Qatar fans are preparing to provide strong support for the national team as it embarks on its second FIFA World Cup appearance at the 2026 tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. Qatar's participation has attracted considerable attention, particularly because it comes through the qualification process this time, following the team's first World Cup appearance in 2022 as the host nation. Qatar has been drawn in Group B and will open its campaign against Switzerland on June 13 in San Francisco. The team will then travel to Vancouver to face Canada on June 18 before concluding their group-stage matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle on June 24. Qatari supporters are preparing to travel to the United States and Canada after the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced that arrangements had been completed for 1,000 fans. Three charter flights will transport supporters from Qatar to the United States on June 9, 10, and 11. Support for the national team at the World Cup will not be limited to the official fan delegation departing from Doha. It will also include Qatari students and other supporters residing in the United States and Canada. The QFA has coordinated with Qatar's cultural attaché office in the United States and the Qatari Embassy in Canada to invite all Qatari students to attend the team's first three group-stage matches. The fan delegation includes the "Maroon Stand" (Mudaraj Al Annabi) initiative, which was launched ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qatar and received widespread praise for helping mobilize supporters and encouraging young Qataris to back the national team during the continental championship. The initiative has since expanded to local and international competitions, contributing to the revival of strong fan support for the national side. The QFA has signed a cooperation agreement with the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) to finance the national team supporters' delegation for the 2026 World Cup. Under the agreement, the fund will provide the financial support necessary for the association to implement a comprehensive travel program for fans traveling from Qatar to the United States and Canada. The package includes flight arrangements through Qatar Airways, the tournament's official carrier, as well as hotel accommodations and ground transportation. ALL LOGISTICAL ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED QFA has completed all logistical arrangements for the supporters' delegation, including air travel from San Francisco to Vancouver for the team's second match. Twelve hotels have been secured for Qatari fans: five in San Francisco, four in Vancouver and three in Seattle, where Qatar will play Bosnia and Herzegovina in its final group-stage match. The presence of Qatari supporters is regarded as a key factor in helping the team perform at its best and present a positive image of Qatari football on the global stage, while also reinforcing the country's broader investment in sports. The backing of Qatari fans builds on the country's successful promotional and fan-engagement experience at major tournaments both at home and abroad, reflected in the strong attendance at national team matches. Supporters remain committed to providing continuous encouragement to help the team achieve the best possible results and create the conditions for players to perform at their highest level. Qatari fans hope the national team can deliver a strong showing at the upcoming tournament and that their support will help propel the side deep into a competition featuring many of the world's leading national teams. 

Experienced midfielder Assim Madibo has said Qatar team can handle the pressure of playing against strong sides when they kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign next week. Qatar, two-time Asian champions, take on Switzerland, Canada and Bosnia & Herzegovina in their three group stage matches across the US and Canada. “This journey with the national team has been full of challenges (in the last few years). I am satisfied with my performance over the past years, having participated in numerous tournaments, including the last two editions of the AFC Asian Cup and other competitions,” Madibo, 29, said in a video interview released by the Qatar Football Association (QFA). “The accumulated experience of many of the current squad members, who have previously participated in continental and international tournaments, such as the AFC Asian Cup (which Qatar won in 2019 and 2023), can motivate the players to perform at their best, as they have developed the ability to handle pressure,” he said. Madibo expressed his desire to perform admirably and bring joy to the fans during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. He pointed out that the task at the World Cup will not be easy because the nature of matches in such major tournaments requires intense focus and attention to detail, including managing the pressures. PLAYERS GAINED SUFFICIENT EXPERIENCE He noted that the players have gained sufficient experience to adapt to a tournament of the World Cup’s magnitude. “Our other task as experienced players is to help the players participating for the first time overcome the hurdle of dealing with these high-stakes matches and immerse themselves in the tournament atmosphere early on. Our main goal remains to form a cohesive group of young players and experienced veterans,” he added. He emphasized that the presence of fans in the stands is a significant motivator for the players, contributing to their best possible performance. Madibo said that their objective as players is to bring joy to the Qatari fans, to make a respectable showing in Al Annabi s second appearance at the World Cup finals, and to reflect the progress Qatar football has made in recent years. Qatar will play their first match in the 2026 World Cup, when they face Switzerland on June 13 in San Francisco, USA. In Vancouver, Qatar will face Canada on June 18, and conclude their matches by playing Bosnia & Herzegovina in Seattle, USA, on June 24. 

The match schedule has been revealed for the group stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026. The tournament will take place from 19 November to 13 December, with the finest youth international teams on the planet set to compete for global glory. The inaugural 48-team edition of the event was held in Qatar last year and proved a huge success, with packed-out crowds savouring the chance to watch exceptional young talents showcase their skills on the world stage. More thrills are in store at this year’s event, with a host of eye-catching match-ups set in the U-17 World Cup draw. A vibrant and colourful atmosphere can be expected when host nation Qatar take on Egypt in Group A.  Spain and Morocco will face off in a tantalising Group H clash, while there will be a showdown between the reigning U-17 South American and Asian champions when Colombia and Japan go head-to-head in Group L. The tournament will again be held at the state-of-the-art Aspire Zone complex, with eight matches per day during the group stage and Round of 32 phase.  From Saturday to Wednesday, the action will begin at 15:30 local time, with the last kick-off at 18:30. On Thursdays and Fridays, the action will begin at 16:00, with the last kick-off at 19:00. The final will be staged at the Khalifa International Stadium on 13 December at 19:00 local time.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the spectacular arena, which hosted eight matches at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as well as the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 final. Ticket information will be announced in due course. 

Experienced defender Pedro Miguel on Sunday said Qatar will aim to reach the second round when they arrive in the US for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Two-time Asian champions, Qatar will land in the United States after playing an international friendly against Ireland in Dublin on May 28. Pedro, who plays for Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League (QSL), was a member of the Qatar side that won the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. The 35-year-old was also in the Qatar squad that defended their Asian Cup title on home soil in Feb 2024.**media[449824]**“We learned a lot from our performance at the 2022 World Cup,” Pedro said yesterday while answering a question at the media day activities at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium. “The last four years went very fast. I feel now we are ready for this World Cup,” Pedro said. “We have more experience as a team. We have many players who can make a difference. This is very important. These players are coming with a lot of energy. We are looking forward to the World Cup. Our target is to reach the second round,” he added. Qatar, coached by Julen Lopetegui, will face Switzerland on June 13 and Canada on June 19. The third match will be against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 24.**media[449823]**The 35-member Qatar squad includes Akram Afif, a two-time Asian Player of the Year, and long-serving forward Hasan al-Haydos. Qatar’s strike force also includes forward Al-Moez Ali. Goalkeeper Meshal Barsham is also key to Qatar’s possible shot at the second round. At the FIFA World Cup on home soil in 2022, Qatar lost 2-0 to Ecuador followed by a 3-1 defeat against Senegal. In their last group stage match, the Netherlands beat Qatar 2-0. “There was a lot of pressure in 2022. There was immense pressure to do well in front of our fans. We didn’t play the way our fans expected. But now we are playing another World Cup. We have another chance to show what we can do,” Pedro said before his team’s open training session on the pitch at the air conditioned Khalifa International Stadium. “Now I feel there will be less pressure than the last one because we are playing away from home. We don’t play at home this time,” Pedro said as he smiled.“Our first aim is to arrive in the best shape for the first game against Switzerland. We are working very hard. All the players are giving 100% in the training to be in the best shape in the first game,” Pedro said. “To play in the World Cup - the best tournament in the world – is something we are looking forward to. All the players are very excited to start the tournament. It’s a difficult group. We play against strong national teams. They have good players. But I feel my teammates are ready for this tournament. We will show what we can do. It won’t be like the last World Cup.”**media[449822]**Qatar centre back Tarek Salman, 28, said on Sunday: “There’s an eagerness from our players to go out and give their best. This will be our second World Cup appearance. I can safely say our preparations are progressing really well following the end of the football season We are looking forward to playing positively against Ireland and El Salvador (on June 6 in Los Angeles). These two friendly games will give us the chance to fine-tune the technical aspects of our preparations. I say these two matches will be very important for us,” Salman said. Salman echoed Pedro’s sentiments on Sunday, saying: “Most of the players have gained significant experience since our first World Cup appearance in 2022. The experience players have now is of great importance. I think this experience will have a major impact on our performance at the World Cup.” Qatari left back Homam El-Amin said on Sunday: “Qatar has done really well since the 2022 World Cup. We played some tough qualifying matches. We acknowledge we have to face tough teams like Switzerland, Canada and Bosnia & Herzegovina. But we feel ready at this point in time.”

For Yasamin Shaikhi, it was a moment of realisation and great pride when her artwork ‘The Loudest Grain’ made of rice, won Media City Qatar’s inaugural "Next in Arts" programme at Art Basel Qatar 2026.It was a great moment in her career as several high-profile dignitaries and artists visited her work and suddenly she was among the talks of the inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar.Shaikhi, an alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), told Gulf Times that the number of high profile visitors to her work was truly exciting and the significance of ‘The Loudest Grain’ lies in the irony of its material.**media[439485]**She said “Presenting the work through this platform has also shown me how widely that idea can resonate. Seeing The Loudest Grain viewed by figures such as Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Angelina Jolie, and thousands of exhibition visitors reinforced for me that even the most ordinary materials can spark meaningful global conversations when framed in the right way.”“We usually think of rice as something quiet, humble, and biodegradable. A material that exists in volume, but is rarely noticed as an individual unit. By transforming rice waste into a rigid, structural biomaterial that represents digital waves, I’m giving that “quiet” grain a loud, permanent voice. It’s about making the invisible signals of our media landscape tangible through a material that everyone recognises,” she explained.Shaikhi noted that she first came across the topic during her master’s programme at VCUarts Qatar as she was deeply researching food waste renaissance, exploring how everyday organic waste could be repurposed into high-quality design materials.**media[439486]**She continued: “When the opportunity with Media City Qatar came up, I wanted to find a way to bridge that material research with the concept of media. I realised that both rice and media are ubiquitous. They are everywhere. They sustain us, yet we rarely stop to think about their underlying substance. That’s when the idea clicked: using the “grain” of the rice to visualise the “grain” of a digital signal.”The young artist noted that some of the challenges associated with creating The Loudest Grain were primarily about precision and predictability. “Technically, I had to ensure the material cured at exactly the right thickness and strength, while also understanding how to manipulate it in its uncured, flexible state. It was a bit of a puzzle to predict exactly how the final form would hold once fully cured,” she remarked.“Conceptually, the challenge was in giving form to something invisible, finding a way to translate the abstract digital signals into a physical language while remaining true to the grounded, organic nature of the material. Balancing that tension between the high-tech concept and the low-tech material is exactly what made the final piece so rewarding,” she underlined.She said that her next steps are deeply rooted in collaboration. She emphasised: “I firmly believe that when different disciplines come together and exchange ideas, a certain kind of magic happens, the work begins to speak across multiple worlds and audiences. I want to continue partnering with local creatives to explore how my material research can intersect with their fields and practices.”“I also plan to work closely with local galleries, institutions, and museum platforms to exhibit these pieces more widely across the country, creating greater visibility for this type of experimental design work. My hope is to spark curiosity in viewers and, in turn, inspire other emerging artists and designers to think differently about materiality, process, and sustainability,” added, Shaikhi. 

Team Qatar delivered an outstanding performance at the opening round of the 2026 European Le Mans Series, securing a remarkable victory in the 992 AM category at the prestigious race held at Mugello Circuit. The Qatari trio of Abdulla al-Khelaifi, Ahmad al-Emadi, and Faesal Al-Yafei showcased exceptional teamwork, consistency, and racecraft throughout the demanding endurance event. The race format was uniquely divided into two parts. Part 1, held on Saturday, featured 5 hour 30 minutes of intense racing, during which Team Qatar set the tone early by taking the lead in the 992 AM category. Demonstrating strong pace and strategic precision, the team maintained their advantage heading into the overnight break. On Sunday, Part 2 resumed with the remaining 6 hours 30 minutes of racing. Despite the challenges of endurance competition, including tire management, and sustained focus, the Team Qatar drivers executed a flawless continuation of their performance. They successfully defended their position, ultimately crossing the finish line in P1, sealing a well-deserved victory. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Team Qatar, highlighting the drivers’ growing presence on the international endurance racing scene and reinforcing Qatar’s reputation in global motorsport.
