The quarterfinals of the 54th edition of the Amir Cup will witness four promising matches taking place tomorrow, Friday, May 1st. The first match to kick off the series will be Al Rayyan vs Al Wakrah at Al Thumama Stadium, followed by Al Duhail vs Al Arabi at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, then defending champions Al Gharafa vs Umm Salal at Al Bayt Stadium, and finally, Al Shamal vs Al Sadd at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium. Six-time Amir Cup winner Al Rayyan will aim to progress further into the tournament, which they last won in 2013, after defeating Al Khor 2-0 in the round of 16. Al Rayyan enters this match after securing third place in the Doha Bank Stars League by defeating Al Arabi 4-0. Coach Vicente Moreno explained that the match against Al Wakrah, whom he previously coached, won't be easy. Meanwhile, Al Wakrah aims to win the Amir Cup for the first time in its history, after finishing eighth in the league with a 3-1 win against Al Sailiya. Coach Jose Sierra explained that several players have performed brilliantly this season and is counting on them to secure a path into the next stage of the competition.In the match between Al Duhail and Al Arabi, the former won the Amir Cup four times, most recently in 2022, while Al Arabi is the second most decorated team in the tournament with nine wins, which they last won in 2023. Al-Duhail coach Djamel Belmadi explained the goal is to secure AFC Champions League participation, which requires winning the Amir Cup, as the team failed to secure a spot in the top four in the league, finishing fifth. In turn, Al Arabi coach Cosmin Contra expressed hope to get the team back on track following the 4-0 league loss against Al Rayyan in the league, which saw Al Arabi place seventh. In the match between Al Gharafa and Umm Salal, the former seeks to defend its title after winning the Amir Cup last year, bringing its tally to seven. The team beat Al Kharaitiyat with a clean 2-0 win in the round of 16. The current season was not ideal for Al Gharafa under coach Pedro Martinez after the team failed to maintain its lead in the Qatari league, subsequently falling to fourth place.Umm Salal, meanwhile, seeks to overcome the negative results of its last league matches that consequently relegated the club to the second division. Umm Salal won the title once in 2008 and secured their place in the Amir Cup quarterfinals by defeating Al Ahli 4-2 in the round of 16. In the last of the Amir Cup quarterfinal matches, Al Sadd will face a tough test against Al Shamal in a match expected to be full of competitiveness between the two to reach the semifinals. Al Sadd, the current league champion and the most decorated team in the Amir Cup with 19 titles, will aim to continue its goal of achieving a double this season. Coach Roberto Mancini will enter the match with high morale after winning the Doha Bank Stars League title on Monday after defeating Al Shamal 3-2.Meanwhile, Al Shamal aims to secure its first Amir Cup title in the club's history, following an exceptional season in the league by finishing second with 40 points. Al Shamal was victorious in the round of 16 against Qatar SC, winning 2-1, securing them a spot in the quarterfinals against Al Sadd.

Al Rayyan and Al Arabi booked their places in the Amir Cup Basketball semi-finals with convincing wins Sunday at Al Gharafa Arena. Al Rayyan produced an impressive offensive performance to defeat Al Gharafa 104-82 in a high-tempo clash that saw momentum shift across all four quarters. Malik Carey led the charge with a remarkable 44 points, while Devin Morris Ebanks responded with 41 for Al Gharafa in a game defined by standout individual efforts. Al Arabi maintained their strong form with a commanding 104-73 victory over Qatar SC to complete the semi-final lineup. Despite Joshua Nicholas leading all scorers with 31 points for Qatar SC, Abdulrahman Yahya paced Al Arabi with 20 points in a balanced team display. Al Ahli will meet Al Arabi and Al Sadd will face Al Rayyan. Both games are scheduled for May 4. 

The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has unveiled the new design of the HH the Amir Cup basketball shield for the 2025-2026 season, alongside enhanced financial rewards to boost competition.At a press conference in Doha, QBF Secretary-General Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari said the redesign reflects efforts to raise the tournament's profile and increase competitiveness among clubs. He also announced improved prize money, with QAR 1.5 million for the winners and QAR 900,000 for the runners-up.The tournament begins with Qatar SC facing Al Khor in the preliminary round, followed by quarterfinal matches featuring top clubs including Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Arabi, and others. The semifinals will take place on May 4, and the final is scheduled for May 6. 

Al Sadd began their quest for a record-extending 20th Amir Cup crown with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Al Markhiya in a Round of 16 clash at Grand Hamad Stadium Saturday.After a goalless first half, Rafa Mujica broke the deadlock in the 75th minute from a penalty and then added a second goal, brilliantly assisted by Akram Afif. Mohamedou Naby Sarr scored Al Markhiya’s only goal in stoppage time, while the excitement reached its peak when a dangerous shot from Al Markhiya struck the post. Al Sadd will face Al Shamal in the quarter-finals.At Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Al Rayyan set up a quarter-final clash with Al Wakrah after beating Al Khor 2-0. Aleksandar Mitrovic gave them an early lead in the 12th minute, and Roger Guedes doubled it in the 43rd. The match also saw Al Khor’s Ambrose Uchebo sent off in the 53rd minute after receiving two yellow cards, one in each half.Earlier, defending champions Al Gharafa reached the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Al Kharaitiyat at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium. Dame Traore opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after converting a free kick delivered by Algerian Yacine Brahimi, while Spaniard Joselu added a second from a VAR-awarded penalty in the 33rd minute. Al Gharafa will face the winner of Sunday’s match between Umm Salal and Al Ahli. 

Al Duhail reached the Amir Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Al Waab in their round of 16 clash at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium Thursday. Al Wakrah also advanced after beating Al Sailiya by the same scoreline.Adel Boulbina put Al Duhail ahead from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, while Krzysztof Piatek sealed the win with a late strike in the 87th.Al Waab threatened early, with Ousseynou Gueye breaking into the area and forcing a save from goalkeeper Salah Zakaria in the seventh minute.The breakthrough came when Abdoulaye Bakayoko fouled inside the box, allowing Boulbina to convert from the spot and give Al Duhail a 1-0 lead at the break.Al Waab came close to leveling after halftime, but Bahaa Faisal’s powerful effort rattled the crossbar in the 52nd minute, as Al Duhail held firm before Piatek wrapped up the result late on.“We went into the match determined to win and reach the quarter-finals, given the importance of this tournament,” said Boulbina after the match. “In these games, the key is getting the result, and we did that. The season is still long, and our focus remains on the Amir Cup and the AFC Champions League.”Al Duhail will face the winners of the Al Arabi vs Al Shahania clash, scheduled for today at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, in the quarter-finals. Al Shamal will take on Qatar SC at Grand Hamad Stadium in the other match today.Meanwhile, second-half strikes from Omar Salah and Redouane Berkane secured Al Wakrah’s 2-0 win against Al Sailiya later in the evening. Salah capitalised on a defensive error to break the deadlock in the 58th minute, while Berkane sealed the victory five minutes before time.Al Wakrah will now meet either Al Rayyan or Al Khor, who will face each other at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium Saturday.

The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the schedule for the preliminary round of the Amir Cup, with the matches taking place on January 10 across four venues.The preliminary stage will be played in a knockout format, with four teams advancing to the Round of 16. Al Sailiya will face Al Muaither at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Al Markhiya will take on Muaither at Thani bin Jassim Stadium, Al Kharaitiyat will meet Al Bidda at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, while Al Waab will play Lusail at the same venue.All matches will be decided on a knockout basis. In the event of a draw at the end of regulation time, teams will contest 30 minutes of extra time, split into two 15-minute halves. If the tie remains unresolved, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout.Amir Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in Qatar football, which continues to attract strong interest from the sporting community and fans ahead of the latter stages of the competition.The match-ups are based on the final standings of the Second Division at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, with the first-placed team facing the eighth, the second playing the seventh, the third meeting the sixth, and the fourth taking on the fifth. The format was confirmed following the completion of the 14th and final round of the Second Division league.Al Sailiya finished top of the standings with 28 points, followed by Al Markhiya (25), Al Kharaitiyat (23), Al Waab (19), Lusail (18), Al Bidda (15), Muaither (12) and Al Muaither, who placed eighth with 11 points.
