The Health Committee of Qatar Chamber held an online video conference Sunday to discuss different challenges facing the private healthcare sector, including high shipping costs and the unavailability of raw materials.The meeting was presided over by Qatar Chamber board member Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani, who is also committee chairperson, in the presence of Dr Ghanem al-Mannai, Assistant Undersecretary for Healthcare Regulatory Affairs at the Ministry of Public Health, along with committee members and representatives of the private healthcare sector.Al-Ahmadani lauded His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for his wise leadership during the current circumstances. She also praised the reassurances issued by the Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, regarding the strategic stock of essential medicines and medical supplies, ensuring the continuity of health services without any impact.She highlighted that the meeting was held under the directives of Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani to identify the key challenges facing the private health sector and address them in coordination with the relevant authorities.Al-Ahmadani also the efforts of the Ministry of Public Health during the current period, its ongoing cooperation with Qatar Chamber, and its role in ensuring the continuity of healthcare services for citizens and residents with high efficiency.She also emphasised the chamber’s keenness to identify the challenges and obstacles facing the private healthcare sector and to discuss them with the relevant authorities to find appropriate and prompt solutions, thereby ensuring the continued provision of healthcare services with high efficiency and quality.Meanwhile, al-Mannai expressed his hope to contribute to the committee’s efforts to support the private healthcare sector. During the meeting, committee members and business owners reviewed several challenges facing the sector and proposed different solutions. 

The Qatar Chamber Industry Committee met Sunday to discuss the challenges facing the industrial sector under the current circumstances and reviewed a number of proposed solutions.The meeting, presided over by Qatar Chamber board member Abdulrahman al-Ansari, who is also committee chairman, examined several key issues related to the sector, including the strategic stock of essential goods, obstacles to the availability of certain raw materials, rising shipping costs, and the suspension of some export operations, as well as logistical challenges and labour shortages.Al-Ansari said the meeting comes within the framework of emergency meetings of the chamber’s sectoral committees, under the directives of Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, to identify the challenges facing the private sector and coordinate with the relevant authorities to address them.He lauded the state’s efforts to address economic challenges, particularly in ensuring the availability of strategic goods, raw materials, and food supplies, especially through the establishment of direct shipping lines with operational ports in the region.During the meeting, committee members stressed the importance of unifying shipping rates and providing banking facilities, including the postponement of loan installments for local companies. 

The Chairman of Qatar Chamber Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani affirmed the Chamber's commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted flow of supply chains and the availability of goods in the local market, as well as addressing any obstacles facing the commercial and industrial sectors.In this regard, Qatar Chamber formed a follow-up working team tasked with holding continuous meetings throughout the day to review developments and address emerging challenges facing the business sectors under the current circumstances.The Chamber's sectoral committees are also holding ongoing meetings to discuss challenges affecting various business sectors, with the aim of ensuring the continuity of commercial and industrial activities without disruption.Meanwhile, the Food Security and Environment Committee held a meeting chaired by Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli, Qatar Chamber Board Member and Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of committee members and representatives of 34 food companies.The meeting discussed challenges and obstacles facing the private sector, particularly those related to supply chains.In his remarks, Al Obaidli stressed the Chamber's keenness to identify the challenges facing food companies and the private sector under the current circumstances and to convey the views of business owners to the relevant authorities in order to reach urgent solutions.He also highlighted the vital role played by the private sector during crises in ensuring the availability of products and goods in the local market, affirming that it stands alongside the country with full responsibility.Al Obaidli noted that Qatar Chamber will continue working closely with relevant authorities to facilitate the supply of food products to the local market and address any cases of exploitation or price manipulation that may arise.He added that a joint committee comprising the Chamber and several ministries and government entities is tasked with monitoring prices and addressing any unjustified increases.During the meeting, business owners, traders, and suppliers discussed several challenges related to supply chains, shipping costs, customs duties, support for national products and local farms, facilitation of land transport, and the provision of raw materials and logistics services. 

Qatar Chamber, in co-operation with the General Authority of Customs (GAC), called on shipping companies operating in the country to register in the International Road Transport (TIR) system to ensure the continuity of commercial operations amid the current circumstances.  In light of the current challenges facing the country and the potential difficulties that the business sector may face in transporting goods, the chamber announced the provision of alternative solutions, along with distinguished customs facilities, for transporting goods and merchandise through the TIR system across the land border with Saudi Arabia utilising the fast track.  This is in addition to the speedy completion of customs procedures and transactions through the Al‑Nadeeb Electronic Customs Clearance System. Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani said the chamber has called on shipping and transport companies operating in the country to register in the e-TIR system to ensure the continuity of commercial operations amid the current circumstances in the country and the region.  He noted that the chamber issues TIR carnets, guarantees transport operations under the system, and provides transport operators with access to the e-TIR system in cooperation with the GAC through the Al-Nadeeb system.  TIR is an international customs transit system that allows goods to move from a country of origin to a country of destination in sealed load compartments under customs control throughout the supply chain, using a single international guarantee that eliminates the need for costly guarantees in each country of transit. It is noteworthy that Qatar joined the TIR Agreement in January 2019, with Qatar Chamber appointed as the national guarantor responsible for issuing TIR carnets.  The e-TIR system was implemented through the Al-Nadeeb system in integration with the TIR platform as of May 2025, allowing the required procedures to be completed electronically without the use of paper documents in export, import, and transit operations. The TIR system currently includes 76 countries worldwide and continues to expand as more countries seek to join. Qatar Chamber is the national guarantor responsible for the TIR system and an active member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber, in cooperation with the Community Service and Continuing Education Centre at Qatar University, has concluded the first edition of its specialised training programme for 2026 titled ‘Qualification and Preparation of Arbitrators’. The programme aimed to equip Qatari professionals and residents working in the country with practical and legal expertise in the field of commercial arbitration. QICCA vice-chairman Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani attended the closing ceremony held at the College of Law at Qatar University. Following the completion of the final stage, titled ‘Practical Mock Trial’, Sheikh Thani presented certificates to 24 trainees from various governmental, semi-governmental, and private entities. The programme comprised five stages covering key topics, including the concept and practical applications of commercial arbitration, case management procedures from the arbitrator’s perspective, and the drafting of arbitration awards. It concluded with a practical training session featuring a mock arbitration exercise involving all participants. 

Qatar Chamber recently organised a two-day specialised training course on ‘Entrepreneurship and Legal Protection of Emerging Establishments from Idea to Liquidation’.The course, which gathered several entrepreneurs, project owners, and individuals interested in establishing new businesses, aimed to equip entrepreneurs with a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework governing the establishment and operation of businesses in Qatar.It also highlighted the legal risks that emerging enterprises may face and methods to mitigate them, emphasising that legal risks do not begin only when disputes arise, but can originate at the very first stage of establishment.The programme was delivered by Abdullah al-Ajmi, an arbitrator accredited by the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), who brought extensive legal experience from both the public and private sectors to the course.Throughout the course, al-Ajmi addressed four main pillars, beginning with the pre-establishment phase. He underlined the importance of selecting the most appropriate legal structure for a business and explained the implications of each option in terms of personal liability, regulatory obligations, and investment potential.He also stressed the necessity of clearly defining partners’ rights and obligations and drafting comprehensive agreements that regulate management mechanisms, exit strategies, and dispute resolution.The programme covered key areas, including selecting the appropriate legal structure, drafting partner agreements, company formation procedures, dispute resolution mechanisms, intellectual property protection, risk management, and liquidation processes. 

Qatar Chamber recently hosted a trade delegation from Türkiye, led by Zeki Ozdemir, the chairman of the Sivas Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The delegation was received by Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari, in the presence of Abdullah Altunkum, chairman of the Turkish Business Council – Qatar, which is affiliated with the Foreign Economic Relations Council of Türkiye (DEİK).  The meeting touched on strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries and exploring opportunities for co-operation and partnership between the Qatari and Turkish private sectors in various industries, with particular emphasis on marble and natural stone.  Speaking at the meeting, al-Kuwari praised the strong relations between Qatar and Türkiye, highlighting that the country is “one of Qatar’s most important trading partners.” He emphasised Qatar Chamber’s commitment to developing cooperation across multiple sectors.  He also affirmed the chamber’s readiness to assist the Turkish delegation in identifying trading partners and facilitating entry into the Qatari market, noting Qatar’s advanced infrastructure and numerous investment opportunities in free and economic zones.  Ozdemir stated that the delegation includes a leading group of Turkish companies specialising in the marble and natural stone sectors, eager to invest in the Qatari market. He provided an overview of Sivas City and the Sivas Chamber, which was established 100 years ago and comprises a large network of companies operating across multiple sectors.  He also highlighted the significant development witnessed in the city in the fields of trade, industry, optical military industries, and tourism.

Qatar Chamber recently organised a five-day training course on ‘Certified Compliance Expert in Accordance with FATF Standards’, attracting wide participation from specialists across various sectors in the country.The course was delivered by counselor Kamal al-Awrani, a financial expert with over 35 years of experience in governance, auditing, and compliance. It covered several topics including global compliance trends, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures, the latest RegTech technologies, and the use of artificial intelligence in monitoring.The programme concluded with practical workshops designed to enhance participants’ professional competencies, aligning their skills with both international standards and local legislation. 

Qatar Chamber recently participated in the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour held in Marrakesh, Morocco.The chamber was represented by engineer Nasser Ahmed Mohamed al-Meer, adviser to the chairman for Labour Affairs. During the conference, al-Meer delivered a speech highlighting Qatar’s commitment to promoting education for all and safeguarding children’s rights.He reviewed the country’s experience in implementing comprehensive education policies and robust legislative frameworks, which have contributed to achieving a 0% rate of child labour, reflecting the strength and effectiveness of the national protection and oversight system.Al-Meer emphasised the pivotal role of the private sector in supporting national efforts, highlighting how businesses can contribute sustainably by funding programmes aimed at preventing and combating child labour. He also highlighted initiatives such as public-private partnerships, corporate social responsibility programmes, and investments in education and human development. 

Qatar Chamber hosted on Thursday a trade delegation from the Republic of Tanzania, led by Director of Business Development at Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB), Afia Mwanahamisi Siggi and Senior Investment Officer at the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), Juma Ally Nzima.During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation between the two friendly countries, particularly in the commercial and investment fields, as well as ways to enhance collaboration in agriculture and food security.The delegation was received by Abdulrahman bin Abdullah al-Ansari and Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, board members of the Chamber.Speaking at the meeting, al-Ansari stated that the Qatari market welcomes Tanzanian products, especially in the food sector, noting that the Chamber is keen to strengthen cooperation between the private sectors of both countries in a manner that enhances trade exchange.Al-Obaidli stressed that there are broad investment opportunities in the African continent in general and in Tanzania in particular. He noted that the trade balance is tilted in favour of Tanzania, as Qatari imports from Tanzania in 2024 exceeded QR126 mn, most of which consisted of meat products, compared to Qatari exports to Tanzania, which amounted to QR69mn.Siggi said that the Tanzanian delegation's visit aims to strengthen trade relations between the two countries, promote Tanzanian products in the Qatari market, and invite Qatari investors to explore investment opportunities in Tanzania. 

Qatar Chamber recently participated in the ‘6th World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum’ (WEIF 2026), organised by the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) office in Bahrain. The chamber’s delegation was led by acting general manager Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri and included Dr Mohamed Ibrahim, economic adviser to the Chamber.  The delegation also attended the ‘3rd International Forum for Social Entrepreneurship 2026’, organised by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility. On the sidelines of WEIF, Qatar Chamber and UNIDO signed a joint Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Qatar Chamber.  The LoI was signed by al-Mansouri and Hashem Suleiman Hussein, head of the Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) at UNIDO. Addressing the forum, al-Mansouri emphasised the growing role of the social economy in driving sustainable development and social impact alongside financial returns.  He highlighted that social entrepreneurship provides innovative solutions to societal challenges while promoting economic sustainability.  He noted that the social economy is a key pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, supporting social cohesion, family empowerment, and entrepreneurship, aligned with the 2024–2030 National Development Strategy.  Al-Mansouri stressed that Qatar’s private sector is a vital partner in sustainable development and that empowering social entrepreneurs contributes directly to human, social, and economic progress.  He noted that Qatar Chamber actively supports this vision by promoting responsible entrepreneurship, supporting SMEs with social impact, fostering partnerships, and providing platforms for knowledge exchange.  Al-Mansouri added that building a strong social economy requires collaboration between governments, the private sector, civil society, and academia to ensure sustainability and maximise its societal benefits.

Qatar Chamber hosted Wednesday a Russian trade delegation headed by Evgenii Bogdanov, first deputy governor of the Novgorod Region, and his accompanying delegation. The group was received by Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari, in the presence of several Qatari businessmen and representatives of local companies.The meeting reviewed economic and trade relations between the two countries and explored avenues for enhancement, while also highlighting the investment climate and opportunities available in both markets.Bogdanov stated that the Russian delegation includes several companies specialising in various sectors that are eager to enter the Qatari market and supply their products to Qatar. He noted that the Novgorod Region is located between Russia’s two largest cities, Moscow and St Petersburg, and is witnessing significant industrial development. The region is distinguished by industries, such as metals, automotive manufacturing, oil and gas equipment, food processing, and advanced technology.He expressed his appreciation to Qatar Chamber for hosting the meeting, highlighting its role in bringing the business communities of both countries closer together and supporting Russian companies in entering the Qatari market and establishing partnerships and alliances with Qatari firms. He invited Qatar Chamber and Qatari businessmen to visit the Novgorod Region to explore the available investment opportunities and meet Russian companies.In turn, al-Kuwari affirmed that Qatar and Russia enjoy distinguished relations, noting that Qatari investments in Russia have witnessed remarkable growth. There are 58 Russian companies operating in the Qatari market, either through full Russian ownership or in partnership with Qatari entities.He confirmed Qatar Chamber’s readiness to assist Russian companies in exploring cooperation with their Qatari counterparts, pointing to broad prospects in energy, advanced manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, food security, and infrastructure.Al-Kuwari highlighted the important role played by the Qatari-Russian Business Council in fostering co-operation between the private sectors of both countries, noting the interest of Qatari companies and investors in learning more about the opportunities available in the Novgorod Region.
