The State of Qatar participated in the opening of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group inaugurated by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.  Qatar was represented at the opening of the meetings by His Excellency the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari. The meetings are being held in Baku on 16 -19 June 2026, under the slogan "Regional Integration for Sustainable Prosperity," and witnessed wide participation from representatives of member states and international development partners.  Participants discussed ways to enhance sustainable development and economic integration. Qatar's participation comes as part of its commitment to supporting development cooperation with member states and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.  HE al-Kuwari also attended the first and second plenary sessions within the framework of the annual meetings of the Group, where the sessions discussed a number of priority issues for member states, including strengthening development and economic cooperation, supporting the stability of the Islamic financial system, developing innovative financing tools, as well as exploring ways to enhance integration among member states and expand partnerships with regional and international financial institutions in a manner that supports development efforts and economic growth.

The Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC) Qatar, under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, recently hosted the India - Qatar Virtual Energy Conference 2026, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, business executives, manufacturers, technology providers, consultants and service companies from India, Qatar and international markets to explore emerging opportunities within Qatar's rapidly expanding energy and industrial sectors.The conference was inaugurated by Vipul, ambassador of India to Qatar, who highlighted the strong and growing India-Qatar relationship, recently elevated to a Strategic Partnership, and emphasised the expanding opportunities for collaboration across energy, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and industrial development.Delivering the keynote industry perspective, Nasser Jeham al-Kuwari, Chairman of COREINFO and former CEO of Q-Chem and Qafac, provided a strategic overview of Qatar's energy transformation and industrial growth trajectory. He highlighted Qatar's ambitious plans to expand LNG production capacity from 77mn tonnes per annum to 142mn tonnes by 2030, creating significant opportunities across engineering, manufacturing, industrial services, downstream industries and technology solutions.Dr Rony Paul Thekkanath, Founder and CEO of PETRO-Q and Vice President of IBPC Qatar, presented a comprehensive overview of Qatar's energy ecosystem, outlining the country's oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical, utilities and industrial landscape while highlighting opportunities across the energy value chain.Addressing market-entry requirements, Ikram Kidwai, Industry Expert and Business Consultant, shared insights into qualification processes, compliance requirements, procurement frameworks, localization initiatives and supplier expectations. He emphasized that successful market participation requires not only technical capability, but also compliance readiness, credibility, local engagement and long-term commitment.Suresh Ramanujan, Vice-President of Emerson, focused on trade, commerce, investment and partnership opportunities arising from Qatar's ongoing energy expansion. He highlighted opportunities across engineering services, manufacturing, automation, industrial AI, digital transformation, cybersecurity, reliability engineering and sustainability initiatives.A key message that emerged throughout the conference was that Qatar's energy sector is evolving beyond a construction-led growth story into a long-term ecosystem driven by operations, maintenance, digitalization, sustainability, localization and value creation. Participants also noted that future success will increasingly be determined by qualification, compliance, innovation, strategic partnerships and sustained market engagement rather than cost competitiveness alone.Supported by leading Indian industry organizations including EEPC India, CII, FICCI, PHDCCI and FIEO, the conference attracted a diverse and high-quality audience representing the energy, engineering, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology and industrial services sectors. 

Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ministry of displaced persons and refugees to implement joint development projects aimed at supporting returnees and improving their living conditions.The agreement was signed by Mohammed Washan, the director of the QC’s Bosnia and Herzegovina branch, and Bosnia’s Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees Nerin Dizdar, in the presence of Hassan Mohd al-Naemi, general supervisor of the QC’s Bosnia and Herzegovina branch.During the meeting, both sides reviewed Qatar Charity’s ongoing activities in the country and discussed opportunities to strengthen co-operation.This agreement reflects the QC’s vision to expand its humanitarian and development work by meeting real needs, especially by supporting returnees and strengthening economic empowerment, helping achieve stability and sustainable return.Al-Naemi highlighted the importance of the partnership in expanding Qatar Charity’s humanitarian and development work, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to ensuring effective implementation and maximising impact.Washan emphasised that partnerships with government entities play a key role in improving the efficiency of project delivery and ensuring assistance reaches those most in need.Dizdar expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued support since 1994, noting that the MoU reflects a shared commitment to improving the conditions of returnees through projects in infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment. 

As Qatar continues its remarkable cultural and educational transformation, a new proposal is seeking to place reading and intellectual development at the heart of national life.In an exclusive interview with Gulf Times, author and consultant in therapeutic and community nutrition Moudhi al-Hajri unveiled an ambitious idea: the establishment of a National Day for Reading and Culture, modeled after Qatar’s successful National Sports Day.The proposal comes alongside the launch of Al-Hajri’s latest book, National Proposals, a publication dedicated to encouraging civic engagement and constructive dialogue on issues of national importance.Speaking about the book’s objectives, Al-Hajri explained that the publication aims to foster greater community participation and inspire practical solutions to societal challenges.“This publication aims to promote a culture of community participation and open a dialogue on several national issues through constructive proposals designed to support development and reform initiatives, in line with the state’s vision and the aspirations of society.”She emphasised that the book is not merely a collection of theoretical ideas but an invitation to collective action and national responsibility.Reflecting on Qatar’s growing achievements in education, culture and human development, Al-Hajri believes the time has come for a dedicated national celebration of knowledge and learning.“I propose designating a National Day for Reading and Culture as an official holiday, similar to the National Sports Day. This aims to consolidate a culture of reading, research, and learning within society, and to encourage all members of the community to develop their minds and intellectual and cultural skills.”According to Al-Hajri, Qatar’s pioneering National Sports Day has become an internationally recognised model promoting physical well-being. She argues that intellectual well-being deserves similar recognition.“Qatar distinguished itself by launching its National Sports Day, which has become a global model reflecting the importance of sports and physical activity for human health. Today, we also need a day dedicated to ‘mind sports,’ because reading and culture are the foundation of thought, creativity, and progress. As the saying goes, ‘a sound mind in a sound body.’”Building a Culture of ReadingThe proposed national day would encourage reading across all age groups and platforms, from traditional books and newspapers to educational digital content.“The National Day for Reading and Culture aims to promote the habit of reading among children, youth, and adults, whether through reading books, newspapers, or magazines, or even by utilising purposeful digital and cultural platforms on social media.”Al-Hajri envisions a nationwide effort involving both public and private institutions. Activities could include book fairs, cultural festivals, educational workshops, and the establishment of physical and digital libraries. Schools, businesses and families would all play a role in cultivating a lasting love of reading.She also suggested introducing annual themes to inspire participation and reinforce the value of knowledge. Among the proposed themes are: “If you don’t read a book, you will fall centuries behind” and “With knowledge we rise, and with reading we build the future.”Al-Hajri noted that Qatar has already established itself as a regional leader in education and research through its universities, research centers and academic achievements. A National Day for Reading and Culture, she argues, would further strengthen the country’s position as a hub for innovation, creativity and intellectual development.“Reading not only opens doors to knowledge, but also equips individuals with new skills, teaches them different languages and cultures, and develops their thinking, analytical, and creative abilities, which positively impacts society as a whole and the future of generations to come.”Concluding the interview, Al-Hajri expressed hope that Qatar will continue to lead by example in nurturing minds and advancing human development.Her proposal reflects a broader vision of a society where intellectual growth is celebrated as enthusiastically as physical achievement, a vision that aligns closely with Qatar’s long-term aspirations for a knowledge-based future. 

Qatar Charity (QC) has officially inaugurated a new multi-service center in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott. Funded by Qatar’s benefactors, the facility is designed to strengthen social development, upgrade basic services, and provide an integrated package of educational, health, Islamic, and economic services to the local population. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Beitellah Ould Ahmed Laswed, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and His Excellency Mr. Shaheen bin Ali Al-Kaabi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Mauritania, as well as several government officials and local representatives. Development ImpactDuring the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Mauritania Branch, stated that the establishment of this integrated development facility in Toujounine, in the Nouakchott North Region, reflects the organization’s approach of implementing projects that bring together multiple essential services in one location to maximize development impact.**media[449398]**He added that the center features a mosque to promote Islamic values, a school to educate future generations, and a clinic to provide healthcare in the district. It also includes social spaces and endowment-based commercial shops that will contribute to the sustainability and operation of the facility. Shared VisionHE Shaheen bin Ali Al-Kaabi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Mauritania, thanked Qatar Charity for its development efforts in Mauritania through implementing vital projects in education, health, water, and economic empowerment, reflecting its commitment to its noble humanitarian mission. The Ambassador emphasized that the project represents a practical expression of the deep-rooted historical relations between Qatar and Mauritania, built on mutual respect, fraternity, and a shared vision for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. He noted that this aligns with the aspirations of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar and HE President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to promote human development, ensure dignified living standards, and support stability and growth. Addressing Essential NeedsMr. El Hadrami Ould Sidi Mohamed, Deputy Mayor of Toujounine Municipality, emphasized that the center addresses urgent needs in the area. He pointed out that the neighborhood previously lacked a mosque, faced limited healthcare coverage, and experienced overcrowding in schools. He described the project as a comprehensive solution that will meet several essential community needs. He thanked Qatar Charity for its partnership with the municipality on multiple development projects, and expressed his gratitude to Qatar’s leadership, government, citizens, and philanthropists, voicing his pride in the growing bilateral relations between the two countries. Continued EffortsMr. Beitellah Ould Ahmed Laswed, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, expressed his pleasure in participating in the inauguration of this highly significant multi-service center, which is expected to play a leading developmental role. He thanked Qatar Charity for supporting the government's development efforts, emphasizing that this project represents a new milestone in strengthening fruitful cooperation and relations between the two countries under their respective leaderships. Qatar Charity has previously constructed several multi-service centers in various regions, including Tintane, Djonaba, Ouad Naga, Takilalet, R'Kiz, and Boutilimit, with another center currently under construction in Kiffa.

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) hosted a student delegation from various schools and educational levels as part of efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution. The visits, organised by the centre, in co-operation with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Ambassadors Centre, included a comprehensive introductory programme during which the centre’s experts delivered awareness lectures on the nature of arbitration and its importance as a modern means of dispute resolution, in addition to reviewing its fundamentals and most prominent applications in Qatar. It also organised a practical simulation of a real arbitration session, in which students participated in different roles, with the aim of familiarising them with the mechanisms of arbitration sessions and the roles of arbitrators, lawyers, and disputing parties. Ibrahim Shahbek, secretary general of QICCA, stressed that the initiative comes within a broader national strategy aimed at spreading the culture of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods within Qatari society and among younger generations, thereby contributing to strengthening the rule of law and enhancing the country’s business environment. In turn, the participating students and accompanying supervisors expressed their appreciation for this interactive experience, praising the importance of enhancing legal awareness among young people and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application in the fields of arbitration and dispute resolution. 

The main stage at the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) hosted a panel discussion on Qatar Platform Speaks as part of the program held alongside the fair. Featuring the attendance of specialists and visitors, the panel discussed the importance of professional development, the future of in-demand skills, and the impact of artificial intelligence and digital transformation on the workplace environment. "Continuous occupational development has not been an additional option but rather an imperative imposed by the nature of consecutive transformations in the labour market amid the increasing need for leadership and digital skills as well as the ability to adapt and engage in continuous learning," CEO of Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA), Dr. Khalifa Al Salahi Al Yafei said . Al Yafei underlined that today's labour market not only looks for academically qualified talent, but for individuals who are capable of combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. He suggested that what matters the most is field training, volunteerism, and occupational courses to build students' character, to be ultimately prepared for deployment in the labour market. As such, Al Yafei recalled that there is an obvious gap between academic content and market needs, stressing the importance of developing curricula and connecting them with rapid global changes, particularly amid easy access to knowledge and the growing impact of technology and artificial intelligence. He further highlighted that adaptation is one of the most consequential skills required in modern workplaces, clarifying that the accelerated development in AI-powered tools requires individuals and enterprises to cope with these realignments and learn how to capitalise on these tools to streamline output and optimise performance. Responding to a point on the impact of AI on humans, Al Yafei outlined that these technologies are auxiliary tools that can boost productivity and provide time and cost efficiency, but people can't be oblivious to human thinking, expertise, and knowledge. He re-emphasised the need to consciously handle these tools and never depend on them entirely. Al Yafei concluded that the true challenge ahead does not lie in obtaining a job, but in the ability to persistently innovate and maintain occupational value in a labour market that is undergoing rapid change.

Qatar participated in the 2026 Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) Green and Sustainable Development Forum, held on April 28-30 in Ningbo, China. Qatar’s delegation was led by Qatar’s Consul General in Shanghai Rashid bin Mubarak al-Khater.

Qatar has opened a dedicated national centre for parenting education, signalling a deliberate shift in how the state approaches child development — treating the raising of children not as an instinctive domestic affair but as a skill requiring professional guidance, continuous training, and sustained institutional support.His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani Tuesday inaugurated the Parenting Centre, known as Kanaf — an Arabic word evoking shelter, care, and closeness — at a ceremony attended by ministers, senior government officials, and representatives of civil society organisations.The centre is a flagship project of the Ministry of Social Development and Family, operating under the Qatar Foundation for Social Work. It forms a core pillar of the Third National Development Strategy and sits within the ministry's broader "Family First" initiative, reflecting a national conviction that strong families are the foundational unit of a resilient and cohesive society.Her Excellency Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr Al Nuaimi described the inauguration as "an important national milestone," arguing that parental education is not merely a private concern but "a national responsibility that requires qualification, knowledge and continuous awareness." The family, she said, is "the first fortress of society" — language that underscores the strategic weight Qatar's leadership attaches to social cohesion and long-term demographic stability.What distinguishes Kanaf from conventional family support services is the breadth and rigour of its programming. Rather than responding to crisis after the fact, the centre is built explicitly around prevention and capacity-building, covering every phase of the parenting journey: from pre-conception and the pre-natal period through early childhood and on into the demanding terrain of adolescence. Critically, it also addresses the often-overlooked role of grandparents as transmitters of values and identity across generations — a considered acknowledgement that in Gulf family structures, child-rearing is rarely a two-person undertaking.The centre runs dedicated programmes for families raising children with disabilities or twins, and extends support to educators navigating complex or specialist cases — pushing its reach beyond the home and into the broader institutional fabric of Qatari society.Rashid Mohammed al-Hamda al-Nuaimi, CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, framed the launch as part of a wider ambition to establish parenting as "a specialised field in its own right," elevating it from the realm of inherited custom into structured, evidence-based practice aligned with leading global standards.Executive Director Dr Maryam Ibrahim al-Malki said the centre would serve as "a scientific reference and national platform," equipping parents with practical tools suited to a world in which children face accelerating social change and an ever-expanding range of outside influences competing for their attention and values.The launch comes as Gulf states increasingly look to institutional frameworks to shore up social cohesion amid rapid modernisation. For Qatar, Kanaf is a clear statement of intent: that investing in how parents parent is, ultimately, investing in the nation itself.
