His Excellency Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi affirmed that the State of Qatar, under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has managed the current crisis with utmost efficiency, competence, awareness, and transparency, particularly given the exceptional circumstances the region is experiencing marked by rapid developments and changes.In an interview with Qatar Television, His Excellency emphasized that the decisions taken by the government, whether in the current phase or at other times, are not merely immediate responses to current circumstances but rather an extension of a well-established approach developed in previous periods.HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs stated that the State of Qatar has approved plans to ensure business continuity and adopted plans for crisis management, enabling it to address various circumstances as they arise, in a way ensuring that appropriate decisions are made at the right time within an integrated system characterized by both the firmness in implementing decisions and the flexibility to respond to the realities on the ground.He pointed out that decisions are always monitored for implementation, evaluated for effectiveness, and assessed for the achievement of the desired goals as well as when needed for continuation or modification based on evolving realities and fundamental criteria, most importantly the safety and security of all, family cohesion as a national pillar, and the continued provision of government services and the regular operation of government facilities.His Excellency emphasized that the Cabinet is giving special attention to ensuring the continuity of work in vital sectors, particularly health, education, energy, and transportation, to guarantee the uninterrupted provision of these key services and the continued smooth operation of government facilities.He also affirmed that work is simultaneously underway to improve the efficiency of government services and enhance the use of digital infrastructure to provide better and more accessible services.During the interview, His Excellency discussed the most important decisions taken by the government in light of the current crisis regarding work and education. These included initially adopting a remote work system, followed by a return to 100% in-person work at workplaces, as well as distance learning at the beginning of the crisis, with students returning to in-person learning starting, Sunday.In this context, HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs stated that the initial transition to remote work was part of the government's work models, a pre-established model designed for implementation in any situation. He noted that the remote work model was partially implemented at the beginning of Ramadan.His Excellency affirmed that the period during which the remote work model was implemented, whether at the beginning of Ramadan or during the current crisis, did not affect work requirements or the continuity of government performance. The model was carefully designed to suit any phase of its implementation without compromising performance and productivity requirements in either the public or private sector.He emphasized that all government entities currently have the institutional flexibility that enables them to provide their services and perform their duties under various circumstances. This has been proven in practice, as the remote work system did not negatively impact professional performance. On the contrary, all government entities continued to operate diligently, with commitment and a sense of national responsibility, he noted, adding this also demonstrates the efficiency of the government system in dealing with diverse situations.HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs pointed out that decisions regarding the selection of the appropriate work model and the transition from one phase to another are not made impulsively or on the spur of the moment, but rather according to pre-established methodologies within the framework of business continuity, crisis management, and emergency response. These methods are implemented in a manner appropriate to each phase based on assessments of the situation by the relevant authorities.  HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi said the decision to return to in-person work at a rate of 30 percent during this crisis followed a situation assessment, particularly by security authorities, which concluded that risks had subsided and that the security situation was stable enough to allow a partial return to the workplace.His Excellency added that this decision reflects governmental entities' ability to transition from managing an exceptional situation to returning to normality gradually and in a well-planned manner, noting that the decision aimed to prepare government entities for a structured and gradual transition back to normal operations, ensuring that productivity is maintained at the same efficiency levels and that the transition does not affect the quality of outputs, while also maintaining the safety of employees and everyone involved.During the remote work arrangement, productivity in both the public and private sectors was not affected, thanks to pre-established policies, work models designed to suit different stages, and flexible measures that ensure the ability to deal with various circumstances, he affirmed.HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs pointed out that the gradual return to in-person work was based on several considerations, most importantly ensuring employee safety and the ability to respond to different security conditions and any developments that may arise at any time.He noted that the transition has now naturally moved from exceptional circumstances to normality, meaning a full return to the standard work model at 100 percent. This decision, His Excellency said, was carefully considered, but like all decisions, it remains subject to continuous evaluation based on evolving circumstances, with the possibility of shifting between phases as needed.HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs went over the capabilities that enabled government entities to perform their work with flexibility and efficiency, saying that Qatar invested in digital infrastructure early on, allowing institutions to benefit from accumulated experience, thus, allowing all government entities, both during the current situation and previous ones, to continue to fully provide their services through electronic platforms that are accessible to all segments of society with ease, supported by a strong digital infrastructure.These capabilities are not the result of a temporary adaptation to recent circumstances, but rather the outcome of long-term investment that began early and is now being fully utilized, His Excellency said, adding that all government entities adopt a digital government model, something that has positively impacted the continuous and uninterrupted delivery of services to citizens, residents, individuals, and companies.He noted that all government entities continued to provide advanced digital services, including, the Ministry of Interior's Metrash application, for example, which offers more than 480 services, in addition to the Ministries of Municipality, and Commerce and Industry, along with electricity and water, security, and judicial and legal services, as well as those of the Single Window, among others.Following the Civil Defence Council's evaluation, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology decided at the beginning of the crisis to shift to remote learning, based on the principle of a shared responsibility for the safety and security of students and educational staff, HE the Minister said, for which digital educational platforms were made ready to ensure the continuity of the educational process.Similarly, the decision to return to in-person learning, on the other hand, was subject to continuous evaluation, he continued, saying that once it was confirmed that schools across the country are safety and ready to receive students, the decision was approved, with in-person schooling starting tomorrow, Sunday.As for national priorities over the coming period, HE the Minister said that they are dictated by the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, which focus on achieving a sustainable economic growth of 4 percent annually, economic diversification, and strengthening food security, among other key pillars.When it comes to decision-making during the current crisis, His Excellency highlighted that the Civil Defence Council serves as the central body managing the crisis internally, with decisions being evaluated by security, military, and civilian entities before being submitted to the Cabinet for approval and implementation.HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs praised state institutions' high level of readiness in dealing with the crisis, including the Qatar Armed Forces and security agencies, which are making significant efforts to maintain security and stability.HE the Minister concluded his remarks by commending the community's awareness and adherence to official instructions, noting that this is not surprising for the people of Qatar.  

Qatar has taken part in the 49th session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome. Qatar was represented at the meetings by Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad. In her address, she stated that this year’s meetings, under the theme From Farm to Market: Investing with Young Entrepreneurs, reflect a fundamental truth that the future of food security depends on empowering young people in rural communities to be producers, innovators, and leaders of change in food systems. Highlighting that Qatar has been a member of the IFAD since the late 1970s, driven by its belief in the importance of agricultural development and rural transformation, HE Dr al-Misnad expressed the country’s pride in the institutional maturity that the IFAD has achieved and its tangible ability to improve the lives of small producers and rural communities, in line with the vision of the wise leadership that places people at the heart of development efforts. She emphasised that Qatar has made food security a national priority and a key pillar of its international co-operation. Through its partnerships and development programmes, it continues to support the building of more resilient food systems, enhance local production, and assist communities in facing climate and economic challenges in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. Noting that the meetings were being held amidst increasing global challenges, including resource scarcity, climate change, and supply chain disruptions, the minister said that these challenges simultaneously present a real opportunity to unleash the potential of young people in rural areas, empowering them to become entrepreneurs and innovators in the agriculture and food sector. Out of this conviction, HE Dr al-Misnad said, Qatar’s partnership with the IFAD focuses on three main pillars: strengthening resilient food systems, enabling young entrepreneurs to transition from farm to market, and accelerating innovation and digital transformation in the agricultural sector. She added that Qatar views the IFAD as a key partner in translating international commitments into tangible impact on the ground, noting that the shared mission is clear: to empower rural families, support youth, and build more resilient and equitable food systems. The minister emphasised that investing in productive youth is an investment in the future of all humanity, and that Qatar will continue to work with the IFAD and all partners to ensure that rural youth have the opportunities that enable them to be active participants and leaders in global food systems.  

Under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau organised the second edition of the Qatar Government Excellence Award ceremony to honour the winning ministries and government agencies, and to celebrate the tangible progress they have made in the level of institutional performance and the quality of government services.The 2nd Qatar Government Excellence Award included seven categories, distributed across four main awards and three specialised sub-awards. The participating ministries and government entities were distributed into competitive groups according to the criteria of the Qatar Government Excellence Model.The Qatar Government Excellence Award was launched based on Amiri Decision No. 63 of 2023, with the aim of raising the level of quality of government performance and encouraging government agencies and employees to compete in applying quality, development, and excellence in performance, by honouring the outstanding achievements and efforts of all categories contributing to the realisation of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to transform Qatar into an advanced country capable of achieving sustainable development, and ensuring the continuation of a decent life for all the generations of its people.  

Under the Chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Qatar Media Corporation participates in the Saudi Media Forum Qatar Media Corporation recently participated in the Saudi Media Forum, held under the theme “Media in an evolving World”, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.  The forum brought together more than 300 prominent media professionals, experts, academics, and specialists from the region and around the world, who engaged in over 150 dialogue sessions addressing key challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the media industry at local, regional, and international levels. The participation came within the framework of strengthening regional media cooperation and exchanging expertise among Arab media institutions. The delegation of Qatar Media Corporation was headed by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Media Advisor, and included Mr Ahmed Abdullah Al Attiya, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department; Dr. Mishal Rady Al Hajri, Media Advisor at the Office of the CEO; Mr Faisal Abdulhamid Al Mudhahka, Editor-in-Chief of The Gulf Times; media professional Mr. Khalid Jassim, presenter on Alkass Channels; veteran media figure Mr Abdulaziz Al Sayed; Mr Hassan Ghanem Al Hammadi, Director of News at Qatar Television; and Mr Jaber Al Suroor, Supervisor of General Programming at Qatar Radio. HE Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani affirmed that Qatar Media Corporation’s participation reflects its firm belief in the importance of Arab media integration and the strengthening of professional partnerships that serve a purposeful and responsible media message. He emphasized that such forums provide vital platforms for exchanging perspectives, sharing expertise, and keeping pace with rapid developments in the media sector.His Excellency also commended the excellent organization, generous hospitality, and warm reception extended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.He highlighted the importance of the discussions held during the forum sessions in contributing to the development of a clear roadmap for purposeful media work - one that reflects the aspirations of societies and aligns with the objectives of media institutions and professionals. Sheikh Hamad expressed his appreciation for the remarkable development witnessed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s media sector and the notable progress achieved, which has strengthened its presence in discussions related to the future of media, particularly in light of the artificial intelligence revolution and the growing influence of independent platforms and content creators. He also praised the innovative ideas and media initiatives observed during the visit, which reflect the vitality of the Saudi media landscape and the prominent role of young talents in its development. He underscored the leadership’s commitment to establishing a modern, aware media environment capable of showcasing national achievements and conveying the Kingdom’s image to the world. His Excellency pointed to the importance of this media momentum in keeping pace with major upcoming events that the Kingdom is preparing to host, most notably the 2034 FIFA World Cup and the Asian Games. He expressed hope that the outcomes of the forum would contribute to strengthening frameworks of joint media cooperation in the coming phase. In concluding his remarks, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani expressed his appreciation for the outstanding organization of the Saudi Media Forum, affirming the State of Qatar’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia across various media fields, including expertise exchange and training, in a manner that reflects the strength of brotherly relations and strategic partnership between the two countries. During the delegation’s visit to the Saudi Ministry of Media, Mr. Abdulrahman Al Majrashi, Head of the Government Communication Center, delivered a presentation outlining the ministry’s efforts to unify government media messages, enhance coordination among entities, and activate effective communication between media professionals and communication officials across government agencies.He also reviewed several initiatives aimed at developing the Kingdom’s media landscape through qualification and training programs, as well as the launch of new media initiatives. He welcomed H.E. Sheikh Hamad’s proposal to strengthen cooperation in training and preparing qualified media professionals. The delegation also visited the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), where they received a briefing from HE Mr Hassan bin Mohammed Al Asmari, President of SPA, on the agency’s organizational structure, operational mechanisms, and ongoing development efforts to enhance performance. He highlighted SPA’s achievements in training, scholarships, multilingual broadcasting, and its commitment to credibility and professionalism, expressing hope for expanded cooperation and coordination between the two sides. Additionally, the delegation, headed by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, visited the headquarters of the Saudi Research and Media Group, where they toured its various departments and reviewed its publications and efforts to transform media work into a sustainable, economically viable investment while maintaining high professional standards and competitiveness. During the meeting, Ms Jomana Al Rashid highlighted the group’s strategies to keep pace with rapid global changes in the media industry, including digital transformation, modern news writing techniques, and multi-platform content creation. She emphasized the group’s focus on engaging younger audiences to prepare future media leaders, noting that these initiatives have significantly increased viewership, expanded audience reach, and generated substantial financial returns. The three-day visit programme also included tours of Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels, as well as MBC and Asharq channels. On the sidelines of the visit, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani held a series of productive meetings with Mr. Mohammed Al Harthi, Chairman of the Saudi Media Forum; Mr Abdulrahman Abu Malih, CEO of the Thmanyah Platform; Mr Zaid bin Kumi, Deputy General Manager of Al Arabiya and Al Hadath; Mr Faisal Abbas, Editor-in-Chief of Arab News; and Ms. Israa Asiri, Supervisor General of the Executive Office of the Saudi Minister of Media and Supervisor of the Media Sector Development Agency.These meetings reviewed Saudi experiences in media operations, training, development, hosting media events, and preparing future media leaders. Discussions also focused on enhancing future cooperation and coordination between Qatar Media Corporation and these entities in a manner that serves the shared objectives of both countries. The participation of Qatar Media Corporation’s delegation further included several field visits and meetings, during which the Qatari side observed the significant development of the media sector in the Kingdom and explored opportunities for cooperation, expertise exchange, and training with a number of government bodies and media institutions. 

The Permanent Mission of Qatar to the UN, in co-operation with the Permanent Mission of France, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), organised a high-level side event on the margins of the 64th session of the UN Commission for Social Development, entitled “Delivering on the Doha Promise: Promoting Innovative Solutions for Social Development”, in New York. The event was attended by Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi, Her Excellency Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, and Anousheh Karvar, representative of the government of France to the ILO and chairperson of the ILO governing body. The high-level meeting, held at the UN headquarters in New York, brought together senior ministers and top UN officials, including Minister of Social Affairs and Health of Finland Kaisa Juuso, Minister of Social Services of Sweden Camilla Waltersson Gronvall, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus Marinos Moushouttas, Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator of the UN Development Programme Marcos Athias Neto, ILO Special Representative and Director of the ILO Office at the UN Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, and Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Co-ordination at UNDESA Bjorg Sandkjaer. In her opening remarks, HE the Minister of Social Development and Family underscored the strategic importance of the event, noting that it was convened at a critical juncture, only months after the Second World Summit for Social Development — a landmark milestone marked by renewed international resolve, revitalised multilateral co-operation, and a shared commitment to transformative social progress. Her Excellency highlighted the consensus adoption of the Doha Political Declaration, emphasising that it embodies concrete commitments and forward-looking measures aimed at promoting innovative solutions, strengthening comprehensive international co-operation, and advancing integrated, people-centred policies to achieve social development for all, in line with the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action. She further drew attention to the Doha Solutions Platform for Social Development, describing it as a comprehensive, results-oriented mechanism designed to showcase practical and scalable policies with measurable impact in the areas of poverty eradication, decent work, and social inclusion. Her Excellency stressed that the platform serves as a practical instrument for monitoring commitments, fostering mutual learning, and sustaining post-summit momentum. She affirmed that the current session of the Commission for Social Development represents a pivotal opportunity to move decisively from diagnosing challenges to implementing proven solutions, underscoring that delivering on the Doha Promise constitutes the true benchmark of the international community’s success in achieving inclusive and sustainable social development through strengthened partnerships and collective action. During the discussions, representatives of governments and UN entities examined concrete pathways to advance innovative and actionable solutions for inclusive social development, building on the momentum generated by the Second World Summit for Social Development and the Doha Political Declaration, while exploring enhanced co-operation among stakeholders to address pressing global social and development challenges. 

His Excellency the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi Wednesday stressed the importance of the “Art Basel Qatar” exhibition in highlighting Qatar’s cultural scene and confirming the progress and cultural and civilisational development achieved by the country. This came during His Excellency’s visit to the exhibition, where he viewed a number of sculptures, paintings and rich art pieces by artists participating in the exhibition. Art Basel Qatar is being held at Qatar’s epicentre for innovation and entrepreneurship in design, fashion and tech, M7.  

Qatar participated in the opening session of the 64th session of the UN Commission for Social Development. Qatar was represented at the meeting by Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi. In her address, Her Excellency explained that the session was being held just a few months after the Second World Summit for Social Development, which was hosted by Qatar in November 2025, QNA reported from New York. She emphasised that the country has solidified its position as a leading global destination for dialogue and international co-operation. Al-Nuaimi noted that the Summit achieved great success and positive global feedback, and that the Doha Political Declaration served as an important roadmap for translating ambitious commitments into practical actions to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. She also pointed to Qatar’s continued notable progress across all pillars of its National Vision, particularly in the field of social development, where the family is placed at the heart of social policies, alongside efforts to empower women, enhance the role of youth, and support persons with disabilities and the elderly. Her Excellency highlighted the launch of the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s National Strategy for the period 2025-2030, under the theme: “From Care to Empowerment,” which aims to enhance community participation and expand social protection. She reviewed achievements related to women’s empowerment, including the 2025 amendments to the Civil Human Resources Law, which expanded leave entitlements and supported work-family balance, leading to an increase in women’s participation in the workforce to more than 63%, in addition to their leadership roles in higher education institutions. Underscoring the importance of empowering youth, HE al-Nuaimi noted the issuance of Law No. (22) of 2025 on the rights of persons with disabilities and the State’s commitment to international standards in this field. She also announced the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work, which recognises impactful initiatives. She concluded her address by reaffirming Qatar’s continued support for the Palestinian cause. 

The Lebanese Army Thursday received 37 vehicles from Qatar, delivered through the Qatar Fund for Development as part of a 162-vehicle grant to bolster operational capacity. “This support reflects Qatar’s steadfast commitment to Lebanon’s security and stability,” said His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman al‑Thani, Qatar’s ambassador to Lebanon. Brigadier General Amin al-Qaai, representing the Lebanese Army Commander, thanked Qatar for “its continued and sincere support to the Lebanese military institution.” 

Under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar announced the provision of development and humanitarian support to Lebanon, totalling $434,248,000, benefiting more than 1.5mn people through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and in co-ordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities.The support includes a contribution of up to $400mn to support the energy sector, of which 10% has been allocated as a grant.It further extends to several vital sectors, including education through the provision of scholarships, strengthening the capacities of the Lebanese Armed Forces through the provision of vehicles and equipment, in addition to supporting the sports sector, contributing to youth empowerment.Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad, who is also the and Vice Chairperson of the QFFD Board of Directors, stated: “This support reflects Qatar’s commitment to standing in solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people and supporting their resilience, while fulfilling its humanitarian and development responsibilities toward brotherly nations and reinforcing the foundations of stability, peace and sustainable development.” 

The population of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is projected to rise from around 61.5mn in 2024 to approximately 83.6mn by 2050, marking an increase of more than 22mn people over the next quarter century, according to the latest Population Indicators Report issued by the Gulf Statistical Center (GCC-STAT). The Muscat-based centre said population growth across the region is expected to continue steadily between 2025 and 2050, driven by economic expansion, labour demand and demographic dynamics. The report also anticipates a gradual shift in population structure, with the number of people aged 65 and above projected to more than double, exceeding 5.5mn by mid-century. By the end of 2024, the GCC’s total population had grown by 8.5mn compared with 2019, translating into an average annual growth rate of 2.8%, nearly three times the global average. This underscores the sustained pace of demographic expansion in the Gulf region. Within this broader GCC framework, Qatar continues to reflect many of the demographic characteristics highlighted in the report, including a strong working-age base and high levels of urbanisation. Qatar’s population is currently estimated at just over 3.1mn, with long-term projections indicating continued steady growth in line with economic activity and labour-market demand. The country’s demographic profile is marked by a dominant working-age population, which constitutes the large majority of residents, supporting Qatar’s position as a dynamic labour market in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, services, logistics and healthcare. The GCC-STAT report shows that region-wide, the working-age population (15–64 years) accounts for 76.7% of total population, while children aged 0–14 represent 20.6%, and the elderly population 2.6%. This results in a total dependency ratio of around 30 dependents per 100 working-age individuals, a structure that continues to shape economic and social planning across the region. A key long-term trend identified in the report is population ageing. Across the GCC, the number of elderly people (65+) is expected to more than double by 2050. While this group currently represents a small share of the population, rising life expectancy and improved healthcare outcomes are contributing to a gradual demographic transition. GCC-STAT noted that ongoing population expansion and structural changes underline the importance of long-term policy planning in areas such as urban development, healthcare systems, labour markets and social protection. These themes align with broader development strategies across GCC states, including Qatar’s continued focus on sustainable development, human capital and infrastructure planning. The report highlights how the region’s youthful and economically active population base remains a defining feature of the Gulf’s demographic landscape, while gradual structural changes are shaping future planning priorities.

Participants at the 4th Private Sector Social Responsibility and Its Role in Sustainable Development Conference have adopted the Doha Declaration 2026, outlining a long-term roadmap to align business profitability with sustainability and social impact.The two-day conference, hosted by the Qatar Chamber, concluded on Thursday with recommendations focusing on unified standards for corporate social responsibility (CSR), stronger governance of global value chains, and increased investment in innovation, digital transformation and green finance.The declaration calls for the adoption of a unified professional classification for CSR, proposing the Arab CSR Index as a regional benchmark. It also urges family-owned businesses to embed environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices into their operations and to support initiatives promoting digital education, community health, women's empowerment, youth engagement and social entrepreneurship.Participants highlighted the importance of investing in artificial intelligence and green technologies to improve efficiency and reduce carbon footprints. The conference also recommended launching an International Observatory for Sustainability and Social Responsibility, alongside professional exchange and twinning programs aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and spreading a culture of social responsibility among younger generations.A key theme of the conference was the shift away from traditional charity-based CSR towards an integrated ESG-driven model aligned with international sustainability standards, seen as essential for long-term business resilience and economic competitiveness in the Arab world.The Doha Declaration 2026 also emphasised humanitarian solidarity, calling for the creation of joint Arab funds and initiatives to support research and development and digital entrepreneurship.Conference participants described social responsibility as a strategic pillar of good governance, arguing that the private sector plays a central role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in building trust between businesses and society.Organised jointly by the Qatar Chamber, the Union of Arab Chambers, the League of Arab States, the Regional Network Consultancy and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the conference began on Wednesday and brought together business leaders, policymakers and international partners.Organisers said the declaration represents a collective commitment to translating the conference's vision into practical policies, laying the foundations for what they described as a new social contract that balances growth with sustainability and equity for future generations. 

The fourth edition of the ‘Private Sector Social Responsibility and Its Role in Sustainable Development’ conference kicked off in Doha Wednesday.The two-day event, hosted by Qatar Chamber at its Lusail headquarters, in collaboration with the Union of Arab Chambers, the League of Arab States, the Regional Network Consultancy, and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), gathered officials, experts, and representatives of regional and international organisations.The conference aims to highlight the growing role of the private sector, particularly family businesses, in promoting social responsibility and integrating sustainability principles into corporate strategies, in line with sustainable development goals.It also provides a platform for dialogue, exchange of expertise, and the presentation of best practices that contribute to enhancing the social, economic, and environmental impact of private sector institutions in the Arab region.In his remarks, Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani emphasised that private sector social responsibility has become a strategic pillar of good governance, enhancing competitiveness and building trust with society, stressing the pivotal role of the private sector as a key partner in achieving sustainable development.He also noted that the selection of this year’s conference theme, ‘Mechanisms for Integrating Sustainability and Social Responsibility Principles in Arab Family Businesses’, underscores the pivotal role of family businesses in Arab economies and their vital contribution to achieving a balance between economic growth, social responsibility, and long-term sustainability.Sheikh Khalifa highlighted the vital role of Arab family businesses in balancing economic growth with social responsibility and long-term sustainability, affirming the importance of adopting sound governance practices, strategic planning, transparency, innovation, and investing in young leadership to ensure business continuity across generations.His Excellency the Minister of State Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kawari, who is also chairman of the Qatar National Library and International Ambassador for Social Responsibility, emphasised that integrating sustainability and social responsibility into Arab family businesses is essential for achieving comprehensive social development and building more cohesive and sustainable economies.He commended Qatar Chamber’s strategic role in stimulating the national economy and driving growth in Qatar, thanks to its efforts in linking business sectors and promoting the Qatari private sector’s presence on the international stage.He noted that social responsibility has evolved from seasonal initiatives into a core component of corporate governance, underscoring that the long-term sustainability of family businesses relies on sound governance, transparency, alignment with sustainable development goals, investment in human capital, and support for innovation.Dr Khaled Hanafy, the secretary general of the Union of Arab Chambers, said the conference serves as a model of commitment to social responsibility through its keenness to embrace initiatives that support this vital area. He said family businesses constitute a large proportion of the private sector, which represents nearly 75% of the Arab economy.Tarek el-Nabulsi, Minister Plenipotentiary and director of the Development and Social Policies Department at the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, stressed the vital role of the private sector in adopting social responsibility as a key partner in the development process, emphasising the League of Arab States’ support for the conference’s recommendations, which will be submitted to the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.Dr Hashim Sulaiman Hussein, head of Bahrain’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office at UNIDO, said family businesses are a key pillar in the economies of Arab countries, providing job opportunities and contributing to increasing the GDP.Professor Yousef Abdul Ghaffar, chairman of the Regional Network for CSR, said the Arab private sector, especially family businesses, constitutes a fundamental pillar in supporting Arab economies, enhancing social stability, and achieving sustainable development.Qatar Chamber acting general manager Ali Bu Sharbak al-Mansouri stressed that hosting the event stems from the chamber’s firm belief in the importance of social responsibility and the pivotal role played by Arab family businesses in supporting national economies and community institutions, as well as in achieving sustainable development.
