His Excellency the Governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud al-Thani said that Qatar's National Day, which falls on December 18 of every year, is an opportunity to renew belonging, loyalty and allegiance to the homeland and the wise leadership, and to express pride in the national identity.In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, HE the QCB Governor said that celebrating this day embodies the spirit of national unity and commemorates the state's founding, as well as those who shaped Qatar's renaissance, pointing out that it is also an affirmation of the country's commitment to the fundamental principles and values upon which it was founded.HE the QCB Governor highlighted the outstanding achievements that have been accomplished under the wise leadership and vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, which enabled Qatar to occupy an advanced position on the regional and global level. This has been proved by international organisations and institutions that praised the humanitarian and civilisational role played by the State of Qatar in the region and the world as a whole, which is considered a true source of pride.His Excellency praised the noble meanings reflected in Qatar National Day's 2025 slogan 'With You It Rises, From You It Awaits,' drawn from a speech delivered by His Highness the Amir during his 2016 visit to Qatar University, during which His Highness indicated that Qatar prospers through its people and relies on them to continue growing. His Excellency noted that the slogan affirms the value of Qatari citizens and their role in building the country, encouraging them to continue their journey towards development by giving and serving the community.He pointed out that QCB's achievements are in line with the National Day slogan, which affirms that the State of Qatar's renaissance is built by its people, expecting more creativity and innovation from them. He highlighted the bank's keenness to invest in Qatari talents, recognising the value of human resources in achieving economic development, noting that Qatari talents and competencies constitute one of the supporting pillars of the third strategy for the financial sector, and are given the highest priority to create a banking generation of citizens capable of creativity, innovation, and leading the banking and financial sector.He stressed that celebrating Qatar's National Day reflects the country's connection to its past and its historical and cultural identity, as recalls the sacrifices made by its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, the honourable people of Qatar and the leaders who followed the founder, noting that it is they who laid the foundations of the modern state, and achieved accomplishments that link the past with the present, which are commemorated on Qatar National Day.Regarding QCB's achievements for this year, HE the QCB Governor said that 2025 was full of accomplishments that brought about a qualitative leap in the financial sector, in line with the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). Significant progress has been made in implementing the strategic objectives outlined in the Third Financial Sector Strategy, QCB's 2024-2030 Strategy, the FinTech Strategy, and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy for the Financial Sector, he added.HE the Governor of QCB indicated that several pioneering initiatives were implemented, including the issuance of instructions for the establishment and operation of a real estate development escrow account, as well as instructions for data processing and protection, the issuance of a sustainable finance framework, and the issuance of a circular on financial services for customers with disabilities and the elderly, in addition to the issuance of a circular announcing a change in the fifth issue of the Riyal banknotes in accordance with the laws in force in the State of Qatar.The first auction within the distributors framework was successfully executed, resulting in the issuance of government bonds and sukuk denominated in local currency on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, he continued, adding that the second phase of the primary distributors framework was also successfully implemented through secondary market trading and the listing of Ijara sukuk, following the highly successful launch of the first phase in January 2025.As part of the bank's commitment to supporting emerging national companies in the field of financial technology, which contributes to building an advanced digital financial and banking system, QCB continued to grant licenses to financial technology companies to conduct their services. By the end of September 2025, the number of licensed companies in this field reached 14 companies subject to the supervision and control of QCB in the financial technology sector, in addition to granting approval to several companies to join the regulatory sandbox and the accelerated regulatory sandbox, he added.His Excellency also pointed out that, as part of the bank's commitment to providing effective initiatives that utilise modern technologies such as digitalisation and artificial intelligence, QCB has worked to facilitate transactions and bring basic financial services closer to all segments of society, thereby enhancing financial inclusion in the country. For example, the Apple Pay service was launched for 'Himyan' cardholders, in addition to collaborating with Qatar Airways' Privilege Club to provide a more distinctive experience for Himyan cardholders, enabling them to benefit from the club's advantages, such as earning 'Avios' points when using Himyan cards for their daily purchases, he further explained.He noted the continued growth of international reserves and foreign currency liquidity at QCB, which reached approximately QR261.1bn in September 2025, registering a growth rate of 3.1% compared to September 2024.QCB's total official reserves also reached approximately QR201.5bn in September 2025, with a growth rate of 3.7% compared to September 2024, while the total assets of commercial banks reached approximately QR2.15tn in September 2025, representing a growth rate of 6.2% compared to September 2024, he added.He concluded his statements to QNA by emphasising that the bank continues its work in accordance with the strategies and objectives set to enhance the sustainability of the financial sector, increase its resilience, and support stability, thereby contributing to diversification and innovation, supporting financial inclusion, and excellence in banking and financial practices through pioneering future initiatives and projects that will contribute to supporting the digital transformation of the financial sector. 

Romania’s ambassador to Qatar Daniel Tanase has said that Qatar National Day (QND) is an occasion of profound national pride, unity, and reflection, honouring the country's history and culture, while looking toward the future.Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy said that the National Day represents a moment of patriotic gratitude, marking Qatar's remarkable journey toward prosperity and global influence.He noted that the occasion celebrates national unity, visionary leadership, and the values of loyalty, solidarity, and resilience that define the Qatari identity.It also serves, Tanase added, as a reminder of the sacrifices of past generations and the vision that continues to guide the nation's development.He praised Qatar's diplomatic and political approach, describing it as highly effective at both regional and international levels, driven by a firm commitment to dialogue and constructive engagement, adding that the State has positioned itself as a genuine bridge-builder by maintaining direct and open channels of communication with a wide range of parties.On Qatar-Romania relations, Tanase stressed that bilateral ties have witnessed strong momentum in recent years, supported by regular consultations, a well-developed legal framework in many areas of mutual interest, and a strong will to further develop and enhance the bilateral cooperation in sectors like economy, education and culture, health, agriculture, energy, transport, infrastructure, tourism, sports and many more.He noted that the two countries are marking 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. 

The Qatar National Day (QND) is an important occasion that highlights the country's history and development since its founding, and a time for both citizens and residents to reflect on Qatar's progress and achievements, as well as its ongoing efforts to meet the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030), Australia’s ambassador to Qatar Shane Flanagan told the Qatar News Agency (QNA).The day brings people together in recognition of the country's growth, stability, and contributions to the wider region, the envoy underlined, noting that Australia continues to stand with Qatar and supports its efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.Flanagan further added that Qatar plays an influential role on the international stage, and that its commitment to dialogue and mediation has contributed to progress in a number of regional and global challenges.He noted the efforts Qatar is undertaking to help mediate the Israel-Hamas conflict, which demonstrates its continued commitment to promoting peace and achieving humanitarian outcomes.The development of Qatar, guided by QNV2030, reflects careful planning and investment aimed at building a diversified and sustainable economy.Regarding the Qatar-Australia relationship, Flanagan elaborated that the two countries continue to build a strong and forward-looking partnership, with co-operation spanning areas such as food security, industry, renewable energy, and education.He cited the recently concluded partnership between Swinburne University of Technology and Barzan University College will allow Qatari students to obtain Australian qualifications in fields such as cybersecurity, software development, artificial intelligence (AI), and engineering.These programmes, the envoy said, support Qatar's focus on developing skills needed for the future and align closely with QNV2030 objectives.  

France’s ambassador to Qatar Arnaud Pescheux has stressed that Qatar National Day (QND) is a meaningful occasion to celebrate the nation’s identity and the spirit of unity that brings its people together.In his statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy pointed out that Qatar has become a key player for dialogue and mediation, noting that Doha is now a world capital of international diplomacy due its active foreign policy and peace initiatives.Pescheux also noted that Qatar has spared no effort in many different crises such as Ukraine, Afghanistan or Sudan and foremost Gaza.France and Qatar are both strongly committed to peace, he added, describing both countries as balancing powers that are committed to respecting international law and upholding the international order in every crisis.He also noted that Qatar is witnessing a wide-ranging renaissance across various sectors."I am impressed by its ability to translate ambition into concrete progress, guided by the long-term strategy of the Qatar National Vision 2030," the envoy stated.On the trajectory of the bilateral relations, he said that ties between France and Qatar are historically-rooted in all areas, including diplomacy, economy, defense and security, culture, and sport.The strategic partnership between the two countries has grown considerably in recent years, Pescheux added, especially after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's visit in February 2024."Qatar is home for more than 6000 French citizens and I know they share a deep sense of belonging," he said, emphasising that relations between the two peoples are based on mutual respect and joint co-operation."Three words could encapsulate the French-Qatari ties: strategic partnership, trust, and friendship,” the envoy said. “You can count on me to strengthen our ties even further in the near future."  

Central Municipal Council (CMC) chairman Mohammed bin Ali al-Athba has affirmed that Qatar National Day (QND) represents one of the enduring milestones in the history of Qatar, as it embodies the values of loyalty, belonging, and adherence to the principles established by founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, which continues its steady journey under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), al-Athba said that the National Day celebration carries profound connotations and renews feelings of pride and honor in the nation and its leadership.He pointed out that the role of society in the development process is not less important than the role of official institutions, highlighting the importance of continuing collective work to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 and build a strong and sustainable economy and a prosperous society.The CMC chairman added that National Day contributes to consolidating the values of loyalty, belonging, and love of the homeland, embodies the people's support for their wise leadership, and strengthens the spirit of national unity, in line with this year's National Day slogan, “With You It Rises, From You It Awaits”.He cited the CMC's key achievements in several areas this year, including strengthening co-ordination with government agencies to develop infrastructure projects and municipal services, adopting initiatives to improve institutional performance and apply quality and excellence standards, hosting officials of service agencies to discuss municipal and agricultural issues and make appropriate recommendations, and launching programmes that facilitate communication with citizens and receive their feedback.He noted that digitisation and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have become essential elements in the development of municipal services, with the CMC's efforts including recommendations to develop electronic systems and databases and activate smart systems to improve the quality of services and facilitate citizens' access to them.Regarding future projects, al-Athba said that the CMC is working on expanding digital services and enhancing citizens' access to them, in addition to introducing AI and data analytics technologies to proactively monitor community needs and improve the decision-making process.The CMC, he continued, is also working to support sustainable urban transport plans, develop internal roads and main entrances and exits, enhance communication channels with citizens through modern interactive platforms, implement awareness campaigns to preserve the environment and public facilities, expand environmental initiatives such as the creation of smart gardens and sustainable irrigation systems, and enhance co-operation with the private sector in infrastructure projects and digital services.  

The Qatar National Day 2025 celebrations at Darb Al Saai in the Umm Salal area continue to attract a large turnout, with families making up the most prominent presence. Held under the slogan “With you we rise, and from you we anticipate” and organised by the Ministry of Culture until December 20, the event features heritage and entertainment shows, competitions, and arts, among other cultural activations.**media[392623]**The Ministry of Interior (MoI) is taking part with a specially designed pavilion shaped as a comprehensive “security village.” It showcases the Ministry’s modern security ecosystem and its broad community engagement, with the participation of around 15 specialised departments and units.**media[392621]**The pavilion offers a unique blend of security education, direct public services, and innovative interactive activities tailoured for all age groups. MoI aims to strengthen community partnership, foster direct communication with the public, highlight its vital role in maintaining national security and stability, and introduce younger generations to Qatar’s heritage and values that underpin security and community work.The General Directorate of Civil Defence presents live demonstrations and simulations of firefighting and rescue operations, along with essential educational materials on public safety and fire prevention.**media[392624]**Qatar Archives is also participating this year with a distinctive pavilion at Darb Al Saai aimed at introducing the public to its mission. Mohammed Hassan al-Shahrani, head of the Private Archives Department, said that this year’s participation features a renewed approach, with the pavilion designed to align with the identity of the State of Qatar’s emblem and highlight its historical evolution in a simple, audience-friendly way.The “Al Bidaa” activity at Darb Al Saai 2025 presents an advanced model of maritime heritage showcasing, through a specially designed space that reintroduces Qatar’s maritime professions with a modern vision rooted in live documentation and interactive experiences.**media[392626]**Nayef Malallah Al-Muhannadi, head of Al-Maha Folk Arts Group, said their participation adds significant value to the maritime arts segment. This is the first year the group participates with a large number of Qatari nahham performers (maritime chanters), giving the performance a distinct presence.**media[392622]**The Maritime Museum at Darb Al Saai is one of the most popular stops, offering an immersive experience that showcases Qatar’s maritime history and its role in shaping national identity. The museum includes original heritage items such as diving and pearling tools, old navigation maps and routes, and models of traditional vessels used by ancestors. It documents maritime professions and their evolution across eras.

ed by the honourable participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in the 2nd Asean-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur on May 27, 2025. "This high-level presence reflects not only Qatar's dedication to regional stability but also the country's vision to become the central hub facilitating immense future growth," he noted, adding that, by focusing on advanced co-operation in digital transformation, food security and sustainable development, Qatar is actively building the infrastructure necessary to ensure mutual prosperity for both vast regions. The Malaysian ambassador concluded his statements to QNA by extending his congratulations, once again, on the occasion of Qatar National Day, wishing the Qatari people continued peace, stability and prosperity. He also expressed his ambition that the two countries are able to forge deep collaboration, mutual respect and success.   

His Excellency the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari revealed Wednesday key features of the State of Qatar's General Budget for the year 2026, including sectoral expenditure distribution, government contracting plans, and the financing of the Third National Development Strategy.During the press conference, held on the occasion of the announcement of the 2026 State Budget on Tuesday, he presented a comprehensive overview of the expected economic indicators for the current year 2025, along with several initiatives by the Ministry of Finance to empower and engage the Qatari private sector.HE the Minister of Finance affirmed that the new budget represents a continuation of the balanced fiscal approach adopted by the State, aiming to achieve financial sustainability, enhance economic growth, improve public spending efficiency, and provide an investment-friendly environment, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.HE al-Kuwari stated that the total expenditure for the 2026 budget amounts to QR220.8bn, distributed as follows: QR69.5bn allocated for salaries and wages, QR81.5bn for current expenditures, QR7bn for minor capital expenditures, and QR62.8bn for major capital expenditures.In his review of the main sector allocations in the new budget, he noted that the education sector is allocated QR21.8bn, while the health sector receives QR25.4bn, up from QR22bn in 2025. This reflects the state's continued commitment to developing human capital and improving the quality of public services.He explained that the municipality and environment sector is allocated QR22.2bn, the sports sector QR7.6bn, commercial affairs QR4.1bn, transportation QR4.1bn, communications QR3.8bn, and social services QR2.8bn, reflecting a balanced distribution of spending across vital sectors.HE the Minister of Finance pointed out that the total expected revenues for the 2026 fiscal year amount to QR199bn (QR155bn from oil and gas revenues, and QR44bn from non-oil revenues), compared to total revenues of QR197bn in 2025 (QR154bn from oil revenues and QR43bn from non-oil revenues).This reflects an improvement in oil revenues and continued growth in non-oil revenues, attributed to the state's continued conservative approach in estimating oil and gas revenues, based on an average oil price of $55 per barrel, to enhance financial flexibility and ensure spending stability.Regarding the government contracting plan for 2026, His Excellency highlighted key sectors, noting that the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) plans to issue tenders worth QR49bn, the Ministry of Public Health QR2.6bn, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp (Kahramaa) QR7.2bn, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education QR2.3bn.He explained that the total number of tenders offered to the private sector amounts to approximately 4,464 tenders with an estimated value exceeding QR70bn, as part of the 2026 Government Procurement Plan Forum, reflecting the state's direction toward enhancing public-private partnerships.In this context, His Excellency referred to several initiatives by the Ministry of Finance to empower and engage the private sector, including a review of the state's infrastructure projects for the next five years to assess their feasibility for private sector implementation, and transferring suitable projects to the relevant committee at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.Work is also underway to issue a mandatory list of national products that government entities must purchase, giving priority to national products in government procurement.The first phase is expected to include more than 1,000 national products. At the same time, the ministry aims for an annual growth rate of no less than 10% in the value of local content in government procurement, with the actual annual growth rate exceeding the target, resulting in a national economic impact of QR9bn during 2025.While reviewing the initiatives and projects of the Third National Development Strategy for the period 2024-2030, His Excellency revealed an allocation of approximately QR32.7bn for its implementation.He explained that the strategy is based on seven national strategic outcomes, including sustainable economic growth (QR10.8bn), outstanding government institutions (QR3.1bn), environmental sustainability (QR0.9bn), financial sustainability (QR1.3bn), a future-ready workforce (QR0.9bn), a cohesive society (QR0.6bn), and high quality of life (QR4bn).HE al-Kuwari confirmed that Qatar's credit rating is among the best in the region and the world, reflecting confidence in the Qatari economy.He noted that fiscal discipline is one of the main pillars of the country's high credit rating, in addition to the continued enhancement of human resource efficiency, strengthening of financial reserves, expenditure control, and sound strategic planning to deal with crises.In his remarks on key economic indicators for the current year, HE the Minister of Finance stated that the GDP growth rate is expected to reach 2.9% according to IMF estimates, with non-hydrocarbon GDP growing by 4.4% and hydrocarbon GDP by 0.1%.He explained that the annual inflation rate for the year through last October is expected to be 0.7%, one of the lowest rates in the region, with expectations that inflation will remain low in the medium term.He also noted that Qatar received 4.4mn tourists by the end of November.

Seven civilians were killed and at least 20 others were injured on Tuesday after Thai artillery shelling struck Cambodian territory, as violence continued to escalate along the border between the two countries.Spokesperson for Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, said the shelling targeted areas inside Cambodia, resulting in the deaths of at least seven civilians and injuries to 20 others.She described the attacks as "inhumane and brutal," saying they constituted a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and the joint declaration signed by the prime ministers of both countries on October 26 under the auspices of US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who currently chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).In Bangkok, the Thai military announced the deaths of two soldiers in border clashes with Cambodia, bringing the total number of Thai military fatalities to three since fighting resumed on Sunday."A total of three soldiers have been killed, one on December 8 and two on December 9," the military said in a statement, adding that Thailand would take steps to expel Cambodian forces from the Thai territory.Thailand and Cambodia have long disputed sovereignty over several areas along their shared 817-kilometer land border, a dispute that dates back more than a century. Armed clashes have occurred intermittently, with the most serious confrontation being a week-long exchange of artillery fire in 2011.Tensions escalated again last May after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a skirmish, prompting both sides to significantly reinforce their border deployments.
