Qatari Diar has announced the registration of two world records in the Guinness World Records, related to the district cooling system in Lusail City. This is a new global milestone added to Qatar's record of achievements in the fields of infrastructure and sustainable development, the company said in a statement. It added that the integrated district cooling network in Lusail City was registered as the largest district cooling network in the world, with a total length of 123.5 km. The network connects district cooling plants and energy transfer stations to buildings, through a network of pipes ranging in diameter between 100 and 1600 mm, the statement added, explaining that it is further supported by smart leak detection systems, distributed isolation valves, and service tunnels that strengthen operational flexibility, ease of maintenance, and continuity of service. The statement further noted that the second world record was registered for the longest chilled water storage tank in the world, where the chilled water tank in the Northern District Cooling Plant in Lusail City was recorded as the world's longest, with a height of 46.041 meters, a diameter of 32 meters, and a capacity of 12,000 refrigeration tons. The tank plays a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency of the system by storing chilled water during periods of low demand and reusing it during peak times, contributing to improving energy consumption efficiency by up to 14%, the statement continued. It pointed out that this achievement is the outgrowth of a strategic vision the company has been pursuing since the launch of the Lusail City project, based on developing an integrated city whose distinction isn't limited to urban planning and design quality, but extends to advanced infrastructure that constitutes the foundation for the city's sustainability, growth capacity, and ability to provide reliable services for future generations. Fully owned by Qatari Diar, Marafeq Qatar has played a key role in turning this vision into an integrated operational reality through the development and operation of advanced utility systems according to the highest global standards, the statement reads. It noted that this makes the district cooling system in Lusail City today one of the world's leading models in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. CEO of Qatari Diar, Sheikh Hamad bin Talal Al-Thani, said Lusail City's entry into the Guinness World Records with two global records represents an important milestone in the path of a national project whose vision was initially based on building an integrated city where infrastructure is a cornerstone of sustainable development and quality of life. He affirmed that this accomplishment reflects the success of Qatari Diar's vision in long-term investment in cities capable of growth and adaptation to the future. Sheikh Hamad added that this global recognition suggests the success of integration between urban planning and advanced infrastructure, and confirms the State of Qatar's capability of advancing world-class urban projects that enhance Lusail City's position as a paragon of smart and sustainable cities. This is alongside the commitment to service quality for subscribers and meeting their needs according to the highest standards, he underlined. For his part, Eng. Ahmed Al Ammari, CEO of Marafeq Qatar, expressed his pride in this national achievement for the State of Qatar, which the Guinness World Records internationally recognise. He noted that this milestone suggests the efficiency of an integrated system designed and operated according to the highest global standards, ensuring service reliability and sustainability.This recognition, Al Ammari added, crowns more than fifteen years of planning, investment, and development, and stands as a testimony to Qatar's progress in infrastructure, Lusail City's advanced urban model, Qatari Diar's ambitious vision turned into reality, and Marafeq Qatar's operational efficiency and specialized expertise in developing and operating utility systems according to global best practices. Overall, the district cooling system, which is a highly efficient air-conditioning system, is considered one of the pillars of sustainable development owing to its advantages in reducing electricity consumption, conserving resources, and protecting the environment. Lusail City will include a number of main cooling plants to cover its cooling needs, with a total production capacity estimated at almost 630,000 refrigeration tons upon full completion of the city.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at Lusail Palace to discuss regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts.  The talks focused on the latest developments in the region, particularly progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran, within the framework of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides.  The discussions also addressed the situation in Lebanon, with emphasis on the importance of maintaining a ceasefire to preserve the country's unity, sovereignty, and stability.  HH the Amir reaffirmed Qatar's continued role, in partnership with Pakistan, in supporting mediation efforts and facilitating dialogue stemming from the agreement, with the aim of achieving a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that strengthens regional security and international peace.  The US envoys expressed appreciation for Qatar's mediation efforts in partnership with Pakistan, noting Washington's commitment to continuing negotiations and advancing diplomatic initiatives aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.  

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced the suspension of Lusail Tram services from June 26 to July 5 to facilitate significant improvement works across the network. The temporary suspension of tram services is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Transport as part of Qatar Rail’s ongoing efforts to enhance passenger services and improve the tram network’s performance. During the service suspension period, replacement bus services will operate between Legtaifiya station and Tarfat — South station to maintain continuity of service for passengers. Additionally, the existing MetroExpress and Metrolink services, including a newly launched Metrolink route M154, will operate to cover the area. Following this work, service in at-grade sections of Tram Lusail will remain suspended, as Qatar Rail carries out comprehensive upgrades to enhance efficiency and improve customers’ journey. MetroExpress and Metrolink will continue to operate, covering this area, ensuring smooth connectivity across the network. Qatar Rail advises customers to refer to the guidance maps displayed at stations to learn about replacement bus routes, the locations of the nearest bus stops, and service frequencies, in addition to following the social media channels and contacting its call centre (105) for the latest updates. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met Monday morning in his office at Lusail Palace, with World Anti-Doping Agency President Witold Banka and his accompanying delegation, who called on His Highness the Amir to greet him, following their visit to the country.  During the meeting, the two sides discussed several topics of mutual interest.

 Karim Rizkallah claimed a dramatic victory in Round 3 of the Qatar Karting Championship (QKC) after edging Victor Litaudon by a razor-thin margin of just 0.031 seconds in the Grand Final at Lusail International Circuit on Tuesday night. Competing on the 1.124km Lusail track, Rizkallah completed the 12-lap race in 12 minutes 49.943 seconds, narrowly holding off Litaudon in one of the closest finishes of the season. Rizkallah also clocked the fastest lap of the race at 1:02.886.Litaudon stayed glued to the leader throughout the race and crossed the line only fractions behind in 12:49.974, while Alfie McElroy secured third place after finishing 5.320 seconds off the pace.Felice Carena delivered another consistent performance to finish fourth, with championship leader Tameem Hassiba rounding off the top five after a solid drive that helped him strengthen his position in the standings.Following three rounds, Hassiba continues to lead the championship with 60 points, having collected 25 points in Round 2 and 10 in Round 3 after his opening-round tally. Litaudon sits second overall on 54 points, while Round 3 winner Rizkallah moved closer to the top after climbing to third with 52 points.Danish Quereshi remains fourth in the standings on 44 points, while Arkadiusz Barski completes the top five with 27 points despite failing to finish in Round 3.

Lusail University celebrated yesterday the graduation ceremony of its third batch of students, with more than 900 graduates, including 63% of Qataris, held at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater attended the ceremony, alongside a number of Their Excellencies senior officials in the country, as well as members of the academic and administrative staff and guardians of the graduates. In his speech during the ceremony, President of Lusail University Dr Nizam Hindi said that science and knowledge form the basis for the advancement of societies and the building of nations, noting that the first message in Islam was a clear call to read and seek knowledge. Graduation day represents a moment of reaping the rewards of years of hard work, diligence, and challenge, Dr Hindi noted, indicating that this occasion not only represents the end of an academic phase, but also the beginning of a new path in which graduates contribute to serving the community and transforming knowledge into a tangible impact. Since its establishment, the university has been keen to ensure that studying in Lusail is a gateway to acquiring skills and experiences, opening up to world issues and anticipating the future, in addition to consolidating the values of discipline, responsibility and teamwork, he added. Dr Hindi pointed out that the academic institution continues its commitment to developing its educational programmes and enhancing the quality of its outputs to keep pace with the requirements of the labour market and rapid transformations, stressing that graduates represent a scientific force towards the future. President of Lusail University called on graduates to adhere to ethics and responsibility as well as to invest knowledge and skills they have acquired in serving their homelands and communities, noting that the future is full of possibilities, and only those with will and determination can reach it. 

Travelling across Doha Metro and Lusail Tram just became more inclusive. Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has launched the globally recognised Sunflower programme across both networks, offering passengers with non-visible disabilities a discreet way to signal that they may need a little extra support on their journey.The Sunflower programme allows passengers to wear a sunflower symbol — a quiet, voluntary cue that they may have a hidden disability and could benefit from additional assistance, more time, or clearer communication while travelling.Reinforcing its commitment to delivering an inclusive and accessible travel experience for every passenger, Qatar Rail said in a press release on Wednesday that the initiative forms part of its wider drive to elevate customer experience across its networks, building on the successful rollout of the Best Buddies programme last year.As a Sunflower-enabled transport network, Qatar Rail has woven the programme into key passenger touchpoints, from stations to onboard services, ensuring a consistent and supportive experience throughout the journey. Its customer service teams have undergone specialised training to recognise the Sunflower symbol and are well equipped to assist passengers with hidden disabilities with empathy, professionalism, and care.Under its unifying "Every Journey Matters" banner, Qatar Rail continues to roll out inclusive initiatives designed to ensure that every customer travels with dignity, confidence, and care. The approach mirrors the company's broader commitment to social responsibility and aligns squarely with its ESG priorities.In collaboration with its service provider RKH Qitarat, Qatar Rail is also exploring further initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and comfort for different passenger groups — part of its sustained effort to maintain a safe and trusted public transport system in Qatar.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani attended Sunday the closing ceremony of Al Noor Center for The Blind of the Qatari Foundation for Social Work for the year 2026, at the Center's headquarters in Lusail City.  During the ceremony, a total of 29 graduates from the Center's affiliates and beneficiaries from inclusive schools and universities were honoured, in recognition of the successes of an integrated educational and rehabilitation journey.  A number of Their Excellencies the ministers, officials and representatives of bodies concerned with social work also attended the ceremony, alongside families of affiliates, beneficiaries, and those interested in the field of visual impairment.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced relocation to its new main headquarters in Lusail City, effective April 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the work environment and improve the efficiency and integration of its services. From the date of the move, services will continue to be provided to the public from the new headquarters, including “Single Window” services, ensuring seamless operations without disruption while facilitating procedures and enhancing customer experience. In parallel, more than 500 electronic services will remain accessible through the MoCI's application and website, enabling users to complete their transactions quickly and efficiently.
