Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Saturday announced that Spanish forward Ferran Torres is joining the club's squad, coming from FC Barcelona.In a statement, PSG noted that Torres has signed with the Club until 2031 and that he will wear the number 9 shirt.The former Manchester City player joined FC Barcelona in 2022, making 207 appearances for the club and scoring 65 goals.During his time at FC Barcelona, Torres won three LaLiga titles, as well as the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup twice.

Manchester United managed a creditable 1-1 draw with European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a Gothenburg friendly but the result was overshadowed by an injury to Mason Mount.The England midfielder, who joined United from Chelsea in 2023, has been hampered by injury problems since arriving at Old Trafford and he lasted less than 20 minutes on Saturday after starting against PSG.Mount, 27, appeared to suffer a foot injury in Sweden and, following discussions with coaches on the touchline, left the field to be replaced by Tyler Fletcher.Mount has been restricted to just 31 league appearances - many of them as a substitute - during his first two seasons with United, who will be competing in the 2026/27 Champions League alongside PSG next term after finishing third in the Premier League.United were 1-0 down to PSG at the time of Mount's injury, having gone behind in the second minute through an Ibrahim Mbaye goal even though the French giants were missing many of their star players.But Bryan Mbeumo equalised for United in the 32nd minute, with Amad Diallo playing him in after winning the ball back. There were more injury concerns for United early in the second half when their 40-year-old goalkeeper Tom Heaton suffered a right hamstring problem while rushing out to make a clearance.Mbeumo might have doubled his tally but for the fine form of PSG's Matvey Safonov. The goalkeeper, however, left the pitch to jeers after escaping punishment for clattering into Joshua Zirkzee way outside of his area – an incident that may well have seen him sanctioned in a competitive match.At the other end, there were late chances for Fletcher, Shea Lacey and captain Bruno Fernandes, who linked up well with new arrival Youri Tielemans in an encouraging sign for United manager Michael Carrick."I enjoyed it," Carrick said "Good challenge. Slightly different with the way they play. We should've scored more goals."The former United and England midfielder added: "The things we were trying to get out of the game, a lot of it was there. It's good for the boys sometimes to have to problem solve and find their own way and I thought we did that. That prepares them for the season as well. In that respect there were a lot of things that maybe people don't always see that we were quite happy with. There were some good signs there."United have two more friendly fixtures, against bitter rivals Leeds in Dublin on August 12 and AC Milan in the Polish city of Wroclaw three days later, before launching their Premier League campaign away to newly-promoted Hull on August 22. 

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Thursday the signing of France international Maghnes Akliouche from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.The 24-year-old creative midfielder has signed with the European champions until 2031 for a reported fee of 50mn euros ($58mn), according to French media outlets."Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is an immense source of pride. Having grown up in the Paris region, joining such a prestigious club means so much to me and my family," Akliouche said in a statement on PSG's website.After joining Monaco as a 15-year-old in 2017, Akliouche progressed through the ranks before making his first team bow in 2021.In 139 matches in all competitions for the principality side, he netted 23 times and laid on 28 assists.Akliouche was part of Thierry Henry's France side which collected a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics.He has represented his country 10 times and was a part of the French squad at the 2026 World Cup.Akliouche's arrival bolsters Luis Enrique's attacking options, following the departures of Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan and Lee Kang-in to Atletico Madrid, while Bradley Barcola's future remains uncertain with Premier League side Liverpool interested in the winger.  

France forward ‌Ousmane Dembele has defended captain Kylian Mbappe, saying criticism of the ​Real Madrid striker has ‌become excessive as the national team prepare for the World Cup.Dembele, ‌who has ⁠emerged as a ‌key figure for France at the ‌tournament and is a contender for this year's Ballon d'Or after helping Paris ⁠St Germain win the Champions League, told Spanish newspaper Marca that some commentators had gone too far in their assessment of his long-time teammate.Mbappe remains one of the most scrutinised figures in French football since leaving PSG and joining Real Madrid in 2024.Despite still being a prolific scorer, the France captain came under criticism during a season in which Real failed to ​win either La Liga or the Champions League, while some pundits and supporters have questioned his leadership with the national team since he inherited the captaincy following Hugo ‌Lloris's retirement from international football.Mbappe's ⁠performances, public appearances ​and even minor aspects of his behaviour regularly attract intense debate ​in France."The criticism towards him is very, very unfair," Dembele said before France start their World Cup campaign against Senegal on Tuesday. "Some people go a bit too far with the criticism of Kylian."He's an incredible player and a very good person off the pitch. Some people overdo the criticism because he's Kylian Mbappe. They shouldn't keep going after him. Whether he ties his shoelaces or not, whether he pulls up his socks or not... it's too much. He's still a human being."With the France ‌team, he's very good with ‌us, he's a leader."The pair have ⁠developed a close relationship during their years together with Les Bleus. They ⁠are expected to play central roles ⁠in France's bid for a third World Cup title in the United States, Canada and Mexico.Dembele also paid tribute to coach Didier Deschamps, who has announced that he will step down after the World Cup following more than a decade in charge of the national side."He's simply an exceptional coach," Dembele said. "He will ​forever remain a legend among French national team coaches."Deschamps guided France to World Cup glory in 2018 and another final four years later.Asked about the prospect of former France great Zinedine Zidane succeeding Deschamps, Dembele welcomed the idea."We hope to welcome him one day to the France bench," he said. "I'm convinced he would do a fantastic job."Zidane, who won the World Cup as a player in 1998 and later enjoyed major success coaching Real Madrid, has long ‌been linked with the ​France job but has repeatedly declined to discuss the position while Deschamps remains in charge. 

The French capital laid on a hero’s welcome yesterday for Paris Saint-Germain players to mark their second straight Champions League title, amid bitter recriminations after hundreds of people were arrested and dozens of police hurt in a night of unrest across the country.Tens of thousands of flag-waving fans took to the streets again to see the team parade from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to the Champ de Mars plaza in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.The team flew back from Budapest where they beat English Premier League champions Arsenal on Saturday night 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out. They were also received by President Emmanuel Macron before returning to their Parc des Princes stadium for a final encounter with fans.A night of celebrations was blighted however by clashes between youths and police in Paris and other cities, cars set on fire and shops looted. The town hall for the Paris district that includes the Champs-Elysee, where tens of thousands went after the football victory, called for a ban on such gatherings.“Paris, Paris” chanted supporters, as they filtered through security checkpoints to get spots near a stage where the players appeared. The “We Are the Champions” pop song blared out on speakers.The streets were so packed that the team arrived more than an hour late at the Champs-de-Mars where they paraded on a red, white and blue tricolour carpet to the stage.Giant screens showed replays of the penalty shootout that brought the trophy back to Paris.“It was great, there was the stress of the penalty shootout but it was good stress in the end,” said Mirna Makima, a 39-year-old physiotherapist who travelled from Belgium for the celebrations.PSG forward Ousmane Dembele promised fans ‌gathered at the foot ​of the Eiffel ‌Tower that ‌the club would ‌chase a third ‌consecutive Champions League title next season, as supporters celebrated the city’s back-to-back European triumphs.“Thanks to all of you for your support. We’ll be back next year with the third one,” Dembele addressed the ​crowd as they danced to Daft Punk’s “One More Time”, while the players showed ‌off the trophy secured ​against Arsenal on Saturday.The mood was ​relaxed after light showers gave way to sunshine, in contrast to scenes overnight when post-game violence across the capital left over 200 people injured and killed one.Qatari club president Nasser al-Khelaifi urged fans to keep ‌up the positive ‌atmosphere.“Celebrate calmly tonight. Protect our city, that’s very important,” he said.Fan Mathias Oumraou told Reuters he had to be at the parade after what he called the best night of his life in Paris. Another supporter, Cheyenne Barbachou, said she could ‌hardly ​believe the back-to-back win. “It’s incredible,” she said.PSG’s winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named Champions League player of the season on Sunday by a UEFA panel of judges.Kvaratskhelia was a constant menace in PSG’s defence of the title with ten goals and six assists from his 16 games.
