Qatar's economy maintained growth in the third quarter of 2025, with real GDP rising by 2.9% compared to the third quarter of 2024. This growth was driven primarily by non-hydrocarbon activities, which expanded by 4.4%, according to a statement issued by the National Planning Council (NPC) on Sunday.Real GDP estimates for the third quarter of 2025 reached QAR 186.1 billion at constant prices, compared with QAR 180.9 billion in the third quarter of 2024.Non-hydrocarbon activities accounted for 65.5% of real GDP, with value added reaching QAR 121.9 billion in the third quarter of 2025, compared to QAR 116.8 billion in the same period of 2024.This represents a year-on-year increase of 4.4%, in line with the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) and Qatar National Vision 2030.Within the non-hydrocarbon economy, the fastest-growing activities on a year-on-year basis were construction (9.1%), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (8.9%), and accommodation and food service activities (6.4%).The expansion reflects rising domestic demand, increased visitor activity, and the continued rollout of infrastructure and public-sector projects, with positive spillover effects across services and trade.HE Secretary General of NPC, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, affirmed that these results reflect 'the resilience of the Qatari economy and the continuity of the path of economic diversification, as it achieves real growth […] driven by the strong performance of non-hydrocarbon activities […]. This performance underscores the success of economic and development policies in enhancing the contribution of productive and service sectors, in line with the targets of the Third National Development Strategy and strengthens the national economy's ability to achieve sustainable and balanced growth over the medium and long term.'Overall, 15 of 17 economic activities recorded positive real growth in the third quarter of 2025, demonstrating the resilience of Qatar's economic base.The NPC's National Statistics Center continues to refine its methods for measuring GDP, with recent revisions applied to the estimates of the third quarter of 2024.As part of ongoing efforts to align national accounts with international best practices (System of National Accounts 2008-2025), a comprehensive revision of Qatar's national accounts is underway and scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2026.

The activities of the 17th edition of Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2026) will start on Thursday, Jan 1, and will continue until Jan 24 at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine area.The festival is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, and it is supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund 'Daam'.Muteb al-Qahtani, director of Championships at the Al-Qannas Qatari Society and chairman of the Marmi Festival, revealed that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will signal the launch of the festival on the evening of Jan 1, 2026, with the first group.He explained that the championship is dedicated to Shaheen falcon chicks, where a homing pigeon and a falcon are released. If the falcon manages to catch or corner the pigeon at a specific location, it is declared the winner and falconer is awarded QR100,000, in addition to qualifying for the final to compete for a Lexus car. He noted that the number of groups in the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship for this edition is 18.He added that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will continue with the second group on the following day, Jan 2. On the same day, the qualifying rounds of the Tal’a Championship for groups 1 to 5 will begin in the morning.He explained that the championship features 30 groups and is based on the falcon’s visual strength in spotting prey, as a houbara bustard is placed 2km from the falcon’s location. The falcon that launches first, lands, and captures the prey qualifies. On Jan 3, the qualifiers for groups six to 10 will take place, while in the evening, the Promising Falconer Championship will be held in parallel with the qualifying rounds of the Saluki Race Championship.The chairman of the Marmi Festival noted that the organising committee opened online registration for promising falconers on Dec 25 which will continue until 11pm on Jan 1, pointing out that the championship is open to the 6–15 age group. The competition will be in the Da’w event over a distance of 200m for the following categories: Tab’a and Shawayhina (wild or bred), and Qarmousha, Koubaj, and Wokri (wild or bred).Al-Qahtani further stated that the Tal’a Championship qualifiers for groups 11 to 15 will take place on Jan 4, groups 16 to 20 on Jan 5, groups 21 to 25 on Jan 6, and groups 26 to 30 on Jan 7.Immediately after the completion of the Tal’a Championship qualifiers, a draw will be conducted to determine the dates of the upcoming final rounds.In addition, al-Qahtani explained that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will resume with Group 3 on Jan 4, Group 4 (Jan 5), Group 5 (Jan 6), Group 6 (Jan 7), Group 7 (Jan 8), Group 8 (Jan 9), Group 9 (Jan 10), Group 10 (Jan 11), Group 11 (Jan 12), Group 12 (Jan 13), Group 13 (Jan 14), Group 14 (Jan 15), Group 15 (Jan 16), Group 16 (Jan 18), Group 17 (Jan 19), and Group 18 (Jan 20).He further noted that the Local Da’w Championship will be held on Jan 13. He explained that this competition measures the speed of falcons flying from the starting point to the finish line over a distance of 400m, which is a local distance.He added that the Local Da’w Championship will begin on Jan 13 morning for the categories of Gyr-Shaheen chick and locally bred free falcon chick, followed by local production in all categories. On Jan 14, qualifiers will be held for the Gyr Qarnass and free falcon chick categories, while on Jan 15, qualifiers will be held for the Gyr-Shaheen Qarnass and Shaheen Qarnass categories. The Local Da’w finals will conclude with the Gyr chick and free falcon Qarnass categories on the morning of Jan 16.He pointed out that the Saluki Race Championship final will take place on the evening of Saturday, Jan 17.He also noted that the Local Da’w final for all categories will be held on the morning of Jan 19, while the International Da’w final will take place on Jan 20. He said registration details and categories for the international event will be announced soon.Al-Qahtani added that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship final will be held on the evening of Jan 23, while the Mazayin Championship (Falcon Beauty contest) will take place on Jan 24.The festival aims to preserve the cultural and emotional values of this sport inherited from forefathers, in addition to its importance in Arab folk heritage literature, particularly in the Gulf and Qatari context.

Bottom-placed Al Shahania produced a stunning upset as they swept aside league leaders Al Gharafa 3-0 at Al Khor Stadium Saturday, on the resumption of the Qatar Stars League following the international break.Shahania wasted no time in making their intentions clear, taking the lead as early as the fourth minute when Mohammed Bader Sayyar found the net. The early goal rattled Gharafa, and while the leaders pushed forward in search of an equaliser, they were caught out again as Sayyar struck for a second time in the 22nd minute to give his side a commanding advantage.The underdogs maintained their control after the break and sealed a memorable victory in the 64th minute, when Lotfi Rabah Madjer added the third goal to cap a dominant performance. The win lifted Shahania’s points tally to seven, moving them up to 11th place, while Gharafa remained top of the standings on 25 points despite the defeat. Gharafa have played a game more than second-placed Al Shamal, but they also have a four point cushion at the top.Speaking after the match, Shahania goalscorer Madjer praised his team’s confidence and commitment. “We entered the match believing in ourselves, and every player delivered,” he said. “We showed that Al Shahania are a respectable team capable of competing with any side in the league.”Madjer also credited the coach’s half-time instructions for maintaining their intensity. “The coach asked us to continue with the same approach we showed in the first half, and we stuck to the plan. We hope to carry this performance forward in the coming matches.” 

Gold prices in the Qatari market rose by 3.22 percent during the current week, reaching $4,479.89 per ounce on Thursday, according to data released by Qatar National Bank.The bank's data showed that the price of gold per ounce increased from $4,339.73, its level last Sunday.At the same time, prices of other precious metals also rose on a weekly basis. Silver prices increased by 7.13 percent to $71.9934 per ounce, compared to $67.1983 at the beginning of the week, while platinum prices rose by 12.42 percent to reach $2,228.4382 per ounce, up from $1,982.15 last Sunday.

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a humanitarian initiative to distribute food baskets to vulnerable groups in several villages and underserved neighbourhoods in the Yopougon district of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The project benefited about 7,200 individuals, including widows, retirees, and low-income families. This intervention is part of QC’s ongoing efforts to ease the living burdens faced by these communities, particularly amid the economic challenges confronting societies across West Africa. The distribution was carried out in the presence of Adama Bictogo, president of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, alongside Mubarak bin Hussein al-Marri, Qatar’s ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, and Engineer Hasan Owda, country director of QC’s office in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Al-Marri emphasised that the launch of QC’s food assistance, attended by the president of Parliament, reflects the Ivorian leadership’s deep commitment to social solidarity and supporting the most vulnerable. He described the initiative as a practical embodiment of noble humanitarian values. He added that this effort underscores Qatar’s pioneering humanitarian role in assisting disadvantaged groups worldwide. Humanitarian work, he noted, remains a solid bridge fostering fraternal ties between nations, strengthening the robust bilateral relations between Qatar and Côte d’Ivoire, built on mutual respect and constructive co-operation in social and humanitarian fields. The envoy affirmed that these efforts help alleviate the financial strain on needy families and provide them with a sense of food security. For his part, Owda said that this project continues QC’s humanitarian mission through a series of initiatives, including food basket distributions, which reached a total of 7,179 beneficiaries across the most underserved villages. He pointed out that QC’s interventions in Côte d’Ivoire go beyond emergency relief, involving development projects such as building classrooms, mosques, and water wells, as well as providing tools and equipment for economic empowerment programmes. In 2025 alone, the organisation implemented around 100 projects benefiting more than 12,000 people in Abidjan. Owda added that a memorandum of understanding was recently signed with the UN Development Programme to collaborate in the fields of health, economic empowerment, and youth capacity-building. Plans for 2026 include major initiatives to expand education, healthcare, and water projects, aiming to promote sustainable development and deliver tangible impact on the lives of local communities. 

Qatar Chamber discussed on Wednesday economic and trade relations and prospects for cooperation between Qatari and Canadian companies in several sectors.This came during the meeting of Acting General Manager of the Qatar Chamber Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansouri with Commercial Counsellor at the Canadian Embassy to the State of Qatar Sonja Pandy.The meeting discussed the climate and investment incentives available in the State of Qatar and Canada.For his part, Ali Al Mansouri stressed that Qatar and Canada enjoy close relations, noting the presence of many Canadian companies operating in the Qatari market in many sectors, whether with full Canadian capital or in partnership with Qatari partners.He also pointed out that there are many investment opportunities available for cooperation between the business community in both countries, calling on Canadian investors to invest in Qatar, which provides an attractive investment environment, pioneering legislation, and encouraging investment incentives.Al Mansouri further stressed the Qatar Chamber's readiness to provide all information and data to support and enhance cooperation between Qatari and Canadian companies in all sectors, and he also assured the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Qatar Chamber and its Canadian counterpart in this regard.In turn, Sonja Pandy said that Qatar and Canada are distinguished partners and have a clear interest and keenness to develop their cooperation relations, underscoring the importance of enhancing rapprochement and cooperation between the Canadian and Qatari private sectors.She indicated that there are many investment opportunities available in Canada in the sectors of agriculture, natural resources, technology, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, defense, aviation, and others, and called on Qatari investors to explore and invest in these opportunities.

Qatar Foundation's Doha Debates, in collaboration with Qatar's Years of Culture, a national initiative that brings people together through cultural exchange, has released its first Latin America town hall, "How Should We Reinvent the City"Held at Buenos Aires' Usina del Arte, the event brought together students from Argentina, Chile, and Qatar, alongside global experts, to explore the future of urban life.Moderated by Malika Bilal, the debate featured Guadalupe Granero Realini, urban economist and researcher at CIPPEC Think Tank; Akel Ismail Kahera, program director and professor of Islamic architecture and urbanism at Hamad Bin Khalifa University; and Nicholas Boys Smith, founding director of Create Streets (UK). Students contributed questions and reflections, highlighting intergenerational and cross-cultural dialogue.His Excellency Advisor on Latin America for the Years of Culture Mohammed Al Kuwari said: "In Arab culture, dialogue has always been at the heart of community life, from the tradition of the majlis to the exchange of ideas. Debate is about listening, learning, and finding common ground more than simply winning or losing. "Managing Director of Doha Debates Amjad Atallah said: "Bringing students from different regions into the same conversation creates space for serious questioning and mutual understanding. Partnering with Years of Culture for this town hall reflects our shared belief that dialogue across cultures deepens how young people engage with the ideas shaping their societies."As for students reflecting on the program's impact, Jamila Al Humaidi from Qatar said the experience was proof that honest conversation is the bridge that connects us. Camila Regueiro, from Argentina, added, "I truly think we all learned so much about each other's culture. " Chilean student, Javiera Eugenin Guzmán, noted, "This experience made me feel heard and reminded me of the deep connections that unite us across countries."The expert guests praised the students' engagement, as Akel Ismail Kahera said, "The youth showed maturity and deep understanding of sustainability, urban planning, and globalinequities." Guadalupe Granero Realini added, "Their ability to debate fearlessly and challenge experts was impressive."

Qatar Museums (QM) has unveiled Autorretrato (Self-Portrait, 2022) by Argentinian artist Gabriel Chaile, a major new installation in celebration of the 15th anniversary of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. Installed in Mathaf's performance space, the work underscores the museum's ongoing commitment to cultural exchange and its support for impactful contemporary artistic practices that resonate across the region and beyond. Autorretrato is also part of the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Years of Culture, a national initiative that builds lasting partnerships and celebrates shared creativity, history, and innovation. **media[396990]**  The partnership with Argentina this year highlights the depth of artistic traditions, contemporary practices, and collaborative projects, positioning this new installation as a milestone in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and strengthening international artistic connections.  The deputy chief executive of ALRIWAQ, Public Art, and Rubaiya, Her Excellency Sheikha Reem al-Thani, said: "As Mathaf celebrates its 15th anniversary, the unveiling of Gabriel Chaile's Autorretrato highlights the transformative role of public art in connecting audiences with contemporary creative practice.” “This artwork not only enriches the museum's anniversary programme but also serves as a catalyst for dialogue, inviting reflection on ancestry, heritage, and the ways in which personal and collective identities are interwoven,” she said. “By situating Chaile's sculpture within a public space, we aim to create meaningful encounters that resonate across cultures, histories, and generations." **media[396915]** Born in 1985 in San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, Chaile is renowned for sculptural practice grounded in the material cultures, archaeological histories, and native traditions of Latin America. Drawing from his Afro-Arab and Indigenous heritage, Chaile's work examines how identity is shaped by inherited memory, community narratives, and centuries of cultural interconnection. Autorretrato departs from traditional portraiture and expresses identity through symbolic and material elements. The sculpture's surface is marked by raised clusters inspired in part by the prehistoric Venus of Willendorf, suggesting textured hair and referencing Chaile's hybrid Afro-Arab and Latin ancestry. Subtle eye-shaped impressions appear on both sides of the work, echoing the dual-headed forms characteristic of pre-Hispanic ceramics and introducing a sense of duality and introspection. "Autorretrato brings together material memory and lived experience in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant,” said Mathaf director Zeina Arida. “Gabriel Chaile's work encourages us to consider how form can carry history and resilience,” she said. “Presenting this work at Mathaf during our 15th anniversary year is an ideal way to introduce the museum's future focus on ceramic art, crafting a dialogue where tradition meets innovative form." Crafted in adobe, a clay that was often used for Indigenous architecture and pottery across the continent, the work grounds itself in the earth, and the sculpture's conical form recalls traditional pipes once used in everyday life in northwestern Argentina.By merging these references, Chaile creates a work that articulates what he describes as a "Genealogy of Form", a framework through which ancestral memory, material history, and contemporary identity converge.  The sculpture is presented as part of Evolution Nation, an 18-month campaign honouring Qatar's cultural journey over the past 50 years since the founding of the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ).Curated by Qatar Creates, the national initiative positions Qatar as a global hub for art, culture, and creativity.  As part of this celebration, the unveiling of Chaile's Autorretrato represents a significant milestone for the QM, highlighting the institution's ongoing commitment to commissioning and presenting contemporary public art that connects local audiences with global artistic practice.
