighted how the maternal microbiome contributes to an infant's microbial development during the first 1,000 days of life as well as the role of breast milk microbiome in infant health and the impact of pregnancy complications on early interactions between the immune system and microbiome.“We are immensely proud to organise and host the Middle East’s first conference dedicated to Microbiome health,” they said. “Through the Mena Microbiome Conference 2026, Sidra Medicine continues to advance scientific collaboration and support research that could contribute to more personalised healthcare for women and children in Qatar and the wider region.”A key highlight of the first day was the announcement of QMicrobe, an initiative aimed at establishing Qatar's first dedicated paediatric donor stool bank for therapeutic research.The programme, led by Dr al-Khodor, will combine carefully screened donor samples, clinical assessments, advanced metagenomic sequencing, and computational analysis to identify microorganisms with potential therapeutic value.Supported through a Joint Funding Call programme by the Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council and the Ministry of Public Health, QMicrobe aims to strengthen Qatar's microbiome research capabilities and support future therapeutic development.It will also help establish standardised research protocols and create opportunities for collaboration across healthcare, academia, and biotechnology.Dr al-Khodor, who is the director of the Reproductive and Perinatal Health Translational Research Programme and principal investigator at Sidra Medicine, said: “By establishing a collection of samples from carefully screened healthy paediatric donors, QMicrobe will provide researchers with a resource to investigate microorganisms and microbial functions with potential therapeutic value.”“The initiative could support future research into metabolic disorders, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, infections, and certain neurodevelopmental conditions,” she said.QMicrobe will be done in collaboration with Dr Majdi Osman, physician scientist from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.Dr Osman’s session at Mena Microbiome addressed advances in faecal microbiota transplantation and emerging microbial therapies.He also discussed current clinical applications, ongoing research, and the opportunities and challenges involved in developing microbiome-based treatments.While QMicrobe will initially focus on establishing research infrastructure and demonstrating feasibility, its long-term goal is to support the development of microbiome-based therapies and future clinical studies in Qatar.The initiative will also help generate locally relevant research data reflecting Qatar's diverse population.Day 1 also spotlighted a new study by Sidra Medicine, investigating how the type of fat a mother eats during pregnancy shapes her child’s brain development, and whether it influences the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.The study, led by Dr Terranegra in collaboration with Oxford University's Wellcome – Shoklo Malaria Research Unit, is a result of a grant awarded to her by the Waterloo Foundation in the UK.“Neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, are a significant public health concern in Qatar, and the country has made this a national priority through the Qatar Foundation’s Autism Strategy 2025-35,” Dr Terranegra said. “Our project directly supports that strategy by addressing prevention and early identification, not only treatment, through a modifiable factor: maternal nutrition during pregnancy.”

 Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) has organised its Science Exhibition 2026-27 across the KG, Primary, Girls, Boys, and Cambridge Wings, giving students a valuable platform to showcase scientific knowledge, creativity, innovation, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning.  The exhibitions reflected the school’s commitment to developing scientific curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and an appreciation of how science and technology can contribute to a sustainable future.  The KG Wing Science Exhibition – Inter-House Competition introduced young learners to scientific exploration through colourful, imaginative projects on pollution, saving the Earth, recycling, green vision, clean environments, mosaic art, eco-friendly models, ocean life, and other environmental themes.Through their creative displays and enthusiastic presentations, the children demonstrated an early understanding of environmental responsibility and the importance of protecting the planet.  The Primary Wing Science Exhibition, held on October 4, showcased a diverse range of classroom projects.  The exhibition provided students with opportunities to explain scientific concepts and demonstrate their understanding through practical models.Parents attended the event, appreciated the young scientists’ efforts, and shared encouraging feedback.  The vice-principal and primary wing co-ordinators acknowledged the dedication of teachers and parents, whose collaboration helped make the exhibition a success.  At the Girls Wing, students from Grades 5-12 participated in the Internal Science Exhibition on October 4, followed by the presentation of selected projects at the Inter-Wing Competition on October 5.  The projects reflected scientific understanding, creativity, innovation, and confident presentation.Principal Muhammad Afzal, accompanied by the vice-principals of all wings, visited the exhibition, interacted with students, explored their projects, and appreciated their efforts and innovative thinking.  His encouraging words inspired students to keep exploring scientific ideas and pursue excellence.  The Boys Wing Science Exhibition featured projects addressing a broad range of scientific and technological themes, including environmental protection, biodiversity, robotics, smart irrigation, bioplastics, gravity, optics, DC generators, the human respiratory system, renewable energy, water conservation, pollution control, recycling, automation, and sustainable technology.  With guidance and support from their science mentors, students demonstrated how scientific principles apply to real-world challenges and practical solutions.  The Cambridge Wing Science Exhibition highlighted the application of scientific principles through projects such as Physics of Drifting, Windmills, Wind Turbines, Maglev Trains, Volcanic Eruptions, Electroplating, Sound and Vibrations, Hydraulic Arms, Solar Energy, Smart Fire Detectors, Iron Dome, and Water Filtration.  Under the mentorship of Yusuf Wasil, students confidently explained the concepts behind their models, connecting classroom learning with practical applications in science and technology.  The successful organisation of these exhibitions reflected the collective efforts of the school management, vice-principals, science mentors, teachers, co-ordinators, parents, and students.  Their collaboration created an enriching learning environment where students could explore ideas, share knowledge, and build confidence in presenting their work.  Through the Science Exhibition 2026-27, the PISQ reaffirmed its commitment to promoting scientific inquiry, environmental responsibility, creativity, and innovation among its students.  The exhibitions encouraged young learners to look beyond textbooks, ask questions, experiment with ideas, and recognise the role of science in building a more sustainable and technologically advanced future. 

Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), a Qatar Foundation partner university, has named Abdulrahman al-Hababi, Class of 2014, Alumnus of the Year for 2026.Al-Hababi is the 11th alumnus to be recognised with the award.He joins previous winners Muna al-Mohannadi (Class of 2010), Yousef al-Jaber (2007), Mariam al-Meer (2012), Dr Nayef Alyafei (2009), Mariam al-Bishri (2012), Bassam Ahmad (2011), Abeer Abuhelaiqa (2011), Azhar Khan (2013), Ali al-Dashti (2008), and Mohammed al-Shareef (2012).“Texas A&M at Qatar is where my journey began,” al-Hababi said.“When I first walked onto this campus in 2009, I came with ambition and a desire to learn; I left with something far greater, as an education, a community and a set of values that have guided every chapter of my life since then,” he said.“Being named the 2026 Alumnus of the Year by the university that gave me my foundation is deeply meaningful and grateful,” al-Hababi continued. “I accept this recognition not simply as an honour, but as a responsibility to continue serving Qatar, advancing knowledge, giving back to the Aggie community and creating opportunities for the generations that follow on global stage.”He graduated from TAMUQ with a degree in electrical engineering and joined the Ministry of Interior, where he led the LTE (long-term evolution) core network supporting secure and reliable mission-critical voice and data communications for Qatar’s public-safety agencies.Al-Hababi’s responsibilities were particularly important during major national and international events when resilient communications infrastructure was essential to public safety and operational continuity.His contributions in this area represent meaningful and sustained service to Qatar and to the development of its critical telecommunications capabilities.Al-Hababi is dedicated to furthering his education, having earned a master’s degree in cybersecurity from Hamad Bin Khalifa University and pursued executive education through the Qatar Leadership Centre.He is now pursuing a PhD at Texas A&M’s College Station campus, where his studies in machine learning, 6G communications and more are addressing challenges of global importance and contributing to the rapidly evolving international field of next-generation communications.“Our graduates are the most visible example of the success of this university and Abdulrahman embodies all of the core values that Texas A&M graduates share: Respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity and selfless service,” TAMUQ dean Cesar Octavio Malave said. “He has combined professional achievement with national service, advanced scholarship, continuing education, and loyalty to our university community.” 

For 10-year-old Jassim Mohammed al-Mosallam, a student at Qatar Academy Msheireb (QAM), part of Qatar Foundation (QF)’s Pre-University Education (PUE), it all started with a story he wrote titled Bisht Al Taer.The story inspired him to become a real-life hero and make a difference in his community.Rather than simply writing about kindness and helping others, Jassim decided to put these values into action through volunteer initiatives.His efforts earned him the Outstanding Student Award at QF’s PUE Awards, highlighting how students can turn their ideas into meaningful actions that benefit their communities.Speaking about his achievement, Jassim said: “I feel very proud and happy to have won the Outstanding Student Award. It means a lot to me and encourages me to keep working hard.”“I’m thankful to my family for always supporting me and to my teachers for believing in me and encouraging me to do my best,” he said.“I’ve learned that being outstanding isn’t just about doing well at school,” Jassim continued. “It’s also about working hard, being kind, and helping others. I hope this award is the start of more achievements, and I want to keep learning and improving so I can make my family, school, and Qatar proud.”Reflecting on how Bisht Al Taer inspired his initiatives, he said: “When I wrote Bisht Al Taer, I started thinking about how I could become a hero in real life and help others through simple acts of kindness.”“Together with my classmates, I took part in different initiatives,” Jassim said. “What made me happiest was when my friends and family started asking when my next initiative would be and saying they wanted to join. That’s when I realized my idea had inspired others to help.”Naila Ahmed al-Mosallam, Jassim’s mother, said: “I felt incredibly proud and happy, not just because of the award, but because it reflects Jassim’s kindness and his ability to turn ideas into action.”“I hope it inspires him to continue making a positive difference in his community,” she said.“Jassim’s grandfather was an important role model, teaching him kindness and responsibility from an early age,” she added. “As a family, we encouraged him to explore his abilities and take initiative, with the support of his school.”“We are proud of our students’ achievements, which reflect their ambition, determination, and ability to make a positive difference in their communities,” said QAM director Lina Mouchantaf. “Every achievement is the result of hard work and perseverance, bringing them one step closer to reaching their goals.”“We believe a school’s role goes beyond teaching. It is about discovering students’ talents, nurturing their abilities, and helping them build confidence to become creative individuals, responsible citizens, and future leaders,” she said. 

Egypt opened their campaign in the U17 Gulf Cup Qatar 2026 with a 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia at Grand Hamad Stadium on Saturday. After a goalless first half, Mohamed Gamal broke the deadlock in the 54th minute before substitute Ziad Saudi doubled Egypt’s lead in the 80th minute. Ahmed Safwat added a third in the 85th minute, while Khaled Mahmoud scored in the 96th minute and Ahmed Bashir completed the rout in the 98th minute. Later at Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium, Yemen blanked Iraq 2-0. In the second round of Group B matches on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia will face Yemen at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium, while Egypt take on Kuwait at Saud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. Organised by Qatar’s Local Organising Committee in coordination with the Gulf Football Federation, the tournament runs from October 16 to November 4, featuring 10 teams and 23 matches.
