Qatar Chamber recently participated in the 6th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour held in Marrakesh, Morocco.The chamber was represented by engineer Nasser Ahmed Mohamed al-Meer, adviser to the chairman for Labour Affairs. During the conference, al-Meer delivered a speech highlighting Qatar’s commitment to promoting education for all and safeguarding children’s rights.He reviewed the country’s experience in implementing comprehensive education policies and robust legislative frameworks, which have contributed to achieving a 0% rate of child labour, reflecting the strength and effectiveness of the national protection and oversight system.Al-Meer emphasised the pivotal role of the private sector in supporting national efforts, highlighting how businesses can contribute sustainably by funding programmes aimed at preventing and combating child labour. He also highlighted initiatives such as public-private partnerships, corporate social responsibility programmes, and investments in education and human development. 

Qatar Insurance reported a net profit of QR791mn in 2025, up 9% year-on-year (y-o-y) from QR725mn.Earnings per share (EPS) for the period stood at QR0.188, a 10% y-o-y increase from QR0.171. Net profit before Pillar Two Taxes increased by 19% y-o-y to reach QR874mn.Gross Written Premiums (GWP) grew to QR9.9bn, a 9% increase compared to 2024, while Insurance Service Results (ISR) stood at QR506mn. The board of directors proposed a cash dividend distribution of 11% for the year ended 2025.Qatar Insurance manages a high-quality, well diversified investment portfolio with a stable y-o-y composition. In 2025, Assets Under Management remained stable y-o-y at QR18.6bn. Investment and Other Income rose by 1% y-o-y to QR993mn. The company also reported a robust Return on Investment of 5.1%, compared to 5.0% in 2024.Qatar Insurance Group chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani said, “2025 has been another excellent year for Qatar Insurance. On the results side, the company is again proud to deliver a double-digit bottom-line growth and higher earnings for shareholders, derived from a strong, balanced underwriting portfolio and expertly-managed investments.“On the client side, the company continues to trail blaze client-centricity and service and product excellence through its commitment to innovation and digital transformation, including through the integration of AI technologies.”Qatar Insurance Group CEO Salem al-Mannai said, “2025 saw QIC continuing to strategically rebalance its underwriting portfolio. The portfolio has now stabilised at a well-balanced level of core domestic and regional business versus international business in terms of risk diversification and is highly profitable.“We are fully focused on understanding our clients’ evolving needs, on innovation, and on providing a world-class customer experience, as evidenced by the launch of two further personal lines products in 2025 and ongoing enhancements made to the award-winning QIC App.”In alignment with Qatar Insurance’s long-term GCC growth strategy, the company has presented a comprehensive proposal to establish a branch operation in Saudi Arabia. Subject to regulatory approval, Qatar Insurance’s branch model will leverage the company’s technical infrastructure and regional expertise, while capitalising on supportive regulatory reforms, mandatory insurance frameworks and momentum from Saudi Vision 2030.

Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah received His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, during his official visit to Kuwait. During the meeting, the Kuwaiti Amir extended his congratulations to HE Sheikh Joaan on his election as President of the Olympic Council of Asia, affirming Kuwait’s full support for the relevant institutions and for the OCA in a manner that contributes to further strengthening and advancing the sports movement across the Asian continent.HE Sheikh Joaan was also received by Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, who congratulated him on his election and wished him continued success in serving and elevating the Asian sports movement.

Visit Qatar, in partnership with the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and the Qatar Triathlon Federation, has announced the opening of registrations for the Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final 2026, set to take place in Qatar on December 11–12.Building on the momentum of a highly successful debut in 2025 that welcomed thousands of participants and reached global audiences, the 2026 edition invites triathletes of all levels to take part in one of Qatar’s flagship international sporting events.Athletes can register to compete in either the signature 100km race, featuring a 2km swim, 80km cycle and 18km run; or the Sprint Distance triathlon, comprising a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. Participants can register for the Sprint Distance race at https://t100triathlon.com/qatar/participate/Athletes who placed in the top 10 of their respective age-group categories at the 2025 edition will also receive invitations to compete in the 2026 T100 Age Group World Championship Finals. Among those set to return is Qatari triathlete Alya al-Hamad, who finished an impressive fourth in the 25–29 female category last December. 

The Qatar Anti-Doping Agency (QADA), in collaboration with Qatar University (QU), announced the launch of the first specialised anti-doping research grant for the 2026–2027 period, fully funded by the agency.This initiative is part of the agency’s commitment to advancing specialised scientific research and supporting evidence-based policies and programmes, thereby strengthening the integrity of sport, protecting athletes’ health, and developing the anti-doping system at both national and international levels.**media[416012]**The grant aims to support four high-quality research projects, including two scientific studies in relevant fields of science, medicine, pharmacy, and technology related to anti-doping, and two social research projects examining the behavioural, cultural, and environmental factors influencing athletes and the sports ecosystem. The best proposals will be selected according to rigorous competitive criteria to ensure quality outputs and their applicability and suitability for scientific publication.Prof Aiman Erbad, QU’s vice-president for Research and Graduate Studies noted that the research grant represents a strategic investment in multidisciplinary research that connects medical, pharmaceutical, technological, and social sciences, enabling a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of doping issues in the sports context.He added that co-operation with the QADA reflects an advanced model of partnership between research institutions and specialised national entities, directing research toward real priorities and practical challenges, and enabling researchers and graduate students to produce original knowledge with practical impact and publishable outcomes, supporting the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the sports system.Dr Nasser al-Saad, the CEO of QADA, said: “This research grant represents a pivotal milestone in the Agency’s journey to strengthen specialised scientific knowledge, uphold the integrity of sport, and support decisions and policies grounded in scientific research. We are proud of our partnership with Qatar University as the national university, which enhances the empowerment of national research talent and reinforces Qatar’s position as a leading regional and international hub for specialised scientific research in anti-doping.”The grant is open to academic researchers and graduate students at QU, reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to innovation, building national research capacity, and ensuring that research outcomes are published in accordance with the highest recognised scientific standards.
