Qatar Chamber invited to join AIM Congress 2026 in Dubai

QFZ connects Doha to global diamond industry with Qatar Diamond Exchange

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) has announced the Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE), a fully integrated platform for the trade of rough and polished diamonds and precious stones hosted within Ras Bufontas Free Zone.Bringing together trading, membership, vaulting, certification, and industry services within a single regulated ecosystem, QDE establishes a new gateway for global diamond trade in Qatar, connecting Doha to international diamond markets and advancing economic diversification under Qatar National Vision 2030.Qatar became a full participant in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in 2021, reaffirming the state's commitment to the responsible and transparent trade of conflict-free rough diamonds.Implemented through Law No (15) of 2025, Qatar's Kimberley Process framework designates QFZ as the state's competent authority and establishes Qatar's free zones as the sole legitimate entry and exit point for rough diamonds. QDE provides the regulated platform through which members can trade, store, certify, and transact within Qatar's diamond ecosystem.QDE operates as a single regulated platform with a secure trading floor, private negotiation suites, an institutional-grade vault with biometric access control, 24/7 on-site security and surveillance, and on-site customs and certification facilities, providing members with a seamless and secure environment in which to conduct business.QFZ CEO Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani, who is also chairman of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, said: “The Qatar Diamond Exchange represents an important step in Qatar's efforts to further diversify its economy and strengthen its position as a trusted participant in global diamond trade. Building on Qatar's participation in the Kimberley Process since 2021, we have established the regulatory and institutional foundations needed to support the growth of a new strategic sector for the state.“Through QDE, we are bringing together the full diamond and precious stones value chain within a single regulated ecosystem spanning trading, storage, vaulting, auctions and tenders, and industry support services.”Membership of the exchange is open to companies that trade, manufacture, cut and polish diamonds, alongside affiliate service providers and industry bodies. Members gain access to trading licences, on-site assortment and independent valuation, vault access, and specialist insurance all within a free zone offering 100% foreign ownership and 0% corporate tax for qualifying entities. A curated calendar of rough and polished tenders will connect producers across Africa and Asia with buyers in Europe and the Gulf.For more information and to apply for membership, visit qde.qa.

QFZ reinforces investor support measures for business continuity

New substation boosts power supply to QFZ

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) have officially launched the Umm Al Houl 3 primary substation to supply Qatar Free Zones authority. The milestone underscores the ongoing partnership between both entities to advance national power infrastructure and enhance energy reliability across Qatar's free zones.The newly commissioned 132/11 kV substation, with a total capacity of 80 MVA, significantly enhances grid reliability and ensures a stable and efficient power supply to support the growing energy demands of both new and existing investors in sectors such as logistics, manufacturing, and emerging technologies.Located in Al Wakra area, it also supports Qatar's wider transmission network serving major industrial and service hubs.Developed under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between QFZ and Kahramaa in 2021, the project underscores their ongoing collaboration to strengthen Qatar's investment environment through world-class, sustainable infrastructure that supports expanding business and logistics activities across the free zones.Umm Al Houl 3 Substation enhances the efficiency and stability of Qatar's electricity transmission network and expands capacity to meet future urban and industrial demand. Equipped with advanced digital systems for monitoring and control, as well as modern protection technologies, it strengthens grid reliability and reduces outages. The substation's design and operations follow the highest environmental standards, reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability in line with Kahramaa's future-ready vision.Director of Kahramaa's Technical Affairs Sector, Ahmed Nasser al-Naser, said: "The inauguration of Umm Al Houl 3 Substation embodies Kahramaa's strategic vision to lead the electricity and water sector through innovative projects that ensure service continuity and excellence. The inauguration marks an important expansion of DHL's presence in the State of Qatar and reinforces Qatar's free zones status as a premier destination for global logistics operators, said QFZ in a press release on Saturday. CEO of QFZ, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani stated: "The inauguration of DHL Global Forwarding in Ras Bufontas Free Zone reflects a strategic step to reinforce Qatar's stature as a high-value logistics hub, reducing time to market and enhancing the supply chain flexibility across the region."
