His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued an Amiri gesture granting a pardon to a number of prisoners on the occasion of Qatar National Day.

His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has affirmed that celebrating the Qatar National Day represents an enduring occasion in the memory of every citizen, during which the values of the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, who established the modern state on the principles of faith, dignity, and unity, are reiterated.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Sheikh Khalifa explained that this occasion is a day of pride in and appreciation for the achievements attained by the nation under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. He added that celebrating this occasion embodies the depth of national belonging and reinforces the values of loyalty and solidarity around the leadership and sincere work for the elevation and prosperity of Qatar. It is also an opportunity to renew the pledge to move forward with confidence on the path of renaissance and comprehensive development.HE the minister pointed out that the wise leadership has laid the foundations of sustainable development by following the approach of the founder, who set the cornerstones of the modern state, noting that these values have thus extended from the stage of establishment to a prosperous present. Qatar has witnessed an integrated renaissance across all sectors, from security, education, and health to the economy and infrastructure, allowing citizens today to reap the fruits of the efforts that stemmed from the founder's vision and keen foresight, he stressed.He added that the State has given great attention to the citizen as the centre and ultimate goal of development, by empowering citizens and enhancing their role in building the nation and safeguarding its achievements, affirming that citizens are aware of their history and recognise today that the prosperity and stability achieved are an extension of the founder's approach, which requires continuing along the same path with sincerity, loyalty, and dedication in serving the homeland.Regarding the Ministry of Interior's Strategy (2024-2030), HE Sheikh Khalifa explained that the strategy was formulated to translate the State's focus toward developing an integrated security system that relies on innovation and modern technology in the service of security and society. He noted that the implementation of the strategy during its first year resulted in numerous achievements, most notably strengthening security and reducing rates of concerning crimes by more than 8% compared with the previous year, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of security response across various security and service departments.He added that Qatar has topped international indicators of safety and security, ranking first in the Middle East and North Africa in the 2025 Global Peace Index, and 27th globally according to the Institute for Economics and Peace. He emphasised that this achievement reflects the advanced performance of the security agencies and their ability to maintain security and stability, which constitute the foundation of development and economic progress.He pointed out the continued development of the Ministry of Interior's digital services through the enhancement of the Metrash 2 application and its website, as well as the launch of qualitative initiatives such as the digital identity, which facilitates the public's completion of transactions quickly and securely.On another note, HE Sheikh Khalifa noted that the security leadership achieved by Qatar over the course of a full decade is the result of a wise strategic vision and sustained investment in human capital and infrastructure, pointing out that the State has adopted a comprehensive security model based on proactive prevention, strengthening partnerships between state institutions and society, and respect for the rule of law and public rights.HE the minister stated that the integrated efforts of the Ministry of Interior and the various security agencies have contributed to achieving a safe and stable environment reflected across all development indicators. He affirmed that security in Qatar is no longer merely an institutional duty, but has become a national culture in which both citizens and residents participate, thanks to the cohesion between the leadership and the people and the integration of roles among the various state institutions.

His Excellency CEO of the Qatar Free Zones (QFZ) Authority Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani said that Qatar National Day is a cherished national occasion to recall the values upon which the State of Qatar was founded, the values of faith, responsibility, and hard work, adding that these are the same principles that today guide the country towards achieving comprehensive development and enhancing its position on the global arena.Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the country's National Day, Sheikh Mohammed extended his warm congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the leader and patron of Qatar's advancement, and to His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, whose foresighted vision laid the foundations attracting investments to operating advanced industrial and technological facilities.In the aviation sector, the Safran Group opened its regional office in the free zones in cooperation with Qatar Airways, enhancing the country's capabilities in aircraft engine maintenance and data analytics.In the logistics sector, FedEx Logistics opened a new facility at the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, thus, strengthening Qatar's position as a key hub for international trade and supply chains.For its part, Alfardan Automotive inaugurated an advanced logistics centre in Umm Alhoul Free Zone.In the maritime sector, the MARSA port project in Umm Alhoul Free Zone was advanced through the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs), with Feadship, and with Marina Port Vell, enhancing Qatar's position as a regional hub for maritime services, marine industries, and luxury yachts.The QFZ also signed strategic agreements with global partners, most notably a strategic MoU with WuXi Biologics, the leading Chinese international company in biologics research, development, and manufacturing, an important step aimed at strengthening Qatar's pharmaceutical ecosystem, driving research, development, and innovation in this field, and cooperating in the local manufacturing of biologic products.QFZ's co-operation in 2025 also included signing an agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation to implement innovative projects in renewable energy and low-carbon digital infrastructure, as well as an MoU with Russia's BIOCAD to develop biologics research, development, and manufacturing facilities.At the local level, the Authority signed an agreement with Jusour to support training national talents to meet the needs of advanced sectors in the free zones.Regarding new projects supporting digital transformation and contributing to the growth of the emerging technology sector, he said that the QFZ continues to enable the state's digital transformation by developing advanced technological infrastructure that enhances the local economy's readiness for next-generation applications.The year 2025 has been pivotal in this regard, with the free zones witnessing an expansion in the presence of global and local digital companies, in addition to the growth of cloud infrastructure and data centres, he noted.The Google Cloud Center of Excellence emerged as one of the key pillars in building digital capabilities, offering specialised training programs this year in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data analytics, contributing to the development of national talent and support for the private sector.The free zones also saw digital companies such as Kingdee, Quantiphi, and Qcloud expand data centre capabilities in Ras Bufontas Free Zone, as part of building an integrated digital ecosystem that supports artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, forming a foundation for emerging technologies.Digital transformation also strengthens joint projects with Samsung C&T Corporation, which combine digital innovation and sustainability through the development of smart energy solutions and low-carbon infrastructure.Technological advancement has extended to the maritime sector, where the MARSA port project introduced advanced digital systems for marina management and marine maintenance, an initiative showcased during the QFZ's participation in the Monaco Yacht Show 2025.These initiatives contribute to supporting the implementation of Qatar's Digital Agenda 2030 and consolidating the position of the free zones as a leading platform for innovation and advanced technologies in the region.Regarding QFZ's key strategic priorities for the coming year, His Excellency said that the authority will focus on developing a more flexible and competitive investment ecosystem that supports achieving the targets of the Third National Development Strategy to reach $100bn in foreign direct investment over the coming years.The QFZ's priorities include enhancing the regulatory environment through the development of a dual licensing model, which allows companies to operate in the free zones and the local market through an integrated operational mechanism, enabling greater flexibility in expansion, production, and export.The Authority is also working to enhance its investment services by simplifying procedures, expanding digital services, and improving investor experience from establishment through to operation.As part of strengthening national competitiveness, QFZ is focusing on reinforcing economic and logistical integration between the free zones and national infrastructure at ports and the airport, creating a coherent operational network that facilitates the movement of goods and supports companies' expansion into regional and global markets.The authority also seeks to develop a regulatory and operational framework that enables investors to establish centres of excellence and research and development facilities in the free zones, in co-operation with universities and national institutions. This aims to enhance innovation, link future industries with applied research, and create high-quality job opportunities for Qatari talent.Sustainability remains a central pillar in the coming year's plans, adopting low-carbon energy solutions, enhancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, and ensuring that new projects align with the state's goals of improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.He concluded his statement to QNA by saying that these priorities aim to enhance the ability of the free zones to attract high-value investments, expand their contribution to driving economic growth, and consolidate the position of the State of Qatar as a leading global destination for investment and innovation.

The Shura Council has extended its warmest congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, and the Qatari people and residents, on the occasion of Qatar National Day, observed annually on December 18.At the outset of its weekly session, held Monday in Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, the Council affirmed that this year’s National Day slogan, "With You It Rises, and From You It Awaits," embodies the national vision that places human beings at the heart of development and reflects the pivotal role of youth in continuing the journey of building and progress. The Council wished the nation continued growth and prosperity, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir.On another note, the Council commended the outcomes of the eighth meeting of the Qatari-Saudi Co-ordination Council, co-chaired by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, last Monday in Riyadh.The Council affirmed that the meeting's conclusions reflect a shared commitment to developing mechanisms for bilateral co-ordination and expanding areas of joint work in the political, security, defence, economic, investment, energy, technology, and development sectors.It noted that the high-speed electric rail link between the two countries is one of the key strategic initiatives to emerge from the meeting, given its role in facilitating the movement of people and goods, enhancing tourism and trade, and supporting economic integration, emphasising that this project, along with the signed agreements, constitutes a significant step in consolidating the strategic partnership between Qatar and the Saudi Arabia, fulfilling the aspirations of the two brotherly nations and supporting security, peace, and prosperity in the region.Following this, His Excellency Secretary-General of the Shura Council Nayef bin Mohammed al-Mahmoud read out the agenda and the Council approved the minutes of its previous session.During this week's session, the Shura Council hosted His Excellency Secretary-General of the National Planning Council Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak al-Khalifa, to discuss a range of national strategic themes related to the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, including its developments and updates.At the beginning of the session, HE al-Ghanim welcomed Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser al-Khalifa, praising the national planning methodology adopted by the State under the leadership of His Highness the Amir.He highlighted the comprehensive framework provided by the Third National Development Strategy, which aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, strengthens the paths of sustainable development, enhances government performance efficiency, and leads to the achievement of balanced economic and social development.His Excellency affirmed the Council's commitment to continuously monitoring the implementation phases of the National Strategy and supporting efforts aimed at developing policies and enhancing the efficiency of programmes to meet the aspirations of Qatari society.At the beginning of his presentation, the Secretary-General of the National Planning Council delivered a detailed briefing on the pillars of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, explaining that it was built on a comprehensive assessment of national challenges and an in-depth analysis of regional and global changes. He noted that the strategy is based on seven main national outcomes, including sustainable economic growth, fiscal sustainability, a future-ready workforce, a cohesive society, quality of life, environmental sustainability, and high-performing government institutions.He highlighted the importance of the the data ecosystem, stressing that the establishment of an integrated central database represents a national priority in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir.He explained that work is underway to standardise definitions, classify terminology, and enhance data maturity. This will support decision-making, reduce duplication, save time and effort, and strengthen the reliability of national and international indicators.He further noted that the strategy aims to promote sustainable economic growth by diversifying income sources, increasing productivity, developing an attractive investment environment, and enhancing the competitiveness of economic sectors, thereby contributing to economic stability and building a solid development foundation. He also underscored the importance of achieving fiscal sustainability through improving the efficiency of public spending, entrenching the principles of fiscal discipline, and developing innovative mechanisms to finance development programmes.On the human and social front, the Secretary-General of the National Planning Council emphasised enhancing the readiness of the workforce for the future through the development of national skills, empowerment of Qatari competencies, and modernisation of education and training policies in line with the needs of the future labour market.He also addressed efforts to strengthen social cohesion and improve quality of life through projects targeting health, services, and social welfare, while ensuring a safe and stable living environment for all members of society.Within the sustainability pillar, he reviewed efforts related to environmental sustainability, including the protection of natural resources, development of energy and water policies, enhancement of climate change adaptation, and support for innovation in environmental solutions.He explained that building distinguished government institutions depends on improving the governance and transparency system, developing government processes, and expanding the use of modern technology.With regard to the integrated national data ecosystem, he explained that it constitutes a fundamental pillar for planning and decision-making by unifying data sources, enhancing data quality, and improving data-sharing mechanisms among various government entities, thereby enabling accurate monitoring of national performance indicators.He also addressed developments related to population policy, including managing population growth, achieving a balanced demographic structure, and meeting the country's future development needs.Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser al-Khalifa, further discussed the important role of innovation and digital transformation in accelerating the implementation of government programmes, improving service efficiency, and enhancing the country's readiness for rapid global changes.As for the future outlook, he explained that the strategy relies on future forecasting models to ensure the country's ability to address changes and guide policies towards the best possible outcomes.He also pointed out that the monitoring and evaluation mechanisms adopted by the strategy rely on precise performance indicators and periodic reviews, allowing for flexibility in adjustment and improvement, and supporting transparency and accountability through the active participation of government entities and civil society. He highlighted an e-platform launched in this context to monitor the project lifecycle, collection of data, and to prepare periodic reports, including quarterly and annual reports. Furthermore, the platform utilises artificial intelligence applications in performance analysis and measuring the economic, social, and environmental impact of initiatives.Members of the Council, in their interventions, expressed their appreciation for the detailed presentation delivered by the Secretary-General of the National Planning Council, underscoring the importance of aligning the strategy’s programmes with the real needs of the community.The Council members also stressed the importance of strengthening institutional integration among government entities, unifying the data system, accelerating digital transformation, ensuring that development policies are aligned with community needs, and measuring the actual impact of projects and initiatives. They emphasised the necessity of enhancing implementation efficiency, strengthening governance, and expanding community participation.The discussions also focused on population policy issues, preserving national identity, developing government services, improving labour market efficiency, and ensuring a balance between economic and social development. They further addressed the need to enhance the capacity of executive entities to implement initiatives within specified timelines and to achieve integration among government sectors to avoid overlapping roles and improve spending efficiency.Council members emphasised the importance of ensuring that the strategy takes into account rapid future changes, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and modern technologies, and the resulting need to develop national skills and create new job opportunities.Members of the Shura Council called for strengthening governance and transparency in project implementation, ensuring the publication of periodic progress reports, and emphasising the need to involve the private sector and civil society in the design and implementation phases of initiatives, recognising them as key partners in economic and social development, thus contributing to more effective and sustainable outcomes.At the conclusion, Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa, expressed his appreciation for the observations raised by Their Excellencies the Council members, affirming that all views and proposals would be taken into consideration within the follow-up processes and updates related to the Third National Development Strategy.HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim and the es His Excellency the Governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud al-Thani said that Qatar's National Day, which falls on December 18 of every year, is an opportunity to renew belonging, loyalty and allegiance to the homeland and the wise leadership, and to express pride in the national identity.In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, HE the QCB Governor said that celebrating this day embodies the spirit of national unity and commemorates the state's founding, as well as those who shaped Qatar's renaissance, pointing out that it is also an affirmation of the country's commitment to the fundamental principles and values upon which it was founded.HE the QCB Governor highlighted the outstanding achievements that have been accomplished under the wise leadership and vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, which enabled Qatar to occupy an advanced position on the regional and global level. This has been proved by international organisations and institutions that praised the humanitarian and civilisational role played by the State of Qatar in the region and the world as a whole, which is considered a true source of pride.His Excellency praised the noble meanings reflected in Qatar National Day's 2025 slogan 'With You It Rises, From You It Awaits,' drawn from a speech delivered by His Highness the Amir during his 2016 visit to Qatar University, during which His Highness indicated that Qatar prospers through its people and relies on them to continue growing. His Excellency noted that the slogan affirms the value of Qatari citizens and their role in building the country, encouraging them to continue their journey towards development by giving and serving the community.He pointed out that QCB's achievements are in line with the National Day slogan, which affirms that the State of Qatar's renaissance is built by its people, expecting more creativity and innovation from them. He highlighted the bank's keenness to invest in Qatari talents, recognising the value of human resources in achieving economic development, noting that Qatari talents and competencies constitute one of the supporting pillars of the third strategy for the financial sector, and are given the highest priority to create a banking generation of citizens capable of creativity, innovation, and leading the banking and financial sector.He stressed that celebrating Qatar's National Day reflects the country's connection to its past and its historical and cultural identity, as recalls the sacrifices made by its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, the honourable people of Qatar and the leaders who followed the founder, noting that it is they who laid the foundations of the modern state, and achieved accomplishments that link the past with the present, which are commemorated on Qatar National Day.Regarding QCB's achievements for this year, HE the QCB Governor said that 2025 was full of accomplishments that brought about a qualitative leap in the financial sector, in line with the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). Significant progress has been made in implementing the strategic objectives outlined in the Third Financial Sector Strategy, QCB's 2024-2030 Strategy, the FinTech Strategy, and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy for the Financial Sector, he added.HE the Governor of QCB indicated that several pioneering initiatives were implemented, including the issuance of instructions for the establishment and operation of a real estate development escrow account, as well as instructions for data processing and protection, the issuance of a sustainable finance framework, and the issuance of a circular on financial services for customers with disabilities and the elderly, in addition to the issuance of a circular announcing a change in the fifth issue of the Riyal banknotes in accordance with the laws in force in the State of Qatar.The first auction within the distributors framework was successfully executed, resulting in the issuance of government bonds and sukuk denominated in local currency on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, he continued, adding that the second phase of the primary distributors framework was also successfully implemented through secondary market trading and the listing of Ijara sukuk, following the highly successful launch of the first phase in January 2025.As part of the bank's commitment to supporting emerging national companies in the field of financial technology, which contributes to building an advanced digital financial and banking system, QCB continued to grant licenses to financial technology companies to conduct their services. By the end of September 2025, the number of licensed companies in this field reached 14 companies subject to the supervision and control of QCB in the financial technology sector, in addition to granting approval to several companies to join the regulatory sandbox and the accelerated regulatory sandbox, he added.His Excellency also pointed out that, as part of the bank's commitment to providing effective initiatives that utilise modern technologies such as digitalisation and artificial intelligence, QCB has worked to facilitate transactions and bring basic financial services closer to all segments of society, thereby enhancing financial inclusion in the country. For example, the Apple Pay service was launched for 'Himyan' cardholders, in addition to collaborating with Qatar Airways' Privilege Club to provide a more distinctive experience for Himyan cardholders, enabling them to benefit from the club's advantages, such as earning 'Avios' points when using Himyan cards for their daily purchases, he further explained.He noted the continued growth of international reserves and foreign currency liquidity at QCB, which reached approximately QR261.1bn in September 2025, registering a growth rate of 3.1% compared to September 2024.QCB's total official reserves also reached approximately QR201.5bn in September 2025, with a growth rate of 3.7% compared to September 2024, while the total assets of commercial banks reached approximately QR2.15tn in September 2025, representing a growth rate of 6.2% compared to September 2024, he added.He concluded his statements to QNA by emphasising that the bank continues its work in accordance with the strategies and objectives set to enhance the sustainability of the financial sector, increase its resilience, and support stability, thereby contributing to diversification and innovation, supporting financial inclusion, and excellence in banking and financial practices through pioneering future initiatives and projects that will contribute to supporting the digital transformation of the financial sector. 

Romania’s ambassador to Qatar Daniel Tanase has said that Qatar National Day (QND) is an occasion of profound national pride, unity, and reflection, honouring the country's history and culture, while looking toward the future.Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy said that the National Day represents a moment of patriotic gratitude, marking Qatar's remarkable journey toward prosperity and global influence.He noted that the occasion celebrates national unity, visionary leadership, and the values of loyalty, solidarity, and resilience that define the Qatari identity.It also serves, Tanase added, as a reminder of the sacrifices of past generations and the vision that continues to guide the nation's development.He praised Qatar's diplomatic and political approach, describing it as highly effective at both regional and international levels, driven by a firm commitment to dialogue and constructive engagement, adding that the State has positioned itself as a genuine bridge-builder by maintaining direct and open channels of communication with a wide range of parties.On Qatar-Romania relations, Tanase stressed that bilateral ties have witnessed strong momentum in recent years, supported by regular consultations, a well-developed legal framework in many areas of mutual interest, and a strong will to further develop and enhance the bilateral cooperation in sectors like economy, education and culture, health, agriculture, energy, transport, infrastructure, tourism, sports and many more.He noted that the two countries are marking 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
