Qatar Chamber held a virtual meeting with the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (ABLCC), attended by Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli, Qatar Chamber Board Member and Vice President of the ABLCC; Philippe Dessoy, President of the ABLCC; and Qaisar Hijazin, Secretary General of the ABLCC.The meeting focused on expanding trade and investment relations between Qatar and Belgium, highlighting key opportunities for cross-border business collaboration. Discussions also centered on revitalizing the role of the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (ABLCC) to drive deeper economic ties and strengthen commercial engagement with the European Union.Speaking at the meeting, Mohamed Al Obaidli highlighted vast partnership opportunities between Qatari and Belgian businesses across multiple sectors, noting that Qatar's world-class infrastructure, competitive investment climate, and strategic global connectivity reinforce its status as a regional business hub. Al Obaidli stressed the need to activate the ABLCC's mechanisms, elevating its role to expand trade flows and open dynamic new communication channels for investors on both sides.For his part, Philippe Dessoy said that there are several leading Qatari investments in Belgium across a number of sectors, noting that there remains considerable scope for further Qatari investments in Belgium and Europe more broadly. Dessoy urged business leaders to capitalize on Belgium's strategic position within the European Union to deepen economic ties between the Arab world and the EU. He also stressed the importance of stepping up trade delegations and bilateral business visits to uncover emerging joint ventures and investment opportunities. For his part, Qaisar Hijazin noted that the Chamber is preparing to host a major economic conference in Brussels next year. He invited Qatar Chamber to participate in the conference, which would contribute to strengthening economic and investment cooperation between Qatari and Belgian companies. 

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who attended the opening match of the Under-20 Women's World Cup in Katowice on Saturday, remained tight-lipped about whether he regrets his abandoned proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup.The event is the first tournament organised by world soccer's ruling body since the Swiss administrator called off the plan, which valued the commercial rights of the World Cup and other FIFA tournaments at $20 billion.The proposal was abandoned in late July following a fierce backlash and boycott threats from regional governing bodies, including Europe's UEFA and major stakeholders in the sport."I'm very happy to be here in beautiful Poland, in Katowice, a fantastic setting for this Under-20 FIFA Women's World Cup. It's great," Infantino said at the opening game between hosts Poland and Argentina."This is what we do, this is about giving opportunities, giving chances to teams with players, talents from all over the world, increasing number of participants." 'NOT TODAY, NOT HERE'Infantino did not answer questions about whether he regretted the last six weeks."You know, there will be a lot to say, but there will be a right place and a right time to say this," he said."It's not today, it's not here. But, here today we are enjoying football."On Thursday, FIFA accused UEFA of launching a smear campaign and argued that its opposition to the selloff was motivated by a desire to preserve European football's dominance.Infantino was in Katowice with senior members of FIFA including Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom and refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina.UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, who had previously ruled out running against Infantino in FIFA's presidential election, did not attend the game.Infantino gave another indication that he could fight next March's presidential election on the basis that he is best placed to continue to spread wealth to poorer nations."We are continuing at FIFA to work to give every corner of the world a chance, an opportunity for dignity, to find ways and means for them to become better and to participate and to celebrate football," he said. 

Tadej Pogacar will end his season prematurely after undergoing surgery on a fractured collarbone sustained in a crash at the Vuelta a Espana, he said on Saturday, with the injury ruling him out of this month's world championships."Of course, this isn't the way I wanted my season to finish. Right now, the most important thing is to recover properly and give my body the time it needs," Pogacar said in a UAE Team Emirates-XRG statement.The five-time Tour de France champion crashed out of the Vuelta last weekend and was taken to hospital after a heavy fall on stage eight. He also suffered a concussion and cervical fracture, along with multiple cuts and bruises.Pogacar had been leading by a massive three minutes and 50 seconds a week into the 21-day race and was the overwhelming favourite for victory in his bid to complete a career clean sweep of the three Grand Tours.In July, Pogacar joined an elite club of five-time Tour de France winners with Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.The 27-year-old was bidding to become only the fourth rider to complete a Tour-Vuelta double in the same season."It has been a season with many special moments and I'm proud of what we achieved together. Now I'll focus on getting healthy, supporting the guys from home, and coming back next year ready for what's ahead," said Pogacar.The Slovenian star had planned to target a record-equalling third world road race title in Montreal later this month before eyeing a sixth straight Giro di Lombardia victory in October. 'THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE'"Following his crash, there is absolutely no pressure for Tadej to return to racing this year. His health and recovery are the priority," said UAE Emirates team principal Mauro Gianetti.Medical director Adrian Rotunno said Pogacar was recovering well, but there was no benefit in rushing his return to racing."Tadej is progressing well following surgery and we are very satisfied with his recovery to this point," he said."However, given the combination of his injuries... we have taken the decision, together with Tadej, that he will not return to competition this season."The team also announced that Pogacar had signed a contract extension through to the end of the 2032 season."From the beginning, this team has felt like home for me. We have grown together over the years and shared some incredible moments, so I'm very happy to extend my contract until 2032," said Pogacar."There is still a lot I want to achieve in this sport and I believe this is the right place to do it." 

Belgian Wout van Aert won his first Vuelta a Espana stage of the year when the Visma-Lease a Bike rider beat Valentin Paret-Peintre in a two-man race to the finish line in stage 13 on Friday.Points classification leader Van Aert launched a decisive attack with about four kilometres to go, with Paret-Peintre on his wheel. Soudal Quick-Step's Paret-Peintre tried to move ahead in the last 200 metres but Van Aert pushed past the Frenchman to claim victory.Red jersey holder Enric Mas did not challenge for the stage and spent most of the 192.8-km ride from Almunecar to Loja in the peloton. He finished three minutes later with the bunch, retaining a lead of one minute and 45 seconds over Primoz Roglic, who remained second overall."It was, I think, a very difficult stage to control... we kept attacking and the final attack worked," said the 31-year-old Van Aert, a three-time cyclo-cross world champion, who won the Tour de France points classification in 2022.The medium-mountainous stage, one of the longest in the race, saw attacks from the start. RIDERS JOSTLE FOR POSITIONSAs riders jostled for position, Gregor Muehlberger, who was ninth overall, crashed during a climb. The Austrian Decathlon CMA CGM rider, who has been setting the pace for teammate Felix Gall's pursuit of the red jersey, got back up and continued but was later forced to abandon the race.About an hour into the stage, a large group broke away from the peloton, and Van Aert was part of it from the start.The Belgian looked to pull ahead with just over 20 km remaining but Vincenzo Albanese helped to keep the green jersey holder in check.Van Aert waited for his opportunity and clinched victory with another attack near the end."It was close enough to the finish to be worth it and with Valentin I had a nice companion... it was nice to battle to the line together," Van Aert added.Van Aert's teammate and three-time stage winner Matthew Brennan reached the finish line 24 seconds later to claim third place.A mountainous 152.7-km ride from Jaen to Sierra de la Pandera will test the riders on Saturday.

Femke Broeders-Bol has achieved what many athletes can but dream: swapping with success from a discipline in which she was a two-time world champion to the 800m, one of the most ruthless running distances.The 26-year-old won 400m hurdles golds at last year's Tokyo world champs and the 2023 edition in Budapest. She is a two-time Olympic bronze medallist in the hurdles and left the 2024 Paris Games with an additional gold and silver in the 4x400m relays.US rival Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone came away with back-to-back Olympic hurdles golds and also the world record to overshadow the Dutchwoman on the ultimate stage. While the American has clocked the three fastest times ever in the 400m hurdles, Broeders-Bol has four in the top nine.The Dutch athlete opted to compete in the 800m just as a pregnant McLaughlin-Levrone stepped away from the sport - her daughter Savannah was born in July. But it is not something that Broeders-Bol has regretted for one minute. Werro in formThe women's 800m has been one of the stand-out events of the season, Switzerland's Audrey Werro inching ever closer to the oldest world record in track and field: the 1min 53.28sec over two laps set by Jarmila Kratochvilova of the then-Czechoslovakia in Munich back in 1983. Werro has gone third fastest in the all-time list with a winning 1:53.70 at last week's Zurich Diamond League.Broeders-Bol, second, improved the Dutch national record to 1:54.71 - the 15th fastest time ever run over the distance and an astonishing achievement for someone new to the event. "I never expected to go this fast in the first season," she said ahead of the Diamond League finals in Brussels."It's a couple of years' plan and I was hoping to get to that level eventually, but to be there already this quickly is a very nice surprise." The transition from hurdles to the "very unpredictable" 800m had been a "very big experience", she added."In the hurdles you also race others but you always have your own hurdles. Here you're together in a lane after 100 metres." Asked where she could progress, the ever-humble Broeders-Bol replied: "I think pretty much in everything except speed!"My speed is very good for an 800m runner. My endurance is very bad and I think the tactical part is still something I need to learn. For me it really feels like I'm still at the beginning of this journey and there's so much to learn." Overcoming fearBroeders-Bol added that she had learned not to underestimate herself. "I was quite scared of the 800. At one point my coach told me I had too much respect for the 800 and also in a way for my competitors, putting everyone and everything on a pedestal, because I didn't know where I was at."There's a lot of more things out of your control and it's really a race against each other until the line and I think it's a lot of fun." With the 800m in a golden age of runners also including Britain's Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, Broeders-Bol expressed hope that she and her rivals "can push the event further together"."We are in an era where there are so many amazing girls to run against," with Werro, Hodgkinson and the Dutch runner completing the European podium in Birmingham last month. Sweden's world and Olympic pole vault champion Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis, who registered 7.15m in the long jump as a 17-year-old and 10.37sec in a one-off 100m race in 2024, dubbed Broeders-Bol "amazing"."If there's anybody that's going to do that transition as well as somebody could do it, it would be her, just based on her professionalism, really," Duplantis said. "She's such a student of the sport and the event, and she never leaves anything to chance. She's so on top of everything that it's really an inspiration."Triple world sprint gold medallist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden added that "what Femke has done is something that should be talked about a little more". "It's really impressive what she's been able to do this year, and I'm excited to see what she does going forward."
