Qatar's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will organize the second edition of MWC26 Doha, alongside the Communications Regulatory Authority's hosting of the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26).Organized by the GSMA in partnership with MCIT, MWC26 Doha will take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from Nov. 8 to 10, 2026. Meanwhile, the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) will take place at the same venue from Nov. 9 to 27, 2026 and will be hosted by the Communications Regulatory Authority.Bringing the two events together represents a new model that unites technology and policy on a single platform and connects global digital policy directions with the practical application of technologies across the sector. It also provides a global platform for enhancing collaboration and knowledge exchange among governments, regulators, companies, and experts, helping to accelerate digital transformation, support the implementation of the Digital Agenda 2030, and unlock new opportunities for digital growth and innovation.Holding both events at the same venue will allow PP-26 delegates to move from discussing global policies and directions to directly exploring, through MWC26 Doha, the latest technologies, solutions, and applications shaping the future of the communications and technology sector.The Communications Regulatory Authority is overseeing organizational and operational preparations for the participation of Member States and international organizations in PP-26.HE Qatar's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai said the concurrent hosting of the two major global events reflected Qatar's growing role in shaping the future of global connectivity and telecommunications policy.His Excellency further emphasized that hosting the events reinforces Qatar's commitment to achieving the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030 and to building a thriving digital economy and a sustainable digital society.For his part, Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla Al Muslemani, President of Qatar's Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Chair-Designate of ITU PP-26, said hosting of the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) alongside MWC26 Doha, reflects Qatar's leading role in shaping the future of global connectivity and its regulatory frameworks.Al Muslemani stressed the Authority's commitment to fostering an advanced regulatory environment that supports digital transformation. He expressed the hope that hosting this prominent international event would contribute to leading a constructive global dialogue that helps guide international telecommunications policy and shape a more inclusive and sustainable global digital ecosystem.Vivek Badrinath, Director General of the GSMA, said the inaugural edition of MWC Doha last year clearly demonstrated the scale of Qatar's digital ambition.He said this year's decision to hold MWC Doha alongside the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference would bring international policymakers and industry leaders together in Doha, creating a platform for regulators, ministers, telecommunications operators and technology leaders to discuss the future of global connectivity.MWC26 Doha will also see the return of the GSMA Ministerial Program, which provides a high-level platform for discussing digital governance and investment priorities and supporting the next phase of connectivity development. The program brought together 60 delegations from 49 countries and 11 intergovernmental organizations during its previous edition.Held every four years, the Plenipotentiary Conference is the supreme policy-making body of the International Telecommunication Union. It sets the Union's strategic and financial direction for the coming years and holds elections for its five top leadership positions, in addition to electing 48 Member States to serve on the ITU Council and 12 members of the Radio Regulations Board.MWC26 Doha builds on the success of its inaugural edition in 2025, which attracted more than 9,000 participants from 110 countries and territories, nearly 300 speakers, and more than 250 exhibitors and sponsors. The event also saw the announcement of more than 30 major partnerships and initiatives. 

Seven years ago, Snoonu was a food delivery startup in Qatar; a country of 3.18mn people, a market most global tech investors would have called too small to matter.Today, Snoonu is Qatar's first tech company to cross a QR1bn valuation. It is selling the infrastructure that powered its growth to governments and businesses globally.That shift - from platform to infrastructure provider - is the story behind Snoonu Cloud, a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) product launched during Web Summit Qatar 2026. Snoonu attempted to do what almost no company from a small Gulf market has done before: export the technology stack it built for itself and turn it into a product others can build on.The question worth asking is not whether Snoonu can pull it off; it is why this story is only starting to be told.Snoonu was founded in 2019. By 2024, it had achieved profitability and tripled its gross merchandise value. It was acquired in a $245mn deal by Saudi-listed Jahez International, the largest tech acquisition in Qatar's history, at a post-money valuation of $320mn, making it the first Qatari startup to break the QR1bn mark.But the valuation number alone undersells what was actually built. Over six years, Snoonu did not just build a delivery app. It built a full-stack ecosystem: multi-vertical commerce, last-mile logistics, cloud infrastructure, and a data layer that now spans millions of transactions across food, grocery, e-commerce, and services.That stack became the foundation for something larger. At Web Summit Qatar 2026, alongside new ventures in robotics and EV charging, Snoonu unveiled the commercial version of its infrastructure: Snoonu Cloud.Snoonu Cloud is a PaaS model that allows governments, businesses, and markets to deploy Snoonu's integrated ecosystem — commerce, logistics, and digital services — within their own markets. In plain terms: A partner can take Snoonu's proven tech infrastructure, adapt it to local needs, and launch their own digital ecosystem without building from scratch.That is a significant proposition. Building a delivery and commerce ecosystem from zero typically takes years and tens of millions in R&D. Snoonu Cloud compresses that timeline, offering a ready-to-deploy framework built on cloud-native architecture, AI-driven logistics, and data systems proven at scale in a live market.“We started by solving everyday challenges, and today we are enabling entire ecosystems to be built from the ground up. This is about taking a model created in Qatar and scaling it globally,” said Snoonu founder & CEO Hamad al-Hajri.“Our goal is to empower governments and businesses with the infrastructure they need to launch and scale digital ecosystems faster, more efficiently, and with full adaptability to local market needs,” said Abdulaziz Alqahtani, GM of S Cloud & Robotics at Snoonu.The timing is not accidental. The global cloud market is valued at $1.18tn in 2026 and is projected to reach $3.35tn by 2033. PaaS is its fastest-growing segment. Within the GCC alone, the cloud market stood at $16.45bn in 2024 and is expanding at a 20.3% compound annual growth rate — one of the highest rates of any region globally.But the more compelling data point is not the size of the market — it's where the gap is. Dozens of governments and mid-sized economies across Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America are in active digital transformation but lack the local expertise or capital to build their own ecosystems from scratch. Snoonu Cloud is designed precisely for that gap.There is a larger story sitting underneath the Snoonu Cloud announcement that has so far received limited coverage: the emergence of Qatar as a digital innovation exporter rather than a consumer of imported technology.Qatar Investment Authority's $3bn fund-of-funds, QRDI Council grants supporting Snoonu's robotics programme, and the country's hosting of Web Summit — now one of the world's largest tech conferences — are pieces of the same puzzle. Snoonu Cloud is where that infrastructure investment becomes a product.For the first time, a company built on Qatari soil and scaled within a domestic market of under 3mn people is now positioned to sell its core technology to governments and enterprises globally. That is a meaningful inflection point — for Snoonu, for Qatar, and for the narrative around which markets produce exportable technology.While Snoonu Cloud targets markets globally, the company's regional expansion offers a live proof of the underlying model. In May 2026, Snoonu launched operations in Kuwait, its first market outside Qatar, deploying groceries, courier services, gifts, and home services through its existing tech stack.Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain are not just a growth play. It is a demonstration that Snoonu's infrastructure can be adapted to a different regulatory environment, consumer profile, and competitive landscape within months. For prospective Snoonu Cloud partners, that is the case study. 

Qatar Post has taken a decisive step in its digital transformation strategy by partnering with India Post and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to launch a new remittance service, enabling near real-time transfers from Doha to India. The initiative, unveiled during celebrations of India’s 80th Independence Day in Qatar yesterday, is expected to reshape the remittance market by offering institutional trust and competitive value to thousands of Indian workers and their families, according to Sandeep Kumar, chargé d'affaires of the Indian embassy in Doha.Addressing key dignitaries and officials during the India Utsav 2026 celebrations at LuLu Hypermarket Al Gharrafa, Kumar explained that the service enables customers in Qatar to send money transfers to beneficiaries in India via the ‘PosTransfer’ service powered by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Kumar further pointed out that the service integrates the UPI with the trusted networks of both postal systems, noting that customers can remit between QR10 and QR4,000 at a nominal fee, with funds credited almost instantly to UPI linked accounts in India.Kumar noted that with more than 800,000 Indians residing in Qatar, establishing a credible remittance channel “makes strong commercial sense.” He continued to explain that while other exchange systems exist, the postal partnership adds institutional reliability, particularly for low income workers who depend on secure and transparent transfers.He emphasised that credibility and reliability are the strongest features of the mechanism. For workers in the Industrial Area who may lack access to mobile banking, the ability to transact in cash or card at a Qatar Post branch provides a secure alternative, he stated.According to Kumar, the system is fully integrated with UPI IDs, ensuring recipients in India receive SMS notifications without needing to visit a post office.Kumar also pointed out that exchange rates are managed transparently by state institutions, ensuring competitive value for senders and recipients alike. He described the initiative as a welcome step that reflects the strength of bilateral ties and a shared commitment to financial inclusion.He noted that the launch of the new initiative on India’s Independence Day added symbolic weight to the occasion, reinforcing the role of financial services in deepening economic and social connections between Qatar and India.Mohammed Zayed and Shenfeer Kalliyath of Qatar Post said the partnership strengthens the institution’s digital transformation strategy while addressing the needs of the large Indian community in Qatar. Kalliyath highlighted that India Post’s extensive nationwide network adds value, particularly for workers from lower income backgrounds and remote regions. Zayed added that he will propose branch expansion in the Industrial Area to ensure accessibility for resident workers and communities that rely heavily on remittances.State-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the launch of the service comes within the framework of Qatar Post's efforts to develop its service system and expand the scope of financial solutions it offers, keeping pace with customer needs and the rapid developments witnessed in the postal and financial services sector.“Furthermore, the cooperation with India Post and UPU reflects the importance of international partnerships in developing postal and financial services and expanding their scope. “This falls under Qatar Post's strategy to leverage global expertise and postal networks to provide practical and reliable solutions that serve customers, strengthen the ties between Qatar and India, and facilitate money transfers for Indian expatriates residing in the country,” QNA added.

Nine out of every 10 taxpayers in Qatar filed their returns for the 2025 tax year, the General Tax Authority (GTA) has said, a compliance rate of 90% that marks a 13.9% improvement on 2024 and the clearest sign yet that the country's tax system is bedding in.The authority said Thursday the results follow a sustained push to modernise tax administration through digital transformation, sharpen the services offered to taxpayers and keep the lines of communication with them open.Much of the gain rests on the Dhareeba portal, where successive upgrades have made tax services faster, simpler and easier to reach. Improvements to the authority's electronic services have stripped complexity out of the filing process itself, helping taxpayers meet their obligations without wrestling with the paperwork.Technology alone, however, does not build a filing culture. The GTA paired the portal work with a wide-ranging awareness campaign, publishing explanatory and guidance material through its website and social media platforms to spell out what taxpayers owe, when they owe it and how to file — material pitched at the full spread of taxpayer categories rather than the well-advised few.Alongside the campaign, the authority has continued to widen its direct channels to taxpayers, fielding queries and offering the guidance needed to file accurately and on time.The GTA said it would press on with both tracks — deepening its digital services and expanding awareness initiatives — reinforcing what it describes as a partnership with taxpayers and building towards a more efficient and transparent tax system. 

Global consulting firm Uniqus Consultech has officially inaugurated its Doha office, marking another step in its GCC expansion strategy. With Qatar accelerating its digital transformation agenda and strengthening its focus on governance and sustainability, the firm sees significant opportunities to support organisations across both the public and private sectors. Dinesh Jangid, Regional Managing Partner, Middle East, Uniqus Consultech, says the company was built around a simple question: "If you were going to build a consulting firm from scratch, relevant for the future, what would it look like?" That thinking, he explains, shaped a firm focused on "deep specialization across a focused set of areas rather than trying to do everything, a proprietary technology stack we own and build ourselves, a pure-play corporate structure with no audit practice and therefore no conflicts, and our global delivery model." He says the firm's no-audit-conflict model is a key differentiator. "Large global firms face independence restrictions that limit what advisory they can provide to their audit clients. We have no such constraints, which means we can go deeper for clients." Uniqus operates across five specialist service lines: Accounting and Reporting Consulting, Governance Risk and Compliance, Sustainability and Climate Consulting, Tech Consulting and Valuations. Supporting these are its proprietary platforms, Reporting UniVerse, Risk UniVerse, ESG UniVerse and AI UniVerse. "AI is not a layer we bolted on," Jangid says. "We have invested heavily in building our own agentic AI capability into AI UniVerse, so the platforms actively do the work, not just report on it." The company has grown rapidly since its launch, with more than 800 professionals, over 100 partners and directors, 13 offices across the US, Middle East and India and more than 400 clients worldwide. "We went from $7 million to $50 million in revenue in three years. That growth reflects both the product-market fit and the quality of what we have built." The Doha office is already operational and serving clients across Qatar's public and private sectors. "We are already partnering with several large organisations in Qatar, and the team is being deliberately built to match the depth of demand we are seeing in the market," Jangid says. "Our approach in every new market has been to build a localized consulting business with local leadership and staff, prioritize quality of people over speed of hiring. Qatar is no different. Having local presence gives our clients the comfort that we are here for good."The firm's initial focus in Qatar will be on technology and digital transformation across finance and risk functions, governance, risk and compliance and sustainability reporting. According to Jangid, many of Qatar's leading companies have expanded rapidly while their finance functions have not kept pace. "There is a real gap in how the function is structured, automated and governed, and we are seeing strong demand for transformation advisory that addresses this end to end, from finance operations and reporting to AI use cases in finance." Rather than simply advising clients on AI, he says, "we are embedding it directly into finance workflows through AI UniVerse." He also expects increasing demand for stronger governance frameworks, internal controls and enterprise risk management as organisations respond to evolving regulatory requirements. Uniqus plans to introduce AI-driven internal audit capabilities that move internal audit from "a periodic, backward-looking exercise to a continuous, insight-generating function." Sustainability reporting is another major focus. "Organizations are realizing that compliance requires data infrastructure, governance frameworks and technical depth, not just intent, and that is precisely where we are strongest. Increasingly, that data infrastructure needs to be AI-ready, and we are building our sustainability offering in Qatar around that from day one." Jangid says Qatar was a natural choice for expansion. "The fundamentals here are strong and converging at the same time."He points to Qatar National Vision 2030, ongoing investment in technology and AI and major developments across sectors such as energy, real estate, logistics and financial services as key growth drivers."Diversification, investment in human capital and the building of world-class institutions create sustained, long-term demand for specialist advisors across finance, governance and sustainability. We are not here for a moment. We are here for the long haul." Even before officially opening its office, the company had secured clients across both the public and private sectors. "That early traction reflects the strength of the demand we identified when we made the decision to enter," Jangid says.He believes the firm's expertise is relevant to listed companies, government and semi-government entities, family-owned businesses preparing for IPOs and Qatar's growing start-up ecosystem. "Every one of these clients is asking where AI fits into their finance, risk or reporting function. That is a conversation we are equipped to have properly because we have built and use the AI capability ourselves rather than pointing clients to a vendor." He adds that another priority is bringing relevant global experience, particularly from advanced markets such as the US, to organisations across the region. Looking ahead, Jangid expects Qatar to mirror the firm's rapid growth in other Middle East markets."We expect Qatar to follow the trajectory we have seen in our other Middle East markets, which is faster than most people expect when we enter and more sustainable because we are deliberate about how we build." While the company's services will expand over time, growth will continue to be measured. "We would rather be smaller and excellent than large and inconsistent." He adds that the firm's technology platforms will enable it to scale efficiently without relying solely on increasing headcount.Qatar is also central to the company's wider regional ambitions. "Qatar is the third market in our GCC strategy alongside Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The long-term goal is to be the leading specialist advisory firm across the GCC, not the largest, the most specialized and the most trusted." Within Qatar, the ambition is to become "the firm of choice for organizations that need genuine depth in financial reporting, governance, risk and technology advisory."Although he does not disclose market-specific revenue targets, Jangid says the outlook is promising. "Qatar is already generating meaningful revenue ahead of our formal office opening, which tells you something about the depth of demand here. Our Middle East business is already more than a third of our global revenues and we expect this to continue in the coming years."  

Qatar's healthcare sector is investing heavily in digital transformation and the latest smart health technologies, marking a new phase for laboratory diagnostics and genetic testing.Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has adopted advanced digital systems to manage laboratory operations and integrate analytical instruments with medical records electronically, delivering test results securely and immediately while reducing turnaround times and improving accuracy and quality.This digital transformation aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to build an integrated digital healthcare system driven by innovation, data, and advanced technologies to support faster clinical decision-making, improve the patient experience, and enhance resource efficiency.Digital transformation has become a cornerstone of healthcare development in Qatar, with expanding use of artificial intelligence and data analytics strengthening the sector's readiness for future challenges while raising the quality and efficiency of diagnostic services.Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Chairman, Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, revealed that the department has achieved significant advances through qualitative achievements, record numbers, and large-scale digital transformations that reinforce the role of medical laboratories as a key pillar of Qatar's modern healthcare system.In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), she said HMC laboratories perform more than 20 million diagnostic tests annually, including approximately 153,000 genetic tests conducted by its Genetic Diagnostics Laboratory. These include testing for inherited disorders, genetic mutations linked to blood cancers and lymph nodes and other diseases, as well as premarital and newborn screenings.She said the current phase of digital transformation has focused on improving operational efficiency, accelerating reporting of results and enhancing service quality.As part of developing its precision medicine services, HMC has launched an in-house Clinical Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) for the first time, alongside new pharmacogenomics and thrombophilia testing services, expanding its ability to deliver personalized diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Al Kuwari highlighted.In terms of blood transfusion services, Al Kuwari said Qatar has achieved self-sufficiency in blood and blood components through strong donor participation. HMC has also secured international accreditation for 11 sites and introduced the use of Low Titer O Whole Blood for critically injured trauma patients, improving survival rates through faster treatment of severe bleeding.She added that HMC has introduced cryopreservation technology for rare blood group red blood cell units, allowing them to be stored for up to 30 years, strengthening preparedness for complex and rare clinical cases.In the organ transplantation field, Qatar's only histocompatibility laboratory continues to support kidney and bone marrow transplant programs using advanced technologies that reduce the risk of immune rejection and improve transplant outcomes. The laboratory also offers advanced tests, including cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and immune cell function testing to support monitoring of transplant patients.Al Kuwari said the Cell Therapy Laboratory continues to provide stem cell-based bone marrow transplant for adult cancer patients, with an increase of 19% compared to last year.In clinical biochemistry, she said, HMC has introduced therapeutic drug monitoring, lipoprotein(a) testing to support early cardiovascular disease detection, expanded zinc and preeclampsia screening, and deployed advanced polymerase chain reaction (PCR) systems for respiratory virus testing.The anatomical pathology laboratory receives more than 60,000 tissue samples annually, with cancer or suspected cancer cases accounting for around 13% of total cases. The growing volume reflects increasing demand for histopathology services and their central role in early cancer detection, supported by advanced diagnostic technologies that improve accuracy and speed clinical decision-making, enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.Meanwhile, the microbiology department, she added, continues to strengthen efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance by developing national surveillance profiles, implementing the One Health approach, and expanding diagnostic supervision and infection prevention programs that improve diagnostic efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance patient safety.On medical education, Al Kuwari said the department organized Qatar's first pathology conference and was accredited as a venue for the Royal College of Pathologists Fellowship (FRCPath) examinations, postgraduate and fellowship training programs, and strengthened academic collaboration with Qatar University.Dr. Al Kuwari concluded that the achievements in HMC's laboratory medicine and pathology represent a strategic shift toward building a smart national laboratory system based on innovation, technology, scientific research, and skilled professionals, further enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety in Qatar. 

Saudi Arabia's ROSHN Group is seeking investors for its Aramco Stadium, a 2034 FIFA World Cup venue, three sources told Reuters, as the state-backed developer looks to free up capital to deliver projects for the kingdom's economic transformation strategy.As the Saudi government works to plug a widening budget deficit, public entities are increasingly tapping outside capital to help fund the logistics, tourism and sports projects meant to cut the economy's reliance on oil and gas revenue.ROSHN, which is owned by $1.2tn sovereign wealth fund PIF, has hired JPMorgan to run the equity fundraising process, said two of the sources, who asked not to be named because the matter is not public.The third source said PIF and ROSHN have been testing private investor appetite for the stadium.Aramco and JPMorgan declined to comment, while ROSHN and PIF did not reply to requests for comment.The Aramco Stadium is set to be completed by the end of this year and host its first game in January.Saudi Aramco, the state oil giant, operates the stadium under a 25-year concession, with ROSHN as owner and developer of the project.The transaction being pursued by ROSHN is expected to follow a lease and leaseback structure, the sources said.Similar infrastructure fundraising deals used by Aramco for its oil and gas pipeline assets have attracted investors including EIG Global Energy Partners and Global Infrastructure Partners, part of BlackRock.Under the model, ROSHN would establish a vehicle to control the leasehold that it would co-own with the investors, who would provide funds up front.The transaction would inject fresh funding from investors into the project, while freeing up capital for ROSHN to deploy its funds elsewhere. The investors, in turn, would receive a long-term income stream in the form of a share of the lease payments from Aramco.Under the Vision 2030 economic overhaul plan, PIF has invested heavily in sports, including in Formula E, boxing, tennis, e-sports as well as soccer.The 2034 World Cup is a marquee event for the kingdom and a top priority for its economic transformation plan.Riyadh is working to build or renovate 15 stadiums across five cities for the tournament, including the 47,000-seat Aramco Stadium in the eastern city of Al Khobar, as well as 132 training venues.The 2034 competition will mark the first time a single nation hosts the expanded 48-team format, which Saudi Arabia's Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal said this week presented unique challenges.But overspending and lower-than-anticipated global oil prices that have throttled state revenues have left Saudi Arabia struggling to deliver some of its flagship projects.Trojena, for example, a showpiece mountain resort part of the NEOM desert mega city, was originally set to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games but has faced delays.Riyadh is now hoping private investors can step in and help take up some of the shortfall, and a deal for the Aramco Stadium would not be the first transaction involving Saudi-owned sports assets.Kingdom Holding Company signed an agreement in April to acquire a 70% stake in Saudi Pro League soccer club Al Hilal from the PIF. An American investor took over smaller club Al Kholood last year as part of a wider privatisation drive.Reuters reported in May that the PIF was in talks with investors over them taking a minority stake in Newcastle United as part of its fundraising plans for the club's stadium.

 Experts hailed the launch of the Digital Transformation Programme as a strategic investment in the nation’s future workforce, saying it equips young Qataris with the skills needed to lead the country’s digital transformation while directly aligning education with labour market demands.  They said the programme, which is under Qatar’s 2026–2027 Government Scholarship Plan, goes beyond the traditional scholarship model by offering an integrated pathway that begins in secondary school and continues through university education, practical training, employment, and ongoing professional development.  Designed through a partnership between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, the initiative focuses on high-demand digital disciplines including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud computing.  Experts told reporters that the programme responds directly to Qatar’s growing demand for digital specialists and supports the country’s transition toward a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. They noted that its “employment-linked scholarship” model ensures graduates are prepared for real vacancies identified by the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, strengthening long-term career prospects while supporting Qatar National Vision 2030.  Educational expert Khalifa al-Manai described the programme as a modern approach to government scholarships.  “It gives students a clear roadmap from secondary school to employment and prepares them for the digital skills that will define tomorrow’s labour market,” he said, urging students and parents to seize opportunities in future-focused fields such as AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing and data science.  Educational expert Sultan al-Kuwari said the initiative represents a significant shift in scholarship policy by linking academic choices with national development priorities.  “Instead of choosing majors without direction, students can now build careers based on the country’s future workforce needs,” he said, adding that the combination of scholarships, practical training, career guidance and employment guarantees makes the programme a unique opportunity for young Qataris.  Technology and information security expert Engineer Mohammed al-Saqatri said the programme reflects a long-term national strategy to build homegrown digital talent.  “The demand for qualified professionals in digital transformation and cybersecurity continues to outpace supply. Investing in national talent is essential toprotecting Qatar’s digital future,” he said.  Al-Saqatri noted that organisations are adopting artificial intelligence more quickly than they can recruit cybersecurity specialists to manage emerging risks, making local expertise more important than ever.  Cybersecurity expert, Eng Khalid al-Amari, said prioritising cybersecurity demonstrates Qatar’s recognition of digital security as a pillar of national security.  “Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical discipline. It safeguards critical infrastructure, government services and sensitive data, making it one of the most important careers of the future,” he said.  He added that combining academic study with hands-on industry training will ensure graduates enter the workforce with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, positioning them to play a leading role in Qatar’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

Qatar is launching a government scholarship that guarantees graduates a job, offering students up to QR20,000 a month to study digital fields abroad as part of a drive to build a homegrown technology workforce.The Digital Transformation Programme, unveiled Tuesday for the 2026/2027 academic year, is run by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) in co-operation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau. It is built around what officials called the principle of "scholarship ending with employment", tying every funded discipline to national priorities and a job after graduation.MOEHE Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr Hareb Mohammed al-Jabri described it as one of the most significant strategic scholarship initiatives launched to date, marking a shift away from general scholarships towards specialised programmes targeting labour-market needs. The scheme carries students from secondary school through university, training, employment and long-term career development, he said, with awareness campaigns planned through the year to familiarise students and parents with digital specialisations.Benefits vary by track. Students at approved premier universities abroad will receive monthly stipends of up to QR20,000, two annual business-class tickets, pre-departure allowances of up to QR40,000, academic excellence rewards, and recognition of study years as service years. Those on the engineering, science and technology track at approved universities will get monthly allowances of up to QR14,000, annual travel tickets, pre-departure support of up to QR25,000 and guaranteed employment on graduation. Domestic scholarship students will receive monthly stipends and full tuition at approved institutions, including Education City and other local universities offering digital and advanced-technology programmes.A central feature, developed with MCIT, is integrated practical training, giving students internships at leading technology organisations throughout their studies so they gain professional experience before entering the workforce.Applicants must meet Government Scholarship Plan requirements, including a minimum secondary-school average of 80% for scientific and technological tracks. Humanities students may enter through an academic bridging programme and must also meet university admission requirements, while overseas applicants must secure final, unconditional admission from an approved institution. al-Jabri said the number of scholarships would remain flexible and be set by national workforce needs, adding that local higher education institutions now offer more than 40 programmes in the field.Registration for overseas scholarships, Education City institutions and private local universities runs from July 1 to August 15. Applications for government universities under the domestic track will be accepted from November 15 to December 30 through the Government Scholarship Platform.MCIT Director of Human Resources Abdullah al-Khalifa said the programme directly supports Qatar's Digital Agenda and the Third National Development Strategy by preparing specialists and future leaders to manage technology projects. Participants will benefit from internships during summer and official breaks, access to local and international technology events, and mentorship programmes, with continued support in securing employment and ongoing professional development through partnerships with leading technology firms.The programme focuses on priority disciplines including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital analytics and cloud computing, with the list updated regularly in line with labour-market needs.Director of Government Manpower Planning at the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau Al Anoud al-Naemi said the Bureau works with government entities to monitor labour-market trends and match academic specialisations to the national digital agenda. She noted that amendments to the Human Resources Law had raised the work-nature allowance for engineering specialisations, particularly computer engineering, from 35% to 75%, with additional benefits introduced for cybersecurity specialists. Early workforce planning, she added, would help build a generation of qualified nationals capable of leading the country's digital transformation.  

Qatar Chamber recently set up a new Technology and Innovation Committee to accelerate digital transformation across the country's private sector, with an open invitation extended to German technology firms to join the body.The committee aims to support business digital transformation, promote technology adoption, and strengthen cooperation with global innovation partners, according to Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli.Al-Obaidli made the remarks while participating in the first panel session of the 29th Arab-German Business Forum in Germany, held under the theme 'Partner Country Qatar – Navigating Global Change: Investment, Innovation, and Strategic Cooperation in Times of Uncertainty'.The session, moderated by Ghorfa president Olaf Hoffmann, examined Qatar's position as a stable and diversified global hub driven by its economic spread across energy, infrastructure, technology, aviation, tourism, and education.It also addressed the impact of geopolitical shifts on global trade and Qatar's innovation-led development model, as well as the country's economic partnership with Germany.Al-Obaidli described the committee as a bridge connecting technology providers, investors, policymakers, academia, startups, and the private sector to convert innovation into measurable economic value and business growth.He added that the committee also seeks to strengthen Qatar's standing as a globally connected digital economy hub, enabling businesses to tap into international markets and new digital opportunities.On a practical level, the committee will support SMEs and larger enterprises through digital transformation programmes, AI adoption initiatives, startup-corporate collaboration, innovation partnerships, cybersecurity readiness, workforce upskilling, and access to funding and technology ecosystems, al-Obaidli noted.During the forum discussions, al-Obaidli said Germany is among the most prominent trading partners of Arab countries, with bilateral trade reaching approximately €57.6bn in 2024.He also noted that joint investments between Germany and Arab countries have helped cement longstanding economic ties between both sides.On the Qatar-Germany relationship specifically, al-Obaidli pointed out that more than “300” German companies are active in the Qatari market across sectors including energy, technology, services, construction, railways, telecommunications, and medical devices and equipment.Germany ranks as the third-largest European destination for Qatari investments, while Qatar stands as one of the largest investors in the German economy, with investments totalling around €25bn, he stated.Al-Obaidli said Qatar Chamber has a role in building communication channels between the business communities of both countries, facilitating investment and trade partnerships, and turning the bilateral relationship into tangible economic projects.He added that Qatar Chamber's engagement with Germany will extend beyond trade volumes to leading strategic partnerships in innovation, entrepreneurship, and joint investment in technology and advanced industry. 

Cyber resilience is a foundational requirement, not an afterthought, in Qatar’s digital transformation drive, a top official of a cybersecurity firm has said.“Cybersecurity is a fundamental enabler of digital transformation,” Patrick Dannacher, chief executive of ITSEC Asia, told Gulf Times.According to Dannacher, resilience against cyber threats is essential to sustaining growth and maintaining trust as Qatar presses ahead with artificial intelligence (AI), smart infrastructure, and the digital economy.He identified three areas where the company can contribute: helping organisations strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities, developing local talent, and applying best practices drawn from engagements across Southeast Asia, Australia and the Middle East.The threat environment facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals in the region has grown more dangerous and more deceptive, Dannacher said, noting that phishing, credential theft, ransomware, business email compromise and AI-enabled scams are now the most common attack types.He also warned that what has changed is how convincing these attacks have become.“Artificial intelligence allows attackers to create highly personalised phishing emails, realistic voice cloning and even deepfakes. The barrier to entry for cybercriminals has become much lower, while the scale and speed of attacks continue to increase,” he pointed out.Unlike human operators, AI-powered attacks run continuously, making them harder to detect and more persistent than earlier generations of threats, he explained.Dannacher said, “Smaller businesses are increasingly becoming targets because attackers understand that they often have fewer resources and less visibility than larger enterprises ... SMEs are part of larger supply chains, which means compromising one smaller organisation can provide access to many others.”According to Dannacher, simple measures such as enabling multi-factor authentication, keeping systems updated, using strong passwords, and, raising awareness among employees and family members can significantly reduce risk.“Cybersecurity does not have to be complicated. Good cyber hygiene and awareness remain some of the most effective defences available,” he said.On state-sponsored threats, Dannacher pointed out that no single company, government agency, or technology can address the problem alone.He further explained that these attacks tend to be well-funded, highly sophisticated, and persistent, which means the response has to be coordinated across government, regulators, critical infrastructure operators, universities, and the private sector.Everyone has a defined role, he said. “The regulator helps establish the baseline; companies need to strengthen their defences, universities need to help develop talent, and information needs to be shared across the ecosystem,” Dannacher emphasised.He noted that preparation matters as much as architecture. Dannacher said most organisations run fire drills several times a year, but far fewer conduct cyber exercises with the same regularity.“Cyber drills help identify weaknesses, test response capabilities, and make sure people know what to do before an incident happens, not during one,” he said.Supply chain security has become an equally pressing concern, given how deeply interconnected organisations now are, Dannacher said, adding that a single supplier’s weakness can run through an entire ecosystem.“The countries that bring together government, industry, and academia most effectively will be the ones best positioned to deal with these increasingly sophisticated threats,” Dannacher added.
