The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Oracle have signed an agreement to renew the technical support contract for Oracle licences across government entities in Qatar for an additional three-year period from 2025 to 2028, alongside the establishment of a new Oracle dedicated cloud region for the government sector. The agreement aims to enhance the continuity of government digital services through the provision of an integrated backup data centre, thereby strengthening government cloud computing capabilities in Qatar. This agreement comes as a continuation of the existing co-operation between the two parties, which saw the launch of the first dedicated government cloud region in Qatar in February 2024. The new region aims to enhance operational readiness by providing a comprehensive backup infrastructure that ensures uninterrupted government digital services, while strengthening operational continuity and geographic resilience of the cloud infrastructure, in response to the growing digital transformation requirements of government entities. The Oracle Dedicated Cloud Region for the government sector, overseen by the MCIT, supports a number of strategic government initiatives by providing advanced services across Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), cloud applications, and artificial intelligence technologies. This contributes to accelerating digital transformation, modernising government services, and enhancing innovation across the public sector. The platform also contributes to strengthening data protection, enhancing readiness to address cybersecurity threats, supporting the operational requirements of artificial intelligence solutions, and enabling government entities to scale digital services securely and efficiently in line with national needs. The agreement comes within the framework of supporting Qatar’s efforts to develop advanced digital infrastructure, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030, aimed at developing an integrated digital government sector capable of adopting emerging technologies and accelerating digital transformation nationwide. 

Web Summit Qatar 2026 is translating global conversations into real economic gains, with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)-backed startup programmes generating hundreds of millions of riyals and positioning Qatar as a regional launchpad for digital innovation, according to an MCIT official. Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, Eman al-Kuwari, the director of Digital Innovation at the MCIT, said that the 3rd Web Summit Qatar has clearly demonstrated how strategic engagement with the global tech ecosystem can translate into tangible national impact. “Now we’re seeing the third edition, and we have seen the economic impact that it had on Qatar itself,” she said, pointing to the direct benefits felt across the local startup and innovation ecosystem. Al-Kuwari said that the MCIT’s role at Web Summit Qatar goes far beyond participation. The ministry, she said, is using the platform to connect startups with real market opportunities through a structured pipeline that supports companies from the idea stage to global scaling.“We are participating here with three key programmes that start with incubation, acceleration and scaling,” she said. “All of these paths represent different stages of a startup’s life that need to be supported.” Web Summit Qatar 2026 is no longer just a meeting ground for global technology leaders; it is delivering measurable economic outcomes for the country and strengthening Qatar’s position in the global digital economy, according to the MCIT. At the heart of this effort is the Tasmu Accelerator, which targets revenue-generating startups from around the world willing to solve real challenges in Qatar and establish a presence in the region. According to al-Kuwari, the results speak for themselves. “Through 130 sales leads, we have generated more than QR430mn in actual revenue for these startups, in terms of real contracts and opportunities,” she said. In addition, companies supported through MCIT programmes have raised more than QR270mn in funding, underlining investor confidence in Qatar’s innovation ecosystem. The official noted that these outcomes are possible because Qatar’s ecosystem is deeply interconnected. “You see the licensing platforms, the banking services, the government engagement and the financing services, all of us are working together under one umbrella to achieve a single goal of diversifying our economy,” al-Kuwari said. This approach, she added, is central to the Digital Agenda 2030, which the United Nations has recognised as a global best practice for digital transformation. Beyond startups, al-Kuwari highlighted that Qatar is approaching emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), with a strong focus on trust and responsibility. “We are among the first countries in the region to have a national AI strategy,” she said, adding that ethical guidelines now underpin every stage of AI development and deployment. Through initiatives such as GovAI, the MCIT is bringing together government entities and industry leaders to ensure AI solutions are safe, secure and aligned with national priorities. Al-Kuwari stressed that people remain at the centre of Qatar’s digital transformation, humanising its impact. “We see that people are at the centre of everything that we’re doing,” she said. “We’re trying to achieve the National Vision 2030 by having a higher quality of life, and digital transformation plays an integral role in that.” 

Qatar is steadily progressing towards establishing itself as a regional and global hub for the digital economy and innovation through investment in human capital, the development of innovation ecosystem, and the enhancement of the ICT sector’s contribution to the national economy, officials at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) said.This was highlighted during a panel discussion at the Web Summit Qatar 2026, titled ‘Qatar’s digital agenda 2030: Building a knowledge-based digital economy.’ Participants reviewed mechanisms for translating the agenda into tangible results in terms of job opportunities, skills development, and economic impact, highlighting the role of the MCIT in leading this transformation through strategic pillars and pioneering programmes. Director of Digital Society and Digital Competencies at the MCIT Duha al-Buhendi stated that Qatar’s vision for technology is based on a long-term approach aimed at making the country an incubator for ideas and a platform for international technological co-operation, noting that organising technological events is incomplete without genuine investment in the development of human capital and the cultivation of digital skills. Al-Buhendi explained that the challenge lies not in the number of available jobs, but in the availability of qualified personnel capable of filling them, adding that the MCIT has launched several initiatives to develop local talent and attract international expertise. The Director of Digital Society and Digital Competencies stated that more than 5,000 government employees were trained last year, with a high satisfaction rate recorded for workforce development programmes. Director of the Digital Innovation Department at the MCIT Eman al-Kuwari said the ministry focuses on establishing supportive platforms to nurture talent and transform innovative ideas into applicable market solutions, thus bridging the gap between innovation and actual market needs. She noted that innovation programmes have contributed to generating more than 160 sales opportunities, resulting in revenues exceeding QR670mn. She emphasised that connecting international talent with the local ecosystem is a fundamental element in addressing national challenges and enhancing the efficiency of digital services.Director of Digital Economy at the MCIT Faraj Jassim Abdulla said the ministry is working to increase the contribution of the ICT sector to the GDP, aiming to reach 10% in the medium term, in addition to creating thousands of new jobs in the technology market. He pointed to the recent announcement of an additional $2bn in investments in the digital sector, adding that despite global challenges, technology companies operating in the country have managed to secure significant funding and achieve remarkable revenue growth, reflecting the strength and resilience of the digital ecosystem. The Director of Digital Economy at the MCIT also noted that these efforts are part of a comprehensive vision to transform the national economy, supported by an attractive business environment, a high quality of life, and streamlined regulatory policies that encourage investment and innovation in the digital economy. 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the QVenture Capital Association (QVCA) to strengthen the venture capital and innovation ecosystem in the State of Qatar.The agreement was signed during Web Summit Qatar 2026.The agreement was signed by Eman al-Kuwari, Director of Digital Innovation at MCIT, and Hussain Abdulla, Co-Chair of the QVenture Capital Association.This partnership aims to support improved access to private capital for startups and scale-ups supported by the Ministry, by leveraging QVCA's network of venture capital funds, financing institutions, and association members. The collaboration seeks to strengthen engagement between founders and investors and support investment opportunities across priority sectors.The partnership also includes cooperation on developing entrepreneurship-supportive policies through the exchange of insights on startup maturity and market dynamics, contributing to evidence-based policymaking and closer alignment between national innovation programs and market needs.In addition, the collaboration extends to attracting and enabling technology companies that provide solutions to national challenges and strategic priority areas, while supporting efforts to localize and strengthen critical digital and technological capabilities, in line with Qatar's long-term economic diversification and digital transformation objectives. 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), organised an awareness workshop under the SMEs Go Digital Programme.The workshop targeted institutions operating within the healthcare sector and aimed to promote the adoption of digital transformation solutions and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance services provided across the national healthcare system.The workshop highlighted the role of digital transformation and AI in driving innovation within healthcare institutions and featured a specialised session delivered by experts in digital transformation in the healthcare sector.Participants gained valuable insights into the pivotal role of emerging technologies in empowering healthcare institutions, along with practical applications of digital transformation and artificial intelligence that contribute to improving patient experience, increasing operational efficiency, and creating new opportunities for business growth.The workshop is part of a series of specialised sessions organised under the SMEs Go Digital Programme by MCIT. The programme targets SMEs operating across vital sectors, including tourism, education, healthcare, retail and wholesale, as well as transport and logistics. It aims to support the development of innovation-driven business models and accelerate the digital transformation of SMEs in Qatar by enabling the adoption of advanced technologies and enhancing their readiness for the digital future, in line with the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030. 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will showcase Qatar's digital transformation journey and efforts to build a competitive digital economy through a joint interactive booth with the Ministry of Sports and Youth during the Web Summit Qatar 2026, to be held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on February 1-4.The booth will highlight key national programmes supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, most notably the Digital Incubation Center, the TASMU Accelerator, and the "Scale Now" programme.The joint booth will feature a dedicated interactive theatre hosting panel discussions with leading technology experts and industry leaders, alongside live presentations and discussions on the latest digital trends and innovations.It will include a dedicated startup area, enabling companies to showcase their digital solutions and connect with investors and potential partners in sectors such as fintech, health tech, sustainability, smart cities, and other priority sectors.The MCIT will participate in a number of high-level sessions and organise a series of specialised masterclasses aimed at delivering practical content and applied knowledge for entrepreneurs, professionals, and policymakers.On the sidelines of the summit, the ministry is set to sign a number of memoranda of understanding with international partners to support co-operation in the fields of innovation and digital transformation.

hip with Oracle focuses on strengthening the management of government data systems, supporting the delivery of comprehensive AI-powered solutions across government platforms, and expanding the company’s collaboration with the ministry through advanced data-management systems and AI-driven applications.  Meanwhile, the partnership with Scale AI supports the development of AI models, provides high-quality training data, and enables government entities to deploy generative AI technologies.De Boinville said that the company’s partnership with the MCIT aligns with a commitment to developing AI models tailored specifically to the needs of government entities, using high-quality AI-ready data. 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the National Planning Council (NPC), announced the launch of a national initiative aimed at developing an advanced system for data analytics and strategic decision-making, in partnership with Scale AI.The initiative forms part of a broader effort to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.The initiative focuses on building advanced analytical capabilities that enable the NPC and relevant government entities to gain deeper insights into development trends, analyse economic and social indicators, and develop predictive models that support more accurate and effective policymaking.This effort strengthens the State's ability to undertake medium- and long-term planning in a more informed, data-driven, and forward-looking manner.The initiative will also improve monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, support the assessment of demographic and economic shifts, and provide smart tools that help working teams understand development dynamics and test multiple scenarios before adopting them at the national policy level.Additionally, it allows for the integration of diverse data sources into a unified model that enhances the quality of planning outputs and increases the reliability of future forecasts."Integrating AI into national planning marks a new phase in the evolution of government operations, as we shift from traditional analytical approaches to intelligent tools that support faster and higher-quality decision-making,” said Eman Ahmed al-Kuwari, the director of the MCIT’s Digital Innovation Department. “This initiative aligns with the pillars of the Digital Agenda 2030, which emphasise responsible and effective use of AI across vital sectors."This initiative is part of a broader series of national projects aimed at building a smart data infrastructure and applying global best practices in planning, reinforcing Qatar's position as a leading nation in the use of AI to enhance government efficiency and support sustainable development.

The Qatar News Agency (QNA) is participating in the second World Summit AI Qatar 2025, which kicked off Tuesday.The two-day event is organised by Inspired Minds in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), and held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC).Through its booth at the Expo, which is held alongside this summit, the QNA is showcasing the technologies it leverages in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) to communicate its media message, as well as spotlighting the technological tools utilised in news broadcast, media reports, and visual content, including photos and video footage.The booth also showcases innovative models in broadcasting news, bulletins, and media reports, leveraging modern technologies, including generative AI for news‑video production, which represents one of the latest advancements in AI.The exhibition further highlights the "Audio and Video Clip Analysis System", an AI‑powered program that converts recorded video and audio clips into written text, alongside numerous programs and applications that utilise cutting‑edge technology.QNA director-general Ahmed bin Saeed al-Rumaihi affirmed that this participation comes as part of the agency's keenness to showcase the technological potential and state-of-the-art technologies it uses to relay its media message.The agency, he added, adapts with all kinds of evolution in connection with digital transformation and AI, both on the national and global stages, and to promote the digital future in Qatar in pursuit of realising the aspirations and objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030.Al-Rumaihi stressed that this participation reflects the QNA's pivoting toward betting on advanced technologies more significantly, adding that the agency is committed to benefiting from AI-powered technologies to advance its functional performance and media services.The QNA had received the “Innovation in the Use of Artificial Intelligence in News” award during the Google Cloud Summit Doha 2025 deliberations, in appreciation of its leading efforts in integrating AI technologies into its news ecosystem.
