Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari held a meeting with Stanley Kachabe, chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Zambia, Monday at the chamber’s Lusail headquarters.The meeting discussed trade relations between the two countries and ways to develop them, as well as investment opportunities available in Zambia and ways to encourage Qatari investors to invest in the country.Al-Kuwari said Qatari investors are interested in investing in Africa, which offers promising investment opportunities across various sectors. He noted that Qatar Chamber supports and encourages businesspeople to explore opportunities across the continent, particularly in Zambia, which offers attractive investment prospects.Kachabe said Zambia welcomes Qatari investors and provides a range of investment incentives and facilities in the mining and minerals, tourism, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure sectors.He invited Qatar Chamber and Qatari businesspeople to participate in the second edition of the ‘Invest Zambia International Conference’, scheduled from December 9 to 11, 2026.Kachabe noted that the conference provides a valuable opportunity for Qatari investors to learn about investment opportunities in Zambia, hold B2B meetings with Zambian companies, explore partnerships in sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture, industry, and infrastructure, and identify opportunities for expansion into African markets. 

The third season of JR. NBA Qatar, organized and hosted by Education City in partnership with the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), has officially commenced. The program reflects an ongoing collaboration aimed at expanding basketball participation among youth and providing a sporting environment that helps develop skills while promoting confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.The launch of the third season builds on the successful partnership between Education City and QBF, which focuses on supporting young talent and providing regular opportunities for boys and girls to play and develop their basketball abilities in an environment that combines competition and learning. This collaboration further strengthens the sport’s presence among youth age groups across Qatar.This year’s edition attracted more than 1,200 aspiring basketball players from across the country during the player selection event held prior to the start of the competition. Participants were assigned to competing teams named after NBA franchises, and match schedules were finalized in preparation for the season.The third season is being held at Multaqa, the Education City Student Center, from September 25 to November 7, 2026. The competition has expanded to include three age categories: Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16, with approximately 80 teams participating. The expanded format allows a greater number of players to experience organized competition while enhancing their technical and physical development.Participating teams bear the names of several NBA franchises, including the San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, providing participants with an experience that mirrors the atmosphere and structure of the NBA.The program also features a series of practical training sessions designed for all participating age groups, with the objective of developing fundamental basketball skills while reinforcing the values of teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and self-confidence both on and off the court.QBF’s support for the program reflects its commitment to strengthening the foundation of basketball development in the country and creating opportunities for emerging talent to gain valuable experience through high-quality sporting programs and initiatives. These efforts contribute to the continued growth of basketball across youth categories in Qatar.The program also aligns with the strategic objectives of QBF for the 2025-2030 period, which emphasize culture and legacy, sporting excellence, sustainability, and innovation. These priorities support the ongoing development of Qatar’s basketball ecosystem and help provide sustainable sporting experiences for future generations.Mohammed Saad Al Mughisib, President of QBF, emphasized that the continuation of the program for a third consecutive season highlights the importance of the partnership with Education City and the valuable opportunities it provides for developing players’ skills and strengthening their connection with the sport.JR. NBA Qatar competitions offer participants a comprehensive sporting experience that combines training and competition while reinforcing the core values associated with sport. The program contributes to the development of a new generation of basketball players and supports the continued growth and popularity of the game among young people in the State of Qatar.

Qatar has participated in a panel discussion on "Hitting Crime Where It Hurts: Following the Money to Disrupt Transnational Organised Crime, Fraud, Corruption and Terrorism", held on the sidelines of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, in Abu Dhabi.His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the Qatar Central Bank Sheikh Ahmed bin Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan al-Thani represented Qatar at the congress and at the panel discussion. 

Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), founded by Qatar Foundation (QF), opened the seventh edition of Career Village Tuesday at KidZania Doha. Qatar’s largest career exploration programme brings together more than 40 public and private sector employers.The event runs through September 28-30 and is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Labour, and the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau. High school students from public, private, and international schools are participating through prearranged school visits and a structured training programme.Interactive exhibits, simulations, workshops, and conversations with professionals introduce students to what different careers involve, their requirements, and the educational pathways that lead to them. These activities help students explore their interests and begin planning their education and careers based on what they learn and experience.Participating organisations represent education, energy and utilities, technology, healthcare, aviation, security, media, tourism, and other key sectors. The event also connects academic and career counsellors and educators with sector experts, providing information and insights they can use to guide students.Career Village is part of QCDC’s portfolio of job-shadowing and experiential learning programmes, designed to build career awareness through direct exposure to the world of work at different stages of students’ education. 

Msheireb Museums, the French Institute of Qatar and the French Embassy in Qatar jointly organised Poetry Day, an evening of literature, cinema and cultural dialogue celebrating the work and legacy of the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.The programme included a screening of the short film "An Orange from Jaffa", followed by a panel discussion on its inspirations.On the sidelines, Omar Khalifah, associate professor of history and chair of international history at Georgetown University in Qatar, told Gulf Times:"One of the greatest things about Mahmoud Darwish is that he developed so much throughout his career that it is impossible to talk about a single Mahmoud Darwish. There are multiple Mahmoud Darwishes; this is part of his significance for Palestinians. You can find Mahmoud Darwish as a common reference through which you can comment on multiple encounters and experiences that Palestinians go through. His vast repertoire of poetry allowed him to be that lens, a refuge that people go to, not necessarily to find meanings, because sometimes there is none. What is the meaning of this violence in Gaza? But to find solace, to find words as a refuge."Khalifah added: "I remember even before this genocide, the first Gaza war started in December 2008, only a few months after Mahmoud Darwish passed away in August 2008. I felt that absence so enormously. I felt at that moment I needed Mahmoud Darwish again, not to turn wounds into words, because sometimes it is impossible, but to give us a kind of refuge, some solace, to soothe us down, to make us feel that there is some meaning perhaps that will come after this. At that moment I felt that we are poetically orphaned because of Mahmoud Darwish's absence.""This acquired a greater meaning as years went by, culminating in the genocide that we are witnessing now without Mahmoud Darwish. One would wonder what Mahmoud Darwish would have written had he experienced it. Maybe he is lucky he did not experience this moment; he passed away before, but as Palestinians we always feel that we needed him to provide us with something," he concluded. 

Qatar Monday became the launchpad for a pan-Arab drive to raise standards in classrooms across 22 countries, with the rollout in Doha of the Arab Model for Quality and Excellence in Education and a companion programme to train the region's educational leaders.The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) launched the initiative in partnership with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education. The event was attended by Her Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed al-Khater, together with senior officials, representatives of international organisations, educational leaders and specialists.The stakes were underlined by UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Prof Qun Chen, who said the world is short of more than 44mn teachers, 4mn of them in the Arab region. He described the Arab Model as a practical framework for strengthening education systems in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).His Excellency the MoEHE Undersecretary Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi called the model the embodiment of joint Arab action and an ambitious vision for education systems that must keep pace with rapid change.Quality, he said, is no longer an add-on but an integrated institutional approach built on careful planning, efficient performance, continuous measurement and decisions grounded in data and evidence. The model respects the particular character of Arab societies while drawing on the best global practice.Al-Nuaimi said Qatar places education at the forefront of its national priorities, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the ministry's Strategy 2024-2030. He pointed to the country's record in international assessments, including its top ranking among Arab states in the 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and its advances in successive TIMSS and PISA cycles.He stressed that the accompanying training programme is central to equipping educational leaders and staff and to embedding a culture of continuous improvement.Dr Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim al-Medaires, Director-General of the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education in Saudi Arabia and a member of the model's Higher Supervisory Committee, described its arrival in Qatar as a watershed in turning Arab education agreements into practice inside schools and institutions.He praised Doha for hosting the launch, noting that the model was adopted at the Conference of Arab Ministers of Education in January 2025. Al-Medaires urged that quality be pursued as a preventive, continuous investment in people, with emphasis on knowledge, skills and, above all, early childhood.Dr Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) and also a member of the Higher Supervisory Committee, welcomed Qatar's hosting and said education quality had become a strategic issue bound up with building human capital, fostering innovation and keeping pace with artificial intelligence and fast-moving technology.Dr Fatima al-Ruwais, Assistant Director-General of the UNESCO regional centre and a committee member, explained that the model is aligned with leading international standards and rests on four weighted pillars: forward-looking vision (15%), governance and performance management (15%), educational performance (30%) and outcomes (40%).Its 19 standards span the entire education system and place at its heart an empowered learner who remains rooted in their own identity, she said.Al-Ruwais also announced "The Teacher We Want" initiative, along with a workshop from October 5 to 8 to examine standards and specifications for the teacher of the future. The long-term ambition, she said, is to turn the Arab Model into a global quality benchmark under shared Arab leadership. 

Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has underscored the robust Tanzania-Qatar ties and expressed interest in developing these relations further, particularly in private-sector cooperation and investments.Nchemba announced this during a meeting Sunday with a Qatar Chamber delegation, headed by first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari, in the presence of board member Shaheen bin Lahdan al-Mohannadi. Also present at the meeting were Qatar’s ambassador to Tanzania, Fahad bin Rashid al-Muraikhi, and his diplomatic counterpart, Habibu Awesi Mohamed.The Prime Minister said there is significant potential for cooperation between the two countries that can be harnessed to benefit both economies, noting that Tanzania offers investment opportunities in key sectors, including food security, energy and infrastructure.Al-Kuwari welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar, noting that it would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly at the private-sector level.He noted that Tanzania is rich in natural resources and investment opportunities across various sectors, making it a promising investment destination and encouraging Qatari investors to explore and invest in these opportunities. Al-Kuwari added that Qatari business owners are interested in investing in Tanzania, particularly in sectors offering attractive investment incentives, noting the possibility of organising a Qatari business delegation to visit Tanzania and explore these opportunities firsthand.During the meeting, Ebrahim Mafuru, director general of the Tanzania Trade and Investment Authority, highlighted the key features of the Tanzanian economy, economic and trade cooperation between Qatar and Tanzania, major products that could be exported to Qatar, and investment opportunities available across various sectors.He also outlined key sectors open to Qatari investors, including agriculture and food processing, energy and LNG, minerals, livestock, the blue economy, tourism and hospitality, as well as infrastructure, including ports, logistics and special economic zones.

 Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur met with His Excellency Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Somalia Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi.During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation.

His Excellency Governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani met on Sunday with Minister of Finance of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mohamed Lamine Lebbou.During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to enhance them in financial and banking sectors. 

The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) organised a meeting, in co-operation with the unit for following up on programmes for persons with disabilities at the Da'wah and Religious Guidance Department of the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, on media and its impact on the lives of the blind.The meeting addressed several topics related to media skills, during which Supervisor of Qatar Holy Qur'an Radio, Abdullah al-Buainain, reviewed his beginnings in the media field, the key milestones of his professional career, and the challenges he had faced, emphasising that media proficiency does not rely on talent alone but rather combining training, practice, and the the honing of skills.He also discussed the importance of reading, self-education, text comprehension, and subject-matter expertise for media professionals, in addition to delivery and presentation skills.Al-Buainain stressed the importance of media professionals adhering to values, principles, integrity, credibility and professionalism, as well as verifying information and its sources before publishing or circulating it, advising to consider the impact of the information prior to publication, assessing its potential utility versus the harm it might cause to others.The Supervisor of Qatar Holy Qur'an Radio concluded the meeting by explaining to the attendees, the use of equipment and technologies used in the radio studio and the process of preparing, coordinating, and compiling media content, while also introducing aspects of the radio hosting experience and the nature of work within it.The meeting is organised as part of the Center's commitment to providing programs and events that contribute to developing its members' skills and capabilities, enhancing their presence across various fields, and supporting their active participation in society.
