His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani attended on Tuesday a graduation ceremony for the 26th cohort of national service recruits at the National Service Academy. The graduates completed a year-long training program that combined practical and theoretical instruction, achieving a range of objectives designed to prepare them for service and leadership responsibilities. During the ceremony, HE Sheikh Saoud launched the Muqdam Al Ghad (Tomorrow's Pioneer) summer training program, which will run from June 28 to July 23. The initiative is aimed at developing leadership skills and strengthening national identity among participants aged between 11 and 15, helping equip them to meet future challenges with a strong sense of patriotism. At the conclusion of the event, His Excellency honored the top-performing graduates from the 26th cohort in recognition of their achievements during the training program. The ceremony was also attended by HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani, HE Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani, and Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces Lt Gen (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, alongside senior military officers of the Qatari Armed Forces and families of the graduates.

Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Qatar Music Academy (QMA) has won one of the world’s most prestigious seals of approval for musical education, making it the first institution in the Gulf region to gain this recognition. QMA, part of QF Pre-University Education, has been accredited by MusiQuE (Music Quality Enhancement) and finds itself among an elite company that includes institutions dating back centuries. MusiQuE accreditation is an independent accreditation body exclusively dedicated to setting global standards for music education. Based in Katara Cultural Village and established in 2011, QMA provides comprehensive Arab and Western classical music education programmes that nurture talented young musicians to be the next generation of world-class musicians, while also researching and helping to safeguard the musical heritage of Qatar and the region. “This milestone affirms Qatar’s capacity to build specialised cultural institutions rooted in local identity, strengthened by academic rigour, and recognised by international standards,” said Dr Ozgur Mert Esen, head of Western Music, QMA. “Since its establishment, QMA has become one of the most distinctive music education institutions in the region. Its importance lies not only in the students it has served or the graduates it has prepared, but in the educational system it has built.” Gaining recognition from MusiQuE, Dr Esen explained, is the culmination of “a seven-year journey” to demonstrate how QMA’s education model, developed for Qatar, met international standards. The accreditation, he said, shows how this model is “not only locally meaningful, but internationally credible”. “One of the most historically significant dimensions of this achievement is the international recognition of QMA’s dual musical identity,” he said. “QMA brings together Arab and Western music traditions within one education framework. This is not a decorative feature; it is one of our defining strengths.” The recognition, says Dr Esen, makes QMA “a regional reference point for pre-college music education” and “places Qatar at the forefront of an emerging regional conversation about the future of professional music education, cultural heritage, and artistic excellence.” “For Qatar, and the region, it demonstrates that Arab musical heritage can be protected, transmitted, developed, and internationally recognised,” he said. “It also confirms that cultural authenticity and international standards are not opposing forces. When carefully designed, they can strengthen one another.” The accreditation, according to Taoufik Mirkhan, head of Arab Music at QMA, is a particular milestone for the academy’s Arab Music Department. “For students, it provides international recognition of their academic achievements and opens broader opportunities for pursuing further education and professional careers on a global scale, while maintaining their connection to their Arab musical identity,” he said. “For faculty members, it strengthens a culture of quality assurance and continuous professional development, while supporting the exchange of expertise within a learning environment guided by international standards.” Zlatan Fazlic, director of Qatar Music Academy, said: “This accreditation is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our students and staff, who have continuously raised the bar over the years”. 

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced the suspension of Lusail Tram services from June 26 to July 5 to facilitate significant improvement works across the network. The temporary suspension of tram services is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Transport as part of Qatar Rail’s ongoing efforts to enhance passenger services and improve the tram network’s performance. During the service suspension period, replacement bus services will operate between Legtaifiya station and Tarfat — South station to maintain continuity of service for passengers. Additionally, the existing MetroExpress and Metrolink services, including a newly launched Metrolink route M154, will operate to cover the area. Following this work, service in at-grade sections of Tram Lusail will remain suspended, as Qatar Rail carries out comprehensive upgrades to enhance efficiency and improve customers’ journey. MetroExpress and Metrolink will continue to operate, covering this area, ensuring smooth connectivity across the network. Qatar Rail advises customers to refer to the guidance maps displayed at stations to learn about replacement bus routes, the locations of the nearest bus stops, and service frequencies, in addition to following the social media channels and contacting its call centre (105) for the latest updates. 

The EU’s ambassador to Qatar, Dr Cristian Tudor, has underscored the importance of resilience in food security, stressing that safe and reliable food supplies are vital to families, businesses, and national stability.Speaking at the recently held EU Qatar Breakfast Dialogue in Doha, Tudor said the European Union and Qatar share a clear interest in food safety, system resilience, and market access, describing the two sides as natural partners.He explained that trust is the foundation of trade, and both the EU and Qatar want food that is safe, stable, and predictable. “We both want food that is safe, stable, and predictable, and we both know that trust is what makes trade work,” Tudor reiterated.The dialogue, convened by the EU Delegation to Qatar, brought together regulators, industry representatives, and food sector stakeholders to strengthen cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary measures that support secure and sustainable food trade.Held in a hybrid format, the event combined in person participation in Doha with online interventions from senior officials of the European Commission. The programme featured presentations from experts representing the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), and Directorate General for Trade (DG TRADE), followed by contributions from Qatari authorities and an interactive discussion with businesses and industry stakeholders.Tudor’s remarks came against the backdrop of growing global attention to food security, resilient supply chains, and sustainable agricultural systems.In a statement, the EU Delegation to Qatar noted that the EU-Qatar partnership aligns with the Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the National Food Security Strategy 2030, as well as the EU’s commitment to safe, sustainable, and rules based agri food trade.“As Qatar advances the objectives of its National Vision 2030 and National Food Security Strategy 2030, and the EU continues to promote safe, sustainable, and rules based agri food trade, the event provided a timely opportunity to deepen cooperation and exchange expertise on food safety, agricultural sustainability, and trade facilitation,” the statement added.The programme also heard from Jose Iralde, chief strategy officer at Hassad Food, who said Qatar has made substantial strides in self sufficiency but continues to prioritise resilience through sustainability, competitiveness, and diversified trade routes.“These efforts are guided by sustainability considerations to ensure the efficient use of natural resources, improve competitiveness, and support long term food security. At the same time, Qatar continues to expand international trade partnerships and diversify trade routes to strengthen the resilience of its food system further,” Iralde said.Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli added that food security is about building resilient and sustainable ecosystems and emphasised the EU as a strategic partner in innovation, research, and technology.“We see the EU not only as a supplier, but as a strategic partner in innovation, research, technology, and sustainable food systems...looking ahead, our ambition is to make Qatar a hub for food security and technology,” he noted.The discussions also focused on the EU’s ‘Farm to Fork’ approach to food safety, sustainable agricultural systems, and transparent trade frameworks that support food security and market access. Participants also exchanged views on SPS standards and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between regulators and industry stakeholders.Organised under the EU GCC Economic Diversification II Project funded by the EU, the dialogue underscored the growing importance of EU Qatar cooperation in food security, regulatory excellence, and sustainable economic development.

Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani held meetings with three top diplomats from West Africa yesterday at the chamber’s Lusail headquarters.Ambassadors Didio Othman Sidibe of Mali and Amadou Madoukou of Niger, as well as charge d’affaires Amidou Coulibaly of Burkina Faso, discussed a wide range of topics in the presence of Qatar Chamber board member Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli.During the meeting, they reviewed cooperation relations between Qatar and the three countries, particularly in the commercial and economic fields, as well as the investment climate and available investment opportunities.The ambassadors affirmed their countries’ keenness to strengthen trade cooperation with Qatar and attract Qatari investments, particularly in the sectors of industrial development and livestock.Sheikh Khalifa affirmed the Qatari private sector’s growing interest in the African continent, noting that Qatari businessmen are keen to learn about investment opportunities available in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, as well as the investment climate and incentives offered to investors in these countries.

The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) announced it will invest €432mn as a cornerstone investor in RWE's €4bn equity capital raise.RWE is Germany's largest power generation company and one of the leading renewable and flexible energy companies globally. With this transaction, the QIA will increase its stake in RWE from 9.27% to 9.87%.According to a QIA press release, RWE will use the proceeds from the equity capital raise to acquire a 35% indirect stake in Amprion, bringing RWE’s total stake in Amprion to 55%.Amprion is the second largest electricity transmission company in Germany, operating an 11,000km long extra-high-voltage network that transports electricity from the North Sea to the Alps and serves approximately 29mn people across key industrial regions.Amprion is executing a sizeable grid expansion plan aimed at facilitating Germany's electrification and integrating decentralized power generation.

With generous support from philanthropists, Qatar Charity has successfully concluded a specialised medical campaign to combat eye diseases in Somalia. The initiative, conducted over two weeks at Jalkayo General Hospital in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Galmudug State, aimed to improve access to specialised healthcare services for the most vulnerable groups and enhance their quality of life.The campaign served patients from the city of Jalkayo and surrounding rural areas, as well as internally displaced people. During the campaign: more than 600 patients received medical examinations and diagnoses; free medications and treatments were provided to over 300 beneficiaries; and 150 cataract removal and lens implantation surgeries were successfully performed.**media[460223]**The campaign also saw medical eyeglasses being distributed to more than 60 patients, helping many regain their vision despite limited access to specialised healthcare services and the high cost of treatment.Abdulfattah Adam Moallim, director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Somalia, stated that the project reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable communities. He noted that the results highlighted the significant demand for ophthalmology and eye surgery services across the state's regions.He added that restoring sight is not merely about regaining the ability to see; it also means restoring independence and enabling individuals to resume their daily lives. He thanked the donors whose support directly helped restore hope to patients.Meanwhile, Abshir Issa, a health official at the Ministry of Health’s Jalkayo Directorate in Galmudug, emphasised that the campaign helped ease the burden on patients and healthcare facilities. He also stressed the need for similar interventions to continue to meet the growing number of patients requiring eye care services.For his part, Dr Saeed Hassan Jidi, head of the Medical Team, explained that the team handled advanced cases of cataracts and that all surgical procedures were completed successfully, accompanied by the necessary post-operative medical follow-up. He noted that many patients had endured years of suffering due to their inability to afford treatment or access specialised healthcare services.One of the most inspiring human stories highlighted by the campaign was that of Alad Kibal, an 80-year-old man who had lived with blindness for more than six years because of cataracts. The condition had forced him into isolation and deprived him of carrying out his normal daily activities. He had believed that darkness would remain with him for the rest of his life.However, the campaign gave him a new chance. After undergoing successful cataract surgery in both eyes, he regained his sight. Describing the moment his bandages were removed, Gulad said it felt like a “return to life,” as he was finally able to see his surroundings and family members once again.During the past year, Qatar Charity implemented 24 health projects in Somalia, benefiting more than 143,000 people at a total cost exceeding QR9mn, as part of its ongoing efforts to support the healthcare sector and serve the most vulnerable communities.
