The General Directorate of Communications and Information Systems at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) received Thursday a delegation from the Ministry of Interior of Romania, headed by Deputy Director-General of the General Directorate of European Affairs, Schengen and International Relations, Police Quaestor Florin Bajenaru. The visit aimed to strengthen co-operation and exchange expertise in the fields of technical systems and digital transformation.The delegation was received by Director of Systems Development at the Ministry Lt Col Engineer Abdulaziz al-Asmar al-Ruwaili. A briefing tour was organised during which the delegation was introduced to the latest systems and technological solutions adopted by the MoI, particularly in the areas of e-services, artificial intelligence, and data analytics, in addition to the digital infrastructure supporting security and service operations.Several strategic projects related to digital transformation, implemented according to the highest standards of cybersecurity and data governance, were also reviewed.This visit reflects the MoI's commitment to strengthening international partnerships and exchanging expertise, contributing to the development of the security work system and keeping pace with modern technological advancements.  

Qatar has taken part in the 49th session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome. Qatar was represented at the meetings by Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad. In her address, she stated that this year’s meetings, under the theme From Farm to Market: Investing with Young Entrepreneurs, reflect a fundamental truth that the future of food security depends on empowering young people in rural communities to be producers, innovators, and leaders of change in food systems. Highlighting that Qatar has been a member of the IFAD since the late 1970s, driven by its belief in the importance of agricultural development and rural transformation, HE Dr al-Misnad expressed the country’s pride in the institutional maturity that the IFAD has achieved and its tangible ability to improve the lives of small producers and rural communities, in line with the vision of the wise leadership that places people at the heart of development efforts. She emphasised that Qatar has made food security a national priority and a key pillar of its international co-operation. Through its partnerships and development programmes, it continues to support the building of more resilient food systems, enhance local production, and assist communities in facing climate and economic challenges in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. Noting that the meetings were being held amidst increasing global challenges, including resource scarcity, climate change, and supply chain disruptions, the minister said that these challenges simultaneously present a real opportunity to unleash the potential of young people in rural areas, empowering them to become entrepreneurs and innovators in the agriculture and food sector. Out of this conviction, HE Dr al-Misnad said, Qatar’s partnership with the IFAD focuses on three main pillars: strengthening resilient food systems, enabling young entrepreneurs to transition from farm to market, and accelerating innovation and digital transformation in the agricultural sector. She added that Qatar views the IFAD as a key partner in translating international commitments into tangible impact on the ground, noting that the shared mission is clear: to empower rural families, support youth, and build more resilient and equitable food systems. The minister emphasised that investing in productive youth is an investment in the future of all humanity, and that Qatar will continue to work with the IFAD and all partners to ensure that rural youth have the opportunities that enable them to be active participants and leaders in global food systems.  

As the government accelerates its digital transformation under Qatar National Vision 2030, secure and independent communication platforms are emerging as a cornerstone of the country’s cybersecurity plans, the top executive of a Doha-based technology company has said. Gem Soft CEO Michael Jordan noted that its ‘Gem Team’ system has been one of the major highlights of the company’s participation in the third edition of Web Summit Qatar, which concludes today (February 4). Speaking to Gulf Times yesterday on the sidelines of the annual technology conference, Jordan explained how locally developed solutions can safeguard sensitive data while ensuring resilience against external risks. Jordan pointed out that secure communication is now a strategic asset: “Whether it’s a ministry communicating with patients in health tech, or a financial institution managing capital markets, independence in communication infrastructure is real independence.” Chief Strategy officer Alexander Orlov further explained the technical framework underpinning the platform, noting that Gem Team can be deployed on private cloud or on-premise infrastructure, ensuring that Qatari entities retain full control over their data. “Unlike Teams or Slack, you’re not dependent on foreign servers. You control the full stack, from infrastructure to application layer,” he said. According to Alexander, the system integrates multi-factor authentication and advanced encryption standards, with ongoing development of post-quantum cryptography. Jordan described this as essential for ministries, healthcare providers, and financial institutions where confidentiality is paramount. Jordan linked the initiative directly to Qatar National Vision 2030. “Our ambition is to integrate into the business, governmental, and security community at large, totally in alignment with the country’s 2030 vision,” he said, underscoring that Gem Soft’s intellectual property is registered in Qatar. He said Gem Soft has already signed several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with local partners, including Mannai Technologies and Gulf African Commercial Representation, as well as Transfero, facilitated through Invest Qatar. Jordan described these partnerships as evidence of the company’s commitment to being “on the ground” and integrated into the local ecosystem. Speaking from a wider geopolitical context, Jordan said: “In today’s unstable world, independence in communication infrastructure is real independence. For Qatar and the GCC, this technology provides resilience against external risks while advancing Vision 2030’s digital goals.” 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will showcase Qatar's digital transformation journey and efforts to build a competitive digital economy through a joint interactive booth with the Ministry of Sports and Youth during the Web Summit Qatar 2026, to be held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on February 1-4.The booth will highlight key national programmes supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, most notably the Digital Incubation Center, the TASMU Accelerator, and the "Scale Now" programme.The joint booth will feature a dedicated interactive theatre hosting panel discussions with leading technology experts and industry leaders, alongside live presentations and discussions on the latest digital trends and innovations.It will include a dedicated startup area, enabling companies to showcase their digital solutions and connect with investors and potential partners in sectors such as fintech, health tech, sustainability, smart cities, and other priority sectors.The MCIT will participate in a number of high-level sessions and organise a series of specialised masterclasses aimed at delivering practical content and applied knowledge for entrepreneurs, professionals, and policymakers.On the sidelines of the summit, the ministry is set to sign a number of memoranda of understanding with international partners to support co-operation in the fields of innovation and digital transformation.  

President of Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF) Abeer Al Khalifa affirmed that Qatar Foundation schools place great importance on the use of technology as a core pillar for enhancing learning and developing future skills.In exclusive remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the International Day of Education, Al Khalifa noted that the integration of digital solutions is achieved through e-learning platforms and interactive classroom technologies, supporting blended learning, encouraging innovation, and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.She stressed the Foundation’s commitment to using modern technologies responsibly and ethically, balancing innovation with the protection of learners, ensuring that students are equipped with advanced digital skills that enable them to succeed in the knowledge economy, while maintaining the sustainability of the education system and its alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.She confirmed that pre-university education at Qatar Foundation encompasses a diverse educational community that combines global and local dimensions, with students representing 79 nationalities. This diversity reinforces the values of openness, cultural understanding, and dialogue, and contributes to preparing students who can engage with the international community while preserving their national identity.She noted that the number of enrolled students stands at 9,294, including 5,576 male students and 3,718 female students, of whom 8,365 are Qatari. She emphasized that this strong presence of Qatari students reflects Qatar Foundation’s role in supporting national education and building local capabilities.She pointed out that the presence of 718 teachers underscores investment in the teaching workforce as the cornerstone of educational quality, providing a supportive learning environment that takes individual differences into account and promotes modern, student-centered teaching approaches.She noted that graduating more than 8,300 students from Qatar Foundation schools and the Academic Bridge Program reflects the system’s ability to prepare generations capable of transitioning smoothly to higher education or professional pathways, enhancing students’ readiness for labor market requirements and the knowledge economy.She stressed the schools’ commitment to engaging students in local and international technology competitions and events in areas such as programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, and scientific innovation, enabling them to apply their knowledge practically, work within multicultural teams, stay abreast of the latest technological developments, refine their skills, and build self-confidence.She said that Qatar Foundation adopts a practical and gradual approach to integrating modern educational tools, including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, embedding them within the education system in a way that enhances learning quality and keeps pace with digital transformation.She added that at the level of higher education and scientific research, artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity constitute core pillars of academic and research programs, where these technologies are employed in data analysis and the development of smart solutions that support innovation aligned with national priorities.She noted that in pre-university education, digital tools have been widely integrated through learning management systems, blended learning, and virtual laboratories, alongside pilot initiatives using AI-based tools to support personalized learning, track student progress, and improve teaching methods. This is accompanied by enhanced cybersecurity awareness through the inclusion of digital safety concepts, responsible technology use, and data protection within curricula and school activities.She affirmed that Qatar Foundation has played an active role in developing and implementing the International Baccalaureate system in the State of Qatar, making it a key pillar of educational quality within its system. This has been achieved through adherence to global accreditation and quality standards, and the development of innovative educational practices focused on critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, independent research, and community service, while aligning programs with national identity and strengthening Arabic language education and Qatari cultural values.She pointed to the diversity of educational pathways and programs offered by the Foundation, including vocational tracks, advanced-level programs, and innovative educational models such as experiential learning under the My Academies model, as well as specialized programs for students with learning difficulties at Awsaj Academy, students with autism spectrum disorder at Renad Academy, and students with severe disabilities at Warif Academy.She also highlighted Qatar Foundation’s pivotal role in enhancing education quality by supporting scientific research and knowledge production through leading national institutions, including the Qatar National Research Fund, thereby strengthening the link between education, innovation, and the development of national priorities.In concluding her remarks to QNA, the Head of Pre-University Education saithat the Ejadah School Improvement Program, which falls under the umbrella of pre-university education at Qatar Foundation, contributes to enhancing education quality in the country through an evidence-based evaluation and improvement model. This model links schools’ self-evaluation to measurable improvements in student learning outcomes, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Social Development and Family, supporting sustainable improvement across the national education system.

Qatar Chamber highlighted the country’s rapid strides in digital transformation and innovation as it announced its official sponsorship of the first ‘International Exhibition on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Technologies 26’ (ROBOTECH 26), scheduled to take place in Doha from October 27-29, 2026. Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari stressed that the country is witnessing “rapid development in the information technology sector” and has been ranked among the top 20 countries globally in the 2025 Digital Competitiveness Index issued by the International Institute for Management Development. This progress reflects the nation’s commitment to building a competitive, knowledge-based economy under Qatar National Vision 2030, as al-Kuwari emphasised during the press conference, which was attended by Qatar Chamber acting general manager Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri and Haitham Shehab, general manager of the organising company, Stallion; and Ling Li, exhibition manager. “Qatar Chamber’s support for this exhibition is part of its strategy and is one of the activities of the Qatari Business Council after its restructuring. The exhibition also contributes to strengthening the integrated partnership between the public and private sectors,” al-Kuwari said. Al-Kuwari added that the business council will invite Qatari business owners and companies to participate in a conference accompanying the exhibition, enabling them to benefit from dialogue sessions and panel discussions. A seminar and workshops will also be organised to bring together Qatari business leaders with international counterparts, aimed at enhancing trade and investment cooperation opportunities and building strategic partnerships. Al-Mansouri affirmed the chamber’s commitment to supporting the exhibition, noting that “innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) are considered engines of the economy”. He said ROBOTECH 26 represents “a valuable opportunity to conclude deals and partnerships between Qatari and international companies in these fields.” Shehab said ROBOTECH 26 will occupy 15,000sq m and is designed as “the premier platform to discover cutting-edge technologies and catalyse public-private partnerships in this high-growth sector.” Li said ROBOTECH 26 aligns with Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030, which places information technology and digital transformation at the centre of economic development. The exhibition is expected to attract leading companies in AI and robotics across sectors, including healthcare, smart transportation, logistics, education, cybersecurity, food security, fintech, industrial technologies, smart cities, and environmental conservation. According to Qatar Chamber, global market trends underscore the significance of the event. The AI market, valued at “$136.55bn” in 2022, is projected to reach “$826.73bn” by 2030, while the robotics market is expected to hit “$189.36bn” by 2027. 

Marking a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey, the Ministry of Labour has integrated advanced Artificial Intelligence and dynamic reporting tools into the Labour Market Information System (LMIS).LMIS is an integrated digital platform used by governments to collect, analyse, and interpret labour-market data. An LMIS typically brings together information on employment, unemployment, occupations, skills, wages, demographics, and workforce demand and supply to support evidence-based policymaking.This strategic move reinforces the ministry's leadership in adopting proactive, data-driven labour policies.This upgrade represents a strategic leap that positions Qatar among leading nations utilising advanced technology to support decision-making and anticipate the future of the labour market. The initiative is fully aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The system development was carried out in close collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), resulting in an enhanced LMIS that combines deep data analytics with AI-driven forecasting and analysis, as a first step towards transforming the platform into a fully fledged foresight tool to support long-term planning.The system's competitive advantage lies in its integration of labour-market data with a central AI agent specifically designed to analyse labour policies and provide dynamic forecasts of job demand.By embedding AI in the LMIS, the ministry enables forward-looking planning and policymaking based on projected scenarios, strengthening the state's ability to adapt rapidly to local and global changes.The new technical additions are built around a central intelligent agent that functions as a specialised labour-market analyst trained on labour data and Qatari policy frameworks. The agent delivers analytical insights across three principal strategic lenses: assessing labour-market trends in the context of the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3), and anticipating future labour-market patterns and trajectories as an embedded data-scientist within the system.The agent's role is not limited to centralised analysis: it has been integrated across the system's modules so that decision-makers can interact with it in real time to obtain tailored explanations and summaries by sectoral or demographic context, thereby accelerating informed decision-making with unprecedented efficiency.Additionally, the update provides advanced dynamic reporting tools that allow users to create custom reports using filters and interactive visualisation options, alongside modern dashboards that facilitate deeper data exploration and the ability to download datasets and reports to support institutional planning.Confirming the forward outlook, the ministry is also developing demand-forecasting capabilities for occupations, a pivotal step to anticipate future labour needs and to ensure full alignment between national education and training programmes and market requirements, thereby improving the readiness of national talent. The system is currently accessible to designated stakeholders across ministries.

The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to deliver advanced artificial intelligence projects that accelerate digital transformation across the ministry.The partnership includes the launch of the Awqaf AI Factory, a unified technology environment featuring high-performance computing infrastructure for data processing and model training, and AI platforms built on the ministry's extensive archives.The ministry becomes the first government entity to partner with Google Cloud after the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.Director of Human Resources and Vice-Chairman of the Business and Systems Development Committee, Mohammed bin Hassan al-Malki said co-operation began in January 2024, leveraging Google's technologies to enhance administrative efficiency.He highlighted key initiatives such as the Smart Khateeb Assistant, Media Agent for video generation, Smart Sermon Evaluator, and Real-Time Sermon Translator.The Director of Da'wah and Religious Guidance, Jassim bin Abdullah al-Ali, noted that the Smart Sermon Evaluator delivered rapid, high-impact results, identifying assessment aspects beyond traditional methods.The ministry also migrated Islamweb, one of the world's most visited Islamic platforms, to Google Cloud, strengthening security, scalability, and AI-powered search and fatwa services.The Assistant Director of Mosques, Mohammed bin Abdul Latif al-Mahmoud, said the Smart Khateeb Assistant supports preachers with reliable scholarly content, relevant topic suggestions, and human-in-the-loop editing to enhance sermon effectiveness.Engineering Director at Google Cloud Gulf, Hatem al-Muhandis, praised the partnership for demonstrating how AI can preserve Islamic culture while improving operational efficiency, adding that Awqaf is Google Cloud's largest government partner after MCIT.
