Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed food baskets to vulnerable families in Tanzania’s Pwani Region, providing essential food assistance to 1,127 people as part of its continued humanitarian efforts to support communities facing difficult living conditions. Implemented by the QC’s office in Tanzania, the project provided 161 food baskets to families identified as being among the most in need. The assistance was designed to help households meet essential food requirements while easing some of the financial pressures affecting low-income families, orphans, and other vulnerable groups. Amjad al-Tahhan, the director of the Qatar Charity office in Tanzania, said the food assistance provided in Pwani forms part of the QC’s broader humanitarian efforts to stand alongside vulnerable communities and respond to their most pressing needs. “Meeting the needs of vulnerable people cannot be limited to a single project or temporary intervention,” he said, emphasising that such initiatives form part of a broader and sustained humanitarian approach aimed at supporting communities according to their priorities and needs.**media[477972]**Al-Tahhan noted that Pwani is among the areas experiencing the effects of climate change-related challenges, which have placed additional pressure on people’s livelihoods and living conditions. The food distribution project, he added, therefore represents one of Qatar Charity’s efforts to help alleviate these pressures and provide timely support to affected families. Al-Tahhan said that the initiative is not intended as a one-off intervention, but rather as part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing humanitarian engagement in support of vulnerable communities, guided by needs identified through field assessments. The food baskets contained a range of staple items commonly required by families for their daily nutritional needs. By providing these essential supplies, the project helped families cover part of their immediate food needs and reduce household expenditure on basic commodities. The initiative was implemented through close co-ordination with the local community, helping ensure that assistance reached those most in need. Beyond addressing immediate food needs, the intervention helped ease household financial pressures and promoted solidarity, compassion, and social responsibility. Beneficiary families expressed their appreciation to Qatar Charity and its donors for the assistance, noting that the food baskets provided meaningful support at a time when meeting basic household needs remains a significant challenge. 

Qatar and Turkiye continue to deepen their strategic partnership through close co-operation in diplomacy, defence, humanitarian assistance and regional mediation, Turkish ambassador to Qatar Dr Mustafa Goksu has said, highlighting the two countries’ enduring solidarity during times of crisis. Speaking at the Turkish embassy in Doha during a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the July 15, 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkiye, the envoy paid particular tribute to Qatar’s steadfast support during and after the attempted coup, describing it as a defining moment in the longstanding brotherhood between the two nations. Dr Goksu recalled that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani was the first foreign leader to telephone Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the night of the coup attempt. He also noted that His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani was among the first senior foreign officials to visit Turkiye following the crisis. The envoy added that Qatar subsequently worked closely with Turkiye in combating the Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation (FETO), a stance that Ankara regards as a significant demonstration of solidarity and mutual trust.According to Dr Goksu, the relationship has continued to strengthen through successive regional and global challenges. He cited the two countries’ mutual support during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and Qatar’s assistance following the devastating earthquakes that struck southern Turkiye in February 2023. He said bilateral defence co-operation has also expanded significantly.Joint activities under the Qatar-Turkiye Joint Combined Command Forces, including air and naval operations, have enhanced Qatar’s defence capabilities, while co-operation on Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets reflects the growing depth of military ties. The envoy attributed much of the partnership’s institutional strength to the Qatar-Turkiye Supreme Strategic Committee, established in 2014, which meets annually and has facilitated the signing of 125 bilateral agreements. He also highlighted a recent agreement to jointly develop and launch a satellite, saying it demonstrates how co-operation is expanding into advanced technology and the space sector. Dr Goksu also lauded Qatar’s growing role as a regional mediator, describing it as one of the pillars of the bilateral relationship.He said the two countries have worked closely with regional and international partners to reduce tensions, secure ceasefires and promote regional stability. He pointed to their co-ordination during the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, saying Qatar and Turkiye played an important role in efforts that contributed to a ceasefire. He also commended Qatar’s long-standing mediation experience and principled diplomacy in creating conditions conducive to dialogue. The envoy said the two countries continue to adopt complementary approaches to major regional issues, including Gaza, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Afghanistan, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Yemen. On Gaza, he praised Qatar’s mediation efforts under the leadership of His Highness the Amir, as well as its sustained humanitarian and financial support for the Palestinian people and efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire. Dr Goksu also underlined the Development Road project involving Turkiye, Qatar, Iraq and the UAE, describing it as an important initiative to strengthen regional transport connectivity and economic integration. He noted that forums, such as the Doha Forum and the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, continue to provide valuable platforms for dialogue and policy co-ordination on regional and international issues. Concluding his remarks, the envoy said Turkiye remains committed to advancing its development while working with partners such as Qatar to promote peace, stability and prosperity across the region.

Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a framework co-operation agreement with Ibn Sina University Hospital Centre in Morocco to support life-saving treatment for children with congenital heart defects, expanding their access to specialised medical care that can improve their health and long-term quality of life.The agreement reflects the QC’s strategic approach, implemented through its office in Morocco, to building effective institutional partnerships that create sustainable humanitarian impact beyond immediate assistance.The organisation aims to develop co-operation models grounded in integration, knowledge exchange, and efficient resource use to better serve vulnerable communities.As one of Morocco’s leading university healthcare institutions, Ibn Sina University Hospital Centre has specialised expertise and advanced capabilities in treating complex medical cases, making the partnership a crucial step in strengthening paediatric cardiac care services.Under the agreement, support will focus on interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures for children with congenital heart defects, a highly specialised area of medicine.This advanced technique can treat certain heart defects without open-heart surgery, reducing surgical risks, accelerating recovery, and improving children’s long-term quality of life.These procedures require advanced equipment and specialised expertise, making them costly and often beyond the reach of low-income families.The partnership therefore carries significant humanitarian value by helping ease this burden for families in need.The agreement is expected to enable children from underprivileged families to receive high-quality cardiac catheterisation services, strengthen Ibn Sina University Hospital Centre’s capacity to manage complex cases, and provide a practical model of co-operation between healthcare institutions and humanitarian organisations.Professor Raouf Mohsen, director of Ibn Sina University Hospital Centre, praised the initiative as valuable support for Morocco’s national healthcare system.Eng. Mohammed Abu Halloub, director of Qatar Charity’s office in Morocco, said that the agreement reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting child health in Morocco and expanding co-operation with national healthcare institutions. 

 Qatar has launched a large-scale humanitarian airlift to Venezuela following two earthquakes that recently struck the country’s capital, Caracas, reaffirming the Gulf state’s longstanding commitment to supporting friendly nations during times of crisis.Qatar was among the first countries to respond to the disaster, rapidly mobilising relief assistance under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.In the immediate aftermath of the earthquakes, the Amir held a telephone conversation with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, expressing Qatar’s solidarity with Venezuela and its people following the earthquakes that affected several parts of the country.During the call, the Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to provide all necessary assistance to support relief and rescue operations and help mitigate the impact of the disaster.Meanwhile, Rodriguez thanked the Amir for Qatar’s support and solidarity, describing the response as a reflection of the close friendship and co-operation between the two countries.Acting on the Amir’s directives, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in co-operation with the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), launched a humanitarian air bridge consisting of six aircraft carrying emergency assistance to Venezuela.The aid includes family tents, field hospitals and emergency shelter supplies intended to support displaced families, provide temporary accommodation and meet urgent humanitarian needs following the earthquakes.The government said that the operation reflects Qatar’s continued commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by crises and natural disasters and contributing to international emergency relief efforts.The QRCS has also joined the emergency operation in co-ordination with Qatari authorities and international partners within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.Its Information Management Centre activated emergency procedures immediately after reports emerged of the two earthquakes affecting northwestern and central Venezuela.The organisation established communication channels with the Venezuelan Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to monitor humanitarian developments and co-ordinate the response.The QRCS said humanitarian aid shipments, along with medical and relief teams deployed to Venezuela, continue to arrive as part of the Qatari humanitarian air bridge.Qatar’s ambassador to Venezuela Salman bin Nabit al-Khulaifi said the initiative demonstrates Qatar’s leading humanitarian role and its continued commitment to assisting countries in need.A team from the Syrian Civil Defence, along with a number of volunteers from the Qatar Volunteer Centre, also participated in search and rescue operations as part of the air bridge operated by Qatar.The participation of the Syrian team came as part of the mission led by the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group, extending the existing co-operation between the two sides in the fields of search and rescue and disaster response.The QRCS also launched an urgent humanitarian campaign to mobilise the necessary community support to assist those affected by the disaster.Meanwhile, the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group, affiliated with the Internal Security Force Lekhwiya, successfully rescued a girl alive from beneath the rubble of a collapsed building in Venezuela, eight days after the earthquake.President Rodriguez awarded the “Heroes of Venezuela” medal to the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) in recognition of their efforts during rescue and relief operations.The honour crowns the achievements of the Qatari team in relief missions, as it demonstrated a high level of professional competence, rapid response and commitment to humanitarian duty, providing a model of international co-operation in confronting disasters, reducing their impact and alleviating the suffering of those affected.Official reports in Caracas said the death toll from the double earthquake had risen to more than 3,600, while the number of injured exceeded 16,700.Relief teams confirmed that 6,462 people had been rescued alive in affected areas. – QNA 

Qatar Charity (QC), through its Burkina Faso Branch, has implemented a series of projects and activities across several regions of the country, as part of its ongoing humanitarian and development efforts. The initiatives included the implementation of 28 development projects, alongside participation in key national activities, highlighting the vital role played by Qatar Charity in supporting sustainable development efforts and strengthening cooperation with government institutions and development partners. The projects included the inauguration of four mosques in several areas. Each mosque comprises a 70sq m prayer hall, four sanitation units, and ablution facilities, providing suitable spaces for worship and serving the needs of local communities. Qatar Charity also inaugurated two Quran Memorisation Centres in two different areas. Each centre covers an area of 306sq m and consists of classrooms, a boarding facility, a dining hall, a kitchen, and other integrated service facilities, helping enhance educational opportunities for younger generations. In the water sector, the QC inaugurated 30m-deep wells in in various locations, improving access to clean water and reducing the burden on residents. As part of its economic empowerment efforts, the QC handed over 20 shops to low-income families, enabling beneficiaries to establish sustainable sources of income and improve their living conditions. These initiatives align closely with Burkina Faso’s National Sustainable Development Strategy, focusing on education, water, and sanitation. The beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the improvements in their lives, saying that these projects contributed to meeting basic needs, enhancing educational opportunities, and promoting Islamic values. Local officials lauded the efforts and their positive impact, stressing the need for ongoing cooperation to drive comprehensive, long-term development. 

Qatar has dispatched a search-and-rescue team and an air bridge of humanitarian aid to Venezuela, joining a sprawling international effort to pull survivors from the rubble of twin earthquakes that have killed hundreds and left tens of thousands missing. The Qatari International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) has arrived in the country to join international teams working in areas devastated by the two quakes that struck near the capital, Caracas. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, hit north-central Venezuela on June 24 less than a minute apart, followed by more than 30 aftershocks — among the strongest to strike the country in over a century. Government officials put the death toll at more than 900, with over 3,360 injured, and tens of thousands still unaccounted for as rescuers race against time. The worst destruction is centred on La Guaira, the port city that serves as the main gateway to the capital, where dozens of buildings collapsed. The Qatari personnel include certified specialists in Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), backed by advanced technical equipment to handle collapsed buildings and locate the missing, alongside medical teams and equipped field hospitals to provide urgent care for the wounded. In parallel, Qatari humanitarian aid and relief have arrived in Venezuela via an air bridge operated by Qatar. The consignment — provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) — included food, medicines, medical essentials and advanced shelter materials, in support of the humanitarian response and to ease the suffering of those affected. Qatar's deployment forms part of a wider international mobilisation. Several countries with earthquake-response experience, including Mexico, Chile and El Salvador, have sent emergency teams and medical supplies, while the United States pledged $150mn in aid and dispatched urban search and rescue teams from Virginia and California. Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has declared a nationwide state of emergency and urged medical staff to report for duty as hospitals struggle with rising casualties. The move is an extension of Qatar's humanitarian approach in helping brotherly and friendly nations, in support of international efforts to respond swiftly to humanitarian disasters and crises.

Qatar expressed deep concern over the findings of the United Nations Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict, which indicated that violations committed against children in conflict zones have reached unprecedented levels, including killing and maiming, attacks on schools and hospitals, and the denial of humanitarian access.  This came in a statement delivered by Her Excellency the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, during the UN Security Council open debate on children and armed conflict on “Reasserting international legal protections for children in armed conflict: strengthening the protection of education and the prevention of grave violations”, held at United Nations headquarters in New York.  She stressed that Qatar strongly condemns the grave violations committed against children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory by the Israeli occupation, including the widespread use of explosive weapons in populated areas and the ongoing violations in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in high numbers of children killed and maimed, as well as attacks on schools and hospitals documented in the UN Secretary-General’s report.  HE Sheikha Alya also expressed Qatar’s deep concern regarding the report’s findings on the significant increase in attacks carried out by Israeli settlers and the resulting grave violations against Palestinian children.  She praised the pivotal role played by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict in protecting children in conflict areas, reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to continuing its support and strengthening its fruitful strategic partnership with the office.  HE Sheikha Alya noted that Qatar hosts the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, which continues to play a vital role in supporting international efforts aimed at protecting children affected by armed conflicts, and affirmed that Qatar places the promotion and protection of children’s right to education, particularly in conflict-affected countries, among its key priorities.  She noted that this is clearly reflected in the leading role played by Her Highness the Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, pointing out that Her Highness is among the most influential and prominent figures supporting and protecting quality education at the international level, while the foundation’s initiatives have made a tangible and significant difference in the lives of millions of children around the world.  HE Sheikha Alya also noted Qatar’s anticipation of marking this year the seventh anniversary of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, which was established through a resolution submitted by Qatar to the United Nations General Assembly.  She added that Doha will host an international event on September 9 on “Can Education Survive Attack The Resilience of Human Communities”, aimed at strengthening international efforts to protect education from attacks in conflict areas.

More than 100 players joined “Hoop4Hope 2.0” in Doha, using basketball to raise donations for Sudan and show how youth-led sport can support humanitarian causes while uniting Qatar’s community. The charity event, hosted by Fame Sports Academy and initiated by Doha Youth Network, saw more than 100 male and female players take part in 3x3 basketball matches over more than four hours, combining competition, awareness and humanitarian support.**media[460358]**The initiative followed the success of the first Hoop4Hope event, which was dedicated to supporting Gaza. This second edition shifted its focus to Sudan, reflecting the organisers’ aim to use sport to mobilise youth around urgent humanitarian causes. “The idea for Hoop4Hope 2.0 was inspired by Doha Youth Network after the success of the first version that was dedicated to support Gaza,” said Sarah Faris Tarlochan, co-founder of Doha Youth Network. “This time, it’s all about supporting Sudan.” She said the event brought “youth from all over Doha to play, compete and donate in a lively and enjoyable atmosphere”, with support from Fame Sports Academy and several Qatari brands, including Alkalive Water. The event also created space for participants to learn more about Sudan and show solidarity with those affected by the ongoing humanitarian situation. Tarlochan said the response from the community had been encouraging, with players, spectators and sponsors coming together for a shared cause. “We are truly happy for the success of the event and managed to collect a good amount of donations to support Sudan,” she said. “Thank you, Fame, for hosting the event and all sponsors, and most importantly the community that came and attended the event.” For Fame Sports Academy, the initiative highlighted how sport can go beyond training and competition to become a tool for social responsibility. “Fame Academy is more than just basketball,” said Eng. Ahmed Hamouda, general manager of Fame Sports Academy. “We are happy and proud to support Doha Youth Network and any other youth doing things for a good cause for our brothers and sisters all over the world.” He added that the participants came not only to compete, but also “to have fun and show support”. The event also reflected Qatar’s wider culture of community engagement, where youth groups, sports platforms and local sponsors continue to collaborate on initiatives that link recreation with humanitarian action. Organisers hope Hoop4Hope will encourage more young people to see sport as a meaningful way to give back, build awareness and stand with communities in need. 

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a major humanitarian campaign titled “Every Refugee Tent Holds a Story” to mark World Refugee Day, which is observed annually on June 20. The initiative aims to shed light on the harsh realities faced by displaced populations worldwide, amplify their hopes for a better future, and deliver integrated relief and development aid to the most vulnerable communities. Aligning with global efforts to protect displaced people, the campaign focuses on safeguarding refugee rights and easing their daily hardships. By securing vital food, water, shelter, and medical care, the initiative works to restore basic living standards. Through this targeted push, the QC is mobilising both public and institutional support to ensure refugee families can rebuild their lives in safety, stability, and dignity. With the support of donors, the campaign targets refugees from several countries, including Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Myanmar (Rohingya refugees), Syria, and Palestine. These populations are hosted across several countries such as Pakistan, Ethiopia, Chad, Egypt, Kenya, Djibouti, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkiye, and Lebanon. The campaign focuses on a wide range of humanitarian interventions. These include the provision of food, clean water, and sanitation services, as well as shelter support and non-food items. It also covers healthcare services, access to education for children, and programmes that strengthen refugees’ resilience and ability to cope with displacement conditions. These efforts aim to improve living conditions and help restore stability in their daily lives. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, the executive director of communications and community impact at the QC, urged donors and the public to support the cause. He noted that the suffering of refugees is a daily reality for families who have lost everything, adding that every donation brings hope and warmth back to camps exhausted by waiting. Refugee aid is a major part of the QC’s interventions. In 2025, the organisation spent QR645mn on relief projects, helping 10mn people globally. The largest portion of this aid went to urgent humanitarian situations in Palestine (including Gaza), Syria, and Sudan. Donors can contribute to the campaign through multiple convenient channels. Options include using the QC’s website or mobile app, calling the hotline at 44290000, or requesting a “Home Collector” through the application. Donations are also accepted in person at Qatar Charity branches and collection booths inside local shopping malls.

A joint ministerial delegation from Qatar, the United Kingdom and France visited a number of collective shelters in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Thursday to assess humanitarian conditions and the needs of displaced communities. The delegation included Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation of the State of Qatar Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad; Baroness Chapman of Darlington, Minister of State (International Development and Africa) of the United Kingdom; and Eleonore Caroit, Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic. During the visit, the ministers received detailed briefings on urgent humanitarian and medical requirements facing people housed in the shelters.
