Guardiola ‘couldn’t care less’ about Arsenal stumble

Pep Guardiola insists he “couldn’t care less” about Arsenal’s stumble letting Manchester City back into the Premier League title race. Guardiola’s side were in danger of being blown away by Arsenal after their inconsistent form left the Gunners in pole position. But second-placed City have been handed a lifeline by Arsenal’s damaging draws against Wolves and Brentford. They are now just five points behind Arsenal with a game in hand and a home match against Mikel Arteta’s men to come in April. If City win their remaining 12 matches they will be crowned champions for the fifth time in the last six seasons. But Guardiola is not getting carried away by the opportunity. Instead, he remains focused on today’s visit from Newcastle, when a win would close the gap on Arsenal to two points before the Gunners face Tottenham in the north London derby tomorrow. “I didn’t talk about the table, or our position or something like that. I could not care less,” Guardiola said. “I didn’t talk about that for one second. Just Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle. If you ask me this question with two or three games left, I will have your answer. It’s 12 games left, it’s an eternity.” Having won six titles during 10 years at City, Guardiola knows the final weeks of the season will bring more twists and turns. He also has experience of watching Arsenal let substantial leads slip away in the 2023 and 2024 title races, allowing City to snatch the trophy from their grasp. “Many things are going to happen until the end of the season. For now it is Newcastle, a rest and after it Leeds. It has always been like that,” he said. “Seventy per cent of the players are new, so they don’t have the experience to live these kinds of situations. An experience is to win tomorrow. It is only one. Arsenal were nine points (ahead) when we had a game in hand, so whenever everybody is on the same games played then after that we will see the difference. I understand you want to anticipate what is going to happen. That doesn’t count. It is Newcastle, that is all.” Arteta urges Arsenal to ‘write own destiny’ after title wobble Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta challenged spluttering Arsenal to start writing their “own destiny” in north London derby at Tottenham after losing control of the Premier League title race. The Gunners have finished as runners-up for the last three seasons and their latest untimely stumble has raised pointed questions about their ability to cope with the pressure of the title race. But Arteta is adamant his players can handle the tension, as long as they embrace the opportunity to make history. “What I have seen is a tremendous reaction again. When you lose points with the last kick of the game, in an unpredictable manner, nobody can really understand that. But this is football,” he said. “Life moves on, there’s nothing we can do. It is about what happens next. That was a chapter. In chapter 27, we draw against Wolves. In the next one it is about how we write our own destiny going forward.” Arsenal have squandered the lead in their last two matches, drawing 1-1 with Brentford and 2-2 at bottom-of-the-table Wolves. Failing to beat Wolves after establishing a two-goal lead was especially painful, with a mix-up between keeper David Raya and defender Gabriel Magalhaes sparking Tom Edozie’s stoppage-time equaliser. “The immediate reaction is tough. It was a shock to the system. We wanted to win and we couldn’t and we have to move on,” Arteta said. “But we have clear instructions. We have to live in the present. The present is beautiful, we are exactly where we want to be in every competition.” Arsenal have won just two of their last seven league games, but troubled Tottenham are in even worse form, with no wins in their previous eight top-flight matches.

Doue inspires PSG to comeback Champions League win in Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain recovered from a shambolic start as Desire Doue inspired a comeback from two goals down to beat Monaco 3-2 in the principality in the first leg of their Champions League knockout phase play-off tie on Tuesday.United States star Folarin Balogun opened the scoring after just 55 seconds and found the net again on 18 minutes to put Monaco in control against their French Ligue 1 rivals at the Stade Louis II.Vitinha then missed a chance for the reigning European champions to reduce the deficit when he had a penalty saved and last year's Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele came off injured before the half-hour mark, but his replacement Doue sparked the comeback.He scored and then helped set up Achraf Hakimi for the equaliser just before the break, and Monaco then had Aleksandr Golovin sent off right at the start of the second half. Doue then got the winner on 67 minutes."He is an incredible player and a different player. I am very pleased for him because he deserved it," PSG coach Luis Enrique told broadcaster Canal Plus."There is pressure on us to win and we like that pressure, but there are difficult moments in games that are hard to overcome," he added.The result keeps the tie alive going into the return leg in Paris next Wednesday, but PSG are now strong favourites to seal a place in the last 16.They came into this game having been knocked off top spot in the French league last weekend following a defeat at Rennes, with Lens replacing them at the summit.However, they are a huge 20 points clear of Monaco, who find themselves languishing in eighth due to an inability to put together a consistent run of form.Nevertheless, Monaco notably held Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at home during the league phase in Europe and also won 1-0 at home to PSG in Ligue 1 in November.Balogun double, Dembele injuryThis time they went in front as Balogun headed in from close range from a Golovin cross for the fastest goal ever conceded in a European tie by PSG.Monaco were in dreamland as they doubled their advantage when Balogun played a quick one-two with Maghnes Akliouche before running through to finish past goalkeeper Matfei Safonov.A shock result appeared on the cards, with PSG's title seemingly very much on the line, all the more so when Vitinha's penalty was saved by Philipp Koehn after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought down by Wout Faes.That was the fourth penalty out of their last five in the Champions League that PSG had failed to convert, and things got worse for them when Dembele - who had been a doubt pre-match and has had an injury-hit season - had to come off.Yet his withdrawal really turned out to be a blessing, as Doue entered the fray and had a devastating impact.The standout performer in PSG's 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in last season's final had been on the field barely two minutes when he controlled Bradley Barcola's pass in the box before smashing a left-foot shot low into the far corner.The leveller then came four minutes from the interval when a Doue shot was parried by Koehn, with Hakimi controlling the loose ball before applying the finish.Monaco's grip on the game was really gone within three minutes of the restart as Russian playmaker Golovin saw red following a VAR check for his challenge on Vitinha, granting PSG the extra man. The visitors took advantage as Warren Zaire-Emery laid the ball off for Doue to score his second of the night and make it 3-2 midway through the second half."I just did my job. We are pleased because the most important thing in games like these is just to win," Doue told Canal Plus.PSG will hope to finish off the tie next week, with the winners facing either Barcelona or Chelsea in the next round.It is a big ask now for Monaco, although they will likely be relieved to be heading to Paris with just a one-goal deficit after playing for so long with 10 men.

Sadd join Duhail in last 16 despite defeat to Al Ittihad

Al Sadd secured a place in the AFC Champions League Elite round of 16 despite a 4-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad Club at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium Tuesday.The big victory for Al Ittihad still allowed Al Sadd to claim the final last 16 spot from the West Zone, edging out fellow Qatari side Al Gharafa, who were eliminated after a 2-0 loss to Tractor FC.Qatar’s other representative, Al Duhail, also advanced to the last 16 following Tuesday’s outcomes. Al Duhail finished seventh in the West Zone with eight points, edging Al Sadd on goal difference.Al Sadd entered Tuesday’s match needing a win to advance, while Al Ittihad had already secured qualification.The Saudi side dominated early, testing goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham before breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute.Houssem Aouar pounced on a rebound to slot home, putting Al Sadd on the back foot. Eight minutes later, Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the lead, evading defenders and firing through Barsham’s legs.Pedro Miguel inadvertently added to Al Sadd’s woes with an own goal in the 33rd minute. Rafa Mujica pulled one back for Al Sadd before halftime, but Stephane Keller sealed Al Ittihad’s 4-1 victory in the 63rd minute.Despite the defeat, Al Sadd’s previous results and goal difference were sufficient to secure Round of 16 qualification, ensuring Qatar had two representatives advancing to the knockout stage."We are happy to qualify. Two months ago, the team was almost out of the tournament, and now we have made it. We will reassess and prepare for what comes next. Saudi clubs are currently the strongest in the AFC Champions League, which is natural," Al Sadd coach Roberto Mancini.On defeat to Al Ittihad, he added: "We were not happy with the result, but the team overcame the early difficulties and secured qualification despite a tough match against a strong opponent."Al Gharafa SC’s campaign, however, ended in disappointment in 10th place with six points. Facing Tractor FC at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium, the Cheetahs needed a win to keep their hopes alive but were controlled by the Iranian side for much of the match.Tractor broke the deadlock in the 61st minute after Al Gharafa failed to clear a rebound, with Mahdi Hashemnezhad finishing clinically. The visitors then doubled their advantage in the 81st minute through Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh, leaving Al Gharafa unable to respond and confirming their exit from the competition.

Enrique dismisses 'noise' around PSG before Monaco Champions League clash

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique dismissed any suggestions of dressing room disharmony as the reigning European champions prepared to put their continental title on the line this midweek against domestic rivals Monaco.PSG are struggling to rediscover the brilliant form they showed in the second half of last season, when they played breath-taking football on the way to winning the Champions League for the first time in their history.The club from the French capital were knocked off the top of the Ligue 1 table at the weekend after a 3-1 defeat away to Rennes allowed Lens to climb above them. That came after a start to 2026 which had already seen them go out of the French Cup to local rivals Paris FC and finish 11th in the league phase of the Champions League. Theirfailure to win any of their last three European games left them facing this play-off for a place in the last 16.After the defeat in Rennes, last year's Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele had a go at his colleagues as he suggested too many had stopped playing for the collective. "We need to play for Paris Saint-Germain if we are going to win matches, because if we all just play for ourselves it won't work and we won't win the trophies we want to win," Dembele said in a post-match TV interview. "Last season we put the club first before thinking about ourselves, so I think we need to start thinking like that again."Enrique was asked about those comments after arriving in Monaco Monday, on the eve of the Champions League play-off first leg against the principality side. "There is always noise around PSG and we just have to accept it," said the Spaniard, who said the defeat in Rennes was "cruel" on his side. "It is true that we would have liked to come into this game with a victory but now it is time for the Champions League and we are all motivated."PSG are strong favourites to beat a Monaco side who sit eighth in Ligue 1, 20 points behind their opponents. However, Monaco have found some form again recently after a poor run, and they beat PSG 1-0 when the teams last clashed, at the Stade Louis II in late November."We ‌can expect a match similar to the one we played, we’re not going to change anything because we're going to try to win this match,” Enrique added.He also dismissed concerns about facing a domestic rival in the Champions League. "It's football, it's the same thing, you have to try to do the same thing to win the match. What I hope is to see the best version of PSG."We started the Champions League last season with the same lack of efficiency, but when you look at the results we later had, it meant we were superior to our opponents, and that's what we're aiming for again. I'm sure we can ‌get back to that very quickly,” he added.Monaco coach Sebastien Pocognoli, who has a doubt over the fitness of French international midfielder Maghnes Akliouche insisted: "We need to believe we can get a result, otherwise there is no point playing the game."Monaco skipper Denis Zakaria: "If we are not at 100 percent and don't play the perfect game, it will be difficult for us."

Spurs sack Frank after miserable eight-month reign

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after fewer than eight months in charge following a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Tuesday, which left them a mere five points above the Premier League relegation zone.The north London side are 16th in the table and without a win in their past eight Premier League games – their worst such run since October 2008. Spurs have won just two of their past 17 league matches and collected only 12 points in that time.Frank, 52, replaced Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed in June just over two weeks after leading Spurs to victory in the Europa League final. The club hailed the former Brentford boss as "one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game" when they announced the Dane's appointment on a three-year deal.But a Tottenham statement issued said: "The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men's head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary."The statement also thanked Frank for his "unwavering commitment" and whished him "every success" in the future. Frank led Spurs to automatic qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League by finishing fourth in the group stage. But that was offset by a Premier League record of seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats this season, with Spurs also knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.Despite the Newcastle defeat, which saw frustrated home fans call for him to be "sacked in the morning", Frank was confident of remaining in charge after speaking to the Spurs hierarchy on Monday. "We understand we are not in a top position and we need to do everything we can to get out," said Frank after Tuesday's loss, with a 12-day gap until Tottenham are next in action, at home to Premier League leaders Arsenal in a north London derby on February 22. "I understand the frustration and the easiest thing is to point at me. That's part of the job unfortunately.He added: "I will work day and night to turn this around but it is not just one person. There is no doubt we need to improve and I need to be part of that."Frank spent seven years in charge of Brentford, guiding the club from the Championship to the Premier League in 2021 and keeping the west London side in the top division despite relatively meagre resources.Spurs finished 17th last season but qualified for the Champions League after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao -- their first major trophy for 17 years.Despite their struggles in the league under Postecoglou, the Australian's attacking style at least provided entertainment for long-suffering fans, in contrast to Frank's dour defensive game plan.Frank said earlier this month he shared the frustrations of supporters but he has also been hampered by a long list of injuries to creative players including James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus.Although considered a member of the Premier League's "Big Six", Tottenham have not been crowned champions of England since winning the old First Division title in the 1960/61 season – when they also did 'The Double' by lifting the FA Cup. Frank is the seventh manager to part ways with a Premier League club this season.

Guardiola seeks solution to Man City's second half struggles

Pep Guardiola said Tuesday Manchester City must address a habit of second half slumps if they are to retain any hope of chasing down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.City scored twice late on to snatch a 2-1 victory away to Liverpool on Sunday and move back within six points of the Gunners. However, those were the first goals Guardiola's men have scored in the second half of any Premier League game in 2026.City blew a 2-0 first half lead to draw 2-2 against Tottenham the week before and were again outplayed for large parts of the second half at Anfield after dominating the first 45 minutes. Victory over Fulham Wednesday will cut the gap at the top down to three points for 24 hours at least before Arsenal visit Brentford.But Guardiola said talk of a title race is premature until City iron out their inconsistency. "We have to be better and to be closer to make the first half in Anfield and not the second," Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference."What is the reason why in the second half still we are dropping our performance? Not (whether the gap is) three, four, five, six points because if we don't do that, we will not win. Maybe not against Fulham, maybe it'll be against Newcastle or maybe in the next game at Leeds."City's quest to win silverware in four different competitions was boosted by the return of Ruben Dias as a second half substitute against Liverpool. But in the absence of centre-backs Dias and Josko Gvardiola through injury, Abdukodir Khusanov has taken his chance for more first-team opportunities.Guardiola hailed the improvement of the young Uzbek defender, who arrived in Manchester just over a year ago with little English and took time to adapt. "I admit he doesn't speak like William Shakespeare, but he's getting better and better," added Guardiola."He's so, so fast. To recover that position is one of his attributes. But not just that he's intelligent. Normally when a player has this physicality he doesn't use what's going on (in his head) and it's always his physical condition, and he has both. That's why on the ball he's getting better. That's why he's encouraged to improve and he can improve. At that age and he's open minded and I said recently, 'City have a player in central defence for many, many years'."Guardiola said it does not help to pay attention to title race speculation before every game, and he focuses entirely on beating his ‌next opponents. "Every time over the past weeks and months when I go before the game for an interview, (it's) ‍always if you lose you are losing everything and are going to disappear from the planet earth and stuff," Guardiola said. "So what I am saying is what do you have to do to beat Fulham?"City, seeking their seventh English top-flight title in Guardiola's decade-long tenure, ‌have won only two of their last seven league games, allowing Arsenal to pull further ahead with four wins in the same period. "The distance is not ‍huge but considering how Arsenal is doing, six ‌points is a lot. Next game against a team like (Fulham) who every year is better and better, so we'll see," Guardiola said.City had to dig deep to snatch a 5-4 win at Fulham in December, and Guardiola praised the way the London side have improved under Marco Silva since earning their promotion to the Premier League in 2022."The movements they do... they're really good. The patterns and the quality they have, the composure of the play, the speed they have. Marco is one of the top, top, top managers ‌I face. Destined to be one of the top in a few years for sure," Guardiola said.

Liverpool performances not up to the club's standards, says Slot

A string of setbacks in the Premier League has ‌left Liverpool manager Arne Slot disheartened that his players ‌have not lived up ‍to the club's high standards in what he described as his most challenging season ever. The champions have won only one of their last seven Premier League games, missing out ‍on victory due to late goals by Fulham and Manchester City. Sixth-placed Liverpool are 17 points below leaders Arsenal."A draw feels like a loss at this club. That's definitely not easy for players as well because they know what the standards of Liverpool mean, and we are not performing to the standards of ‌Liverpool at the moment and they feel that disappointment," Slot told reporters."Every game it feels as though we are going to win ‍it but it doesn't happen... (the players) feel performance ‌wise that they can compete with any other team in any league in the world. But reality is that we don't perform to Liverpool standards."Asked if this was the toughest season he has faced, Slot agreed. "That's fair to say by a mile. All of the other seasons I have managed there were only positives, I don't think I have ever lost two games in a row," said Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season. "It's an exception for me this season and ‌it is for the players, they are not used to losing a lot or having a lot of draws. I ‍am not used to that either."Slot said he wondered how much of Liverpool's struggles were down to bad luck. "The amount of times we have conceded late goals in extra time is far more than usual, is it bad luck or are we to blame? I have tried many different things, I have made defensive substitutions and the ball went in," the Dutchman said.Slot said today's visit to Sunderland, the only Premier League team still unbeaten at home this season, would be another big test. "They have already played against City and Arsenal at home so that tells you how good a season they are having and how strong they are at home," Slot said. "There's still a possibility we can do something special this season as well."

Al Sadd beat Tractor to keep last 16 hopes alive

Al Sadd breathed life into their AFC Champions League Elite hopes with a 2-0 win against Tractor FC at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha Tuesday. The win moved Qatar’s Al Sadd to eight points while it was Tractor’s first defeat, with the Iran side having already confirmed last 16 qualification.Al Sadd’s early high pressing game almost came to fruition in the ninth minute when Akram Afif whipped in a cross for Roberto Firmino, whose glancing header drifted just wide off the left post. The Iranian side made their presence felt five minutes later with Domagoj Drozdek getting at the end of a counter-attacking move, forcing Al Sadd keeper Meshaal Barsham into a save.Al Sadd refused to let Tractor settle as they stayed on the offensive with Rafa Mujica, Giovani and Boualem Khoukhi all threatening from inside the box.Tractor continued to look dangerous on the counter and they almost punished Al Sadd in the 32nd minute when Drozdek set up Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh at the top of the box, only for the midfielder to drag his effort wide.Al Sadd came knocking on Tractor’s door in the 52nd minute with Hashim Ali seeing his deflected shot from inside the area sail over the bar, while Barsham stayed sharp to tip over Hosseinzadeh’s effort off a counter-attacking move.The Qatari side’s positive approach saw them take the lead in the 61st minute after Afif nodded Pedro Miguel’s cross into the path of Mujica, who controlled beautifully before slotting past Tractor keeper Alireza Beiranvand.Barsham, who had a quiet first half, stayed calm to deflect Regi Lushkja’s stinging shot in the 73rd minute before Tibor Halilovic wasted another opportunity for Tractor to draw level when he dragged his effort just wide off the right post.Al Sadd came close to netting their second in the 83rd minute but Claudinho saw his close-range effort saved by Beiranvand before Hashim sent the follow-up over the bar.Firmino guaranteed the victory for Al Sadd in the 89th minute after Claudinho set-up the Brazilian at the far post for an easy finish. Champions in 2011, Al Sadd will target another three points in their final League Stage clash against Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad Club, with the hope it will be enough to take them through.Al Sadd coach Roberto Mancini praised his side’s performance, describing the match as difficult but highlighting a strong second-half display. “The match was tough and we performed well, especially in the second half,” Mancini said at the post-match press conference. “We created many chances after the break and faced an opponent that had not lost in the tournament this season. It was very important for us to secure this win over Tractor.”He added that Al Sadd will continue to fight for their chances of progression, saying the team will hold on to its hopes going forward.Meanwhile, Al Sadd star Akram Afif, who was named man of the match, thanked the fans for their support. “I thank the Al Sadd supporters who stood by us in this difficult game,” Afif said. “This was our second victory and an important one that we really needed. Our qualification chances are still open and we will keep pushing until the final match.”

Duhail fight back to hold Sharjah

Qatar's Al Duhail and Sharjah settled for a 1-1 draw which kept their AFC Champions League Elite last 16 hopes just about alive. The stalemate took both sides to eight points, with their fates to be decided in next week’s final round of league stage matches.Both teams came into the tie needing victory, with Al Duhail having gone down 2-1 against Iran side Tractor SC last time out, while Sharjah fell to a solitary goal against Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal.The home side threatened in the sixth minute with Jean-Charles Castelletto sending his glancing header off Benjamin Bourigeaud’s cross just wide of the right post, while Sharjah responded three minutes later with Matheus Saldanha forcing Al Duhail keeper Salah Zakaria into a save.Al Duhail exposed Sharjah again a minute later when Salah Zakaria spilled Edmílson Junior’s close-range shot into the path of Adil Boulbina who, however, was flagged offside.Another chance went begging for the Qatari side in the 12th minute when Edmílson Junior slipped through into the box and floated the ball for an unmarked Boubakary Soumare at the far post who, however, crashed his shot against the left post.The missed opportunities came back to haunt Al Duhail when Zakaria brought down Luanzinho inside the box, allowing Igor Coronado to convert from the spot in the 41st minute.Boulbina and Krzysztof Piatek caused problems for Sharjah early in the second half, while Maro Katinic couldn’t find the target from Coronado’s cross in the 50th minute with Luanzinho flashing his headed attempt agonisingly wide 10 minutes later from a fast break.Al Duhail were left frustrated again in the 62nd minute when Luanzinho fed an unmarked Boulbina, whose effort was ruled offside.There was, however, joy for the Algerian midfielder as he equalised from the spot in the 81st minute after being brought down by Rafael Pereira.Shaheen Abdalla had initially saved the effort, diving to his right to stop the effort but the penalty had to be retaken as the keeper had come off his line, with Boulbina making no mistake with his second attempt as the points were shared.

Qatar named ‘Guest of Honour’ for 58th Cairo Int’l Book Fair

Amid widespread acclaim for Doha’s cultural contributions, Egypt’s Minister of Culture Dr Ahmed Fouad Hanno officially handed over the ‘Guest of Honour’ mantle for the 58th Cairo International Book Fair (2027) to Qatar’s ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed al-Thani. The ceremony took place during the closing events of the 57th edition of the fair, which launched on January 21 under the theme “One who stops reading for an hour falls centuries behind.” This year’s edition featured Romania as the ‘Guest of Honour’ and saw a distinguished participation from the Qatari Ministry of Culture alongside several Qatari publishing houses. In this context, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Doha International Book Fair Jassim Ahmed al-Buainain confirmed to Qatar News Agency (QNA) the ministry’s full readiness for the upcoming role. He emphasised that the Cairo International Book Fair remains one of the Arab world’s premier events in terms of international participation, publishing volume, and its prestigious cultural programme. Al-Buainain noted that the 58th edition is set to be exceptional, adding that Qatar’s robust presence in the current session reflects ongoing efforts to bolster the nation’s footprint on regional and global cultural stages, raise awareness of its heritage, and highlight Doha’s growing contributions to the global cultural movement. Director-General of Qatar’s Dar Al Kutub and First Vice-President of the Arab Publishers Association Ibrahim al-Bohashem al-Sayed described the designation as a “crowning achievement” for Qatar’s consistent and distinguished involvement in the fair. He highlighted Cairo’s fair as one of the oldest and largest in the world, maintaining its prestige since its inception in 1969 as part of the elite circuit of Arab fairs, alongside Beirut (1951), Baghdad (1957), and Doha (1972). He assured that preparations for Cairo 2027 would receive full support to match Qatar’s cultural standing and to strengthen bridges of co-operation with Egypt. He expressed confidence that the Guest of Honour showcase would be extraordinary, reflecting the evolution and diversity of Qatar’s cultural scene. He further lauded the significant support provided by the Ministry of Culture, led by His Excellency the Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, which has facilitated a qualitative leap in Qatar’s participation over the last three years in terms of pavilion quality and accompanying events. President of the Arab Publishers Association Mohamed Rashad also praised the selection, noting that Qatar’s pavilion this year offered an impressive display of the nation’s literature and intellectual thought. He pointed out that the Qatari writers and intellectuals present demonstrated high professionalism, effectively articulating Doha’s cultural mission. Rashad highlighted the growing interest in Qatari participation, marked by an increase in the number of participating publishing houses this year. He also commended Qatar’s influential role within the Arab Publishers Association, specifically noting the re-election of Ibrahim al-Bohashem al-Sayed as first vice-president and the election of Dr Aisha Jassim al-Kuwari (CEO of Roza Publishing) to the board of directors and as chair of the Arab Relations Committee. These milestones, he concluded, reflect the commitment of Qatari publishers to playing a dynamic and proactive role on both the Arab and international stages.
