Al Sadd thrashed Al Gharafa 4-1 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday to make it three straight wins in the Qatar Stars League (QSL). The unbeaten defending champions moved top of the table with nine points, while Al Gharafa slipped to ninth with three points after suffering their second defeat. Yusuf Abdurisag began the goal-scoring for The Wolves converting a Roberto Firmino cross with ease in the very 5th minute of the game. Abdurisag then did a celebratory jig along with Akram Afif and Firmino much to the delight of their fans. The Al Sadd mood continued with Claudinho added a second goal in the 12th minute. Left unmarked, the Brazilian midfielder flicked in an Afif lob to score.Afif himself joined the party in the second session (50th minute) as he broke through the ranks and beat the rival goalkeeper depositing the ball in the right corner. Al Gharafa got one on board in the 82nd minute as Yacine Brahimi collected a Florinel Coman cross to shoot high centre into the net.Al Sadd however continued to rule the roost and a fast break in the 90+3' saw Firmino sliding, inside right in the box, to connect a Boualem Khoukhi assist. A fifth for Al Sadd seemed on its way in a final stoppage-time attempt but Younes El Hannach's shot from the right side of the box was cut off in the top centre by Al Gharafa's goalkeeper Khalifa Ababacar. Al Duhail hold Al Rayyan 1-1Earlier at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Al Duhail held Al Rayyan to a 1-1 draw in their third round match. The result ended The Lions’ winning run but took their tally to 7 points, while Al Duhail moved to 5 points with their second draw result in the league so far.Al Rayyan made an early breakthrough with Roger Guedes directing home a Jassem Gaber header following a corner kick in the 5th minute of the match. Al Duhail came close to equalizing in added time of first half but Al Rayyan goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada stood in the way.The Red Knights succeeded later in the 72nd minute when an alert Tahsin Mohammed cashed in on a defence error. He grabbed the ball and made a left-footed strike from top of the box into the left corner. Al Rayyan pushed hard for a winner towards the end but it remained elusive.

Al Duhail were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Arabi while Al Shahania beat Al Sailiya 3-2 in their second round matches of the Qatar Stars League on Saturday. The results meant that Al Duhail are now 4th with four points while Al Shahania with the maiden win moved into fifth place with 3 points. Al Arabi are 7th with two points and Al Sailiya 12th having suffered two defeats. The first action at the Al Bayt Stadium saw Al Duhail and Al Arabi fight it out. The first half ended goalless as both sides squandered promising opportunities, while resolute defending and alert goalkeeping ensured the deadlock remained intact. Al Duhail eventually broke through in the 52nd minute when Lucas Silva Melo leapt high to head Edmílson Junior’s well-delivered corner from the centre of the box into the top right corner. The goal rattled Al Arabi who then stepped up their search for an equaliser. Their efforts were rewarded in the 70th minute when Michael Olunga poked home with his left foot from close range after a rebound from a free kick taken by substitute Oussama Tannane, who made an immediate impact after being sent in. Al Duhail had a chance to snatch victory with a final attempt but Ibrahima Bamba headed Edmilson's corner too high and wide, allowing Al Arabi to hold on for a point. Al Shahania log winning points At the Lusail Stadium, Al Shahania beat Al Sailiya 3-2 to log their first winning points. Al Shahania took the lead early in the 6th minute as Andreas Van Beek headed in a fine Francesco Antonucci corner kick. The lead was doubled in the 23rd minute by Antonucci from a penalty kick after Al Sailiya’s Abdelaziz Mitwali had tripped Al Shahania’s Mohamed Surag in front of the goal. The referee awarded the spot kick after a long VAR. Al Sailiya hit back post break (51st minute) as Kellian Albertus got his foot to the ball and pushed it in after a goal-mouth melee following a Younes Belhanda free kick. Al Shahania moved further ahead with a third goal in the 57th minute with Abdoulaye Traore driving home a through ball after a long run. Al Sailiya scored their second goal in 90+5 minute with substitute Salem Al Sufiani’s good header that beat a diving goalkeeper on the volley to his left. 

Defending champions Al Sadd and Al Duhail began their Qatar Stars League campaigns in winning fashion on Saturday. Sadd beat Al Ahli 3-1 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, while Duhail defeated Al Sailiya 2-0 at Al Bayt Stadium.Al Sadd produced a dominant first-half display to secure all three points, with Akram Afif, Claudinho and Pedro Miguel finding the net before the break. Erik Exposito scored a late consolation for Al Ahli from the penalty spot.Sadd’s defender Paulo Otavio was pleased with his team’s victory. "Good start for us. Could have been great because we conceded one goal but compared to out last two seasons it is much to start off winning with the first three points,” the Brazilian said. "This was the first week of the season, I think everybody will learn and keep improving on their levels and we'll have a good season ahead," he added.Afif opened the scoring in the 11th minute, coolly flicking a perfect cross from Miguel into the vacant left side of the net. Al Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim then kept his side in the game by saving Giovani Henrique's penalty in the 35th minute. The spot kick was awarded after Yusuf Abdurisag was brought down inside the box by Benjamin Bourigeaud.Al Sadd doubled their advantage in the 44th minute following a swift counter-attack. Abdurisag broke into the area before Claudinho finished after the ball ricocheted off a defender. Miguel added a third in the sixth minute of stoppage time, heading in a cross from Afif to give Al Sadd a commanding lead at the interval.Al Ahli's Julian Draxler had a chance to pull one back moments later, but failed to beat Meshaal Barsham when presented with a clear opportunity. Al Sadd continued to create chances after the break but could not extend their lead. Al Ahli were awarded a penalty in the 76th minute after a powerful Exposito shot struck Al Sadd defender Tarek Salman on the hand near the right post. Following a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot and Exposito sent Barsham the wrong way to make it 3-1.At Al Bayt Stadium, Al Duhail also made a winning start as Edmilson Junior scored twice in the second half to secure a victory over Al Sailiya. The first half ended goalless, with both sides creating chances but failing to find the breakthrough. Edmilson opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, firing into the bottom right corner from the centre of the box after fine work by Oumar Sekou.The Brazilian doubled Al Duhail's advantage just four minutes later, producing a left-footed finish from Mubarak Shanan's assist. Al Sailiya came close to reducing the deficit in the 77th minute when Anwar El Ghazi's powerful effort from the left side of the box struck the left post. The Red Knights held firm in the closing stages, with Edmilson's second-half double securing a deserved three points.

Al Sailiya are continuing their preparations for the 2026-2027 season with an intensive training camp in Radkersburg, Austria (July 18-August 7) with the aim of putting up a stronger showing in the new season. Under the supervision of coach Mirghani Al Zain and technical staff, the players are sharpening their technical, tactical and physical prowess ahead of the start of the new season. During the Austrian camp, Al Sailiya played friendly matches against UAE clubs Al Nasr, Sharjah and Kalba, and Saudi Arabian side Abha. The games helped the coaching staff to assess a wide range of players, assess their readiness and integrate new faces into the squad. Al Sailiya finished 10th in 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League with 22 points (six wins, four draws and 12 losses), scoring 25 goals and conceding 38 goals. Al Sailiya have strengthened their squad for the new season with players such as goalkeepers Bautista Burke and Motasem Al Bustami, Andri Syahputra, Ahmed Moein, Ibrahim Majed and Abdulaziz Al Bakri. These additions will provide depth and experience to the existing squad also consisting of Matias Nani, Younes Belhanda, Kellian van der Kaap, Ali Olwan, Mohamed Al Taabouni and Anwar El Ghazi. Al Sailiya will kick off their 2026-2027 Doha Bank Stars League campaign against Al Duhail on August 22 at Al Bayt Stadium. With solid foundations from their first season back in the top flight and a refreshed squad, the club will aim to climb the table and make a deeper impression in domestic tournaments.  

Al Sadd are continuing their preparations for the 2026-2027 season at their pre-season camp in Linz, Austria, which began on July 13 and continues until August 7 as they gear up for domestic and continental competitions.Under Romanian coach Razvan Lucescu, Al Sadd are undergoing a comprehensive training programme that includes four friendly matches, aimed at improving the players’ readiness and helping them reach their peak performance before the start of season. In their first friendly, they lost 1-2 to Czech club SK Sigma Olomouc.The camp includes a total of 26 players, such as Roberto Firmino, Akram Afif, Claudinho, Paulo Otavio, Abdessamed Bounacer, Augustin Soria, Giovani Henrique, Rafa Mujica, Guilherme Torres, Hassan al-Haydous, Meshaal Barsham, Saad al-Dossari, Boualem Khoukhi, Tarek Salman and Hashim Ali besides technical and administrative staff.Al Sadd enter the new season on a high after winning the 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League title (third successive title and 19th overall) following a 3-2 victory over Al Shamal in the final round of competition. In the process, The Wolves also enjoyed a 10-match winning streak, the longest by any team last season.Al Sadd finished with 45 points from 14 wins, three draws and five defeats, while scoring 56 goals and conceding 30.Lucescu affirmed that Al Sadd are one of the biggest clubs in Asia and the region, adding that the team aspires to compete for all titles in the new season, most notably AFC Champions League Elite and Amir Cup, while maintaining their identity and attacking style on the field.Last season also saw Akram being crowned the Best Player at Qatar Football Association (QFA) Awards for 2025-2026 season, while Al Sadd bagged the Best Fans Award. They also won the Qatar-UAE Super Cup’s Super Shield by beating Shabab Al Ahli 3-2.Al Sadd will open their Qatar Stars League campaign against Al Ahli at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on August 22. 

Al Shamal are continuing their preparations for the 2026-2027 season with an intensive training camp in the Dutch city of Mierlo until August 6, as part of a preparatory programme developed by the coaching staff led by Spaniard David Prats.The team is undergoing intensive daily training sessions focusing on physical, technical and tactical aspects. They are also playing a series of friendly matches against strong teams like Al Wasl (UAE), Al Khaleej (Saudi Arabia), PSV Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Genk and Crossing Schaerbeek (both Belgium), with the aim of raising their readiness level and reaching peak performance before the start of season.The European camp follows the first phase of preparations in Doha. The coaching staff are working on enhancing team cohesion, integrating new signings and building upon the team’s impressive results last season, with high ambitions to keep competing for domestic titles and making a strong showing in AFC Champions League Elite.Al Shamal had an exceptional last QSL season, finishing second with 40 points (12 victories, four draws and six defeats). They scored 39 goals and conceded 28 goals, securing their first-ever AFC Champions League Elite qualification after a fierce title race that went down to the wire.The club got good recognition at the Qatar Football Association Awards, as Prats won Best Coach Award, ace striker Baghdad Bounedjah was shortlisted for Best Player Award and Mohamed Manai was nominated for Best Under-23 Player Award.In terms of recruitment, Al Shamal have strengthened their squad with several new players, such as Wesley Said, Mohamed Rabie Hrimat, Ibrahim Coulibaly, Abdelkarim Hassan, goalkeeper Saoud al-Khater, Ali Asad, Ahmed Sayyar and Adel Badr. They join a group of prominent players that includes Bounedjah, Jeison Murillo, Alex Collado, Akram Tawfik, goalkeeper Babacar Seck, Michael Termanini and Mowafak Awad.Al Shamal will kick off their QSL campaign against Al Arabi at the Al Thumama Stadium on August 21 with aspirations to continue positive results and build on the achievements of previous season.

The Qatar Stars League (QSL) announced the QSL 2 League schedule for 2026-2027 season, which will kick off on August 23, 2026, with 12 teams competing: Al Khor, Al Markhiya, Al Bidda, Mesaimeer, Muaither, Al Kharaitiyat, Umm Salal, Al Waab, NextGen (Al Rayyan), Etihad Al Gharafa, Al Shamal Future and Qatar Under-23 National Team. The announcement of schedule is part of QSL’s preparations for the new season, ensuring that competitions are ready according to the highest organizational and technical standards. As part of QSL’s commitment towards providing the best technical and organizational conditions for the start of season, the first three rounds of matches will be played in airconditioned stadiums, providing an ideal environment for players and fans, and enhancing the quality of competition during this time of year. The first three rounds of matches will be hosted by Al Thumama Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Lusail Stadium, Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium and Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Venues and dates for the fourth and subsequent rounds will be announced later.

As part of the Qatar Stars League’s (QSL) commitment to ongoing communication, co-ordination and co-operation with clubs, and aligning with preparations and arrangements for new 2026-2027 football season, QSL’s Competitions and Football Development Department held a Co-ordination Meeting with coaches and captains of Doha Bank Stars League and QSL 2 clubs at the Aspire Academy. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Khellil Abbassi, Executive Director of Competitions and Football Development, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Abdullah, Director of Professional Players Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Salman Al Adsani, Director of Competitions, Mr. Antero Henrique, Sporting Director at QSL, and representatives from National Teams and Referees Departments, Aspetar and Aspire. The meeting was held as part of preparations ahead of the start of new football season and aimed to enhance development through co-operation and co-ordination between QSL, clubs’ technical staff and players. The meeting also addressed several key aspects of competition, including a review of regulations and organisational guidelines for the new season, and operational mechanisms designed to ensure optimal conditions for a successful tournament. The meeting discussed new season’s calendar, aiming to achieve a balance between match schedule and preparation periods. The importance of morning training sessions in enhancing player readiness was also discussed, along with best practices in recovery and nutrition. These practices are crucial for improving player performance and minimising fatigue and injuries. The meeting also explored ways to optimise training intensity to meet competitive demands and enhance players’ technical and physical readiness throughout the season. Commenting on the meeting, Dr. Abbassi said, “I extend my thanks and appreciation to all technical, administrative and medical staff, and players for their vital and important roles, in addition to our partners (Qatar Football Association,  Aspetar, Aspire, National Teams Department, Referees) as they are a fundamental element in implementing the league’s development plan, and are among the main pillars of our football system.”
