In 2025, Qatar Foundation’s Doha Debates strengthened its role as a global platform for truth-seeking dialogue, bringing students and leading thinkers together to explore ideas shaping today’s most urgent questions – from freedom and justice to identity and belonging. Its reach continued to grow, surpassing 13.8mn video views and engaging nearly 7mn followers across social platforms, including more than 1mn YouTube subscribers. A major milestone came with season four of The Negotiators, which earned international recognition, winning the Folio Award for Historical Reporting and the Shorty Award for News & Politics Podcast. Alongside its live programming, Doha Debates released a new season of its flagship debates online, reaching global audiences with Majlis-style conversations on freedom, justice, identity and belonging. Throughout the year, Doha Debates convened a series of international town halls that brought students into direct conversation with leading global thinkers. A sold-out event at the Bradford Literature Festival explored national identity and belonging, moderated by Malika Bilal and featuring Dr Wael B Hallaq, Dr Shashi Tharoor and Dr David Engels. The dialogue then expanded to Latin America with the organisation’s first regional town hall in Buenos Aires, presented in partnership with Years of Culture, where students from Qatar, Argentina, and Chile debated the future of cities, alongside Guadalupe Granero Realini, Akel Ismail Kahera and Nicholas Boys Smith. Doha Debates later returned to Doha, convening students with Dr Omar Suleiman, Dr Gregg Caruso and Prof Jeremy Koons to examine how science, faith and philosophy shape justice and moral responsibility. The year concluded at the Doha Forum with a live episode of The Negotiators, in partnership with Foreign Policy and the International Peace Institute, featuring Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad bin Zeid al-Hussein and Dr Robert Malley, offering rare public insight into diplomacy and peacebuilding. Youth engagement remained central throughout the year. Through town halls, Community of Practice training initiatives and the Doha Debates Ambassador Programme, more than 400 young people from over 80 nations participated annually in dialogue-driven leadership development. Participation has grown from 30 participants in the programme’s first year to a capacity of up to 200 ambassadors. 

On the second day of the third Government Communications Forum, a panel session discussed the role of sport as a unifying narrative that helps inspire individuals and institutions and reinforces shared values within society.The panel examined how sporting values, national identity, and emotional attachment to sport can be leveraged to build influential narratives that transform audience engagement from mere spectatorship into active and meaningful community participation.In this context, participants viewed sport as an effective tool for strengthening national belonging and entrenching values of co-operation, discipline, and teamwork, noting its ability to unite different segments of society around common goals, thereby positively reflecting on social cohesion.They also agreed on the importance of government communication in highlighting the social and human dimensions of sport and shedding light on initiatives and programmes that make it a platform for promoting civic participation and encouraging the public to engage positively with national issues.The director of the Sports Sector at Qatar Olympic Committee, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid al-Thani, affirmed that the committee plays a pivotal role in organising and managing sporting events in the country through its supervision of various sports federations in Qatar and the organisation of the annual sports calendar.He said that the committee established some two years ago a specialised department for sporting events, tasked with organising events in co-operation with the relevant federations.HE Sheikh Khalifa noted that the current sports calendar includes 83 sporting events throughout the year, reflecting Qatar’s status as a leading destination for hosting major events.The official said that preparing sporting events requires long-term efforts extending for months and sometimes years, and stressed that communication is a key element in the success of events, whether with international, continental, and Gulf federations, or through co-ordination with relevant entities within the country.The chief executive of the Local Organising Committee for Football Events, Jassim Abdulaziz al-Jassim, said that the success of hosting tournaments is based on the integration of communication and co-ordination systems among various entities, in a way that reflects a positive image of the country and enhances its global standing.He praised the role played by communication and media bodies, such as the Government Communications Office, the International Media Office, and media institutions, explaining that media co-ordination helped highlight the organisational successes of the tournaments, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the Arab Cup.Al-Jassim noted that Qatar has successfully hosted several tournaments simultaneously, reflecting the country’s capacity for integrated organisation with the participation of all sectors, including security, airports, and border crossings.He added that sporting tournaments have brought about a positive social transformation, through higher rates of family attendance and female participation, increased involvement of children and youth, and the enhanced status of national team stars as socially influential role models.Senior Ooredoo Qatar director of marketing communications Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari noted that the Doha Marathon represents a prominent model of community sporting events.It began, he said, as a simple event, with the number of participants this year rising to more than 20,000 people from over 160 nationalities, including 2,200 participants from outside the country.Al-Kuwari added that the marathon supports the national sports agenda and enhances community participation by engaging all segments of society, including people with autism, with a dedicated race allocated for them this year, reflecting a firm belief in the importance of social inclusion.  

Qatar will host the 38th meeting of the General Secretariat for Centers of Documents and Studies of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries today. The meeting will discuss the development of documentary work and the integration of efforts aimed at preserving the historical and cultural identity of the Arab Gulf states.  High-level delegations from various GCC countries will take part in the meeting as follows: Qatar (host country) will be represented by the National Archives of Qatar and the Documentation and Research Department at the Amiri Diwan; Saudi Arabia will be represented by the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) and the National Center for Archives and Records.  The United Arab Emirates will be represented by Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre, the Sharjah Archives, National Library and Archives, and Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Center and Bahrain will be represented by the National Archives and the Historical Documents Centre.  The Sultanate of Oman will be represented by the National Records and Archives Authority and Kuwait will be represented by the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Center at Kuwait University, Al Diwan Al Amiri Historical Documents, Museums And Libraries Center, and Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait.  The Qatari delegation to the meeting will be headed by Secretary-General of the National Archives of Qatar Dr Ahmed Abdullah al-Buainain. The meeting’s programme includes an accompanying exhibition in which GCC delegations will participate through dedicated pavilions showcasing their key publications, initiatives, and experiences in the fields of documentation, digitisation, and document preservation. The exhibition will highlight achievements, contribute to the exchange of expertise, and strengthen joint documentary work.

Katara Cultural Village hosted a regional forum examining how sports tourism and media can be leveraged as strategic drivers of economic growth, cultural identity and Arab soft power, amid growing regional focus on the role of sport as a development and diplomacy tool.Organised in co-operation with the Arab Federation for Sports Tourism and the Gulf Association for Tourism Media, the forum brought together officials, experts and media professionals from Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman. Discussions centred on developing a sustainable Arab framework linking sports, tourism, the economy and media, with emphasis on hospitality and cultural identity, training and capacity building, and specialised sports and tourism media. A number of figures and participants were honoured during the event.In the opening address of the General Cultural Village Foundation, delivered by Director of the Research and Studies Department at Katara Dr Nadia al-Mudhahka, it was said that the forum reflects Katara’s vision that culture is not an isolated sector but a dynamic force that brings together sports, media and tourism to shape national identity and global perception. She said Qatar has presented a pioneering model by employing sports as a bridge for civilisational communication and highlighting Arab culture as a source of strength and influence.Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Retaj Hotels and Hospitality Group Sheikh Nayef bin Eid al-Thani said the forum reflects the depth of vision and partnerships of the current phase at a time when sports, tourism and media have become central tools in building countries’ global image and strengthening cultural identity at regional and international levels. He stressed that Qatar recognises investment in sports, culture and media as an investment in people, identity and soft power, and has therefore developed an integrated system combining professional organisation, cultural openness and pride in Arab identity.Executive Director of Communications and Media at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Fatma al-Nuaimi said the forum comes at an important moment as the Arab region witnesses a genuine transformation in the sports industry. She noted that sports are emerging as an integrated system encompassing economic development, cultural depth, human impact and stronger ties among Arab peoples. She highlighted the global nature of the Qatari model and the state’s approach to transforming sporting events into tools for sustainable development, and football tournaments into global platforms for tourism attraction and bridge-building among different peoples and cultures.Chairman of the Executive Office of the Forum of Specialised Arab Federations at the League of Arab States Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Jarwan highlighted Qatar’s pioneering and continuous support for Arab and international sports, reflecting an enlightened vision of the role of sport in bringing peoples closer together, promoting development and strengthening positive Arab presence internationally. He said Qatar has presented an advanced Arab and international model by employing sports as a bridge for communication and an effective tool to support tourism and stimulate the economy, adding that the Qatari experience combines organisation, professionalism, advanced infrastructure and a smart global vision, making sports a unifying civilisational platform.President of the Arab Federation for Sports Tourism Kamel Abu Ali praised Qatar’s global professional standards in organising major sporting events and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to supporting high-quality initiatives that enhance Arab identity and belonging.Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for Sports Tourism Dr Sultan bin Khamis al-Yahyai also commended Qatar’s pioneering experience in organising major events and its notable successes over the years, achieved through clear vision, advanced infrastructure and strong organisational expertise, which have positioned the country as a global model. He added that Qatar’s hosting of the forum reflects informed Arab awareness of the importance of sports tourism as a modern pathway for development and as a bridge linking culture, sports and tourism within an integrated institutional framework. 

His Excellency President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA), Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad affirmed that the Arabic language constitutes a fundamental pillar in promoting the values of integrity and transparency and safeguarding cultural identity, adding that ethical values are inseparable from language and culture.In a speech delivered during the celebration of World Arabic Language Day — held in conjunction with the State of Qatar’s hosting of the eleventh session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, His Excellency stated: "The Arabic language is not merely a means of communication; it is a vessel of culture, a repository of values, and a tool for enhancing societal awareness." He explained that "the precision of meaning and the elevated structures embodied in the Arabic language contribute to reinforcing the principles of truthfulness, trustworthiness, and accountability, and to protecting words from distortion and deviation, thereby supporting efforts to build more upright and transparent societies."He noted that the coincidence of World Arabic Language Day with Qatar National Day carries profound symbolism, underscoring the status of the language as a bridge for dialogue, a platform for culture, and a means of upholding human dignity. He said: "The concurrence of World Arabic Language Day with the National Day of the State of Qatar embodies deep symbolism that affirms the language’s role as a bridge for dialogue, a forum for culture, and an instrument for elevating human being and preserving dignity, as well as for renewing national and international commitment to combating corruption."In concluding his remarks, HE Al Misnad commended the efforts of the entities organizing the event, stressing the importance of continuing to strengthen the presence of the Arabic language across various fields, in a manner that contributes to consolidating ethical values and building sustainable societal awareness.

Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi (pictured) affirmed that Qatar National Day (QND) is an occasion that embodies the meanings of loyalty and belonging, and reinforces the values of unity and cohesion that have characterised Qatari society throughout its history.It is also an occasion to celebrate the nation’s achievements across various fields. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency said that the day provides an opportunity to strengthen Qatari identity and consolidate the values of citizenship and social responsibility, particularly under this year’s slogan ‘With You It Rises, From You It Awaits’ which reflects the central role of people in the country’s progress and emphasises the importance of collective efforts in building a cohesive society. She noted that the Qatari family serves as the primary nurturing environment where children are raised with love and loyalty to the homeland, making it a fundamental pillar of comprehensive development.Her Excellency highlighted that the Ministry of Social Development and Family follows a clear vision that places the family at the centre of social development, working to empower families, enhance their stability, and support their educational and social roles. She further explained that this approach aligns with the ministry’s 2025-2030 Strategy (From Care to Empowerment), which aims to invest in human capital, develop programmes that strengthen family cohesion, expand social protection coverage, and empower priority groups to ensure a balanced and stable society. Her Excellency stressed that the family would remain the cornerstone of societal stability and the foundation of national progress, affirming the ministry’s continued commitment to implementing social and economic empowerment plans.

His Excellency the Governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud al-Thani said that Qatar's National Day, which falls on December 18 of every year, is an opportunity to renew belonging, loyalty and allegiance to the homeland and the wise leadership, and to express pride in the national identity.In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, HE the QCB Governor said that celebrating this day embodies the spirit of national unity and commemorates the state's founding, as well as those who shaped Qatar's renaissance, pointing out that it is also an affirmation of the country's commitment to the fundamental principles and values upon which it was founded.HE the QCB Governor highlighted the outstanding achievements that have been accomplished under the wise leadership and vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, which enabled Qatar to occupy an advanced position on the regional and global level. This has been proved by international organisations and institutions that praised the humanitarian and civilisational role played by the State of Qatar in the region and the world as a whole, which is considered a true source of pride.His Excellency praised the noble meanings reflected in Qatar National Day's 2025 slogan 'With You It Rises, From You It Awaits,' drawn from a speech delivered by His Highness the Amir during his 2016 visit to Qatar University, during which His Highness indicated that Qatar prospers through its people and relies on them to continue growing. His Excellency noted that the slogan affirms the value of Qatari citizens and their role in building the country, encouraging them to continue their journey towards development by giving and serving the community.He pointed out that QCB's achievements are in line with the National Day slogan, which affirms that the State of Qatar's renaissance is built by its people, expecting more creativity and innovation from them. He highlighted the bank's keenness to invest in Qatari talents, recognising the value of human resources in achieving economic development, noting that Qatari talents and competencies constitute one of the supporting pillars of the third strategy for the financial sector, and are given the highest priority to create a banking generation of citizens capable of creativity, innovation, and leading the banking and financial sector.He stressed that celebrating Qatar's National Day reflects the country's connection to its past and its historical and cultural identity, as recalls the sacrifices made by its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, the honourable people of Qatar and the leaders who followed the founder, noting that it is they who laid the foundations of the modern state, and achieved accomplishments that link the past with the present, which are commemorated on Qatar National Day.Regarding QCB's achievements for this year, HE the QCB Governor said that 2025 was full of accomplishments that brought about a qualitative leap in the financial sector, in line with the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). Significant progress has been made in implementing the strategic objectives outlined in the Third Financial Sector Strategy, QCB's 2024-2030 Strategy, the FinTech Strategy, and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy for the Financial Sector, he added.HE the Governor of QCB indicated that several pioneering initiatives were implemented, including the issuance of instructions for the establishment and operation of a real estate development escrow account, as well as instructions for data processing and protection, the issuance of a sustainable finance framework, and the issuance of a circular on financial services for customers with disabilities and the elderly, in addition to the issuance of a circular announcing a change in the fifth issue of the Riyal banknotes in accordance with the laws in force in the State of Qatar.The first auction within the distributors framework was successfully executed, resulting in the issuance of government bonds and sukuk denominated in local currency on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, he continued, adding that the second phase of the primary distributors framework was also successfully implemented through secondary market trading and the listing of Ijara sukuk, following the highly successful launch of the first phase in January 2025.As part of the bank's commitment to supporting emerging national companies in the field of financial technology, which contributes to building an advanced digital financial and banking system, QCB continued to grant licenses to financial technology companies to conduct their services. By the end of September 2025, the number of licensed companies in this field reached 14 companies subject to the supervision and control of QCB in the financial technology sector, in addition to granting approval to several companies to join the regulatory sandbox and the accelerated regulatory sandbox, he added.His Excellency also pointed out that, as part of the bank's commitment to providing effective initiatives that utilise modern technologies such as digitalisation and artificial intelligence, QCB has worked to facilitate transactions and bring basic financial services closer to all segments of society, thereby enhancing financial inclusion in the country. For example, the Apple Pay service was launched for 'Himyan' cardholders, in addition to collaborating with Qatar Airways' Privilege Club to provide a more distinctive experience for Himyan cardholders, enabling them to benefit from the club's advantages, such as earning 'Avios' points when using Himyan cards for their daily purchases, he further explained.He noted the continued growth of international reserves and foreign currency liquidity at QCB, which reached approximately QR261.1bn in September 2025, registering a growth rate of 3.1% compared to September 2024.QCB's total official reserves also reached approximately QR201.5bn in September 2025, with a growth rate of 3.7% compared to September 2024, while the total assets of commercial banks reached approximately QR2.15tn in September 2025, representing a growth rate of 6.2% compared to September 2024, he added.He concluded his statements to QNA by emphasising that the bank continues its work in accordance with the strategies and objectives set to enhance the sustainability of the financial sector, increase its resilience, and support stability, thereby contributing to diversification and innovation, supporting financial inclusion, and excellence in banking and financial practices through pioneering future initiatives and projects that will contribute to supporting the digital transformation of the financial sector. 

The Doha Equestrian Tour Organising Committee has unveiled the tour’s official identity and logo, symbolising the 10 rounds that make up this year’s edition and reflecting the event’s deep connection to equestrian heritage and Doha’s growing sporting excellence on the international stage.Speaking on the occasion, Khalifa al-Attiyah, Executive Director of the Doha Equestrian Tour, said the new identity is rooted in a strategic vision aimed at strengthening Qatar’s presence on the global equestrian map.“The Doha Equestrian Tour has consistently enriched the international equestrian calendar with high-quality competitions, reinforcing Qatar’s position as a global sporting capital and a preferred destination for hosting major international championships,” al-Attiyah said.He added that Qatar’s advanced infrastructure, including world-class venues such as Al Shaqab, plays a central role in the continued success of the tour.The Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will feature 10 international championships ranging from one to five star events, running from January 2 to April 4, with a total prize purse exceeding €10mn.The series will open with the HH The Father Amir’s Cup, scheduled from January 2 to 31, comprising four rounds across 1 to 5-star categories. This will be followed by the HH The Amir’s Sword International Equestrian Festival, which runs from February 11 for four days and includes 1, 3 and 5-star competitions, along with dressage events.The sixth stop on the calendar is the Al Shaqab International Show Jumping Championship (CHI), sponsored by Longines, to be held from February 18 to 21. The event will feature show jumping, dressage and para-dressage competitions across 1, 4 and 5-star levels. Next is the Longines Global Champions Tour, scheduled from March 4 to 7, with 1, 3 and 5-star categories.The organising committee also announced the introduction of three new championships for the 2026 edition: the Qatar Olympic Committee Cup, the Al Shaqab Cup and the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup.The Qatar Olympic Committee Cup will serve as the eighth championship, running from March 11 for four days and featuring 1, 2 and 3-star competitions. The Al Shaqab Cup, the ninth event on the tour, will take place from March 26 over three days and will include 1 to 5-star competitions, as well as team events across various categories.The Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will conclude with the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup, scheduled from April 2 to 4, featuring one- to five-star competitions.All competitions of the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will be staged at Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre, one of the region’s leading equestrian venues, renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities built to the highest international standards.

Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education is preparing to launch the national operetta "Qatar Jannah", a production that brings together students from across its schools in a performance celebrating Qatari identity and national pride.Organized as part of the Qatar National Day celebrations, the operetta offers a unified platform where students will present scenes inspired by Qatari heritage, reflecting the sense of unity across the Qatar Foundation (QF) school community.The operetta will be presented on 11 and 13 December, with two shows held each day. Each public show will be preceded by pre-show activities, featuring the traditional Qatari "Ardah" and accompanying entertainment activities delivered by "Siraj," QF's educational edutainment programme, with the beloved characters Rashid and Noora welcoming children and engaging with them.All performances will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre, with the first show being from 3pm-4pm, and the second show from 5pm-6pm.Buthina al-Derham, Director of Communications and Outreach at QF's Pre-University Education, said: "This year's national operetta reflects our vision of creating a shared educational and artistic experience that brings together all QF students under one identity and one spirit.""We are not simply presenting a performance; we are building a platform that connects students with their national values and strengthens their sense of belonging to their country and its leadership," she stressed."What makes this operetta truly special is that it gives students the opportunity to express their love for Qatar through art, whether through singing, movement, or theatrical scenes that highlight the unity of our school community," Al Derham added.Al-Derham explained that the production has been shaped by a strong spirit of collaboration, with QF schools contributing a range of ideas and creative perspectives that reflect their own interpretations of national identity. These contributions were developed and refined into a single script that brings everyone together while preserving the unique character of each school.Azlaa Hamad al-Qahtani, Head of Culture and Identity at QF's Pre-University Education, said: "This approach reflects the commitment of QF's Pre-University Education to shared learning, teamwork, and celebrating diversity within a unified national framework."Al-Qahtani explained that the operetta offers students a holistic learning experience, saying: "Students from different grade levels gain valuable skills, from teamwork, responsibility, and discipline, to building confidence by performing on stage in front of a large audience. They also get the chance to express themselves artistically using the Arabic language, which we are committed to nurturing through our culture and identity programs."Al-Qahtani emphasized that this production is part of QF's commitment to supporting educational arts that blend learning with creativity, in line with its vision of building a society rooted in knowledge, innovation, and identity. She noted that this year's operetta presents an artistic vision that brings together Qatari heritage and contemporary identity."We developed artistic scenes inspired by Qatari heritage and the stories of our ancestors, while incorporating modern elements and technologies to create a blend that truly resonates with students,' al-Qahtani explained."Our goal is to show students that identity is not a distant past, it is something alive in their daily lives. Belonging is not only a feeling; it is a practice reflected in one’s behavior, values, and interactions with others."Al-Qahtani concluded by highlighting the enthusiastic engagement from students and schools, and said: "The strong participation in this year’s operetta reflects how deeply students connect with this initiative. It also reaffirms the power of the arts in strengthening national awareness and pride.
