Shoulder Pain? When to seek specialist care in Qatar

Shoulder pain has a way of affecting almost every part of daily life. Simple tasks such as reaching for a shelf, lifting groceries, exercising, driving, or even sleeping comfortably can become surprisingly difficult. Many people assume shoulder pain will eventually disappear on its own. While minor strains often improve with rest, persistent pain may indicate an underlying condition that requires professional assessment. Knowing when to seek specialist care can help prevent long-term complications and support a faster return to normal activities.  Common Causes of Shoulder Pain The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, making it particularly vulnerable to injury and wear. Common causes include:Rotator cuff injuriesShoulder impingementTendinitisFrozen shoulderArthritisSports-related injuriesShoulder instability or dislocationIn Qatar, shoulder problems are frequently seen among athletes, gym-goers, manual workers, and office employees who spend long hours at a desk.  Signs You Should Not Ignore Pain That Persists for Several Weeks Temporary soreness is common after physical activity. However, pain lasting more than a few weeks may indicate structural damage or ongoing inflammation. Difficulty Lifting or Reaching Struggling to raise your arm overhead or perform routine activities may suggest tendon, muscle, or joint involvement. Night Pain That Disrupts Sleep Pain that worsens at night is often associated with rotator cuff disorders and other shoulder conditions that benefit from further evaluation. Weakness or Instability A sensation that the shoulder may slip, catch, or give way can indicate instability or previous injury requiring orthopedic assessment.  Why Accurate Diagnosis Matters Many shoulder conditions produce similar symptoms, which is why self-diagnosis can be misleading. A specialist evaluation often includes a physical examination and, when necessary, advanced diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI. Identifying the exact source of pain allows treatment to target the underlying problem rather than simply managing symptoms.  Treatment Options Not all shoulder pain requires surgery. Many patients improve through a combination of:Activity modificationPhysiotherapyTargeted strengthening exercisesPain management strategiesGuided rehabilitation programs For more complex cases, treatment may involve orthopedic consultation, image-guided interventions, or surgical procedures when conservative measures are no longer effective. A structured rehabilitation plan remains a key component of recovery, helping restore movement, strength, and long-term shoulder function.  When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation? Consider seeking specialist care if shoulder pain persists beyond a few weeks, limits daily activities, disrupts sleep, follows an injury, or is accompanied by weakness or loss of motion. Early evaluation can help identify the cause and expand available treatment options before the condition progresses.  About DOC Medical Center DOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar focused on orthopedics, sports medicine, spine care, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, neurology, neurosurgery, and surgical services. Through its Al Sadd, Lusail, and Izghawa branches, DOC provides patient-centered multidisciplinary care that supports patients from diagnosis through recovery. DOC Medical Center was recognized as the Best Medical Center in Qatar – Medicare Qatar Healthcare Awards 2025 and holds ACHSI EQUIP 7 International Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to clinical quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care. Shoulder pain is easier to treat when treated early. Shoulder pain is often easier to treat when addressed early. If symptoms are affecting your daily activities, exercise routine, or sleep, a professional evaluation can help determine the most appropriate next steps.  Phone: +974 4475 3333 --- Email: [email protected] --- https://www.docmedc.com/

Hip replacement surgery in Qatar: what to expect (2026 Guide)

IntroductionPersistent hip pain can gradually transform everyday activities into challenges. Walking through a shopping mall, climbing stairs, getting out of a car, or even sleeping comfortably may become increasingly difficult. For many people in Qatar, hip replacement surgery becomes a consideration when pain and stiffness start limiting independence and quality of life.While the idea of joint replacement can feel intimidating, modern surgical techniques, advanced imaging, and structured rehabilitation programs have significantly improved patient outcomes. Understanding what to expect before, during, and after surgery can help patients make informed decisions with greater confidence.When Is Hip Replacement Surgery Needed?Hip replacement surgery is commonly recommended when the hip joint has sustained significant damage and conservative treatments no longer provide adequate relief.Common causes include:•    Osteoarthritis•    Rheumatoid arthritis•    Hip fractures•    Avascular necrosis•    Advanced joint degenerationMany patients first notice persistent groin pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, and difficulty performing routine activities.Diagnosis and Treatment PlanningNot every patient with hip pain requires surgery.Accurate diagnosis is essential and typically begins with a specialist orthopedic assessment, physical examination, and diagnostic imaging such as X-rays or MRI scans. These investigations help determine the extent of joint damage and whether non-surgical options remain appropriate.Treatment plans are increasingly individualized, taking into account age, activity level, overall health, and recovery goals.What Happens During Hip Replacement Surgery?During the procedure, damaged portions of the hip joint are replaced with artificial components designed to restore smooth movement and reduce pain.Modern surgical planning focuses on:•    Restoring joint alignment•    Improving stability•    Preserving function•    Supporting long-term mobilityAdvances in orthopedic surgery have made procedures more precise, allowing many patients to begin walking shortly after surgery under professional supervision.Recovery: The Most Important PhaseA common misconception is that surgery alone solves the problem.In reality, rehabilitation plays a critical role in recovery. Structured physiotherapy programs help restore strength, mobility, balance, and confidence while reducing the risk of complications.Recovery pathways often involve coordinated care between orthopedic specialists, rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, and pain management teams. This multidisciplinary approach helps patients progress safely toward daily activities and long-term movement goals.Most patients experience gradual improvement over several months, although recovery timelines vary. When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation?Anyone experiencing persistent hip pain, increasing stiffness, difficulty walking, or reduced mobility should consider medical evaluation. Early assessment can identify the underlying cause and help determine whether conservative treatment, rehabilitation, or surgical intervention is most appropriate.About DOC Medical CenterDOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar focused on orthopedics, spine care, sports medicine, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, neurology, neurosurgery, and surgical services. Through its Al Sadd, Lusail, and Izghawa branches, DOC provides patient-centered multidisciplinary care that supports individuals from diagnosis through recovery. DOC Medical Center was recognized as the Best Medical Center in Qatar – Medicare Qatar Healthcare Awards 2025 and holds ACHSI EQUIP 7 International Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to quality, safety, and clinical excellence.Does hip pain affect your mobility or independence?If hip pain is affecting your mobility or independence, seeking an early evaluation may help clarify your treatment options and recovery pathway before symptoms worsen.Phone: +974 4475 3333Email: [email protected]

ACL tear recovery: everything Qatar athletes need to know

One awkward landing, sudden pivot, or change of direction can be enough to tear the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)—one of the knee’s most important stabilizing structures. For athletes and active individuals in Qatar, an ACL injury can feel devastating, raising immediate concerns about surgery, recovery time, and whether a return to sport is possible.The good news is that most athletes can successfully return to their chosen activities with the right diagnosis, treatment plan, and rehabilitation strategy. Understanding the recovery process is often the first step toward regaining confidence and performance.Understanding ACL Injuries and RecoveryThe ACL is a major ligament that helps stabilize the knee during movements involving cutting, jumping, pivoting, and rapid changes of direction.ACL tears commonly occur during:•    Football and futsal•    Basketball•    Padel and tennis•    Running and recreational sports•    Sudden twisting movementsMany patients report hearing or feeling a “pop” at the time of injury, followed by swelling and instability.Common SymptomsSymptoms may include:•    Immediate knee pain•    Rapid swelling•    Difficulty bearing weight•    Knee instability or “giving way”•    Reduced range of motionBecause other structures such as the meniscus or cartilage may also be injured, an accurate orthopedic assessment is important.Why Early Diagnosis MattersOne common misconception is that all ACL tears require immediate surgery.In reality, treatment depends on several factors, including age, activity level, knee stability, associated injuries, and athletic goals.Specialist evaluation often includes a physical examination and advanced imaging such as MRI to determine the extent of the injury and identify any additional damage within the joint.The Recovery JourneyNon-Surgical ManagementSome individuals with lower activity demands may benefit from structured rehabilitation focused on:•    Strength restoration•    Neuromuscular control•    Balance training•    Functional movement recoveryACL Reconstruction SurgeryFor competitive athletes and highly active individuals, ACL reconstruction is often recommended to restore knee stability and reduce the risk of recurrent injury.However, surgery is only one part of recovery.Rehabilitation Is the Real Game-ChangerModern ACL recovery relies heavily on physiotherapy-led rehabilitation programs that progress through carefully monitored stages.Recovery typically focuses on:•    Reducing swelling•    Restoring movement•    Building strength•    Improving agility•    Return-to-sport testingMultidisciplinary collaboration between orthopedic specialists, sports medicine professionals, rehabilitation physicians, and physiotherapists plays a key role in helping athletes return safely to activity.Returning to SportMany athletes feel physically ready before their knee is truly prepared for competitive demands.Return-to-sport decisions should be based on objective functional testing rather than time alone. A structured recovery pathway helps reduce the risk of reinjury and supports long-term knee health and performance.When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation?Anyone experiencing significant knee swelling, instability, difficulty walking, or a sports-related twisting injury should seek professional evaluation. Early assessment can help identify associated injuries and guide the most appropriate treatment strategy.About DOC Medical CenterDOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar providing orthopedic care, sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, neurology, neurosurgery, and surgical services. With branches in Al Sadd, Lusail, and Izghawa, DOC supports patients through coordinated multidisciplinary care pathways from diagnosis through recovery. DOC Medical Center was recognized as the Best Medical Center in Qatar – Medicare Qatar Healthcare Awards 2025 and holds ACHSI EQUIP 7 International Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to clinical quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care.Have you suffered a knee injury?If you have experienced a knee injury during sport or are concerned about ACL recovery, timely evaluation can help clarify your treatment options and recovery pathway.Phone: +974 4475 3333Email: [email protected] https://www.docmedc.com/

Korean Medical center celebrates its second anniversary as the first gateway to Korean healthcare in Qatar and the region

The Korean Medical Center (KMC) has celebrated its second anniversary in Qatar, highlighting two years of growth, innovation, and partnership in support of the country’s long-term healthcare vision. The anniversary event brought together representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, healthcare leaders, partners, members of the Korean community, and media, reflecting KMC’s expanding role in Qatar’s health ecosystem. Since opening its doors in Lusail, KMC has delivered more than 100,000 services, including consultations, procedures, and diagnostic tests.These services span advanced diagnostics, including comprehensive executive health screening and early disease detection; spine and joint care, including sports-related medicine; fertility, including a dedicated IVF center; plastic surgery, dermatology and aesthetics; dentistry; and Korean medicine, all under one roof and in partnership with leading Korean healthcare providers such as Asan Medical Center, JK Plastic Surgery Center, EHL Biotechnology Institute, and GC Genome.  This model is rooted in the Korean philosophy of balance, prevention, and enhancing long-term quality of life. Alex Jankuloski, Hospital Director of the Korean Medical Center, commented:“Over the past two years, we have been privileged to serve patients in Qatar and the region, where healthcare is held to a very high standard. Backed by Korean expertise, our focus has always been on making a real difference in people’s lives through care that patients can trust. As the first gateway to Korean healthcare in Qatar and the region, we are proud of what we have built so far and look forward to continuing this journey, closer to home.” KMC was established with a model that treats the person rather than the symptom, integrating medicine, beauty, and wellness along a single continuum of care. Patients can move seamlessly between executive screening, joint and mobility care, Korean medicine, dental and aesthetic services, and family health within one coordinated plan, reflecting a broader shift towards proactive, preventive care in line with the country’s focus on managing non-communicable diseases. “From day one, our ambition was to build a healthcare institution that meets the highest international standards while being deeply rooted in Qatar’s own vision for health and wellbeing,” added Dr. Fatih Mehmet Gul, CEO of Apex Health in Qatar. “Two years on, that commitment has not changed. We will continue to invest in clinical excellence, deepen our roots in Qatar, and work with national partners to support the country’s priorities in prevention, early detection and long-term wellbeing. At the same time, we are building KMC into a destination for authentic Korean care across the wider region, giving patients throughout the GCC access to expertise and treatments that would otherwise require travelling to Korea.” Over the past two years, a significant proportion of KMC’s executive health screenings have resulted in clinical findings that patients were not previously aware of, underscoring the importance of early detection as a contribution to public health. The center has also introduced several services that were previously difficult to access locally for the wider public, including licensed stem cell therapy for joints, advanced Korean plastic surgery and aesthetics, and AI-driven dental solutions. Together, these offerings position KMC as a reference point for authentic Korean care in Qatar and a growing destination for patients across the GCC seeking specialised Korean treatments closer to home. KMC’s model is anchored by strategic partnerships with four of South Korea’s leading institutions: Asan Medical Center, JK Plastic Surgery Center, EHL Biotechnology Institute, and GC Genome. These partnerships ensure that the standards, protocols and technologies in Lusail remain closely aligned with the latest developments in Seoul, while being adapted to the needs of patients in Qatar. The Korean Medical Center operates under Apex Health, the fastest-growing healthcare company in the Middle East and North Africa region. Apex Health manages a network of leading healthcare institutions dedicated to delivering advanced medical services in line with the highest standards, with a strong focus on quality of care and patient experience in Qatar and across the region.

Trump's name removed from Washington arts center

Workers in the US capital removed President Donald Trump's name from the facade of the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, the venue announced, after a federal judge ruled that its renaming was unlawful.In a legal filing, the center's Executive Director Matt Floca said it had "removed all physical signage on the Kennedy Center building and grounds" containing Trump's name.Around noon Washington time, the sign on the building's exterior was still covered by a white tarp put up as work was being conducted to remove Trump's name.Earlier, loud noise echoed from beneath the cover, as morning joggers stopped briefly in front of the venue to watch the work.The effort came after a judge rejected a last-minute bid by the center's board to halt the removal of Trump's name, marking a setback for the president's broader push since returning to the White House to place his name and image in official spaces — an abrupt break with American political tradition.**media[457239]**An eager crowd had gathered outside the arts center Friday night, cheering occasionally as workers erected scaffolding to take down the signage. Thousands monitored from afar via livestream, too, awaiting the moment when Trump's name would be torn from the wall.The work was delayed by "thunderstorms which presented safety concerns to workers" and was expected to be completed "in the early hours of the morning," Kennedy Center Executive Director Matt Floca said in a statement.US District Judge Christopher Cooper, in a ruling last month, had ordered Trump's name taken off the iconic building in Washington by Friday.Cooper said in his May 29 ruling that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts had been illegally renamed after Trump and only Congress has the right to change its name.**media[457240]**He gave the administration 14 days to remove Trump's name from the marble facade and any materials linked to the venue.The Kennedy Center dropped Trump's name from the website of the institution earlier this week.On Friday, Cooper rejected a last-minute appeal by the center's board to stay his ruling, prompting the center to request a 12-hour extension of the deadline to remove the signage.The judge turned down the request, saying the public interest "is rarely served by the 'perpetuation' of 'unlawful' governmental action."Cooper has also issued a temporary block on Trump's demand to close the Kennedy Center for two years of renovations, which was due to start in July.A furious Trump reacted by saying he was giving up control of the venue, which he seized at the start of his second term last year by naming himself chairman.The center's governing board, which Trump stacked with loyalists, voted to rename the venue the "Trump Kennedy Center" in December and the Republican president's full name was added to the facade in large, all-capital letters above that of Kennedy.**media[457238]**A number of artists canceled scheduled performances following the move.The now-defunct US Institute of Peace was renamed after Trump, and his face stares down from huge banners outside the Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture.The Trump administration is also seeking to have his image on a $250 bill to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence from Britain.

His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani honoured 36 graduates of the Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities at a ceremony held Tuesday morning at the centre's headquarters in Doha.The PM presided over the centre's 2026 graduation, joined by a number of ministers, senior Shafallah officials, faculty and administrative staff, and the graduates' families.Executive Director Fatima Saeed al-Saadi said the PM's patronage of the ceremony reflected the close attention Qatar pays to persons with disabilities and its commitment to supporting their path towards empowerment and a fuller role in society.She described the occasion as both national and humanitarian, embodying Qatar's drive to entrench inclusion, equality and equal opportunity in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. Graduation, she added, opened a new chapter of contribution, independence and engagement in professional and social life.The centre's work, al-Saadi said, extends the state's wider approach to supporting and empowering persons with disabilities under Vision 2030 and Law No. 22 of 2025 on persons with disabilities, which advances the principles of inclusion, equal opportunity, independence and active participation. Its programmes help translate those goals into practice through specialised educational and rehabilitation services that build members' capabilities and widen their access to learning, work and community life.She noted that the centre continues to prepare its members for employment through integrated educational and rehabilitation programmes, working with partners across the public and private sectors to strengthen their integration into society and the labour market.Shafallah offers a broad range of services tailored to its members' needs — from academic qualification to vocational training and sports and arts activities — with an emphasis on the personal and life skills that enable independence and community participation. It also pursues economic empowerment by readying members for the labour market, with a number of graduates having taken up posts in public and private bodies, reinforcing their job stability and their place in varied working environments.Established in 1999, the Shafallah Center is one of the centres of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work. It provides specialised educational and rehabilitation services for persons with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, while promoting public awareness of their rights and supporting their opportunities for inclusion and independence.

Al Markhiya Gallery exhibition to host works of three artists

Al Markhiya Gallery at Katara Art Center is organising the exhibition 'Between Yesterday and Today,' opening on Tuesday. Featuring the works of artists Lulu M, Masoud Rashid al-Balushi, and Mubarak al-Malik, the exhibition offers an artistic exploration of the three artists’ careers, highlighting the transformations in their creative experiences, the ideas that have evolved over time, and the artistic identities that have been shaped through years of research, experimentation, and growth.Through their new works, the artists showcase different stages of their artistic journeys, with each piece reflecting a unique signature and experience, while maintaining the common thread that united them in their early beginnings. The exhibition also provides visitors with an opportunity to compare the transformations in their artistic styles and creative visions over the past ten years.The exhibition serves as a space for dialogue between the past and the present, documenting the evolution of the artists' individual experiences and highlighting how accumulated expertise and experiences have shaped their current works, whether in terms of techniques, themes, or visual approaches.The organisers emphasise that 'Between Yesterday and Today' is not merely a showcase of new artworks, but rather a journey of reflection on the paths of three artists who began from a common point before each embarking on his or her own unique journey, only to reunite this time in an artistic experience that celebrates growth, development, and continuity within the visual arts landscape.
