The fourth edition of the Qatar Real Estate Forum 2026 concluded on Thursday after three days at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC).The event was organised in partnership by the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Aqarat), Informa Tharawat, and Cityscape Qatar 2026.The forum addressed key topics, including diversifying investment portfolios across residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties; real estate financing and publicly traded real estate investment trusts (REITs); digital asset tokenisation; property valuation and market data; quality of life; infrastructure; and long-term urban planning.It also featured interactive workshops and an innovation platform exploring how technology is transforming real estate ownership, management, and operations.The final day included panel discussions on Qatar's advantages as an investment destination, health-focused real estate investment, the everyday impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on cities, Qatar's urban development strategy, and the Law on Owners' Associations.Participants in one panel emphasised the importance of preserving the distinctive characteristics of Qatari residential neighbourhoods in urban planning to promote family cohesion and social harmony.Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Fahad bin Mohammed al-Khayarin stressed that security extends beyond the safety of roads and buildings to include family stability within residential neighbourhoods.He highlighted the importance of convenient access to facilities and preserving residents' traditions, including the culture of majlis gatherings.Director of Urban Development, Planning and Building Permits at Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company Mohammed al-Emadi said that successful residential neighbourhoods in Qatari cities depend on integrated services, while real estate developers must preserve urban plans and adhere to design standards.During a panel on investment in Qatar, executive director of Strategy at the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar Hamad Rashid al-Nuaimi said the country offers foreign investors a comprehensive range of services and seeks to build long-term partnerships.He added that investors receive support to grow their businesses and expand internationally from a base in the Qatari market.Speaking at a session on "Live, Work, Play and Thrive: Why Should Qatar Be Your Next Destination", al-Nuaimi outlined the services provided by Qatar and the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, from initial information gathering and company establishment to ongoing guidance, support, and business visits to the country.He also highlighted Qatar's advantages in healthcare, security, and the quality of its education system and institutions, noting that investors often place greater weight on these factors than on economic considerations.At a panel on the use of AI in real estate, Ooredoo Qatar chief corporate services officer Hassan Ismail al-Emadi said the company focuses on three key priorities when handling data: ensuring local data remains within Qatar, managing individual and corporate data transparently, and maintaining cybersecurity.He added that Ooredoo verifies cybersecurity measures, follows applicable regulations, and complies with relevant requirements.Speaking at a session on "The Livable City, Reimagined: The Everyday Impact of AI in Qatar", he said that the company works to address gaps early and integrate control centres, such as those managing electricity, with maintenance centres.He noted that Ooredoo seeks to enable connectivity among these services.Ocgrow Ventures founder and chief executive Harish Consul said that Qatar is making significant progress in adopting AI, noting the sector's rapid growth and the considerable potential for further applications in the future.On the relationship between real estate investment and health, regional general manager of Chiva-Som and JayaSom-affiliated companies Ammar Samad stressed the importance of investing in resorts and the wellness sector, which offers services beyond those provided by traditional hotels.Speaking at a panel on "Healthy Real Estate: The Investment Case for Health-Centred Development", he said that wellness resorts can become valuable real estate assets by preserving authenticity, avoiding imitation, and conducting thorough market research.He noted that such resorts differ from traditional hotels by offering specialised healthcare services and consultations throughout guests' stays.Samad expected demand for wellness services to increase in the coming years.He projected annual growth of 5-6% in the hospitality sector, compared with approximately 20% in the wellness sector.The forum coincided with Cityscape Qatar 2026, which showcased more than 400 real estate projects from Qatar and international markets.The exhibition provided investors, developers, and buyers with a direct platform to explore opportunities and establish partnerships, fe Qatar’s infrastructure, investor-protection regulations and strong banking sector continue to support its real estate market, with Barwa Real Estate unveiling a new two-tower residential development in Lusail.Dr Eng. Abdullah Nasser al-Kaabi, Construction and Project Control director at Barwa Real Estate, said the country’s resilience through successive economic shocks over the past 15 years had strengthened its appeal to domestic and international investors.“Qatar, mashallah, is a resilient country,” he said in an interview with Gulf Times on the sidelines of the opening of the fourth Real Estate Forum Qatar 2026. “For the past 15 years, we’ve been through different shocks and we have already recovered.”Al-Kaabi identified infrastructure, regulations and the banking sector as three key considerations for foreign investors evaluating opportunities in the country.“The first thing is the infrastructure,” he said. “Qatar is number one in infrastructure in terms of railways, metro, roads and everything, and in terms of connectivity.”Al-Kaabi also highlighted the importance of laws and regulations designed to protect investors, alongside the banking sector’s financing capabilities and credibility.“Our banking sector in terms of finance and in terms of credibility – we are strong enough in Qatar,” he said, adding that these factors would encourage foreign investors to enter the market.Against this backdrop, Barwa has introduced Barwa Bay, a residential project showcased at Cityscape 2026, comprising two towers of 23 and 27 floors, with a total of 639 apartments.The development will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, with units providing sea views, partial sea views or limited sea views. Both towers will be fully furnished, with most apartments featuring balconies.Designed to combine residential living with leisure and recreational facilities, the project will include a ground-floor podium housing coffee shops, restaurants and a children’s club.Swimming pools are planned on top of each tower, alongside a shared pool in the central area.Residents will also have access to a badminton court and an Olympic track on the podium, allowing them to enjoy sports and leisure facilities within the development.“The tenants that buy an apartment here, they don’t need to go outside to go to the gym or to play badminton or whatever,” al-Kaabi said. “Everything is in Barwa Bay.”The development’s location is another selling point, with proximity to Lusail landmarks, including Place Vendôme mall, as well as Lusail Tram and metro connections.Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion targeted for 2030.Barwa has also outlined a seven-year payment plan, allowing buyers to keep paying by instalment after they receive their apartments, according to al-Kaabi.The project will feature two distinct design concepts: an earthy-themed tower and a modern-themed tower.Barwa Bay adds to the range of residential offerings emerging in Lusail, where homebuyers and investors prioritise transport connectivity, integrated amenities, and access to commercial destinations.

People should learn to protect their information before falling victim to cyberattacks, Sara al-Kuwari of Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency has urged, highlighting the value of awareness and training. Al-Kuwari stressed that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, with individuals, society and private companies all having a role in safeguarding personal information against growing digital threats. “Do not wait until you become a victim,” she said, urging people to take a proactive approach to protecting their data rather than waiting for an incident to occur.Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency The National Cyber Security Agency works to raise awareness among people with different levels of technical knowledge, helping both technology professionals and ordinary users understand the importance of cybersecurity. “The Agency also provides awareness and guidance to people, whether they are technical or non-technical,” al-Kuwari said, highlighting the need to make cybersecurity knowledge accessible to everyone. She explained that the agency also plays an important role in protecting personal data at individual and societal levels, while raising awareness of software vulnerabilities and the importance of keeping systems updated. “If a vulnerability is found in certain software or updates, it alerts individuals to install the updates,” she said. Al-Kuwari pointed people to the agency’s Instagram account as a source of information on updates and alerts, encouraging them to follow official guidance to help protect their devices and personal information. Beyond public awareness, the agency also provides training for people who want to understand the methods used in cyberattacks. Such training can help participants recognise how attackers operate, how scams are carried out and how information may be exposed or stolen. She said the aim is to equip people with the knowledge to identify risks and take steps to protect themselves before their information is compromised. Asked whether the agency offers training or programmes, al-Kuwari confirmed that it provides training opportunities and also referred to engagement with commercial organisations. Her message is that cybersecurity should not be treated as a concern only for technical experts. By staying informed, paying attention to security alerts and learning to recognise common threats, individuals can take practical steps to reduce their exposure to online risks. As more personal information is handled digitally, awareness remains an important first line of defence against cyber threats.
