Canada is evaluating its relationship with Israel after the attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar, foreign minister Anita Anand said on Wednesday, in the latest sign of unhappiness with the Israeli government.Anand reiterated that Canada considered the attack to be unacceptable, especially given Qatari attempts to facilitate peace in the Middle East.Anand made her comments when asked whether Canada might follow the lead of the European Commission, which said it would propose the suspension of trade-related measures in a European Union agreement with Israel."We are evaluating our relationship with Israel," Anand told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the ruling Liberal Party in Edmonton.Asked specifically whether Canada was considering any kinds of sanctions against Israel, she replied: "We will continue to evaluate our next steps."Canada has noticeably hardened its line on Israel under Prime Minister Mark Carney, who replaced Justin Trudeau in January. Carney announced in July that Canada would recognise Palestinian statehood, angering Israel.Carney on Tuesday condemned the Israeli airstrike, calling it "an intolerable expansion of violence" that risked escalating conflict throughout the region.He said last month that Israel's plan to take control of Gaza City was "wrong".

These factors continue to strengthen the banking sector and reinforce international investor confidence in Qatar as a leading financial hub in the region.The transaction achieved the best credit spread ever for Doha Bank at 105 basis points over the 5-year US Treasury rate, tightening by 35 basis points from initial price thoughts.Investor participation was well-diversified, with 56% from the Middle East, 26% from Asia, 13% from the UK and Europe, and 5% from US offshore accounts. The issuance saw strong and wider investor demand, with first time investors from Europe and Asia participating in the deal.Doha Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Fahad bin Faisal al-Thani commented, “This successful issuance reflects the strong confidence of global investors in Qatar’s economy and the resilience of our banking sector. I could not do all of that... but this collaboration, with art and science, biologists, scientists, have turned a lot of these impossible things into new innovative materials,” the expert said.He added that the items on display are ready for the market.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has condemned the recent Israeli strikes on Doha, warning that such actions risk further escalating tensions in the region.In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Starmer stated:" I condemn Israel's strikes on Doha, which violate Qatar's sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region".He emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation, adding:" The priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned against the grave consequences of the brutal and unprecedented Israeli escalation against the State of Qatar, stressing the serious risks it poses to regional stability, its undermining of de-escalation efforts, and its expansion of confrontations at the expense of civilian safety and the stability of nations.In a statement issued today, the ministry condemned in the strongest possible terms Israel's blatant aggression against the State of Qatar, which targeted a residential headquarters in Doha housing several members of the political bureau of Hamas, in a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter, and in disregard for international norms and conventions.The statement affirmed Egypt's full solidarity and unwavering support for the State of Qatar's leadership, government, and people in the face of this disgraceful aggression.
