 The Ministry of Municipality handled 20,867 requests to fight insects across all municipalities in the country during April.These were 4,905 requests within Doha Municipality, 5,527 in Al Rayyan, 3,189 in Al Daayan, 2,919 in Umm Slala, 2,867 in Al Wakara, 798 in Al Khor and Al Thakhira, 433 in Al Sheehaniya and 229 in Al Shamal Municipality.Of these, 13,667 applications were submitted through the municipality's smart app, Oun.A total of 9,774 were submitted through the Unified Call Centre, and the remaining 426 through the ministry website.The municipalities are continuing their preventative insecticide spraying and public awareness campaigns to inform the public on how to help reduce the spread of insects, along with related efforts. 

Qatar's Ministry of Municipality has unveiled a new package of electronic services for the Urban Planning Affairs sector, marking a further step in the country's ongoing digital transformation efforts.In a statement shared on platform X, the ministry said the services are now available on its official website, allowing users to complete a range of land-related transactions remotely and at any time.The newly introduced services include procedures linked to land administration, such as removing restrictive conditions, registering condition-bound land in the names of heirs, converting land between regulatory systems, and transferring restrictive conditions. Users can also apply for replacement title deeds and follow up on land management procedures online.Additional features cover surveying services, including access to survey reports and the numbering of streets, intersections, squares, and parks.According to the ministry, beneficiaries can access these services by logging in through the National Authentication System (NAS), selecting the required service, submitting necessary data, and uploading relevant documents. Applications can then be tracked through the user's personal account.Officials say the initiative is aimed at simplifying and standardizing land-related procedures, reducing the need for in-person visits and paper documentation, and strengthening digital integration between government entities.The move is part of broader efforts to enhance user experience and support Qatar's long-term digital development strategy. 

The Ministry of Municipality has taken a significant stride towards cleaner, smarter urban services with the launch of a modern fleet of eco-friendly vehicles and equipment — a move that signals the country's deepening resolve to align its public infrastructure with global environmental benchmarks.**media[437204]**The fleet was inaugurated by Abdullah Ahmed al-Karani, assistant undersecretary for Public Services Affairs, who described the initiative as a clear expression of the ministry's commitment to embedding best environmental practices into its day-to-day operations. He said the new vehicles would sharpen the efficiency of field operations while making a tangible contribution to improving air quality nationwide.**media[437205]**Sherida Sultan al-Rumaihi, director of the Mechanical Equipment Department, called the rollout a qualitative leap in operational capability, noting that every vehicle in the fleet had been selected against the most rigorous technical and environmental criteria, in step with the latest advances in global technology and in full alignment with sustainable development goals.**media[437206]**At the heart of the fleet's green credentials are Euro 6 engines — among the most demanding emissions standards in the world — which significantly cut harmful exhaust emissions, boost fuel efficiency, and reduce noise pollution. Safety, too, has been woven into the fleet's design, with advanced warning lights and high-visibility reflective elements fitted across the vehicles.**media[437208]**The fleet itself is as diverse as the municipal challenges it is built to meet. From hearse transport ambulances and refrigerated vans to street washing vehicles, waste collection trucks, and container carriers, the range covers a broad operational spectrum. Rounding out the lineup are a street sweeper, a beach cleaning tractor, and a dedicated waste collection vehicle — together equipping the ministry to serve Qatar's growing urban landscape with greater precision, sustainability, and care. 

Qatar University (QU), through its Social and Economic Survey Research Institute, is conducting a nationwide study titled 'Baseline Study to Estimate Food Loss and Waste in Qatar 2025' in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality. The study supports national efforts to improve food system efficiency while strengthening sustainability and food security nationwide.The study aims to measure the scale of food loss and waste across the various stages of the food supply chain in the country, beginning with production and processing and extending through distribution and consumption. The project will provide accurate scientific data by strengthening institutional collaboration among key national stakeholders, particularly QU and the Ministry of Municipality.This collaboration supports unified efforts, enhances co-ordination among institutions, and assists policymakers in developing strategies and programs to reduce food loss and waste while improving resource efficiency. Work on the project began on November 17, 2024 and is expected to continue until September 2026.The study is being implemented through a comprehensive research methodology that relies on collecting and analysing data from multiple sources to develop a reliable knowledge base to support strategic planning for food security and sustainability in Qatar.In this context, Dr Noora al-Mannai, director of the SESRI, emphasised the importance of the study, stating, “This study represents one of the key national research initiatives aligned with QU’s research priorities, particularly in the areas of sustainability, environmental protection, and food security." It also reflects the importance of collaboration among national institutions in generating knowledge and exchanging research expertise to support evidence-based policymaking.The project gains additional value through partnerships with relevant international organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and the United Nations Environment Programme, which enhance the quality of the research outputs and connect them to global efforts aimed at reducing food loss and waste and advancing sustainable development.”Dr Elmogiera Elawad, section head of Field Operations at SESRI, noted that the study adopts a comprehensive field-based methodology covering the entire food supply chain. This includes food production at farms, marketing and retail stages, food services in restaurants, hotels, and hospitals, and ultimately household consumption. This comprehensive coverage aims to provide an accurate assessment of food loss and waste at different stages through quantitative measurement, while also examining individuals’ attitudes, behaviours, and practices related to food waste and agricultural loss. The study will contribute to building a reliable scientific database that supports the development of effective interventions and policies to address this issue. 

The Ministry of Municipality affirmed its commitment to transforming waste into opportunities and building a more sustainable future, on the occasion of International Zero Waste Day, which falls on March 30th of each year, by promoting source segregation, advancing the circular economy, and achieving the goal of Qatar Zero Waste.The ministry affirmed in a post on X platform Monday that source segregation is the separation of waste inside the home from the very beginning into plastic, paper, metals, organic waste, and general waste, noting that a small step makes a big impact.The ministry explained that waste separation contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, limiting pollution, protecting the environment and natural resources, as well as reducing waste in landfills and enhancing the quality of life.In the context of its efforts, the ministry pointed to supporting recycling projects, conducting ongoing awareness campaigns, providing dedicated waste sorting bins, and improving waste management.The Ministry of Municipality called for the sorting of waste to begin, stressing the importance of community participation to achieve a cleaner environment and a better future. 

Qatar's food security situation is stable and its public services are running normally, the Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the Committee for Follow-Up on Food Security Policies, His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, has said, crediting the country's preparedness to the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the close oversight of His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.Speaking to Qatar TV from the Unified Operation Center of the Ministry of Municipality, al-Attiyah said the ministry is operating through a comprehensive system of digital and field operations to guarantee continuous service delivery around the clock. Pre-prepared emergency plans have been activated, public cleanliness and inspection teams are maintaining their normal schedules, and readiness levels are being continuously upgraded to handle any exceptional circumstances.On food security, the minister was unequivocal. "The food security situation in the country is very stable and indeed excellent," he said, stressing that the Qatar National Food Security Strategy 2024-2030 had anticipated a full range of scenarios, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Critically, the country's strategic food stocks remain intact and untouched, and additional shipments of rice and wheat are already en route.The strategy rests on three pillars. The first is self-sufficiency through local production — an area where Qatar has recorded notable success. Seasonal vegetables now meet close to 100% of domestic demand, with surplus volumes being exported, while poultry and dairy products cover approximately 99% of local market needs.The second pillar is the maintenance and continuous replenishment of strategic food stocks, managed through early warning systems that flag potential shortfalls and allow for immediate corrective action. The third is the securing of international supply chains through strategic partnerships, an area where Hassad Food Company has made significant investments to guarantee uninterrupted supply under all conditions.Al-Attiyah said he had personally conducted field visits to farms, private food companies, and border crossings to verify that supply chains were functioning and that production inputs were sufficient. He thanked customs officials, farm operators, and poultry and dairy producers for their efforts in keeping the market well supplied.On public services, the minister highlighted digital transformation as a key enabler of continuity, with more than 250 e-services available through the ministry's website and the Oun App. The ministry has processed over 77,000 electronic applications and handled 23,000 calls at its Control Centre, which he described as normal volumes managed efficiently.He closed with a direct message to the public: "Be confident and reassured — you are under a wise leadership that places your security and stability at the top of their priorities." 

The Ministry of Municipality on Saturday observed the Earth Hour event by switching off nonessential lights at its compounds for an hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.In a post on the X platform, the ministry clarified that its participation in this global event came as part of awareness-promotion efforts on the criticality of rationalizing power and backing climate change-combating efforts, as well as in support of achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

Qatar Development Bank (QDB) announced the activation of a suite of financing and advisory programmes in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Public Health, and in co-ordination with the Committee for the Follow-up of the Implementation of Food Security Policies.These programmes are designed to support and empower companies and factories operating in the food and health sectors, as well as their ancillary industries, in response to private sector feedback received through the bank's operations room in light of current regional developments.These services include Supply Chain Financing for Priority Products. QDB will provide partial guarantees for wholesale and retail trade companies to support financing applications through the commercial banks where the company holds an account.The second service is Raw Material Inventory Financing. QDB will offer financing for factories in priority sectors to strengthen their raw material inventory and prepare for any potential future disruptions in supply chains. QDB also launched Logistics Support Programme for Imports. It is a dedicated programme launched to support import operations and logistics for factories operating in the food and health sectors and their ancillary industries to mitigate the impact of rising shipping and transportation costs through financial support to compensate for the increase in related imports logistics costs, facilitating connections with strategic partners and reliable logistics providers, conducting specialised workshops on logistics operations and international trade, and providing access to up-to-date insights and the latest market developments.To benefit from these services, the QDB explained that companies and factories on the designated list will be directly contacted, in co-ordination with relevant parties and in alignment with pre-defined sector priorities, and in line with the priorities of the targeted sectors that were previously identified under the current regional circumstances.

The Ministry of Municipality Ramadan Football Championship 2026 kicked off on Sunday at Al Sadd Club’s Stadiums, with the participation of teams representing various sectors of the ministry and municipalities, in a competitive atmosphere that reflects the spirit of co-operation among employees.The tournament will continue until early March. The opening matches saw the Agricultural Affairs and Food Security Sector team defeat the Doha Municipality team with a score of (6-1). Meanwhile, the Al Khor Municipality team secured a win against the Al Rayyan Municipality team with a score of (5-3), marking a strong start to the tournament, which will proceed according to the approved schedule leading up to the final match. 

The Ministry of Municipality has signed a memorandum of co-operation with the Arab Union of the Blind on the sidelines of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ 2026). This step reflects the ministry’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships and empowering people with visual impairments in the projects it implements. The memorandum was co-signed by Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality Turki Fahad al-Turki, and President of the Arab Union of the Blind Dr Khalid bin Ali al-Nuaimi. The memorandum of co-operation aims to enhance collaboration between the two parties in supporting and empowering visually impaired individuals. This will be achieved through the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and co-ordination in implementing relevant initiatives and programmes, thereby enabling this group to actively participate in society and contributing to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The memorandum includes provisions for organising joint initiatives and activities, exchanging relevant information and data, and forming a joint working group to develop action plans and to monitor the implementation of programmes and initiatives, thereby enhancing performance quality. This agreement reflects the Ministry of Municipality’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with civil society organisations, contributing to the consolidation of the principles of sustainability and social responsibility, and enhancing the quality of life for all members of society.  

Eng Abdullah Ahmed al-Karani, the assistant undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, has honoured public cleaning worker Mohamed Nour El-Din in recognition of his honesty and effective cooperation with the security authorities, after he discovered smuggled narcotic substances while performing his duties in the northern area of the country.The ceremony was attended by Eng Abdulaziz al-Rumaihi, the director of the Projects and Development Department at the Ministry of Municipality.This recognition came after El-Din directly reported the incident to the security authorities, in co-ordination with the operations manager at Lavajet Company.The security authorities then carried out the necessary field procedures, and the seized materials were confiscated in accordance with the applicable legal procedures. 

The Ministry of Municipality announced the arrival of two Asian elephants at Al Khor Park. The elephants are a gift from the government and people of Nepal, which embodies the depth of bilateral relations and the bonds of friendship and co-operation.The ministry said the male elephant, Khagendra Pradsad, is six years old and weighs 1,190kg, while the female, Rudra Kali, is seven years old and weighs 1,200kg. They were born and bred in the Elephant Breeding and Training Centre, Sauraha, Chitwan National Park, Nepal.The couple were seen off from Chitwan National Park on December 17, according to a The Himalayan Times report. The paper cited Dr Haribhadra Acharya, Information officer at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, who said the calves would be transported to Qatar via a chartered cargo plane from Bhairahawa International Airport. The preparations were underway to move the calves from Sauraha to Bhairahawa a day earlier to meet the flight schedule and road conditions.**media[396061]**According to Acharya, two mahouts are accompanying the elephants under the supervision of park animal technician Dinesh Dhakal, who will return to Nepal after ensuring the proper management of the elephants. Nepal has previously gifted elephants to friendly nations as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and highlight the country's biodiversity internationally.The Elephant Breeding and Training Centre initially received 16 elephants from India, two from Myanmar, and two from Thailand. To date, the centre has bred and raised 68 elephants, six of which have died, while 61 have undergone formal training.The decision to gift elephants to Qatar was first announced during the official visit of then Nepal president Bidya Devi Bhandari in 2018. The ministry explained, via X, that the public can visit the Asian elephants at the Al Khor Park by booking through the Aoun app or the ministry's website.
