All members of the medical unit personnel escorting the Qatari Haj Mission have arrived in Makkah Al Mukarramah, the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs confirmed yesterday. The ministry added that the move is part of the comprehensive preparations the mission is undertaking to provide integrated healthcare for the pilgrims of Qatar throughout this season, to ensure their safety and enhancement and help them perform pilgrimage rites in a secure and serene atmosphere. The preparations are generally part of the unwavering efforts Qatar is undertaking to provide the best medical services for the pilgrims and prop up the combined efforts among the state institutions. The purpose is to unify efforts and ensure pilgrims enjoy comprehensive healthcare starting from their arrival in Makkah Al Mukarramah until their safe return back home, the ministry asserted. The mission’s medical services unit has confirmed that it is fully ready for this pilgrimage season through leveraging a system of combined efforts between Awqaf, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC). This collaboration overtly embodies the integration among the nation’s institutions and their continuous co-ordination to provide the highest standards of healthcare and medical services for pilgrims of Qatar to ensure they perform rites in a secure and healthy environment where tranquillity prevails, the ministry noted. Dr Khalid Abdul Hadi, Head of the Medical Unit at the mission, stressed that the overriding priority entails the safety of the pilgrims, revealing that the country has leveraged all potential and deployed qualified medical personnel to ensure the well-being of pilgrims throughout this pilgrimage journey. The unit undertakes a national and humanitarian responsibility as the primary health defence line whose role goes beyond medical treatment to encompass prevention, monitoring, and rapid intervention, Dr Abdul Hadi noted, emphasising that the unit operates fully in unison with relevant health entities at home and in Saudi Arabia. Abdul Hadi recalled that this year the mission is escorted by an integrated 36 medical personnel, namely physicians and specialists in the areas of family medicine, contingencies, and epidemiology, alongside all medical teams who operate 24/7 to instantly serve pilgrims in all areas where they stay. The mission includes pharmacy officials, nursing officials, and technical staff, who arrived early in Makkah Al Mukarramah, Dr Abdul Hadi said. He added that they are embarking on finalising the technical and technological equipment inside clinics in close co-ordination with the relevant health entities in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure all medical services are in place ahead of pilgrims’ arrival. Dr Hadi pointed out that the health system includes the establishment of integrated medical clinics for both men and women at the mission’s premises in Makkah Al Mukarramah, alongside other clinics in the Holy Sites in Mina and Arafat, and a chamber dedicated to medical observation and isolation for cases that require medical intervention. A fully equipped medical team is escorting the pilgrims in Muzdalifah, he said, adding that this will ensure the continuation of healthcare in all phases of their commutation and performance of rituals. He added that the clinics were equipped with a full range of medications, treatments, and essential medical supplies, in addition to triage and rapid assessment units, enabling medical teams to provide immediatecare for various medical conditions in accordance with the highest approved medical standards. The medical unit also provided a fully equipped ambulance operating to advanced medical specifications to accompany the mission throughout the Hajj season, supporting rapid emergency response and strengthening the healthcare safety system for pilgrims. The mission confirmed that the unit’s operational plan isn’t confined to clinic operations or residential facilities, but also includes escorting the pilgrims throughout all stages of the Hajj rituals, including the movement from Arafat, overnight stay in Muzdalifah, and the transfer to Mina for the stoning of Jamarat Al Aqaba, in order to ensure rapid medical intervention and the timely delivery of emergency medical care. As part of efforts to strengthen medical response capabilities, Dr Hadi revealed that collaboration is underway with Makkah Park Clinics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide emergency treatment services for pilgrims of Qatar and grant them treatment priority, in addition to leveraging specialised medical expertise within the unit’s medical teams. Dr Hadi recalled the agreement forged with the Saudi German Hospital in Makkah for the observation and treatment of emergency medical cases, thereby strengthening the efficiency of healthcare services provided to pilgrims and ensuring advanced levels of medical care. Over the past few days, the clinics of the unit at the premises of the Qatari Haj Mission in Makkah obtained official licensing approval from the Saudi Ministry of Health following an on-site inspection conducted by the specialised delegation, which commended the clinics for meeting all required standards and operational requirements, he clarified. He indicated that all medical personnel were also credentialed and officially licensed to practice within the Kingdom, marking the launch of operations and confirming the clinics’ readiness to receive patients and visiting pilgrims from the State of Qatar. Agreement with Saudi German Hospital in Makkah for observation and emergency case management, enhancing healthcare delivery and advanced care services. The medical unit’s clinics received official licensure from the Saudi Ministry of Health following an on-site inspection confirming full compliance with regulatory standards. All medical staff were credentialed and licensed to practice in the Kingdom, ensuring full operational readiness to receive patients. Overall, the communications and support unit of the Mission plays a pivotal role in enhancing response speed and co-ordination between pilgrimage operators and the medical unit through a 24/7 hotline, ensuring rapid medical intervention and immediate handling of medical or emergency cases, in addition to providing continuous support and follow-up for pilgrims of the State across all locations, he said. The Mission applauded the significant efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia in serving pilgrims, through the development of an integrated and advanced healthcare system operating in accordance with the highest medical and regulatory standards, ensuring pilgrim safety and the provision of necessary healthcare across the holy sites. 

The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) has achieved simultaneous reaccreditation of its laboratories by both the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB). The formal CAP reaccreditation, awarded in March, and AABB reaccreditation, granted last month, followed intensive and co-ordinated inspections conducted in February.“This dual re-accreditation is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of our DLMP teams across all divisions,” said department head Dr Einas al-Kuwari. The CAP lead inspector highlighted both the uniqueness and scale of the department’s achievement, stating that the HMC’s quality management system was among the most extensive he had ever seen.Meanwhhile the AABB inspectors confirmed full compliance with international transfusion medicine and biotherapy standards. Across the DLMP, accreditation readiness was demonstrated through compliance with 16,455 CAP standards and 479 AABB standards, supported by a comprehensive and integrated quality governance framework that includes 16 Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) indicators, 60 Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) indicators, 13 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG) indicators, and 207 sectional indicators.  

 The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recorded significant progress in healthcare development and patient services during 2025, according to its latest annual achievements report.The report highlighted major advances in clinical care, digital transformation, operational efficiency, and public access to medical services across Qatar.Introducing the report, HMC director-general Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Suwaidi described 2025 as a milestone year for the institution, stressing its continued role as Qatar’s leading provider of specialised healthcare services.He said that the HMC remained focused on expanding access to care, improving operational efficiency, and delivering patient-centred healthcare that meets society's evolving needs.The report outlines achievements in institutional performance, clinical development, digital innovation, and sustainability initiatives aligned with the Third National Development Strategy and the National Health Strategy.It also revealed strong growth in most healthcare indicators in 2025 compared to the previous year, reflecting rising demand for medical services and continued expansion in the healthcare sector.According to the report, inpatient admissions rose by 4% in 2025, reaching 159,109 cases, up from 152,741 in 2024.Surgical operations recorded even stronger growth, increasing by 11% to 80,218 procedures, up from 72,485 operations the previous year.Birth rates within HMC facilities also increased by 2%, with 28,464 deliveries recorded in 2025 compared to 27,822 in 2024.Emergency services experienced substantial growth as well.Adult emergency departments registered a 12% increase in visits, receiving 974,268 patients in 2025 compared to 869,230 the year before.In contrast, paediatric emergency centres saw a 7% decline in visits, with a total of 583,864 patients, down from 627,586 in 2024.Outpatient clinics across all specialties handled more than 3mn patient visits in 2025, marking an 8% increase from 2.86mn visits in 2024.Therapeutic procedures conducted in outpatient clinics also climbed by 11%, reaching 257,968 procedures.Telemedicine consultations declined by 14%, with 220,278 remote consultations recorded in 2025 compared to 256,277 during 2024, reflecting a broader return to in-person healthcare services.The report highlighted major increases in clinical support services.Laboratory testing rose by 8%, surpassing 26.4mn tests in 2025, while medical imaging procedures increased by 6% to more than 1.05mn scans.Pharmaceutical services also expanded, with nearly 9mn prescriptions dispensed during the year, a 5% increase compared to 2024.Ambulance transport operations recorded a 2% rise, reaching 210,676 cases in 2025, while emergency call volumes climbed to 310,101 calls compared to 287,838 calls the previous year.The helicopter ambulance missions remained relatively stable, recording 2,057 cases.One of the report’s key findings was the significant improvement in patient access to outpatient services.Among the top 20 medical specialties, 75% of Qatari patients were able to secure appointments within two weeks, with an average waiting period of 15 days.This represented a 32% improvement compared to 2024 in the number of patients seen within the targeted timeframe.The improvements were achieved through more efficient use of workforce resources and clinic spaces, expanded evening clinic operations in selected specialties, and targeted efforts to reduce missed appointments.The introduction of automatic cancellation policies for repeated no-shows and the adoption of strategic overbooking practices helped improve appointment availability and maximise clinic efficiency.The no-show rate stood at 13% in 2025, while controlled overbooking averaged 16%.These measures contributed to a dramatic reduction in waiting lists for Qatari patients, with pending appointments dropping from 16,654 in 2024 to just 849 in 2025.The report further showcased groundbreaking medical achievements that marked firsts for Qatar’s healthcare sector.Among the most notable milestones was the country’s first-ever heart transplant surgery, successfully performed at Heart Hospital.The operation represented a major advancement in cardiac care and was carried out by a multidisciplinary team involving specialists in surgery, cardiology, anaesthesia, intensive care, nursing, infectious diseases, nephrology, pathology, rehabilitation, psychiatry, and social services.The HMC performed Qatar’s first total ankle replacement surgery, representing a major development in orthopaedic medicine and offering renewed mobility for patients suffering from severe joint damage.Officials said that the achievement reflected the adoption of advanced surgical technologies and the continuous development of specialised medical expertise.Accordingly, during 2025, the HMC received several prestigious international awards and recognitions.The National Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic Diseases Institute received a global leadership award for combating obesity during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.The corporation’s Extracorporeal Life Support Programme was honoured with an excellence award from Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation for Southwest Asia and Africa, while the HMC secured a prestigious Digital Innovation Award at the Google Cloud Summit.In addition, the World Health Organisation (WHO) renewed accreditation for the HMC’s Smoking Cessation Centre, and the corporation won an international Healthy Workplace Award, further cementing its growing reputation as a regional leader in healthcare excellence and innovation. 

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has announced that 29 of its health centres have renewed their certification for sustainable operations under the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) developed by the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD). The PHCC said that a number of several facilities achieved high performance ratings, including platinum and gold classifications, reflecting standards in operational sustainability, resource efficiency and indoor environmental quality. The achievement marks a significant milestone for the organisation, which said it had become the first government entity in Qatar to renew GSAS Operations certifications for a second cycle.The certification renewal process is required every four years to maintain compliance with approved sustainability standards. GORD chairman Dr Yousef Alhorr described the renewed certification as an important environmental and institutional accomplishment. “The Primary Health Care Corporation’s centres receiving GSAS Operations certification for the second consecutive time represents a distinguished environmental and institutional achievement that reflects a commitment to making sustainability an integral part of the healthcare system in Qatar,” he said. Musallam Mubarak al-Nabet, the PHCC’s assistant managing director for Administrative Affairs and Shared Services, said that the recertification demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to delivering sustainable healthcare services.The GSAS Operations certification provides a data-driven framework aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of existing buildings while enhancing indoor environmental quality for occupants. 

British paratroopers have dropped onto Britain's most remote overseas territory, Tristan da Cunha, along with medics and medical supplies, after a case of suspected ‌hantavirus was confirmed there.A team of six paratroopers ​and two military ‌clinicians from 16 Air Assault Brigade jumped from ‌an RAF ⁠A400M transport aircraft ‌that flew 6,788km (4,218 miles) ‌from RAF Brize Norton air base in Oxfordshire to Ascension ⁠Island then another 3,000km due south to Tristan da Cunha.Dropped alongside them on Saturday were oxygen supplies and other medical aid. The A400M was refuelled mid-flight by a supporting RAF Voyager.**media[444100]**The operation is the first time the UK military has deployed medical personnel to provide ​humanitarian support via a parachute jump, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.The supplies were primarily destined for a British ‌man who UK health authorities ⁠say was a ​passenger on the cruise ship that was hit ​by a hantavirus outbreak and which docked at the island between April 13 and 15. The WHO said the man reported symptoms compatible with hantavirus on April 28 and that he is stable and in isolation."With oxygen supplies on the island at a critical level, an airdrop with medical personnel was the only method of getting vital care to the patient in time," ‌the Ministry of Defence statement ‌said.Tristan da Cunha, ⁠home to only around 200 people, is halfway between South ⁠Africa and South ⁠America. It is the world's remotest inhabited island, more than 2,400km and a six-day boat ride from St Helena, its nearest inhabited neighbour. It usually relies on a medical team of two people for its health needs, and is normally ​only accessible by boat as it has no airstrip.Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were previously delivered by military plane on May 7 to Ascension Island, where another British man from the cruise ship had disembarked before being medically evacuated to South Africa."The arrival of paratroopers, medical personnel and medical supplies from the sky has hopefully reassured the people of Tristan ‌da Cunha," said ​Brigadier Ed Cartwright, Officer Commanding 16 Air Assault Brigade.

Qatar's health sector is fully primed to handle any emergency that may arise from the current regional situation, with a robust strategic stockpile of medicines and medical supplies sufficient for nine months, the Minister of Public Health has said.Speaking to Qatar Television, His Excellency Mansoor bin Ebrahim al-Mahmoud said the sustained investment and overriding priority given to the health sector by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had placed the country in a position of strength, with a flexible and highly capable health system ready to respond to any contingency at short notice."The infrastructure of the health sector in the State, in terms of facilities and emergency centres, literally qualifies it for handling any contingency amid the current situation," the minister said.Al Mahmoud confirmed that all hospitals and health facilities across the country are operating around the clock, with dedicated operations chambers monitoring the situation and coordinating work on a 24-hour basis. These command structures are tracking all relevant figures and data, covering hospital readiness, capacity planning, and the ability to absorb contingencies at varying levels of severity.The country's health network comprises 26 hospitals spanning the public, private, and quasi-government sectors, underpinned by what the minister described as a world-class infrastructure built up steadily over the past several years. A workforce of 60,000 health professionals, nurses, and practitioners is currently deployed across these facilities, working with what al-Mahmoud called a high degree of efficiency and professionalism.Routine and essential care services have continued uninterrupted throughout the current crisis, the minister stressed, including dialysis treatment, childhood vaccination programmes, and regular patient consultations at health centres across the country. He also confirmed that blood supply levels are sufficient and above the required threshold.On trauma cases linked to the ongoing crisis, al-Mahmoud said that since the situation began, the injuries treated at medical institutions and health centres have been minor and superficial in nature, with patients discharged on the same day in all but one case. That remaining patient is in a stable condition and is expected to be discharged in the near future, he added.Regarding the strategic medical stockpile, the minister explained that Qatar operates a combined system for medical supplies, with reserves held specifically to supply health institutions when needed. He confirmed the stockpile has not been drawn upon thus far and remains sufficient for nine months. Supply chains are being monitored constantly to ensure that hospitals can continue to import medicines and medical equipment without interruption, and he noted that coordination with fellow GCC states is in place, with no issues reported on that front.Al-Mahmoud urged members of the public to rely solely on official sources for information and news, reiterating that the health sector is fully ready and operating as a key priority of Qatar's leadership. He also highlighted the close coordination between the health sector and other government agencies, including Civil Defence, describing the inter-agency response as highly professional and well-orchestrated. 

Hamad Medical Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to medicines for patients across Qatar, backed by a sustainable strategic stockpile aimed at meeting healthcare needs at all times.Executive Director of Pharmacy at HMC Dr Ameena Jesaimani said the corporation remains keen to guarantee that all patients in the country can obtain their medicines in a secure, smooth and efficient manner. She stressed that HMC pharmacies continue to operate with a strong strategic reserve in place to ensure patient requirements are consistently met.Dr Jesaimani said patient convenience remains a central part of HMC’s approach, noting that medicines continue to be delivered to homes through a service run in co-operation with Qatar Post. Patients can access the service through the Lbaih mobile application or by calling the National Healthcare Helpline 16000, selecting pharmaceutical services, where a professional team prepares prescriptions and ensures their safe delivery to homes.The reassurance comes as Qatar’s healthcare sector continues to strengthen service continuity and patient support through a broad range of measures introduced in recent weeks. Health authorities have maintained normal operations across facilities while also expanding remote access to care, helping patients receive medical guidance, consultations and follow-up services without unnecessary travel.Urgent care services have remained available around the clock at a number of health centres for patients with non-life-threatening conditions, while telephone and video consultations have continued to offer added convenience, particularly for families, the elderly and those managing chronic illnesses.Nurse-led support services have also helped direct patients to the most appropriate level of care, ensuring timely medical attention and easing pressure on emergency departments.Prescription access has been further supported through digital channels, making it easier for patients to request refills, manage appointments and obtain key health services remotely. These steps reflect a wider emphasis on combining direct care with technology-driven solutions to improve access, efficiency and patient comfort.At the same time, Qatar has continued to reinforce the resilience of its wider healthcare supply system. Efforts to protect the steady flow of medicines and medical supplies have been supported by strong logistics planning, co-ordination across institutions and the availability of alternative transport arrangements when needed. This has helped ensure that essential healthcare goods continue to reach hospitals, clinics and patients without disruption.The country has also pressed ahead with longer-term health priorities, including preventive care, regulatory improvements and community health initiatives. Public institutions and partner entities have continued to invest in programmes that support quality treatment, early intervention and safer, more accessible services for the population. 

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has announced the continuation of its institutional partnership with the Heart Hospital at Hamad Medical Corp under the Nabd Waqf for heart patients, affiliated with the Healthcare Endowment Fund. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of endowments in supporting specialised healthcare for heart patients unable to afford treatment costs. In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said the efforts fall within the directorate’s strategy to develop healthcare endowments and expand co-operation with Hamad Medical Corp, reflecting its commitment to building a sustainable institutional endowment model that contributes to safeguarding lives and enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the country. Commenting on the partnership, Eng. Hassan bin Abdullah al-Marzouqi, director-general of the General Directorate of Endowments, said the collaboration, launched in 2021, represents “a practical model of national integration in serving patients.” He noted that since its establishment, the Nabd Waqf has contributed to the treatment of heart patients by providing financial support for critical surgeries, the implantation of advanced medical devices, and covering treatment and hospitalisation costs for eligible cases. He added that the initiative underscores the impact of healthcare endowments as a sustainable instrument for supporting the national medical system, expressing appreciation to donors, whose contributions constitute an ongoing charitable reward. Al-Marzouqi further highlighted that the directorate’s vision is based on investing endowment assets and channelling their returns to vital sectors, foremost among them healthcare, through the Healthcare Endowment Fund, which operates under clear governance standards to ensure equitable distribution and sustainable impact. Dr Abdulwahid al-Mulla, senior consultant and head of the cardiothoracic surgery department at Heart Hospital, Hamad Medical Corp, said the support provided through the Nabd Waqf has become a key pillar of the Patient Care Fund. It has enabled the performance of complex cardiac surgeries and the implantation of high-cost medical devices for patients unable to bear treatment expenses. He noted that the funding has helped cover surgical preparations, medications, medical devices, and hospital stays, ensuring patients receive timely treatment without delay. The support has also assisted many beneficiaries in regaining their ability to work and continue supporting their families both inside and outside Qatar, directly contributing to their social and family stability. The Healthcare Endowment Fund is one of the endowment funds affiliated with the General Directorate of Endowments. It specialises in channelling endowment revenues towards medical and therapeutic services for eligible beneficiaries through strategic partnerships with national healthcare institutions. The Nabd Waqf falls within this framework as a specialised initiative supporting heart patients. It operates under rigorous evaluation mechanisms, in co-ordination with Hamad Medical Corp, to determine funding priorities and ensure resources are directed to the most urgent cases.
