Hamas agrees to free hostages under Trump's Gaza proposal

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced Friday that it has submitted its response to US President Donald Trump's plan to cease the war in the Gaza Strip to the mediators. In a statement, the movement said it had held extensive consultations to reach a "responsible position" on the US president's plan, out of its desire to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.It expressed its appreciation for Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as the efforts of US President Donald Trump, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, an exchange of prisoners, the immediate entry of aid, and the rejection of the occupation of the Strip and the displacement of the Palestinian people from it.It added: "We announce our agreement to the release of all prisoners, alive and dead, in accordance with the exchange formula included in President Trump's proposal and with the provision of field conditions for the exchange process," stressing its readiness to immediately enter negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details. The movement also renewed its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats, based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support. The statement continued saying that the other issues included in President Trump's proposal related to the future of the Gaza Strip and the inherent rights of the Palestinian people are linked to a comprehensive national position and based on relevant international laws and resolutions. These matters will be discussed within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, of which Hamas will be a member and to which it will contribute responsibly, the statement said.

Trump announces Gaza peace plan, with Netanyahu backing

President Donald Trump unveiled a wide-ranging Gaza peace plan Monday and won backing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The 20-point plan, which Trump has also circulated to Arab leaders, calls for a ceasefire, release of hostages by Hamas, disarmament of Hamas and gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.Other key points include deployment of a "temporary international stabilisation force" and creation of a transitional authority headed by Trump himself and featuring other foreign leaders. The deal would demand resistance movement Hamas fighters fully disarm and be excluded from future roles in the government. However, those who agreed to "peaceful co-existence" would be given amnesty.Following Israeli withdrawal, the borders would be opened to aid and investment. In a crucial change from Trump's earlier apparent goals, Palestinians will not be forced to leave Gaza and instead, the document said, "we will encourage people to stay and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza."Netanyahu made clear he was in favour, saying it "achieves our war aims," while Trump said he was hopeful that Hamas would also give its backing.Approval from all sides was "beyond very close," Trump said. Proposal calls for release of hostages within 48 hours of ceasefire. However, many important details remained to be clarified. The US president had met key Arab leaders at the United Nations last week and said Sunday on social media that " all are on board for something special, first time ever".Normally a staunch ally of Netanyahu, the US president has shown increasing signs of frustration ahead of the Israeli premier's fourth White House visit since Trump's return to power.Trump was infuriated by Israel's recent strike on Hamas members in key US ally Qatar. And he warned Netanyahu last week against annexing the Israeli-occupied West Bank, as some of Netanyahu's cabinet members have urged, a move that would seriously complicate the route to Palestinian statehood.Netanyahu's coalition government is propped up by the far-right ministers who oppose a peace deal.Hamas' apparent absence from the negotiations has raised questions about the prospects for the latest initiative.Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continued across the Gaza Strip, killing at least four people in Khan Younis, according to the Hamas-run territory's civil defense agency.Families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza urged Trump to uphold his Gaza proposal. And in Gaza, people expressed a mix of hope, exhaustion and distrust ahead of the White House meeting.Israel's offensive has killed 66,055 Palestinians, also mostly civilians, according to health ministry figures in the Hamas-run territory.

Hamas yet to get Trump plan; Israel expands Gaza assault

Hamas has not received US President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan, the Palestinian resistance group which runs the enclave said Saturday as Israeli forces expanded their assault on Gaza City. "Hamas has not been presented with any plan," a Hamas official who asked not to be named told Reuters. In his comments to reporters on Friday in which he said "it's looking like we have a deal on Gaza", Trump offered no details of its contents and gave no timetable. Israel has not yet made any public response to Trump's comments.Trump is due on Monday to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who heads a hard-right governing coalition opposed to ending the Gaza war until Hamas is destroyed.Trump also said on Friday talks on Gaza with Middle Eastern nations were intense and would continue as long as required. His special envoy Steve Witkoff said the US president had presented proposals to the leaders of multiple Muslim-majority countries this week that included a 21-point Middle East peace plan.In Gaza meanwhile, the fighting continued. The Israeli military said its aircraft struck 120 targets across the strip over the past day as troops pressed deeper into Gaza City. The Palestinian Health Ministry said 74 people were killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours. In a post on social media platform X, the military's Arabic spokesman repeated calls for Gaza City residents to evacuate.

Walkouts before Netanyahu UN speech show Israel 'isolation'

Hamas said a mass walkout of delegations before Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN Friday showed Israel's "isolation" as a result of the Gaza war."Boycotting Netanyahu's speech is one manifestation of Israel's isolation and the consequences of the war of extermination," Taher al-Nunu, the media adviser to the head of Hamas's political bureau, said in a statement. As the Israeli PM walked up to the General Assembly rostrum, a number of delegations walked out — in a deliberate protest as the Israeli premier was the day's first speaker.Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas's political bureau, said Netanyahu had been left with "nothing but a chorus of cheerleaders who entered the UN hall only to clap in support of genocide".In a statement, Hamas accused Netanyahu of repeating "lies and blatant denial of the genocide, forced displacement and systematic starvation committed by him" and the Israeli military in Gaza."If he truly cared for his captives, he would end the brutal bombing, massacres and destruction of Gaza, but instead, he lies and continues to endanger their lives," the group said, referring to the hostages held by Hamas fighters.During his angry UN address, Netanyahu vowed to block a Palestinian state, accusing European leaders who recently recognised one of rewarding Hamas.Hamas said that the boycott of Netanyahu's speech showed the "growing global solidarity with the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state".A Palestinian foreign ministry official slammed Netanyahu's speech at the UN, saying it was "saturated with lies and falsifications"."It was the speech of a defeated man, a desperate leader who once again tried to rally a West that has increasingly distanced itself from a genocidal state, using fear as his only argument," the director of the ministry's European affairs department, Adel Atieh, told AFP."This speech showed neither vision nor perspective: it only reflected growing isolation, a headlong rush forward and the anxiety of a power that knows it stands on the wrong side of history," he added.Israel's offensive has killed at least 65,549 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to health ministry figures in the Hamas-run territory that the UN considers reliable.Meanwhile, the main Israeli group representing the families of hostages decried Netanyahu's call at the UN Friday to "finish the job" in Gaza, saying it endangered the remaining captives."Every day of continued war puts the living hostages at greater risk...," the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement."Time and again, (Netanyahu) has chosen to squander every opportunity to bring them home."US President Donald Trump said he thought he had sealed a deal on a ceasefire after nearly two years of war.

Qatar subjected to treacherous attack by Israel, says PM

Qatar was subjected to a treacherous attack by the Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday, which can only be interpreted as an act of state terrorism, stressed HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani at special press conference held in Doha Tuesday. HE the prime minster said the assault targeted the headquarters of the political bureau of Hamas during the ongoing negotiations. “From the very first moment, and under the directives of His Highness the Amir, the security authorities, the civil defence, and other agencies concerned immediately responded to the incident. The casualties and martyrs resulting from this treacherous attack were recorded, and the necessary measures were taken to ensure public safety and contain its consequences.” HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that Qatar will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or the integrity of its territory, and that it will respond firmly to any reckless breach or aggression that targets its security and threatens the stability of the region. “Qatar reserves the right to respond to this blatant attack and will take all necessary measures to address it. The directives of His Highness the Amir are clear: the security of citizens and expatriates is our top priority. Accordingly, starting from Wednesday, a comprehensive review of the policies and procedures will begin to ensure deterrence of such actions and prevent their recurrence.” He noted that the Israeli attack that took place on the Qatari soil can only be described as state terrorism carried out by someone like Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Within the context of these systematic policies and his ongoing attempts to destabilise regional security and stability, this is nothing more than a clear message to the entire region. “That message is that there is a rogue player in this region, one that engages in continuous political bullying and violates the sovereignty of states. Netanyahu himself has declared that he intends to reshape the Middle East. Does this message mean that he also seeks to reshape the Gulf? “We believe that today we have reached a critical juncture where the entire region must respond to such barbaric actions, which reflect the brutality of this individual who is leading the region toward a level, unfortunately, that cannot be repaired—one that makes it impossible to work within the international systems, frameworks, and laws, all of which he has blatantly disregarded.” HE Sheikh Mohammed added that at this point of time there is a need for a collective response from the entire region. He stressed that this attack was not only a blatant violation of all international laws but also a transgression of the most basic ethical and moral standards. “We are speaking about a mediating state that is hosting official negotiations under a declared sponsorship and in the presence of official delegations. However, the missiles were launched and fired targeting the negotiating delegation from the other side. By what logic or moral standard can this be accepted? What took place can only be described as outright treachery.” He added that in recent days, intense negotiations were held at the request of the American side to discuss the latest proposal it had submitted. “Despite being fully aware and actively involved through the continuous dispatch of its delegations to Doha, the Israeli side deliberately worked to obstruct every effort aimed at opening a window for peace. “Does the world need a clearer message than this? Who is the one closing the door to peace? Does the international community still need further proof? Who is the real bully in this region? He pointed out that history will write down this incident as a flagrant violation of the International laws and traditions. “We have to take this incident into consideration as the infringement on the sovereignty of countries and recklessness that should not be overlooked.” The prime minister stressed that Qatar is taking all the necessary measures in coordination with friendly and brotherly countries against this unjustifiable attack. He said that all such measures to be taken shall be announced in the coming days. He expressed his condolences for the Qatari personnel from the internal security forces who was martyred during the attack. “All the necessary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety and security of the public as Qatar will never spare efforts to defend its sovereignty and integrity of its territories. It will deal decisively with any reckless action or attack that touches on its security and the security of the region.” HE the prime minister said that the American side informed Qatar government ten minutes after the attack took place and the US said that they had just received the message. He affirmed that the attack was a 100% treacherous operation; no body informed ahead, and any other talk or tales about this are only lies and unfounded rumours. He said the efficiency of the Qatari air defence system was proven during the Iranian missile attacks. “However, these attacks were conducted using sophisticated weaponry that were not detected by the radar.” He said that Israeli side used to send its delegation to Doha for negotiations in a continuous manner, and they knew that the peace negotiations were going on.
