Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can have his parents travel with him on India's overseas tours, the cricket board told AFP on Sunday, a day after the 15-year-old batting sensation earned his first senior international call-up.Sooryavanshi was named in India's T20 squad for the tours to Ireland and England, and the Asian Games, after sweeping the batting honours in this year's Indian Premier League.The left-handed opener is currently in Sri Lanka with the India A squad for a tri-nation series."His father will be flying down to Sri Lanka today," said Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)."Also, if his parents want to go to England and Ireland with him, then we will make arrangements for their travel. They would be his best support system."India, the T20 world champions, are scheduled to play Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast before a five-match England series beginning July 1.The Asian Games will be held in Japan in September and October.Sooryavanshi's selection follows a stunning IPL campaign for Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs to finish as the tournament's leading run scorer.He struck one century and five half-centuries during the season.He picked the Orange Cap for the leading run-getter, the IPL most valuable player and emerging player prizes.He is line to become India's youngest player, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, the batting great who made his Test debut aged 16 years and 205 days in 1989."With his performances, he has almost forced us to pick him," chief selector Ajit Agarkar said."Like everyone else that has watched T20 cricket in India, we have got high hopes of him. I think he just has picked himself." 

India coach Gautam Gambhir told struggling Rishabh Pant on Friday to stick to his natural attacking game after removing him as vice-captain for the one-off Test against Afghanistan.KL Rahul will be Shubman Gill's deputy for the match starting on Saturday in New Chandigarh in place of Pant.Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant has scored 3,476 runs at an average of 42.91 in 49 Test matches, since his debut in England in August 2018.But the 28-year-old stepped down as captain of Lucknow Super Giants last week, the team having finished last in the IPL.The usually flamboyant Test match star scored just 312 runs from 14 innings in this year's IPL, at a strike rate of 138.05."The responsibility is to play for India - the rest, everything else, is a by-product," Gambhir told reporters on the eve of the Test."When you start playing for India, you don't think about being a vice-captain. You think about doing good for India."Gambhir said that no player is told to "play a completely different game than his natural game"."We will not tell him to 'curb your game', but in international cricket, it is very important to play the situation, to read the situation," Gambhir added.Gambhir's Test record as India coach is unimpressive with 10 defeats, seven wins and two draws in 19 matches.India suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Africa at home in November in their most recent Test outing.They were also whitewashed in 2024 by New Zealand on home soil. COACH TAKING POSITIVESGambhir is taking positives though from the 2-2 Test series draw in England last year, and performances against the West Indies.India won 2-0 at home in October."We all know how well this young team played in England, and then we won against West Indies," he said, admitting that the South Africa series still "hurts"."These are young boys," he said. "I think we have got enough talent to turn it around, and I am very hopeful that we will give ourselves the best chance to win the World Test Championship."The match is not part of the World Test Championship cycle, but is a key game for Afghanistan who played their debut five-day game in India in 2018.Afghanistan, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, have since played 12 Tests and won four."We're fully focused on this Test match," coach Richard Pybus said."Our focus is on, cliche as it sounds, is really our control - it's what we need to do."

Spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan starred in Pakistan's four-wicket win in their decisive third and final one-day international against Australia in Lahore on Thursday. Shaheen grabbed 3-30 to bundle Australia out for 157 before Shadab added a fighting 29 not out to his two wickets, helping Pakistan to their winning target in 41.5 overs. That gave Pakistan a 2-1 series win - their third successive ODI series victory over Australia - after they won the first match by five wickers in Rawalpindi. Australia won the second by 41 runs, also in Lahore. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann's career best 3-38 - including Babar Azam's wicket for 40 - had given the visitors some hope of an unlikely win. At 112-6, Pakistan were in a spot of bother but Shadab found an able partner in Abdul Samad as the duo added a match-winning 49 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket stand. Shadab's second boundary sealed the win, while Samad's 18 not out included one boundary. Shaheen praised a complete team effort. "All bowlers executed plans well to keep Australia down to 157," said Shaheen.  "The conditions were tough for the batters but the players put in a great effort. "I think it was a complete team effort throughout the series." Australian captain Josh Inglis praised his team. "I thought the bowlers and the fielding group made a great effort to put us in a position to potentially win the game, but it wasn't to be in the end," he said. "We have some young and inexperienced guys so it's a great learning experience for them." Earlier, Shaheen was ably supported by Abrar Ahmed (2-19) and Shadab (2-28) as Australia's innings folded in 42 overs after they won the toss and batted. Spinners Abrar and Shadab built on Shaheen's early strikes as Pakistan made a strong comeback after a disappointing loss in the second game. Inglis top-scored with a 71-ball 65 which included eight boundaries and a six, with Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey scoring 19 each and Adam Zampa making 10. Shaheen had Matthew Short caught off the second ball of the match before Inglis added 46 for the second wicket with Labuschagne and another 52 for the third with Carey. But Australia lost their last seven wickets for a meagre 38 runs with two run outs also hurting their innings. 

England cricket legend Andrew Flintoff was named Tuesday as head coach of the Sydney Thunder, the Big Bash League team said, hailing it as their "most significant off-field acquisition in club history".The 48-year-old has signed a two-year deal for what will be his first overseas coaching role, following weeks of speculation.Former England captain Flintoff starred for his country across all three formats and was last year linked with taking over from Brendon McCullum as England's head coach.The charismatic former all-rounder has cut his teeth in coaching with the second-string England Lions, as well as the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.In 2022 the popular Flintoff was left with severe facial and rib injuries after a car crash while filming for the hit BBC television programme Top Gear.The Big Bash League is Australia's premier Twenty20 competition. 'CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED'"I can't wait to get over there and get started," he said in a statement released by the team."I'm looking at this with a lot of optimism. You look at the franchise, you look at the players, you look at the support, and I think there's something really big to build on."The Thunder squad is led by former Australia opener David Warner and also includes Sam Konstas, the 20-year-old once seen as Warner's successor at Test level.They finished bottom of the table last time out, and Flintoff replaces Trevor Bayliss, who departed the role in February after six seasons at the helm."I want our players to connect with the people that come and see us. I want them to enjoy playing cricket," said Flintoff, who had a stint in the BBL as a player over a decade ago."However, all that is underpinned by hard work... I want them to play with passion and leave everything out there on the field."I'm excited to come over, get involved and coach this team. I'm here to do the best job I possibly can for the team and everybody that comes out and supports us," he said. 

Fast bowler Nathan Ellis took a career best four-wicket haul as an understrength Australia shocked Pakistan by 41 runs in the second one-day international in Lahore on Tuesday, levelling the three-match series 1-1.Australia's total of 231-9 in 50 overs had fighting half centuries from Josh Inglis and Cameron Green before Ellis grabbed 4-33 to leave Pakistan 190 all out in 44 overs.Pakistan won the first match by five wickets in Rawalpindi which now sets up a series-deciding match, also in Lahore on Thursday.With a host of top ODI players including skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, Australia's second string staged a remarkable comeback, countering Pakistan's spin and batting with confidence.Allrounder Shadab Khan played a lone hand for the home team with a resolute 104-ball 71 and was the last man out, stumped off a spinner Tanveer Sangha's wide ball for Australian victory.Ghazi Ghori made 37 with five boundaries.Shadab hit three sixes and a boundary and repaired Pakistan's faltering position of 6-78 with a 59-run stand with Arafat Minhas (33) and another 31 with Shaheen Shah Afridi (11).But Ellis -- whose previous best of 2-13 was against India in 2023 -- dismissed Minhas leg-before to give Australia the gateway for victory.Part-time spinner Matthew Short also took a career best 3-36. IDEAL STARTEllis gave Australia an ideal start by dismissing Maaz Sadaqat off the third ball of the innings for nought before getting the prized wicket of Babar Azam for 16.Earlier, Green knocked a polished 92-ball 53 while Inglis scored a 74-ball 51 after the visitors were put in to bat by Pakistan.The Green-Inglis duo lifted Australia from 51-3 with a sedate 51-run stand after Pakistan attacked with the spin as early as from the fifth over.But it was pacer Shaheen who bowled opener Alex Carey with the first ball of the match before spinners Abrar Ahmed and Minhas struck once each, removing Short (15) and Marnus Labuschagne for five respectively.Inglis hit five boundaries in his fifth ODI fifty before he was bowled by Minhas in the 27th over.Minhas, who took five wickets on debut in Rawalpindi on Saturday, finished with 2-27.Green added another invaluable 65 runs for the fifth wicket with Matthew Renshaw (43) before Abrar removed Green to push the visitors hard.Green's third ODI half century had a single boundary and two sixes.Oliver Peake ensured Australia post a fighting total with a brisk 32-ball 31 inclusive of two sixes and a boundary.Shaheen was the best home bowler with 3-36.   

Cricket's governing body said Monday it would trial the use of pink-coloured balls in Test matches to maximise play during bad light.The red balls usually used in Tests are not easily visible in fading light, while white balls used in limited-overs matches have been found to be not durable enough for the longer format.Pink balls are already used in day-night Tests played under lights.The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement its executive board had approved the "trialling the use of a pink ball in Test matches, with prior agreement from both teams, to maximise play in case of anticipated bad light".The global cricketing body said it had also given approval for new "research on lighting technology for match officials and venues to reduce lost play due to poor light"."Our discussions... have reinforced the ICC's commitment to governance, administration and the growth of cricket globally," said council chief Jay Shah, following a meeting in India's Ahmedabad.ICC suspends Cricket Canada's membership  The International Cricket Council has suspended Canada over breaches of the national board's membership obligations, weeks after ‌the global governing body's anti-corruption ​unit launched an ‌investigation into Cricket Canada.The Canadian national ‌team ⁠will ‌still be able to ‌participate in ICC events, and funding to ⁠operate the teams will be provided through a controlled mechanism, the global governing body said on Monday.A documentary aired in April by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation had made allegations of corruption in ​the governance of Cricket Canada involving several players and officials, including match manipulation and threats of ‌violence.Media reports said ⁠the anti-corruption ​investigation was launched soon after."The ICC ​board resolved to suspend Cricket Canada from ICC membership with immediate effect due to serious breaches of its membership obligations," the global body said in a statement a day after a meeting in Ahmedabad, India.Cricket Canada will have to follow a set of ‌conditions, aimed at ‌fixing its governance ⁠and administrative issues, to restore membership, the ⁠statement added."The ⁠progress against these conditions will be monitored by the ICC normalisation committee, supported by ICC management, with reinstatement of membership subject to the board being satisfied that the ​conditions have been fully met," the ICC said.The ICC also suspended the United States national body, USA Cricket, over membership rule breaches last year. The U.S. national teams continue to participate in ICC events and are set to compete at the Los ‌Angeles ​Olympics in 2028. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi swept the end-of-season IPL awards and in doing so won an SUV - but the 15-year-old cricket prodigy will have to wait three years to drive it.The Indian batting sensation plundered 776 runs at an average of 48.50 and a punishing strike-rate of 237.30 in 16 matches.On Sunday he was named most valuable player, despite his team Rajasthan Royals narrowly failing to reach the final, and he also scooped the Orange Cap for leading the batting charts.He was also named emerging player of the season, among other prizes.The boy wonder was gifted a car, a TATA Sierra SUV, which at top price comes in at Rs2.1mn ($22,000).His total prize money was over $57,000.However, he won't be able to get behind the wheel in the near future because the minimum driving age in India is 18."It feels good, but I'm feeling a little pressure because I'm here for an interview," Sooryavanshi said on winning the awards."But yes, it's a proud moment, it feels great, and I'll try to do even better next season."Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second straight title after they beat Gujarat Titans in the final in Ahmedabad.Player of the match Kohli was seen speaking to Sooryavanshi during the presentation ceremony well past midnight.Sooryavanshi struck 97 and 96 in his final two innings of this edition of the IPL, adding to the growing clamour for him to earn a maiden call-up to the senior national team.According to Indian media, Sooryavanshi has been included in a 30-member of probables for the Asian Games in September-October in Japan.

Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim hit a glittering century as Bangladesh set Pakistan an imposing target of 427 to win the second Test after another commanding day for the hosts on Monday. Bangladesh posted 390 all out in their second innings on day three with Mushfiqur, who made 137, and Litton Das, who hit 69, putting together 123 runs for the fifth wicket. The 39-year-old Mushfiqur rolled back the years as he scored his 14th Test century, surpassing Mominul Haque's record of 13 for Bangladesh. Pakistan openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal survived the last two overs of the day without scoring before bad light ended play. The visitors will need a record chase to level the two-match series after Bangladesh won the opener. West Indies currently hold the record for the 418 they scored to beat Australia in Antigua in 2003, while Pakistan have never successfully chased more than 377. Starting the day on 110-3 with a lead of 156 runs, Bangladesh lost skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 15 but Mushfiqur and Litton put the Pakistan bowlers to the test. Litton, who scored a century in the first innings, looked good for another big score but fell to Hasan Ali at deep third-man. Mushfiqur reached his century off 178 balls with a boundary off Mohammad Abbas -- the shot that moved him clear of Mominul into the history books. It was also his eighth Test century since 2022. Taijul Islam provided valuable lower-order support, adding 77 runs with Mushfiqur before off-spinner Sajid Khan dismissed him for 22. Mushfiqur was the last man out as he became Sajid's third wicket in the innings. Pakistan pace bowling coach Umar Gul, however, said his team will fight on. "We have two days left and we are mentally prepared. If we bat through the full duration, there is a chance to win - we aren't just looking for a draw," said Gul. "Two or three good partnerships will be very important. To chase 437, you have to be brave and play positive cricket. In cricket, anything is possible." Bangladesh spinner Taijul was confident the target would weigh on Pakistan. "When they see the target number, many things may work in their minds. Discipline is very important now," said Taijul. Pace bowler Khurram Shahzad took four 4-86 while Sajid claimed 3-126.
