A total of 46 teams of high school students from Qatar, the US, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Bahrain took part in the latest instalment of Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (QCM-Q)’s annual High School Research Competition.The event brought 165 high school students from 26 high schools in Qatar to the college to present research posters to an audience of their peers and a panel of WCM-Q judges.A further 12 teams from the international schools presented their research posters to the judging panel via an Internet link.The contest, organised by the WCM-Q’s Office of Student Outreach and Educational Development, is designed to give high school students opportunities to employ scientific research methods and enhance their presentation skills, while simultaneously inspiring them to explore careers in medicine and research.**media[422123]**The suggested themes of the research posters were based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and their application in Qatar, with topics including health and wellbeing, water and sanitation, sustainable cities and communities, and responsible consumption and production.Each team comprised up to five students from grades 10-12, with each school represented by up to four teams.Led by a science and math teacher from their school, the teams chose topics, conducted research, and created posters to present to the panel.The competition is part of the WCM-Q’s Doctors of the Future Conference, a gathering of educational leaders and future medical professionals scheduled for April 10-11.The top teams will have the opportunity to present their projects at the conference, and one of the top three finalist teams will receive the Doctors of the Future Conference award.Dr Rachid Bendriss, the associate dean for foundation, student outreach and educational development programmes, said: “The High School Research Competition gives students excellent opportunities to engage with the scientific method while also discovering the many career paths that can be accessed by studying medicine at an elite medical college.”“We were very impressed by the quality of the posters, the confidence with which the students presented their work, and the level of interest in medicine, healthcare and research demonstrated by the students,” he said.Noha Saleh, director of pre-medical administration, student outreach and educational development, said: “We are very pleased that so many students took part and showed such aptitude for conducting their own research projects.”“We are confident that the event has provided great encouragement for students who wish to pursue studies and careers in the sciences, and we hope many of those who took part will one day apply to study medicine at the WCM-Q,” Saleh added. 

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has reaffirmed its continued support for Al Tamakon Comprehensive School (also known as Al Tamakon for Comprehensive Education) to strengthen the stability of the educational journey for students with disabilities and provide a safe, stimulating learning environment that promotes equal opportunities and social integration.In a statement Sunday, the ministry said the support reflects a comprehensive vision to advance equal educational opportunities for vulnerable groups by easing financial burdens on families and enabling students to fully benefit from specialised academic and rehabilitation programs. It noted that the initiative contributes to improved educational outcomes, personal development, and greater confidence among students, supporting their effective participation in society.Speaking at a press conference, Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments Engineer Hassan bin Abdullah al-Marzouqi said that investing in education represents an investment in the future, emphasising that empowering persons with disabilities academically and intellectually is both a societal responsibility and a moral duty.He added that the Directorate continues to support Al Tamakon Comprehensive School through the Waqf (Endowment) Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development and the Waqf Fund for Healthcare, helping provide a high-quality educational environment that enables students with disabilities to learn, grow, and realise their potential.Al-Marzouqi stressed that the strength of societies is measured by their ability to empower all members and ensure equal opportunities, highlighting the role of endowments in promoting inclusive education, enhancing independence, and supporting the integration of students with disabilities into society so they can achieve their aspirations.For his part, Head of the Digital Quality Unit at Al Tamakon Comprehensive School Engineer Abdulsalam al-Yassin said that the ministry's support has been a cornerstone in ensuring the continuity and stability of the educational journey for students with disabilities.He noted that the support extends beyond covering tuition fees, reflecting a firm belief that education is an inherent right for every student and a strategic investment in the future and quality of life of children.Al-Yassin added that the partnership represents an effective model of cooperation between educational institutions and supporting entities, supported by a precise mechanism to assess the stability of students' educational progress within their families' living conditions according to clear criteria. This ensures fairness and transparency, preserves donor confidence, and enhances the sustainability of educational impact.The Waqf Bank for Scientific and Cultural Development is among the endowment entities dedicated to supporting educational and scientific initiatives and sponsoring knowledge-based programs that contribute to human development and capacity-building by directing endowment proceeds toward high-quality educational projects and institutions serving diverse segments of society.The ongoing co-operation reflects a successful national model for utilising endowment resources to support the education of persons with disabilities, reinforcing social solidarity values and contributing to building a more inclusive and sustainable society.

Two Physical Education faculty members of MES Indian School were recently felicitated at the 7th Edition of the Expats Sportive Community Sports Meet 2026 in recognition of their exemplary contributions to the field of sports. Steeson K Mathew and Mohamed Navas were accorded special honours during the grand inaugural ceremony, which celebrated individuals who have made significant strides in the sporting community and recognised their outstanding achievements and dedicated commitment to promoting sporting excellence.Mathew, an International Asian Masters Athletics bronze medalist in javelin throw at the championship held in the Philippines, was honoured by First Lt Abdul Aziz al-Mohannadi in appreciation of his remarkable contributions and excellence in athletics.Navas, an Indian handball team player and bronze medalist at the World Masters Games 2025 held in Taiwan, received his honour from Satheesh, CFO of Al Ajjaj Limited Company. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of Qatar-based international athletes and acknowledged their significant contributions to the promotion and development of sports. The recognition of the MES Indian School staff members highlighted their dedication and commitment to sporting excellence, bringing pride to the institution. 

The Organising Committee of the School Olympic Program (SOP) held a ceremony to honour promising athletes, who joined Qatar’s national teams through the program.The event was attended by Mohamed bin Yousef al-Mana, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC); Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman al-Kuwari, Second Vice President of the QOC; Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the SOP, along with several presidents and representatives of sports federations.A total of 24 male and female athletes were honoured during the ceremony. These talents were identified and developed through the SOP and have successfully represented Qatar’s national teams across seven sports: football, hockey, rugby, volleyball, shooting, and tennis.Al-Mana expressed his appreciation to His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the QOC, for his continued support of the SOP. He noted that this backing reflects a clear vision and a sustainable investment in the development of Qatari sport by focusing on identifying and nurturing young talent within an integrated institutional framework.Al-Mana emphasized that the SOP represents one of the fundamental pathways in building a strong sporting base to support national teams in the future. He added that the inclusion of several players in the national squads is the result of joint efforts between sports and educational institutions.He also stressed the importance of providing an appropriate environment and continuous technical and administrative support to enable these athletes to continue their sporting journeys with confidence and stability, and to achieve further success that elevates Qatar’s name at regional and international competitions.Al-Buenain affirmed that the program has become a cornerstone in discovering sporting talent across various disciplines. He noted that the athletes honoured have demonstrated distinguished technical levels and proved their readiness to transition to higher competitive stages in the coming period.In his address during the ceremony, Sheikh Khalifa stated: “This gathering is not merely a recognition ceremony; it represents a milestone in evaluating and acknowledging the success of the Talent Identification Project, one of the executive initiatives within the School Olympic Program. The project was designed to serve as an organized link between the school, the sports federation, and the national team, within a clear and integrated pathway for champion development.”He added that the Ministry of Education has played a pivotal role in this system by empowering the school environment, supporting program implementation, and enhancing the role of schools and physical education teachers in the early identification and nomination of talent according to clear standards. He noted that the School Olympic Program then structures the discovery process, unifies procedures, and ensures a systematic transition of talented athletes from the school environment to the competitive pathway within an approved technical and administrative framework.
