Seven-time world champion Marc Marquez admits it will be "emotional" this weekend as one of MotoGP's most iconic circuits at Phillip Island hosts its last race after nearly three decades.The picturesque and often windswept track, some two hours outside of Melbourne, has been a staple on the calendar since 1997 and a favourite among the riders given its waterfront location and demanding layout.But its contract expires this year.Promoter MotoGP Sports Entertainment wanted to broaden its appeal and shift it to Melbourne's Albert Park, which hosts the Australian Formula One.The Victorian state government was adamant it should remain at Phillip Island.With negotiations breaking down, South Australia stepped in and secured the race for six years from 2027 in Adelaide - the first MotoGP to be held in a city?centre location."Phillip Island is an extraordinary circuit. Racing here for the last time will be emotional," said Ducati's Marquez, who heads into the weekend two points behind Aprilia's Jorge Martin in the championship standings."It is a track with a unique, breathtaking layout. Here I won one of my first races with Ducati and we are motivated to do well, ready to fight right away for the positions that matter."The venue has seen some of the Spaniard's most impressive rides - he is a four-time winner - and also some of his worst moments including a huge high-speed crash with Johann Zarco in 2018.Teammate Francesco Bagnaia has never stood on the top step of the Phillip Island podium.But the 2022 and 2023 races, where he finished third and second respectively, were vitally important to his title-winning exploits and he too is sad to see it go."It will be the last time on this track, a circuit where I haven't managed to win yet, but which holds an incredible charm, an extraordinary layout, and pure adrenaline," he said.With five rounds to go, the title fight has effectively become a three-way battle between Martin, reigning champion Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi, who won the last race in Indonesia to stay in touch.Aprilia's Bezzecchi is 44 points behind Marquez and 50 clear of fourth-placed Ai Ogura."We arrive in Australia with the gaps in the riders' standings even tighter, so we have to keep working and keep faith in what everyone at Aprilia and the team is doing," said Martin."I'm confident that my team and I will do an excellent job and give this circuit the send-off it deserves."Marquez and Martin both missed last year's Australian race with injuries, and Spain's Raul Fernandez grabbed his chance to surge to a maiden MotoGP victory.Currently seventh in the standings, Fernandez is equally dismayed at the race leaving Phillip Island."I will cry a little bit," he said. "Not because I got my first MotoGP victory here but also because I always enjoy it a lot coming to Phillip Island - it is super nice."There were so many interesting races in the past here, not just in MotoGP, also in Moto2 and Moto3, so it's a track that everybody will miss a little bit."

Marco Bezzecchi stormed to victory in Indonesia on Sunday as Jorge Martin was third to retake the lead from Marc Marquez in the MotoGP world championship. The Italian Bezzecchi, riding an Aprilia, made his move on pole-sitter Raul Fernandez in the final third of a captivating grand prix at a sweltering Mandalika International Circuit. Spain's Fernandez came home second and compatriot Martin third, also riding Aprilia bikes. Ducati's reigning seven-time world champion Marquez finished sixth. That meant Martin retook the lead in the championship from Marquez by two points, with five more race weekends after this.Bezzecchi is still alive in the championship title hunt in third. "It's amazing, I'm very, very happy," said Bezzecchi, who sits on 309 points in the standings.Martin is top with 355, with Marquez on his tail on 353. "Very happy to be back on the top step of the podium. It was a nice battle with Raul (Fernandez) and I think me and all my team deserve a result like this."They have been through tough times with me," said Bezzecchi, who last won a grand prix in May. Martin, who will head to Australia in a fortnight with the most slender of leads, said he had done all he could. "I did the maximum," said Martin, who started alongside title rival Marquez on the second row of the grid."I did my best. At the start I lost a lot of positions but tried to be calm and was overtaking riders step by step.He added: "We are still in the fight and still in the lead." Fernandez, having to improvise to brake after fracturing two fingers in Saturday's sprint, got away cleanly from his first-ever pole.He and Bezzecchi, who started alongside him on the grid, had clashed and crashed out in the sprint. The sprint was won by Marquez to grab the championship lead for the first time from compatriot Martin. After a third of the 27 laps in the grand prix, Fernandez kept the fellow Aprilia of Bezzecchi at bay despite his injury.Former world champion Martin was running third, with Marquez looming in fifth without ever really threatening. Fernandez, who had two previous victories, kept his cool under tremendous pressure from Bezzecchi until lap 19, when the Italian made his move to grasp the lead.Bezzecchi streaked away from there to win by 4.260sec as Fernandez gamely hung on for second. 

Max Verstappen won a wet and dramatic Singapore sprint race for Red Bull on Saturday after George Russell's Mercedes crashed when leading at the end of the opening lap. Verstappen held off Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton to win by 2.50sec with Charles Leclerc third as the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri touched and crashed out on the final lap. 

Raul Fernandez set a new lap record to top the standings at the end of a crash-laden practice session at the Indonesian MotoGP on Friday.The SuperFile-Trackhouse racer clocked 1min 28.725sec at a dry Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit to push Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, who had led after the first session, into second place by 0.219sec.Championship leader Jorge Martin, also on Aprilia, came third, with fellow Spaniards Pedro Acosta and reigning champion Marc Marquez behind him.Fabio di Giannantonio was sixth, followed by Fabio Quartararo, Alex Marquez, Franco Morbidelli and Francesco Bagnaia.In a second session high on drama, last year's race winner Fermin Aldeguer crashed at the last corner, while Quartararo skidded out at Turn 9, though both were uninjured.Enea Bastianini, Diogo Moreira, Alex Marquez and Alex Rins also fell. Japan's Ai Ogura crashed earlier, during the first session.Marc Marquez won in Japan last week to whittle Martin's overall championship lead down to two points with six events of the season remaining.Going into Sunday's race, Martin sits top with 333 points, with Marquez on 331 and Bezzecchi in third place on 284. 

The 2027 MotoGP calendar has been confirmed, marking the return of the Grand Prix of Qatar to Lusail International Circuit (LIC), the only night race in the calendar, from March 12 to 14.As the second round of the 2027 MotoGP calendar, LIC will follow the season opener in Buriram, Thailand, from March 5-7, with the championship concluding in Valencia from November 26-28.LIC has hosted MotoGP since 2004 and made history in 2008 by staging the championship’s first-ever night race. The circuit is among a select group of venues to host all three major motorsport events; MotoGP, Formula 1 and the FIA World Endurance Championship.As with every round on the calendar, LIC will once again feature the Sprint in 2027, giving fans an additional opportunity to experience competitive on-track action.The 5.38km circuit, with its 16 turns and long main straight, has become renowned for fast racing, while its world-class lighting system creates one of the sport’s most distinctive settingsLIC will also host Qatar 1812 KM – FIA World Endurance Championship from March 25-27 in 2027, with the two events taking place just two weeks apart. Two new circuits added in calendar shake-up for 2027Meanwhile, MotoGP has added two new circuits in Argentina and Australia for the 22-race 2027 calendar. The first new track will be in Buenos Aires in April, the second leg of a three-race American swing that starts with Goiania in Brazil, which staged its first race this season, and finishes in Austin, Texas.The second addition is a street circuit in Adelaide, on November 14 at the end of a five-race late-season swing down through Asia to Australia.The Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires replaces Termas de Hondo, more than 1,100 kilometres inland from the capital. That circuit was on and off the MotoGP calendar between 2014 and its last appearance in 2025. Buenos Aires last hosted races in 1999.In Australia, Phillip Island near Melbourne has hosted races since 1989, but its contract expires after this season and the Victoria State Government rejected a plan by MotoGP to move the race to the track used by Formula One in Albert Park in the heart of the city.The race in Adelaide, which will require laying track in parklands, has met with local opposition. Hungary has been dropped from the schedule after just two years. The race was poorly attended and the Balaton Park circuit was reportedly unpopular with riders. 

* Acosta secures first MotoGP win at Austrian GP after sprint-race crash* Martin comes second to take 12-point lead in world championship* Bezzecchi finishes third; Marquez finishes fifth  Pedro Acosta claimed the first MotoGP victory of his career in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, bouncing back from his sprint-race crash to beat world championship leader Jorge Martin at KTM's home Red Bull Ring circuit.The 22-year-old Spaniard, who qualified third before crashing out while leading Saturday's sprint, seized the lead from polesitter Martin on lap nine of the 28-lap race and never looked back.Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium, while Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura finished fourth.It was an emotional moment for Acosta, nicknamed 'The Shark', who arrived in MotoGP with huge expectations after winning the Moto3 world title in 2021 and the Moto2 crown in 2023."The first one is always special," Acosta said. "Nice way to close a season like this with KTM in front of all Austrian fans. Super happy for them because they deserve it even more than me."Acosta is set to leave KTM at the end of 2026 to join the factory Ducati team. A BRILLIANT STARTMartin, the 2024 MotoGP champion, got off to a brilliant start but was overtaken by teammate Bezzecchi for the lead at Turn One on lap two. The 28-year-old responded immediately, reclaiming top spot at Turn Three on the same lap.However, Acosta's pace proved decisive and he passed Martin for the lead on lap nine before pulling away."I want to congratulate Pedro. He fought a lot during the last few years to get this victory. This feeling is amazing for him, so I'm really happy for him," Martin said of his fellow Spaniard."For myself, I think I did a great race. I was trying to manage the fuel. Then Pedro took me but I thought everything was under control. But step by step, he was stepping away. I tried to push a bit more but my rear tyre was completely destroyed. I did my best."This is what we have to do every weekend for the rest of the season, and the fight is on. So I am really looking forward to continuing like this."Martin now has 306 points in the standings, a 12-point lead over compatriot and reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez ahead of next month's Japanese Grand Prix. Italian Bezzecchi is third with 264 points.Marquez endured a frustrating weekend as Ducati lacked the outright pace of the Aprilias. The seven-time MotoGP champion qualified second but slipped back on the opening lap and eventually finished fifth. 

Jorge Martin pipped MotoGP title rival Marc Marquez to pole for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix, while Pedro Acosta completed an all-Spanish front row at the Red Bull Ring.Martin secured his third pole of the season, beating Marquez by just 0.015 seconds in a closely fought qualifying session. Acosta qualified third after setting the pace in Friday's practice."I was pushing like hell," Aprilia rider Martin told TNT Sports. "I felt quite OK during the weekend, we did small steps from yesterday to today. We are prepared for the race now."Reigning world champion Marc Marquez has reignited his title challenge by winning five of the last seven races, but admitted rival Jorge Martin had the measure of him in qualifying on Saturday."He was faster. The front row was the main target today," said Ducati star Marquez. Acosta, racing at KTM's home circuit, will be hoping to finally earn the first MotoGP victory of his career. He will leave the Austrian team to join Marquez at Ducati next season.Italian Marco Bezzecchi will start fourth, ahead of Japan's Ai Ogura, while Alex Marquez qualified sixth despite crashing late in the session. Championship rivals Martin and Marquez are level on 274 points at the top of the standings, although Marquez holds the advantage with more race wins.Bezzecchi sits third overall, 33 points adrift of the leading pair.

Ducati's Marc Marquez pulled off the perfect getaway to beat Aprilia's home favourite Marco Bezzecchi and win Saturday's San Marino Grand Prix sprint, closing to within 14 points of MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin who finished third.Bezzecchi had smashed the lap record to take pole ahead of Marquez in qualifying but it was the Ducati rider who had the perfect launch off the line before diving on the inside of turn one to storm into the lead. From there, the reigning champion never looked back, though he had to work for his win as Bezzecchi initially matched his pace before Marquez found another gear to pull clear."Immediately when I started, the plan was to try to lead the race because I had the medium tyre and Bezzecchi was with the soft (tyre)," Marquez said. "There were laps when they were a bit dangerous but then I tried to push. I see that I opened a gap. I tried to relax a bit and I saw that Marco was coming back."Then I attacked in the last laps because the pace was there. I was just trying to manage the risk. Happy with this victory, but the most important (race) is tomorrow." Bezzecchi was initially faster in the early stages of the sprint but once Marquez got into his groove, he began setting fastest laps and built a lead of more than a second over the Aprilia rider by the halfway stage of the 13-lap sprint.Fabio Di Giannantonio had slotted into third but his focus was more on Martin behind him as the Aprilia rider sought to limit any damage in the standings, with the Spaniard eventually moving up to third on lap seven with an overtake on the inside."Honestly, I didn't want to risk a lot to overtake him," Martin said. "I'm really happy with the job of the team ... and I hope that tomorrow we can improve a bit." Bezzecchi managed to reel in Marquez to get within striking distance towards the end but the Ducati rider quickly responded with a race lap record on the penultimate lap before taking the chequered flag.Bezzecchi, third in the standings, is now 22 points off top spot following his best sprint result of the season after finishing third four times. "I'm very, very happy. My best result in the sprint - finally better than third, so it's a big result," he said.Di Giannantonio finished fourth while Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez rounded out the top five. KTM's Pedro Acosta finished sixth followed by Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse), Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini) and Luca Marini (Honda) who finished in the points.  

Italian Marco Bezzecchi pipped seven-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez in Friday practice for the weekend's San Marino Grand Prix.The Aprilia rider was a tenth of a second quicker than the Spaniard, who was riding a Ducati, around the Misano circuit on the Adriatic coast.But it was a difficult session for championship leader Jorge Martin, who could only manage the 10th fastest time, which was nonetheless enough to propel him directly into Q2 qualifying on Saturday.The top 10 in Friday's practice are exempt from Q1 qualifying the next day, and are guaranteed a top 12 grid placing in both Saturday afternoon's sprint race and Sunday's GP.Whereas the other 13 riders must compete in Q1 for one of the two remaining spots in Q2.  

Marc Marquez claimed a dominant victory at the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday, with Pedro Acosta finishing second and Marco Bezzecchi third. Seven-time MotoGP champion Marquez has a strong record at the MotorLand circuit and climbed to second in the overall standings behind Jorge Martin, who came fifth. Marquez trails his compatriot by just 19 points, knocking Italian Bezzecchi down to third, 24 points behind Martin. It was Marquez's fourth win of the season, all of those coming within the last six races as he reignited his title bid in spectacular fashion, and a sixth victory from six races for Ducati in Aragon between sprints and Grands Prix. "Once I got the lead I put my foot down and turned up the pressure and opened the gap so that there would be no doubt about victory," said Marquez, who finished 1.754 seconds clear of the field. Aprilia riders Bezzecchi and Martin started well and took a 1-2 but Marquez quickly repassed Martin to move into second. Bezzecchi built a lead of eight-tenths ahead but Marquez snatched the lead on lap six at Turn 15, the pair brushing wheels out of the corner, allowing Pedro Acosta in to snatch second. "I heard Marc Marquez's engine when we were side by side on the straight, but with his experience and the extra power of his bike he was able to get the better of me," said Bezzecchi. "It is a shame I lost second straight away to Pedro. I would have preferred to fight harder for runner-up but I am still very happy." Francesco Bagnaia and Franco Morbidelli both crashed out, while Raul Fernandez retired to the garage. Marquez extended his advantage to more than a second on lap 14 and continued to pull away from Acosta, stretching it to 1.4sec by lap 16 and finishing nearly 1.8sec ahead. Marc's brother Alex Marquez came in fourth, ahead of Martin, Fermin Aldeguer and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is fourth overall. Injured Japanese rider Ai Ogura did not compete and dropped to fifth in the standings.
